Actually guys, Moore went to SUNY Fredonia (State University of New York
at Fredonia). Check out my email address, I went there too :) But KM never
went to Berklee or Berkelee or however you spell it. Just SUNY Fredonia :)

my friend showed me this a few weeks ago, and i tried it with some of my
    favourite albums...
i found that the program isn't that good yet...it would recommend some
good disks, but it would also have some crap with a high weight, and
stuff that should be at the very top, way at the bottom with a 16 beside it.

let me explain: as input i gave it I&W, Awake, Parallels, Misplaced Childhood,
and ...and Justice For All...maybe one or two others (whatever the number
    you had to have)
i was amazed that cds by the very same bands i listed, appeared way at the
bottom, like Live at the Marquee had a 16, and so did WDADU, and Inside Out.
then some cds that were way at the top were Smashing Pumpkins!
what else amazed me, is that the author of the engine said that in the future
any cds with 16 or less would not even show up. so that means LatM,and WDADU
    wouldn't even show up.
it did say that the engine improves each week though (i assume, because
it 'learns' more about similar cds)
give it a try, and let me know what kind of results you get.

i heard a dj talking about it a few weeks ago on
Seattle's KISW...the dj said that it was going
to be called "ACOS" like you said, but he didn't
mention anything about the song...he made it sound
like it was just going to be a covers album...in fact
that's exactly what he said...a covers album called
    "ACOS" :)

there's no way! i'd be really disappointed if they tried
to get that song to be played on the radio, and they
cut it so that it would be played...that would be
    a sellout to me...
however i think they will play some of the covers.
probably the only ones that would get some airplay
are perfect strangers, red hill mining town, and perhaps
one other...the others are either medleys, only parts, or
they are too obscure for the american radio (like Easter,
    or even Tears).
i'd love for them too play Damage Inc. that song rules
with Barney on vocals...i laughed my head off when i
first listened to it. also, hearing the whole show makes
me think that there's no way they could release the whole
thing and ACOS on a cd, and still call it an EP. it's just
    way too long.

oh-oh...i see a thread starting, much like the PUBLIUS debate on the Pink Floyd
newsgroup...except that the PF one has been going now for almost 2 years i
think...and there are many indications that there is an enigma and a secret
message...it all started with someone posting a few riddles to the newsgroup.
now it's getting out of hand :)
but if a band member actually said that there is something there, it may
be worth checking out (or perhaps he was joking)...

Just curious. I wonder why the band doesn't include the whole Ronnie Scott's
(sp ?) gig on the upcoming "EP" ?? I think that if you include ACoS and even
a few of the Ronnie Scott's songs, you would be pressing 35+ minutes already.
This, in my mind, does not equate to an EP. So, why not just go for it ??
Always wished that they would have included more songs on LatM, even if the
    performances weren't perfect.

I would not think that there would be all that much incremental cost to
including the whole Ronnie Scott's gig. The only down side for the group
could be that they may have to spread out royalties a bit further (dont know
how that stuff works), but by including more and diverse titles it would give
    them increased exposure. Whatever.

Separately, thanks to "BABS" for looking out for me WRT the fan club.

In response to Berklee school of musci...ummm...YES They do have an
audition...yes They DO Require a Back of the hand Knowledge of Music
Theory...and Yes You DO have to be somewhat talented in order to get into
the school (They require at BARE Minimum 2 years of formal
training...plus a Letter of reccomendation from your teacher evaluating
your skills). I Know this cause I was Berklee bound for All of High
School ("Recording Major'Z hafta have a principle instrument T00???") And
The 2 years was the only requirement I couldn't meet :( oh well...sucked
to be me! But Anyways whatever that d00d said about not needing any
talent in order to get in...and just needing Good SAT Scores...they want
Brains AND Talent...Which is why only GREAT Musicians can say they went
there! Take care Fellow DT Enthusiasts!!!!

Hey Jammers - it's Jaime the Dragon. I switched services to America Online,
on _really_ short notice <as in I didn't know I was going to switch until
about an hour beforehand> and I was having modem problems and wasn't able to
log on to P* at all even to inform people there that I was leaving.

SO - any of my email-pals or anyone with Metropolis Watch inquires can reach
    me at:

    Maraya007@aol.com

Speaking of MW, it's going to be just a wee bit late - I'm still waiting for
one more submission (::hurry it up, Jeff!::) and also our good computer
_crashed_ (the possibility of a virus has not been ruled out) so that's
also going to delay things because this computer doesn't have a printer.
It's usually not this bad, guys, but hey - Mercury is in retrograde, little
annoyances are becoming extremely obnoxious! <::grinning at AirDance::>

I will certainly agree that it's absurd that they'd let anyone in who
couldn't play well, but I'm not lying when I say that they did. Perhaps
things have changed. I was there in 1990. Here's an example. I'm a bass
player and I can play all right but I can't read. Chances of getting into
any music school - nil. Berklee - check cleared you go to reading lab and
learn to read. Can't walk a line over changes. Bass lab, where you learn
that. These are some basic skills. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from
going to Berklee. You can learn a lot there. But if you go and you aren't
prepared, it won't do you much good. If you can't read music and can't walk
a line over changes then you should spend another year studying privately -
it will be much better for you. My point on the above is: don't be
impressed because someone went to Berklee - wait until you hear him play.

Since I am only able to download/read my Email periodically, I guess I may
have some flames to fight in the future Also why my posts tend to be a
    little bit longer than some.

In response to BABS(?) and others: I too remember Gamma (w/Ronnie
Montrose); in fact, one of last things I received from my beautiful
blond-haired friend who has moved across the continent :( (see my last
post) is a cassette with Gamma 1 and 2 (she's a Gamma fan, as well as a QR
and Marillion fan); I did see a Best_of_Gamma CD a few months ago, but with
limited funds I had more significant things to purchase.

Today's rock trivia question: who was the vocalist on the self-titled
Montrose album, and what well-known group is he with today? (Hint, the
group has been a thread in recent JAMs) If you get that one, who was the
vocalist on Jeff Beck's first solo album, also a well known vocalist today.

Also Zebra: it's one of those rare things that seem to happen to me from
time to time: I heard 'Who's Behind the Door' on the local AOR station this
last weekend; I hadn't heard anything from Zebra for at least a couple of
years. It also reminded me of Quarterflash (a sort of pre-grunge Seattle
progressive band, if I recall) and early Ambrosia (prog before they went
pop; they were also the backing band on the Alan Parsons' Project's first
album; there's a short passage on DT's Awake (6:00?) that reminds me of
Mother Frog (or similar title, I don't have a play list with me) on the
    first Ambrosia album.)

On VH and lyrics: IMHO, VH has never had good lyrics, even with Roth; I'll
just listen to the guitar licks. IMO, Eddie should drop the rest of VH,
drop the bubblegum lyrics, and play real music; but as another J'Yammer
suggested, he probably making too much money to do that. A review of the
latest VH CD in the local rag basically panned the whole album, the only
positive words were for the instrumentals; kinda tells ya something...?

Also on my thread on other guitarists: opinions on Jeff Beck (new and
vintage) and Alvin Lee (vintage, Ten Years After); also George Marino
(vintage from Canada's other Rush, Maghogany Rush (sp?))

I prefer Awake over IAW, mostly because I like Awake's more raw, metal
edge, and also because I've probably burned out on IAW; listened to it too
    much before Awake came out.

It should also be noted that Dann Huff has graced QUITE a few Christian

have never listened to many of those albums if they didnt have those

Hi everybody! I finally got back to the list! (Too bad I really don't
have anything to say.) Well, I transferred to Boston University (new
email address), and I'm working/living in Boston for the summer as well.
Any jammers in the area? Drop me a line. Allrighty then, searching my
    brain for DT content . . . . Ooooh -- Mike's got a new tatoo that reads
"Carpe Diem" on the bottom of his left forearm. (just so you know)

Anybody get tapes of the NJ/NY shows? Please email me if you did. Let's
    trade!!

BTW, did anyone at the NJ show notice that the T.V. monitors were on all
the time (i.e.- They must have taped DT?)? I really want a copy of that
    video. Anybody have it?

Let me just say hi, once again, to all the ytsejammers I met at the
convention. (I'm the rock-trivia guy) I'm really miffed that none of you
have emailed me (Jeff, Greg, Charles, Buck, etc.), though. (hint, hint .
    . .)

Hey Buck -- drop me a line! I don't have long distance yet, so that's why
    I haven't called.

Sorry about all this personal dribble.

    Later, 'jammers!!

I agree that the corus sucks, but it's not just LaBries fault. Yes,
where he sings "Caught in a web, removed from the world ..." it sounds
cheesy, but the music behind LaBrie also sounds cheesy at this point.

Sorry to post this to the list but I need to sell these tickets...

I have to double check with one more friend to make sure he is not
going and then I will be able to sell these 2 tickets for the New
Jersey show in Camden on July 19th. The seats are in the "right center
loge" section and it says row D (but the lady on the phone told me 3rd
row, either she was mistaken or there is no row A).

They cost me about $33 each including service charges. Please mail
     me your offers!

     Thanks!

I know this is DT unrelated but I feel like replying to the guy who said BR is not the greatest drummer ever.

First of all, you seem to be in disagreement with nearly every drummer in the world. BR was a genius. Many of you guys seem to judge talent by what you can see and hear. However talent is much deeper than that. BR had chops. BR never took lessons. BR could play anything. BR could hear a band play a song once, only once, and he could play along to it perfectly, knowing every single tempo change, time change, accent, everything. BR was the greatest. That's it. He was.

"Fuck" is the only way to describe DT's no show on the west coast this year. The way I see it they owe Sacramento a show. WE have not forgotten the no show. When are they going to stop playing places that I can not pronounce anyway?

Favorite DT moment? hmm, let me see. . .

    I'd have to say:

The outro to OAMOT that acoustic part in Learning to Live Bombay Vindaloo <---- can't make it through this one without air guitaring The 9:30 mark in "Scarred" <--- that just screams Rush

And the all time greatest DT moment was when I saw them live and they came out with that tape track, and no one really knew what song they were going to play. When they hit that first chord of Pull Me Under It sent a thrill up my spine like no other. It was almost religous. Lets face it, that song rocks and without it most of us would not be here.

One more thing. I will readily admit that I just jumped on the Queensryche band wagon. It is only because of DT that I even considered listening to the 'ryche. Now I am a huge fan. I recently bought O:M and I am often caught off gaurd by the CD. There are times when if I did not know better I would think I was listening to a maiden CD. Just an observation.

To the jammer in Fresno, I REALLY feel sorry for you.

    >>> Drummers and Bass Players....

    Sorry about Non-DT content, but....

All this talk about Drummers and Bass Players and yet no one has mentioned Les Claypool and Herb "Disturbed" Alexander from Primus! These guys are great. Les does amazingly bizarre things with the bass, and Herb is the rock that Les and Larry Lalonde move around. What do the rest of you think of these guys?

BTW, Michael Manrings "Thonk" album is great. Herb Alexander also plays on it.

While were on a drummer kick, I'd like to say that I think Vinnie Paul (Pantera) is a pretty kick butt drummer. I hadn't listened to them in months but I pulled out Vulgar Display and he blew me away!

Fav moment: The end of Hollow (REAL REAL REAL heavy part!). But whats up with the transition into that part...? They seem to drop like 7/16 of a beat. Maybe they were trying to do something cool like DT would do but they were too dumb to do it...

    Hey Jammerz'

I was wondering how many of you became DT fans right away and how many were made to love them by a DT fan. (A new thread!!!)

I bought WDADU when it first came out and fell in love with DT, everyone else I know that is into DT, became fans AFTER I pushed it on them. It seems a lot of you have similar experiences. So let's find out.

    a) you've got it backwards. LaBrie wrote the verses, Petrucci wrote the chorus. b) I like the chorus. It's a good melodic and rhythmic contrast that accents the power of the verse, imho.

Hey, I always thought that one of the great qualities of literature was that it could have multiple interpretations, based on how the reader (or listener) chooses to relate it to his life. Most poetry is like this. And aren't songs more or less poetry? I think LtL is a very strong lyrical and musical song, and quite frankly I don't find it hard to interpret at all. I always felt DT played towards a more cerebral audience anyway.

Now, you sillies. If you had read my original post correctly, you'd realize I was referring to Derek going to Berkelee and I was implying that if DT picked him, he must be pretty damn good. I know Moore didn't go to Berkelee (sorry for my spelling the first time).

P.S. Has anyone heard of any DT tour dates anywhere near Wisconsin?
