GTR altered their line-up slightly by acquiring vocalist/guitarist Robert
Berry and Marillion drummer Ian Mosely for a second album. This group did
not last very long. They changed their name to Nerotrend, but did NOT
release any material under either name.

Someone mentioned the Musical Lists of Lists early last week, and if anyone
responded, it was when my mail was getting bounced. So, now I'd like to
inquire about this. I need the address for it (if it's working correctly - I
believe the post was to complain that it wasn't). Can someone help me out on
    this.

    Much appreciated,

Hey, forward this message back to your friend, there:

Stop listening to that Q104.3 bullshit. How about listening to a real
rock/metal station instead. Try 89.5FM WSOU. They've been playing DT & FW
for as long as the bands have been around.

I'm not flaming him. It seems he's just a bit 'misguided'. :)

It's really hard to describe Gentle Giant, almost all songs of theirs
sound different and none of the songs sound like any other band I've
heard. I have Octopus and Aquiring the Taste... I'd say try Octopus,
it'll give you a good idea about the band, plus the packaging is neat, it
has lyrics and it has a note from the band about each song and what they
were trying to do with it or just what they were thinking when writing.

Well, partly right. Greg Lake only played two shows with Asia. Both were
in Japan and one of them was the ASIA IN ASIA video. This show was one of
the early MTV concert endeavors and ASIA had to recruit Greg lake quite
quickly since Wetton left and they probably didn't want to lose the video
    money.

    Hi all,

I don't know if anyone alse posted something about DT third gig in Holland

The concert was great, even better then the 1st & 2nd show. They played
(again) a different set, with 'Innocenec Faded', which was not played
on the Euro tour before. Also they played 'Wait for sleep' acousticly!!.
John M. & John P. both acoustic, it was great.

John Pettruci threw 2 picks into the audience, and I have both of them!
    (hehe)

The whole show lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes. When they (finally) went
of stage Mike shouted into the mic "You fuckers RULE!".

All in all a great night.

    see ya,

    My views on Echolyn:

Echolyn's As the World is a very progressive album. It is quite
innovative, but I'm sorry to say, it is not quite yet my cup of tea. I
don't like the harmonized vocals that they use, and the music is a little
    to laxed for me.

For those who are big DT fans... make sure you listen to this before you
    buy it...

    hi everybody!

monday night (13/03/95), i went to the Dream Theater concert in l'Elysee Montmartre, Paris, France. The first thing i did tuesday was to seek for a DT mailing list to express my feeling...

    *WHAT* *A* *GIG* !!!!!

    I couldn't believe it !

In fact i knew the awake album and some parts of the live at the marquee album, and i've been astonished by all the concert.

That's why i'd like to know more about the band, and about the DT addicted... is this reaction a normal one ? :-)))

is there any people who have been to the Paris GIG ?

    have a good day !

    Amicalement,

To add to all of the Echolyn word passing around, I'd have to say that their strongest influence, more than Jethro Tull, Rush or Marillion, [Both Brett(guitarist) and Chris(keyboardist) say that they weren't really influenced by Marillion, I might add] is Gentle Giant. It's the most apparent through listening to their vocal syncopation/harmonies, and, because Brett said so. :) Gentle Giant, for all purposes, has been called by many to be the "quintessential Progressive Rock group." They were extremely innovative and influenced many Prog groups in the seventies and even up until now, as demonstrated by Echolyn.

But the best thing is that no band has ever even showed the *potential* to exist above the "Gentle Giant clone" phase -- except Echolyn. They cer- tainly have things that even Gentle Giant didn't, and I'm sure they're related to both performance and composing. Kudos to Echolyn!! And DREAM THEATER! (There -- now it's not a non-DT article!) :)

I intern at a top 40/alternative lean radio station.

My g/f bought me the Silent Man single (just that one song, unfortunately), and I immediately took it down to the Music Director. I'd talked to him about DT several times. He's yet to put it out.

Anyway, in the interest of getting a fire lit under their asses, I'd like to ask you YtseJammers in the Philly/Trenton area who can get WPST (97.5) to call the station and request the song. I know it'll go over well, but, I've got to convince them to play it!

    Okay - the request lines: (609) 683-WPST (800) 248-WPST

Don't call repeatedly during one show. Jocks remember voices.

Also, calling between 10am & 2pm might have more impact. The Program Director is on at that time. =)

Calls from outside this area are not recommended - LD calls show up on the (800) phone bill. It's amazing.

DO NOT MENTION THIS AD! =) Seriously.

    Thanks much, Hairball

    Hi everone

I met a girl when I saw DT in Stockholm, who were a free-lance-photgrapher. We started to chat and she said that when DT was in Stockholm in April '93 (the Images-tour) she was on stage taking some pictures. I didn't remeber seeing that, thou'. she had had some sort of photo-pass.

I , of course, gave her some money, and now I've got some ( about 10 ) photos from her. She will be sending some more photos from the November'93-tour ( after; Live at the Marquee) , later on she said. BTW she was back-stage after the consert this year, but she found it boring. All that happened was that two roodies sat down and drank beer, with a couple of girls ( Groupies, bimbos ). So she left.

Her photographic style is a bit odd. The pictures are very dark, sometimes you're not even sure it is DT-folk on them. On the other hand they are extremely close, perhaps 1 meter, and even closer on some. That's so cool.

So if any of you want to see them I can scan them and E-mail them to you. I wish I could show them to you in my homepage, but the school I'm in , decided not to go on the global Internet, until August, and by then I'm out of here. We do have an internal net , only for the school, so I have a homepage, but you can't see it. :-(

If you are interested please Email directly to me, and I will send you one as an attachment, so you can check her style out.

ARE there any YtseJammer in South America ? Because I've got a job and will move down there in June. I will live in Buenos Aires, Argentina and it would be so wonderful to have a friend there already. I know absolutely no one there. If so please let me know.

Ok That's all. Now I'm gonna get something to eat. BYE to all of you.

I used to be pissed that everyone had a cool DT poster but me, so I got one:

I just bought an Ibanez USA custom (the same guitar John P. plays) for $1700.00. I made them throw in the Ibanez poster of John... It's fuckin' huge.

I will no longer be taking requests for Kevin Moore dubs. I am off to the Bay Area for spring break soon, maybe I will see ytsejammers there (God, we are everywhere! Scary!)

Echolyn definitely is not influenced by Marillion that much, there is a starck contrast here, while Marillion tends to be moody, dark, somber, Echolyn tends to be more upbeat and fluttery...

please, please, please let there be truth to that rumor!! the echolyn cd is one of the most amazing pieces of music i have ever heard. i was blown away and have listened to all 70 minutes of it over 20 times in the last week.

i really would be worried that the "balls and chunk" type dt fans might not appreciate them as an opener, though, and might react very negatively.

they definitely are not metal by any stretch, but they are very very talented musicians and very mature songwriters...

This is in reply to this guy, who feels the need to flame me for no reason, not even knowing who i am or what i said:

    > From: John Mastin <jmastin@motown.ge.com> > Subject: Don't flame me > > And who was the person giving Babs a hard time? i think that it is to me that you are referring. i was not giving her a hard time. why dont you actually read the message that is in question before posting this? i merely pointed out at the beginning of the "ytsecon" idea that maybe we should wait until we know the dt summer tour schedule before laying down a date and reserving rooms, which seems to be what is happening right now anyway. i never implied that texas would be a better place to have a get-together, i did say maybe we should have regional get-togethers, which seems to be a popular idea.

if you really want to take up your "IOU" i will more than welcome you. just let me know where you will be. i am even planning on trying to make it to the long island get-together (all 2000 or so miles away of it) so let me know if you will be there.

i really think that offering to kick someone's ass on this list for posting an opinion is inappropriate and inexcusable. especially when said opinion was in now way meant as an insult. i was just saying we should wait until we have more info.

you are the one that needs to lighten up, dude.

DT fans I definitley second this statement and everything else he said about this CD. It is REALLY good and it is definitley not anything like the "Cherry Pie" days. If anything buy it at Werehouse, then if you don't like it return it. But it is definitley worth it.
