1 - Close To The Edge (18:50) I. The Solid Time Of Change II. Total Mass Retain III. I Get Up I Get Down IV. Seasons of Man

2 - And You And I (10:09) I. Cord Of Life II. Eclipse III. The Preacher The Teacher IV. Apocalypse

    3 - Siberian Khatru (8:57)

It's not a compliation album. The title track is one of their best songs, And You And I is one of my favorite songs, and Siberian Khatru shows of the rock-n-roll side of Yes... All and all, an excellent album!

    Hello,

I have just recieved my DT membership packages. . .yes, thats right, I have two of them. I ordered the first one and it never came so I thought the check got lost or something like that so I sent for another. On the first one my membership number is 199 and the second one I am 265. They both come with a biography, newsletter/followup about Sherinian 'n junk, signed glossy with the four of them ( I am pretty certain too that they are real, I have two to compare to each other and the signatures are different plus you can see the ink stain on the back ), a membership card, but the difference between the two packages is that one of them (the 199 membership # one) comes with a _Awake_ promotional poster and the other one comes with a little orange post-card size sticker. Now my theory for recieving the poster and the sticker is that either the first 200 people (or how ever many posters they had) got a poster and the rest got stickers; or since I ordered two (did anyone else order two?) they sent two different things. Well, who else has gotten theirs? Well, C-ya later.bye.

Even though I'm writing from Pennsylvania, my girlfriend is studying in London and gave me a full report of the DT show on Wed. night.

She had photo passes for the show, and was able to shoot 3 of Fates songs and 3 DT songs. She said both bands were absolutely unreal! DT sounded the best she's ever heard them sound. Supposedly, Mike sprayed down Fates with silly string during their set, and John P. joined Fates on stage for a song or two. In addition, she said Derek for the most part played well, but had one big screw up. During a quiet John P./Derek S. song, Derek was accompanying John with background music. Supposedly, Derek hit some nasty-ass note that stuck out like a sore thumb. John turned to him with a, "What in the HELL was that" look. The crowd supposedly got a kick out of that.

As for Echolyn, no they are not heavy, and no, they are NOT DT. But, yes, they ARE a great band. I saw them perform in Philly a few months back, and pulled off EVERYTHING live as well as they did on their new CD. Look, progressive rock has a small enough market as it is; we are lucky for what we DO have. Let's not be hasty and put to many limitations on the genre of music we love so much on this list. Give Echolyn, and all prog.rock bands, a listen. You'll never know what you like if you are stubborn about those 'other bands.'

    Dear jammers,

Hey, what's up? You guys wouldn't believe who called me tonight. Here's what happened...

    Jeff: Hello?

Mr. X: Hello, is Jeff there?

Jeff: Yes, this is Jeff speaking.

Mr. X: Hi Jeff, this is John Petrucci.

    Jeff: Uhh...John Petrucci?

    JP: Yeah, what's going on?

Jeff: Hey, how's it going? (with quite some excitement!!! :) :) )

JP: Hey, uh, I've heard you've been calling my wife.

    Jeff: Uh, well, yeah.

    JP: Well, I don't think that's a good idea.

    Jeff: Oh, well, um...

    JP: Gotcha! (Laughter)

Man, I really did not expect a call from John Petrucci!! Isn't that f*ckin awesome???!??!?!? N E ways, he just got back today, and Rena told John to give me a call. Since they were drinking champagne, they were acting a little goofy. So, they decided to pull a practical joke on me!

Well, to business. He said that the tour was great, but it was too long. He's glad to be back at home resting. I mentioned the Ytsejam convention I'm doing with Babs, and he said that DT will probably not be around in July. So, I told him that we'll work around his schedule. So, I'm suppose to get back to him and Babs will speak with Jim (if he calls her back) about more concrete plans for the Ytsejam Convention.

Well, this really made my day!! With the DT fan club stuff and a call from John Petrucci, I'm one happy camper!! Well, TTYL!

    Yours, Jeff =)

I know this is a non-DT post, so, I'll make it short...

My old band opened a show for those guys a few years back at this little hole in the wall which burned down (suspicious, if you ask me - the owner was a tight-wad prick, who I think did it on purpose for the insurance money...) about 6 months ago.

If I'm not mistaken, it was like July 3rd, 1993 - I remember the date because our lead singer didn't show up until our 3rd to last song. He was at a fireworks show with his daughter & his girlfriend, and I wound up singing for the whole set, and was the beginning of the end of my involvement in the band.

I didn't think all that much of them at the time, but, that's probably because I got a bad impression of the band's drummer, who had this huge assed kit, and didn't know how to use more than the kick, snare & high-hat, and was generally a dick.

Anyway, yes, Andre from the 1st Real World was the singer. He wasn't bad, but, the rest of the band didn't do a whole lot for me.

The other gig of note: ex-members of Heaven's Edge (anyone remember them?) in a band called "American Pie." I stayed for 2 songs, and was so nauseated, I had to leave. I remember this gig because our bassist told me that the fairly disinterested crowd (during our set) started booing them, and yelling for them to get off the stage. =)

As he later put it, "No reaction is better than a bad reaction."

The Dream Theater fan club packages are FINALLY out! I paid my membership fee in November 1993! It ain't too bad - long poster of the band in the studio (from the picture in the Awake lyric book), signed promo photo, twelve page biography, and a nifty little membership card that is supposedly essential for advance booking for tickets and other "band-related activities"; it said something about meet-and-greets for members only and that type of thing. No clue when the *newsletter* will arrive; with the track record thus far, it could be 1997 before it comes.

OOC: with all the talk about being into commercial metal back in the 80s, does anyone here listen to the *heavier*, more obscure power metal stuff?? I was into the commercial scene way back then and still listen to some of it, but nowadays I couldn't live without stuff like Savatage, Paradise Lost, Tiamat, Crimson Glory, Wicked Maraya, Solitude AEturnus, Pretty Maids, Blind Guardian, Viper, Skyclad, obviously Fates Warning, etc.

If Prodigy only sends half of this again I'm going to be peeved...

Someone posted in the last YtseJam that the Reigndance album was good. I heartily agree. Check out "Temporarily an Eternity," "Out of the Question," "Open Arms" (no, not that one), and "Second Time Around." I guess they have a new album out but you have to mail-order it and I'm just too damn lazy for that type of thing. But they are a good band. Sort of a hard-rock/alternative hybrid...um, yeah. Anyways, I gotta get some sleep.

My first DT gig, and was it good? It was amazing! The new keys/organ man is superb (almost as good as Jon Lord!) and the band were so tight it was awesome.

The cover they did at the end was Deep Purple "Perfect Strangers", which made my evening being a DP fan too!

Bad points about the evening.......sound. The mix was poor - keys were too quiet, drums too overpowering, vocals bit quiet, the sound engineer had even forgotten to turn some of the smaller tom mikes on!!!!

Nevertheless, it was fab - and definately worth #11.00!

Hello Jammers, I would like to thank Bryan and Steve from Baltimore for helping me out with club information in their area. It is great that this mailing list isn't just an information feeder...everybody is friends and can discuss what they feel and express their opinion. Somebody a month ago or so quoted the list as a community. I definitely agree. Thanks to Steve and Bryan again. I would appreciate if there is anyone from other cities along the East Coast that knows of good original clubs or bars to play? If so, please write me. If you are the one that sent me the tape, please email me with some info, and send me money for return postage if you the tape to be returned. The tape came wrapped in white paper. I am assuming it was either for the Kevin Moore Demos, the PJ tape tree, or the Van Halen accoustic show, but I have no clue. If you are the one who sent it, please also make sure to tell me what color the tape used on the package was as verification that it was your tape.

It gave a list of all the internet stuff on most rock bands, and of course good old YTSEJAM got a mention!!!

Steve Morse's new cd just came out called "Structural Damage". It is a great cd and I highly recommend it if you like instrumental music. JP thinks very highly of him as a guitarist and composer if you don't know who he is. Steve has also joined Deep Purple and is recording and touring with them.

Who's better Who sucks When will people figure it out that you can,t make someone like what they don't like no matter what. If I hate liver, no matter how many times I eat it, you can't make me like it. Its like that in music and in everything else in life when we choose, like cars, where to live, colors etc. Its called FREEDOM OF CHOICE. There are bands I think suck but if you love that same band who cares. You can't make me like it. Just like I can't make you like my favorite band if you don't. Same goes for who is the best drummer best singer, best guitarist etc.

    Pavlov's Dog

Anybody remember them? I saw them in 1975 with Journey and Blue Oyster Cult. Great show. Journey opened up and just KILLED me and my friends. We knew they would be good because we knew Neil Schon and Greg Rollie played with Santana(my all time favorite) but the intensity and musicianship was something 20 years later I still remember. They should have changed the bands name when Steve Perry joined. When Perry joined I never bought a Journey cd. Anyway, Pavlov's Dog was a progressive type band with a violin player that was very good. I saw the import cd from them and wondering if anyone on the list has it if we could work out something for a copy?
