Rob was just making that connection, I told him that "yes, those chords are the same," but the rest of Erotomania is different progressions, a different song altogether, and devoid of the 6:00 riff. I did think it was neat that his ears caught those two chords being at the exact same pitch...

Last year I had the oppertunity to interview James LaBrie. During that session I asked him what DT wanted to do with the song Changing Season. James told me that there were some ideas going on to release the song on a CD EP with possible some other never released songs.
Now you would think why is he bringing this up. Well I missed digest 802 and 803 (to be honest I never received them. Did something go wrong?). In digest 804 there were some things mentioned about Changing Season. The only excisting version I know of and which I have, has to be the bootleg version of the New York concert during Mai 1993.
My question: Does anybody know if Changing Season has been released officially by East West already. If so, please can you give catalogue numbers. Or do we still have to wait for a while.
On the 8th of July DT will do an open air headline performance in Weert, The Netherlands, during Bospop. It will be the second time this year DT visiting The Netherlands. During the Awake tour, in Februari, they played two nights in Utrecht. Twice the place was sold out.
Greetings, Wilco Barg WBG@GSS101.GES.GETRONICS.NL

Hi everyone,
Well, it seems as though we have a money-grubbing traitor in our midst.
There's a person on AOL who goes by the ID "ROSS666." It turns out to be a very fitting pseudonym. I just received an e-mail from him with a list of Dream Theater items he was selling. This list included the _Kevin Moore Demos_ for the <insert heavy sarcasm here> rock-bottom low price of only $10! Excuse me????
Kevin GAVE these demos to us all FREE OF CHARGE. That's the way he wanted it; he wanted everyone who wanted to hear them to be able to have that chance & not have to pay an exorbitant amount of money to do so. I hope that no one out there in their right mind would pay that much for something you can get for FREE for merely sending a blank tape to one of the dub sites around the world that I set up!
I think this idiot had NO idea who he was writing to when he sent me that e-mail, but I'm glad that he did. This way, I was able to alert you all to his petty greed & perhaps now we can all show him what a jerk he is. Here is his info:
Andrew Munves (AOL ID: ROSS666) P.O. Box 1211 Long Beach, N.Y. 11561
PLEASE, out of respect for Kevin's generosity, I would appreciate your support in this "boycott." Avoid this guy like the plague; if he sends you his list, ignore him or tell him exactly what you think of the slimy thing he's doing. Pass this message about him on to every DT fan you know & to every on-line service you belong to that includes a Dream Theater forum. I plan to pass his name & address on to Kevin & his management as well. If you know of anyone else pulling this kind of crap, call them on it & please, let me know about it!
I can't believe that anyone would want to destroy the spirit of Kevin's beautiful gift to us all like this. :( If you want Kev's demos, please e-mail me & I will send you a list of dub sites from which you can get a FREE copy.
Sigh...
On a more positive note, to the DRUM! magazine trivia quiz winners who've already e-mailed me their snail mail addresses, your free copies of the magazine are on their way. Enjoy! :) I will be posting the DRUM! magazine interview w/Mike here on YJ w/in a day or two. It's _extremely_ long, so please feel free to skip it if you don't like posts of excessive bandwidth. :)
Take care all & thanks for your support,
Jennifer <airdance@aol.com>

Hi!
Guess what, I have got some trivia for you, you may or may not believe the following, but it might be true:
As I was sitting here using the new Netscape version (1.1) I noticed myself thinking of nothing but DT in general and the Majesty-symbol in particular all the time. I then discovered the reason for all this. For the new version they replaced that ugly, purple N at the top with a much nicer animation of a white N standing on a black hill with starfall lighting up the sky.
The falling stars are not only lighting up the sky however. I noticed that when the 'star' at the very front moves down past the hill, you can clearly see some texture on the otherwise all black hillside. If you look very closely you'll discover the MAJESTY-SYMBOL, or parts of it, in black with the rest of the mountain greyish. Someone has tried to subliminally influence every WWW-user in the world to become DT-fans.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but didn't someone mention about a 6 or 7 months ago that Kevin Moore wanted to do more NIN type stuff, and that that's why he left. Maybe it's just all the bad drugs talking to me, but I think I remember reading that. So, if it's true, try to keep that in mind, when listening to (or purchasing) those demos.

Um...I've just always thought of this as, "The drum changes tempo while the guitar stays the same." And they throw in an extra 8th note now and then to change the downbeat. Not to ruin your enthusiasm or nothing; it does sound awfully cool, and this song is still my favorite on Awake. 8^)

Our band used to do PMU, and the only part we had to change was the keyboard part in the beginning and the middle - with that, we just had a guitar (with some cool effects) do those parts - otherwise, the rest of the song was just about the same - we put a different ending on it. Of course, we don't do it anymore now, our previous drummer was phenomenal, our new one can't really cut it. We've also done "Silent Man" when we do little impromptu unplugged things around, which isn't difficult, but we are also planning on doing either Surrounded (w/ keyboard, "guitar"ing that just won't cut it) or Under a Glass Moon until we get the Awake tab.
> Respect to all of you struggling with these harder covers and not just > the runofthemill Green Day-Offspring-etc.
As for the "runofthemill" stuff, for a cover band, these would be the "bread & butter" so to speak. If you're going to play in a club that is going to pay you 500 to 1K to play their place as a cover band, there is a good chance that a majority of the people watching you don't really know DT or FW or something like that. Your GreenDay/Offspring/etc. get the most response, and if you're going to do club gigs, those are the ones people like to hear, so you just have to grin and bear it...........

I'm new to this list and to DT (as of the Nov. 5 show here in Chi-town) so all I can say is I NEED SUBCONCIOUS! I NEED WDADU! I NEED TO POST THE JAM!
Space aliens and 30 seconds: I truly love any 30 second bite of the insturmental section of TtT, especially Kev's solo work.
After hearing about singers (and being one), I want to say that though James is good and strong and has range, I still have some problems with his overall ability. A boot I heard (which one? dunno...) he had a lot of problems keeping in tune. I noticed someone posting about sound levels being too high at times. Maybe that's it. But another reason I think I see "flaws" in his performances live is the fact that the rest of the outfit is sooooo damn good! I don't want my first post to be as negative as this, I just wanted to get in on a thread that's been woven recently. On disc, James is amazing (Innocence Faded!!)--he just isn't the best live singer I seen (i.e. Geoff Tate, Seb Bach).
P.S.:agree with Hairball that conversational subjects spin, turn and twist. They don't stay on a narrow path. That would just be a Q&A session. I think we're all multi-dimensional enough to deal with tangents.

um Will. You have the guitar part right, but what about the drums? Listen for the snare on the second beat of the guitar part. It's not there. Portnoy is playing in a different tempo (or the guitar is doing a complicated half note triplet rhythm).

I agree Nypsie. I think this whole song-in-a-song thing is getting out of hand. I've been playing Erotomania a lot since I got the transcription but there's nothing in it that's obviously (to me anyway) from another song. You can use the same chord progression in two songs but it doesn't mean crap. Quoting a melody, like the one from SDV, is different but just playing a few chords in the same order is nothing. I'd like to know where in Erotomania the parts are. People keep pointing out some place in 6:00 is played in Erotomania - where in Erotomania?
Thanks

Since you asked, here's my own two-bit 'critique' of your band's repertoire (for the most part, I really don't think that it's too bad!)
>Domination --- Pantera (their choice, not mine) >Immortal Sin --- Fight >Skin o' my Teeth --- Megadeth >Peace Sells --- " >Angry Again --- " >Holy Wars...TPD --- " >Paranoid --- " >Reckoning Day --- " >Sweating Bullets --- " >In My Darkest Hour --- " > >Disclaimer: I would rather play other stuff than Megadeth I rather like Pantera and Fight; they're good for when I need a blast of balls-to-the-wall aggression (I usually vent my frustrations with everything from Beethoven to Nine Inch Nails). The Megadeth's (IMHO) generally okay-- just don't play anything off of 'Youthanasia' (sorry guys, but I just can't stand that disc!) >Operation: Mindcrime --- Queensryche >The Needle Lies --- " >Empire --- " >Bridge --- " Ausgezeichnet (for all you German speakers)! Queensryche is always welcome (maybe you could substitute 'Someone Else?' for Ugly Kid Joe [please!!!!! :> ]-- flex the ol' piano chops!) >Would? --- Alice in Chains Quite a departure from QR, but I like Alice In Chains, too (what the hell, they're both from Seattle...) >And last But Not Least: > >Under a Glass Moon >Wait For Sleep --- Guess Who? >(Me on keys! YES!) >The Silent Man Uhhhhh...lemmesee..Pearl Jam? :> You can probably make a safe assumption as to my opinion here!! I think your band has a pretty solid set lined up-- it should be a pretty cool show! One question, though: whose role will you be filling on the DT numbers? John P., John M., or Kev/Derek's? Anyway, that's my take on things. Hope it's of some use to you!

I don`t know what 'clinic' means exactly, but during the European tour, Mike played at two drum shops in Germany for one and a half hours each, answering questions and so on. I read about this in Mike`s tour diary.

And, consider that I'm from Cinderella's former home base of Philadelphia, and I went to the same high school as Tommy Kiefer. =) I've known about Cinderella for quite sometime, and still thought they were lousy...after Night Songs, of course.
I hate to say that, but, hey - things happen.
Also: someone (sorry about not remembering names) posted about how "listening to DT makes you appreciate other music more." Well, actually, I have a confession to make.
After being a HUGE Satch-head for years, I've stopped. I didn't even buy The Extremist. Why?
Blame DT. =)
Now, mind you, I'd seen Satriani back when it was the Mover/Hamm rythym section, and walked out cursing, and swearing I was going to light my guitar on fire, and fling it out the window. =)
After I saw the Bissonette/Bissonette/KeyboardistDude show, I walked out saying how lousy the show was. T-Ride (the openers) was more impressive.
BEFORE EVERYONE JUMPS ON MY SHIT, let me explain:
Sure, his leads were technically impressive. But, didja ever stop to listen to the compositions he solos over? Eh. Maybe it's just the fact that the band sounded like a machine, but, I doubt it. I didn't really like the Extremist CD, so, I was hoping the live show would change my mind. It didn't. Even "Surfing" stuff sounded RIGOR-MORTIS. :( I was thoroughly disappointed.
How's this for a random event: At that show, I sat next to this kid who I originally converted into Satch-Head. He even took lessons from my guitar teacher (one of 'em). And I told him after the show how boring I thought it was, and how he should check out DT.
Anyway: Hope I haven't pissed off any Satch heads. But, remember: I used to be one of you. And I still respect the guy's playing. I just don't like his material...<shrug>

I like it just fine and thanks Brandon. First, let me say that, although I may sometimes have that tone, I never mean for my posts to be the defintive answer and I'm always open to a correction. So now that I know that part's in 12/8 I sat here writing it out and listening over and over. Here's what I have now (can you see how I thought it was 3/4 over 4/4?)
The beat:1--2--3--4-- Guitar: xxx xxx xxx Drums: B S B S
Please let me know if this is what the music says.
The x's in the Guitar would be 8th notes in 12/8 so it's really just a syncopation. Count it in 6 and you get: Bass 2-3 Snare 5-6. I was calling those 8ths 16ths so you'd fit three beats of 3/4 in. It still feels that way to me which is just as good. I would still call it superimposing a 3/4 over 4/4 (because of the phrasing). You have to admit that it feels a little weird (no, YOU don't have to admit, but to me it sounds weird). I've been working on weird ryhthms lately so that 3 against 4 is where my head's at right now :|.
P.S. Younis "Yup, I worship Mike" Hilal, that's sort of what I did, I just came up with the screwball version because I never think in compound time (that's changing :). Check above and see if that's what you got too. DT is truly inspiring.
Thanks

Thats close to my source... last year, when I just got the vocalist aud tapes, I saw down for 90 mins, walkman in hand, and played the tape phrase at a time, repeating it until I could get as much of the lyrics down as possible... I then used DoE to try to confirm them... I'll try to integrate the changes that were made (well, the ones that I agree with, at least) into the lyrics on my WWW page as soon as I have time...
