Ok, great news for all the Finnish ytsejammers:
It's been brought to my attention, that Dream Theater will
be playing at the Nummirock summer festival, around June 24th
or something (anyway, the "Juhannus" weekend :*)).
The bill will also include Meshuggah, Paradise Lost, DAD,
Waltari, etc.. but the most important thing is, that Dream Theater
will be there. And I will be there, too. When you see a guy
wearing the ytsejam T-shirt pogoing in ecstacy in front of the
stage when DT is playing, that's me. Come and say hi :)
Now that I'm on the air, I might take the .. take the.. time?
anyway, I just want to scream "FUCK YEAH, MIKE". I've had Subcon
for nearly two weeks now, and I just love it. It's just as good as
I was hoping it would be. Thanks, and good luck on your next projects
(I'll be the first to reserve a copy of WDAJU in the autumn)
Ok, and now I'll conclude this post by whining a bit:
Are the conversations about rap music really necessary on a DT list?
And the pronunciation of "Ytse-jam".. Argh. I thought everybody
should know after the similar thread some time ago.
Ahh well, anyways, keep the posts coming and everything,
and have one hell of a summer (I'm sure I will, with two of
my three fave bands appearing in the summer festivals)
Bye for now.

What can you say? She (Bjork) is at least as hard to understand and to get
to know as our Kev. I strongly believe in connections.
She is in a different genre than we are, but still makes very interesting
music. And she is in some way very attractive too.

His show with the keys is something to watch. Very living. Still I'm sad he

It will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 6:00 PM at the Smithtown,
Long Island Sheraton. I have spoken with DT's Management and they
have guaranteed Mike Portnoy's attendance. Management is currently
working on getting more members of the band to attend.

G'day!
This is about all the rambling about rap music. Just thought I say
something nice about it:
Rap can be SO MUCH FUN!
Damn it people, stop being so uptight! "This band
sucks, 'cause they play only in 4/4!", or "Why the hell are they two
chords to this song, and they keep repeating?".
Music is meant to make you happy, or say something that appeals to you.
As much as I LOVE Dream Theater, I also like U2, Seal and, yes, Rap music!
All I'm saying is that if you concider yourself "music fans" as apart to
a "one genre fan", try openning you mind!
BTW, how do you think DT got so diverse and unique, if not for listening
to (I'm sure) every style of music there is out there!
See ya around
Aviad.
P.S. Boy, isn't the guy who wrote the post about "Petruccianiti" crazy or
what?! Hang in there buddy!

Someone was asking about a DT screen saver...here is what I did.
I took the Awake cover and scanned it, saving it as a .bmp file.
I copied this into my windows directory. I can pull it up
as my wallpaper (I know, it isn't a screen saver) through the
control panel and desktop apps. If I click all the icons and
menus 'down' it works quite nicely actually. I have
scanned I&W, the Bonham first album (don't laugh) and Giant's
Time to Burn covers but they all turned out horribly. Awake
is the only cover that actually looks normal. Anyone else try
this or any other method?
To the person who said he was glad Kev is gone...He may have been
non-emotional on-stage, but his writing is incredible. I think
a lot of DT's best songs lyrically are written by Moore. Petrucci
can't write the whole album himself....

Well, I just went out and bought I&W (finally). That ending on PMU IS
weird. When the radio plays it, I think they fade it out. I thought my CD

Bracken asked recently,
> What do you other jammers who are guitarists, guitar players, or
> even guitar owners (I feel lucky if I fit into category 2) play?
As a guitar "player" (I do mainly rhythm right now, so hence the quotes),
I like political incorrect guitars. I play a BC Rich Eagle and a BC
Rich Bich, both are USA-made, fixed bridge, neck-through models with a
dozen (no exaggeration!) switches and knobs. Since Jazzmasters are all
the rage in Seattle, you can get great deals on used shredder gear. IMHO,
Kramer, BC Rich, and Dean got bad raps because they put their names on
some substandard imported guitars. In the late '70s through the mid '80s,
these American made models, along with the Yamaha and Ibanez Japanese made
guitars, are clearly superior to the Gibson and Fender guitars made during
this period. And yes, Bracken, I played Kramer too until I sold them in
order to buy the BC Rich axes.
Along the same lines, what do you YTSE-BASS-JAMMERS play? I play a
BC Rich Mockingbird 4-string (you know that was coming), a Rickenbacker
4008 8-string (blame Chris Squire for that one), and a Peavey TL-6 6-string
(blame John Myung for that one). If anyone interested, I am selling the
6-string bass. Here are the details:
o USA handmade, neck-through-body construction
o ** MINT ** condition
o Madagascaran ebony fingerboard, 24 frets, 2.25" wide at nut
o Multi-piece maple neck with purpleheart stringers
o Flamed maple body (not just top!), cherry sunburst finish
o Active EQ with volume, pickup blend, bass, mid, & treble pots
o Gold hardware with Dunlop straplocks
o SKB hardshell case
o List price $2000, selling price $850
E-mail me with any questions.
Bassically,
Chuxter (charles.hanley@c0076.ae.ge.com)
P.S. If anyone in the U.S. has PAL or SECAM copies of Dream Theater or
other prog rock/melodic metal bands, I have access to a NTSC (U.S.A.

re: single coils suck
i split my bridge pickup into separate coils often, and it sounds much
stronger than the humbucker because all the cancellation involved in
humbucking makes the signal end up sounding relatively flat. not bad,
dont get me wrong, but it lacks the attack of a single coil. however,
single coils are noisy and sometimes too trebly, which is a tradeoff but
saying they suck is plain ignorance... they often sound much more
aggressive than humbuckers and more raw... listen to LATM, a lot of the
heavier, muted stuff john does with only one coil from his bridge
pickup... much crunchier than the humbucker sound he used on the album
(particularly metropolis and part of pull me under)

Hello everyone, it's Babs. I just wanted to congratulate Nathan Bradley
as being the first ytsejammer to cough up the cash for the dinner at the
convention. His check arrived all the way from Minnesota. Stand up and
take a bow Nate. Also, this is to remind you all that I need to put down
the deposit on the banquet room shortly so I need for you wonderful guys
to open up your wallets and let the moths out.
Here's a question that I want to pose to everyone and it will be a little
bit more interesting of a conversation than how to pronounce YTSE.
If we could have a special drink made for the convention (i.e. the official
Dream Theater drink) what should we put in it? Talk amongst yourselves and
let me know - the responses ought to be good.
-BABS
PS DT's assistant manager pronounces it Yit-see, but I pronounces it
Yet-see on the phone with him and nobody corrects me. Also, while
I am at it, I wanna tell you all to stop picking on my Western New York/
Canadian twang. I can't help it, you think I talk funny what about
you downstater's. I called the Sheraton a couple times (as well as
another Ytsejammer) and we both couldn't understand what the people on
the other end were saying. Pretty funny eh and I'm in the same state
as THEM.

well, taking it one step further...(i haven't done it myself, but
i know it would work cool)....you could take the bitmap you have
of the awake cover, and use an existing screen saver which allows you
to take bitmaps and display them. i have one (can't remember the name),
and you can display a bitmap, and make it bounce around the screen.
so i'd get the awake cover, and make it bounce...i think it would
look pretty cool if you could scan in the cover from the lie single (the eye).

For the dud looking for Fates' "Outside looking in"....It's on Inside Out,
released just theis year. GREAT DISC! Check out "Islands in the stream".
Killer ballad!!!
p.s. I just posted that I owned a Guild D-4 acoustic. Just found out in the
studio this weekend that its a D-4E....BUILT IN PICKUP!!! Like I said, I'm
pretty much a beginner!!! For the guy buying the Gibson Lespaul Studio in
Midnight Blue, what year is it to cost $2.5K? I thought they only run about
$1,000.
DT content.....after recording this weekend, I have an extremely hightened awe
of what DT comes out with on dic. I'm surprised with how much work goes into
just the simplest of songs!!!

I've seen it posted here several times about expectations of the forthcoming
new Kansas album 'Freaks of Nature'. Well, I'm happy to say that the new
album kicks ass. I went to a Kansas concert this weekend and several songs
off of the new album were played. They seemed to have gotten back to the
older sound, but with a harder edge. A big sigh of relief for those of us
DT, Kansas and Rush fans who were afraid they'd take a Top-40 approach this
time. NOT!!!

Hi jammers!
nice to see the list traffic back up to normal!
i was driving around today in the car looking for something cool on the radio (
i never listen to radio ...) and PMU was on the hard rock station... it made me
happy :)
just thought id share that ( had to watch the speedometer closely too! ) ;)
also , i walked into a cd store and something immediately caught my eye... a
cool purple and blue cover with a flying dolphin and the word "ASIA" on top...
i was like "awesome...the guys on the jam were talking about this awhile back
.." It was there album "aqua" and only for $7.99 !!
needless to say i bought it... havent listened closely yet but it is sortof
cool and sortof cheesy from first listening....
later ...

so much for king crimson
I was hoping against hope that kc would appear
on tonite's david letterman
but ha! no such luck
not only that but I had to sit through
about ten minutes of a lame monologue to find this out
(could have been worse, I suppose
I could have had to sit through forty-five minutes or so
of spap to hear/see maybe five minutes of Prog)
not only that but
since I live in a dorm
I had to run up and down the stairs
to try to find a tv that wasn't watching beavis and butthead
(ever since we got cable...)
heheheheh dave sucks
let me amend that:
heheheheheh tv sucks
I think I'll just buy Thrak anyway
based on all the favourable comments I've heard
though I was hoping to preview some of it...

Well, everybody else is doing it so I will too :)
The Gear I Use:
Roland D50
Roland CM32P (like a u220 in a different box)
Kawai k1r
Ensoniq ESQ-1
Epiphone Les Paul Standard (made by Gibson)
Gallien Krueger 250RL Amp (Stereo)
IBM 386 w/Power Tracks Pro and a Gravis Ultrasound for sampling (the GUS
and PTP are brilliant for the money BTW)
I will soon have a Fender Precision Bass w/ Seymour Duncan HOT pickups
(same as those used by Steve Harris -- great sound)
I am currently looking for a rack mounted sampler to use live ala the
EPS-M or Peavey DPM-SP

> An even more extreme case is that of the guitarist from Primus. (I don't really have the energy to go up to my room and look up his name right now.) If you've heard the guitar from that band (Particularly "Pork Soda") you're lucky tohear a note that actually MAKES sense. Luckily Les's talent gels the band and keeps it from totally falling apart. Would you believe that with all that, I'm a big Primus fan??
Yep. Larry LaLonde (that`s his name!) is really pushing hard to be heard
among bassist Les` grooves.
One of these techniques is the permanent weird "soloing" over Claypool`s
playing (Les does pretty all the rhythm and harmony work!) The result is
the typical Primus sound. Yes, Primus sucks!

Hi People!
Senser, mentioned in Jam #829, ARE great (I like the dance tracks also),
but you should ALL try out a band called Biohazard. They've been having
rellative succses lately, so you probably heard of them. They're, to me,
the best in the area of Hip-Hop metal. Grooves from hell and nifty
bass-guitar-drum work. Check out especialy "Urban Discipline".
See ya!
Aviad.

A little disclaimer about my posting about info. concerning Bush.
The band is pretty cool, some of the songs on teh disc are worth
listening to....Anyway, the reason I wanted to know tour dates is
because a friend of mine really likes them a lot, and she had
tickets to see them in Jersey, but got screwed over big time by the
club and wound up being turned back at the door.
Me, being the very nice that I am, said that I could get her
tickets for the next time they come around. Me, being the *stupid*
guy that I am, didn't realize at first that my mouth worked faster
than my brain and now I'm stuck with this promise that is hanging
over my head........
I don't what it is, but the way that females can sometimes
bring the male brain to a state of mush (how's that for technical)
is totally mind-boggling.......
Anyway, if anyone can help me out with this, please let me
know......an Atlantic records E-mail address (if available) would
really be great too.......
