Never having seen QR live before, I didn't have too much problem with the
San Jose show. I was sitting perpendicular off to the right of the
stage, so my right ear was more toast than my left, but I thought it
sounded pretty good. If Geoff normally sings like he does on the album
live, wow! Most singers can't, even those less ambitious than Geoff and
James (Is James the only singer who sings notes HIGER live than on the
    album?)

Anyways, I heard on the radio afte the show that Geoff was not feeling
well that night, so one could add a cold to the rest of the diagnosis.

Is there any chance fo a second round of subconscious CDs? I was too
broke to get one on the first go around, and I'm going to be out in the
Sierras from June 24th to Aug 17th (If there's a DT show in San Fran
during that time, I'm gonna be really upset) so is there any chance fo me
being able to order one when I get back? Please say yes... :)

I also didn't think TON was that bad... I might pick up something of theirs.

         ~Chris

Ahh.. one thing that I didn't mention... this was for the Queensryche
show, not DT... I realized this after I sent it... I had origionally sent
it to SiD, but then decided to CC it here... That was the QR show that I
meant... I still have no clue about DT seats... I doubt that DT would be
in Starlake anyway... I mean... It is a little big for DT, for now at
least... Plus, I'd much rather see DT in a general admission atmospere...
I mean, after seeing them here in IC Light Ampitheater, then in Providence
as GA shows, then Berklee w/ seats... I think that for a _small_ crowd, GA
is the way to go... (not that seats kept me any further away... I had 7th
row, but walked up to the stage anyway...)

For those of you that haven't already written to me about it or ordered copies in the past, Metropolis Watch is <as far as I know, anyway>, the _only_ US Dream Theater fanzine, and I need

    *** CONTRIBUTIONS! ***

for issue 9, which, with luck, will be on the press and ready to go by late June. Anything! Live DT reviews! Reviews of little known prog or power metal bands! <Such as Echolyn, mayhap?> Thoughts on the lyrics of a particular DT song, be they inane or profound! Anything concerning DT or the underground will be most welcome.

And while I'm thinking about it, I think I read a while back that there is also a parody of "Space-Dye Vest" or something similar - would someone post that or email it to me, por favor? I've already printed "Pull My Finger".

Most of you seem to enjoy seeing your words flowing across a computer screen, so here's your chance to have them on a slightly more tangible mode of DT insanity: black ink on paper. Oh, and did I forget to mention that the entire band will read whatever you write? <no, that last statement is NOT propaganda from hell, the fanzine's been sanctioned by Mike himself!>

Hey, it won't even cost you a stamp; you can email me all contributions, or price inquiries if you're interested in ordering an issue or subscribing. <please?>

At last! I'm here. I am proof of how far DT's music has spread. I live in Hamilton, New Zealand. New Zealand is a place where no decent band will ever play. Why? Because the local populace are only into the current rubbish on our commercial radio stations. Extreme cancelled for lack of sales, and yet they had to hold an extra U2 concert as well as another Rolling Stones concert to handle the demand! What chance do I have of ever seeing DT live here? Not much. I first heard DT on a compilation guitar instrumental album (the track was Yste Jam!) and was totally blown away by the technical brilliance (and total masturbatory excessiveness) of that track. After buying I&W I heard what the band sounded like with decent production behind it and was even more impressed. Now I am trying to buy ANY DT I can lay my hands on. The only problem is distance and the exchange rate. It is good to finally get up with the play. See ya later,

I don't know whether or not this is in the FAQ or not, but do we know who wrote the lyrics to Don't Look Past Me? It sounds Kev in some parts and JP in others. This is something I've wanted to know for a long time, but could never remember to ask.

I'd also just like to say good-bye to everyone because my Subconscious CD didn't come in the mail yesterday so I'm afraid I'm going to have to go and drive off a bridge, so thanks for all the insights and conversation and I guess I'll see you in the "Afterlife." <sorry, couldn't resist>

    'jammers,

I'd like to say hi to the two Canadians who recented posted letters. I graduated from U. of Waterloo in '93 in engineering and to Rob (I think) I'm from Thorold originally (neighbour of St. Catharines). My sister had a similar e-mail address because she went to Niagara College as well in Radio and Broadcasting (just graduated).

Can anyone predict if DT will play anywhere else in Canada besides Toronto or Vancouver (ie Calgary!)?

    Hello out there.

I got the Kevin Moore demos tape Saturday. Thank you to Mark Tiplady for sending it to me.

You were all right in that the tape was _different_ from DT. But I think most of it is cool stuff. It didn't take the tape long to grow on me. But then I know my taste in music is rather wide. Wider than most of my friends anyway.

BTW. Does anyone know if any of the songs are released? I guess 'Song for Eric' is on a Tori Amos cd. And of course SDV is on Awake. But the others - are they new projects. Like possibly-coming-on- Kevins-next-album songs?

Any news on what he is doing now?

I'm opening myself up for a lot here so here goes.... <grimice>

On the subject of Geoff's voice going...What about James'. On I&W it sounded beautiful! Yes, there was alot of producing involved but still beautiful. On Awake it seemed a lot more "rough". I winced at the first few words I heard... I accounted it to their touring... Just my 2 cents. Before flames burn down my house...I do love DT! (All their stuff!) =)

Another question... Is there a Metropolis-Part II? I loved the first part.

And one final clarification: What is the correct pronuncation of "Ytsejam"? I know it's kinda hard to do that with just letters.... Thanks for your help!!

    Dave.

First of all I just want to say---- DON'T POST THE QUEENSRYCHE SET LIST!! Somebody post that guy directly. Some of us are still waiting for the show to find out what they play. Like I haven't heard enough of the setlist already. Bootlegs--- If someone is able to get me a copy of the Queensryche radio show or "A KICK INTO A DREAM" please e-mail me with that info. Concert News-- If anyone has a chance to see Echolyn with DT, go for it. I hope they do announce more East Coast dates, because I'm there. Personal Note-- 4 more days til King Crimson!!!!!!!!! (That Dave thing was a HOAX) Yes News--- If you haven't heard Trevor Rabin is out of YES and, Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman are back in. The new line up consists of 70s band-- Andreson, Howe, Wakeman, Squire, and White. Does anybody like me think these guys can put out a solid album.

One last note I just (finally) got my Kevin Moore tape about a week ago. It is somewhat industrial but it excludes the heavy guitar (i.e. Something I can Never Have NIN). It is excellent and I hope to see him get picked up soon. Is it going out of reach to say this man Could open for DT. I mean He didn't have a fight with the guys, he just left because he plays different music.

    Still waiting for SubCon--Andy

My buddie who sends this mail out for me (John), wasn't quick enough to get the mail out in time to break the Yes story. How about that guys? What does everyone think.

i am counting the days till King Crimson (4!!!!) and Queensryche (over fifty). I feel shity because I am only going to one show at this point, but that soon will change, payday is around the corner. Is there anybody else who is going to see 'Ryche on July 19th, e-mail me. Later Jammers.

    FUCK YEAH, MIKE!!!!!!!!!

I got home for the weekend (from school), and low and behold, there was my precious #348 SUBCONSCIOUS on my bed. I ripped open the package and ran up to use my brother's CD player (mine's still at school till the end of the school year). He *was* listening to something at the time, but *I* didn't care.

    Here's some first reactions:

Eve- cool samples... ACOS- holy crap, it's awesome, I listened to it about 5 times over the weekend (in fact I'm listening to it now), can't wait until the EP O Holy Night- interesting Carry That Weight- Beatles who???? Don't Look Past Me- hummmm... Wanted Dead Or Alive- hilarious, I love it!!!! To Live Forever- it does seem to be sped up (instrument-wise), though LaBrie doesn't seem much different, why does Baghdad care if Patriot missiles are over Cuba? The Gorilla Session- noodling is a good discription Mission:Impossible- great jam, I loved that show, they should bring it back and have DT do the intro music Back Pain Jam- wow, talk about improv Awake Heavy Jam- it's good, but *I* wouldn't call it heavy (but then again, I listen to Testament, Megadeth, Tourniquet, Betrayal, Deliverance...) Experimental- John Myung?? cool! Tears & Winter- never heard the original(s) but still great stuff Mystery- software comes to mind...

Can't wait for the ACOS EP *and* WHEN DREAM AND JAMES UNITE!!!!!!
