Lucky for both of us (maybe just me...too much gas money to drive to AZ) that the rest of the CD sounds 10X better. With each listen, though, it grows on me. I can hardly recognize the "fuzziness" anymore. Too bad James sang the last few words of the (normally) climatic parts inverted, if you know what I mean. >o holy night- where the other tunes sound awesome, i didn't like the quality >of this one as much (but that's ok). Same here, except (as with above) it has grown on me. I now feel that the "hall" sound on it makes it more...seasonal? Holiday-ish? Christmassy... definitely Christmassy. Give it a few more spins...I bet it'll grow on you, too.

On Brandon's question 'is there going to be a Metropolis part two?'. I don't think there's going to be one. I read an interview with JP in 'Theater of Dreams' (Dutch fansize) that the addition 'part I' was merely intended to emphasize the endless lyrics. Get the drift?

I have not yet received my No 221, but I believe that 6.00 and another track were taken from the Bruce Dickenson Rock show on BBC Radio 1. Michael may confirm that. The Perfect Strangers would have been recorded at the same time, just before Ronnie Scotts. The songs may be truncated because Bruce talked over the start/end. I have the tape so will check. Hi, I found following article on Germany Rock Hard magazine(September issue). Would any Germany Ytsejammer like to translate this?

Just a little question about the CT show at the end of December. I got a money order and sent it to the El-N-Gee about a week and a half ago and I still haven't gotten a ticket in the mail yet. Has anyone else ordered like this and actually got a ticket? Please just e-mail me personally, thanks. I just know I better not get screwed out of seeing DT because some guy didn't send me my ticket. I hope the show isn't sold out yet.

    Hi from Krautland

I guess I'll just have to agree with some of you guys for once, and admit that Scarred is possibly my favourite DT track, too. That ending is just something that I want to go on for a long time. Which could perhaps also be the reason that it has never been played live: once they start playing the end, they just don't want it to stop either, and would go on, and on, and on...

Note for Zach Gemmill: I agree with what you say about Ivanhoe having their own sound. This was definitely the impression I got when I saw them here 10 days ago. I think they played the little bits of DT and Metallica in the encore just to take the musical piss out off themselves (musicians with a sense of humour: a dying breed).

Note for the Digital Man: stop beefing about having no alternative to MTV. There is a second music channel here in Germany (VIVA) and it is much much worse. Apart from the twice-weekly metal show 'Metalla', it is mainly aimed at 'girlies' and covers vitally important themes such as squeezing zits before your first disco, and 'oral sex - a matter of taste?'. (Little joke there)

Anything else? Yes, I just heard that Machine Head sacked their drummer Chris Kontos: perhaps Mike Portnoy would like to step in and take over the job? He plays the double kick drums just as fiendishly and he's fast enough, too.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)

You said she was holding something besides the mirror. I still have my cd longbox from I&W so I examined a pretty big picture, as opposed to a tape cover. All I see is the mirror. There is a purple ribbon on her nightgown and its close to her hand. It could look like she was holding it. Another thought on the cover- since the members of DT are "standing" on the same floor pattern as the room on the cover, do you suppose the girl is staring at 5 little men dressed in black and wondering what they are doing in her bedroom?

And now your regularly scheduled once-a-week-or-so Dragon commentary, replete with an explicit subject line! :)

[Criss Oliva] << 2.Was he ever a member of Dream Theater? NO So why do all of us who never even knew him personally have to read, and send posts about him to Ytsejam, the DREAM THEATER digest???? >>

Is there something wrong with wanting to honor a guy some of us respect as a musician who was tragically killed by a drunk driver instead of letting him drift into obscurity? Yes, this is a Dream Theater mailing list - but do I mind reading about other bands as well? No, not at all. If I had the money and time to expend in searching, I probably would be trying to check out bands like Echolyn and Ivanhoe and others that have gotten massive rave reviews here, whereas I never would have heard of them anywhere else. If you don't want to read about it, then don't; god knows how many posts each Jam that I just zip through without reading because I'm not interested in the subject. It's like that TV censorship thing: you know where the remote is, so change the channel or turn it off!

<< > Jodi(Yet another FEMALE progressive rock fan!)

Cool. There aren't enough of you out there! Though I must admit that a female DID get me into Rush. She also showed me an interview with DT in a magazine and noted the Rush and Queensryche influences. >>

Am I the only person (female OR male) who got *myself* into metal (be it prog, power, or whatever) without the influence of anyone else? I got a laugh out of whoever also commented how female prog fans aren't into air-guitaring, dashboard-drumming, gas-pedal stomping, and all that other silly stuff you guys do when listening to DT and the like. ;)

As for DT vs NIN... I love Dream Theater. I also happen to like some of NIN's stuff; hell, I can never resist the urge to mosh when someone plays "Closer". If someone likes a band that I hate - oh well. Everyone has different musical tastes; just because someone likes a band you despise isn't a reason to get all hot under the collar. Be cool - be tolerant, for pete's sake. People will respect you more. Yes? No? Bite my own tail? :)

I'm willing to trade for it, or pick up tape/postage costs, but I need it to go out, like first thing tomorrow. I want to use parts of it in a presentation on Tuesday or Wednesday, so it really needs to go out tomorrow (Saturday), unless of course someone is home today, and can get it in today's mail. Please resopond ASAP, and I'll give you my address, and we'll work out the deal. I still have a couple Awake picks from around the time Awake came out. Perhaps a trade could involve these.

This is an urban legend, like the Craig Shergold postcard thing or the "Good Times" virus hoax. According to the excellent urban folkore FAQ:

I'm going to be in Amsterdam next weekend (10-13 November).

Can any Dutch ytsejammers recommend any nice bars/places to go/things to do? I won't have much free time :-(

I don't suppose Dream Theater will be playing in Amsterdam that weekend?

Don't worry, Patricia, I won't be sick on the ferry :-)

*chortle* You have no clue how often I get picked on down here in the "south" because I talk like I have raisins up my nose - I don't say 'cat', I say 'caaat'. You will never hear me ask for 'soda'; I'm from one of the few regions in the US (Rochester, NY) that says 'pop'. (Right, Babs? hahaha) And then I have a whole plethora of southern and British expressions, which is to be expected when I'm surrounded by rednecks and I live with a girl from England. <G>
