I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'll post it again since I keep seeing these messages saying "Scarred isn't on the tape.". The reason that Scarred was not put on the tape is because (at least this is what the band says) it would've been too long, and the integrity of the tape could've been compamised (sp? It's 7am, leave me alone :). So to make sure the quality of the tape could be good, they left Scarred off. Chris

It was new last Christmas Graham, and I already had the man from Phillips in but all he did was clean the laser and say he'd have to take it back for testing, but I could not do without it - well could YOU ? However Ed has come up with a good idea that the disc is not actually spinning up to speed, which to my computer engineer collegues seems possible. Thanks Ed. Patricia

Oh, it happens all the time - instead of having to pay a fine if you're caught speeding, you just get sent to Canada instead. Then, after trying to drive on the wrong side of the road for a while, you realise how bad a driver you really are, and you swear blind never ever to drive faster than 10mph again.

As far as "progressive rock" goes, the constant infusion of new influences broadens our musical styles and tastes. What would have happened if Rush decided not to accept new technologies, such as keyboards, sequencers, etc.. because they were a rock band, Neil Peart says one of his earliest influences was King Crimson, now there was a band on the fringe for the times.(early 70's) What I'm trying to get at is, how can someone who listens to "progresive" music and not like the sources of their influences, or at least respect them, I've seen so many musicans that said that they were fanatics about Rush and Yes, but hate classical and Jazz, Imagine that Alex Lifeson did not look into studying classical guitar, can you imagine the song "closer to the heart" without it's wonderful introduction, or how about "The Trees" need I say more? All in all, we spend too much time cutting down other styles of music (usually the ones we don't listen to) and not enough time expanding our musical horizons to find new music that will give us that same thrill that we felt the first time we heard "Siberean Katru"or "Close to the Edge" ,"Xanadu" or yes (YES?) even "A Change Of Seasons" Radio and MTV have been feeding us crap since 1981, don't complain that Janet Jackson and Green Day suck, they are doing something that( as musicians) hopefully makes them happy, it's the programmers and CEO's that are responsible for the mass produced sludge and thinks of the record buying public as morons. Bottom line: Listen to what you like, and try and expand your mind, but don't waste your time bitching that evreything else sucks, life is too short.

Some have listed Kiss as one of their favorite bands and may potentially want to check out this show. I was one of those people, if you were interested too, read this: First, it IS NOT a KISS reunion like the MTV special. Second, it is not Ace and Peter with two other guys playing old KISS songs. Rather it IS Peter Criss' band opening for Ace's band. Which was not how the ads in the Balt/Washington area led you to expect. Peter sings with Ace's band for some KISS songs such as "Strange Ways" and that was killer! But for the most part the show was disheartening. The review is from the show at Hammerjacks in Baltimore, MD 11/8/95 Peter Criss played mostly weak unmotivating solo material. They played a few KISS songs, 100,000 Years, Strutter and Black Diamond. The band encored with an acoustic set that featured "Hard Luck Woman" and "Beth". (this pains me to write the following about one of my drum idols) Whatever drumming ability Criss had back in the KISS days, is LONG GONE now! His meter fluctuated (even on songs he didn't sing backup). He had many mis-hits, played fills ending off time, fumbled his sticks and generally sucked! If you have fond memories of this drummer, DO NOT see him on this tour; you ideas will change quickly. Ace's band blew the roof off the concert hall. They nailed many KISS classics, "Shock Me", "Watchin' You" and "Cold Gin" and were joined by Criss for faves "Nothin' To Lose" "Rock And Roll All Nite" and "Strange Ways" (again, awesome). His band was inspiring and well seasoned featuring the same lineup as last year's tour. But this time Ace was SOBER. Ace played his solo material as well, "New York Groove", "Rock Solders" from the past and a new song "Sister" from a forthcoming release. Keeping this in mind, watch for a tour date near you. I would suggest saving the ticket money and pulling out those scratched LPs (or updated CDs) and savoring the memories....

Now that I've got your attention...

Anyone ever noticed that JP can't ever get the tone right on the opening tunes to PMU live? My friends and I have caught this a few times and I was wondering if it was just us.

Also, has anyone out there read "Metamorphosis" recently?

I have Eudora, it's a neat little thing, but I stopped using it after a few days.

+++It was "Is It For Me" on the "Fear" album. I had just bought it the day before. Probably my favorite song on the album. I steal need to get "In Light Syrup," "Bread and Circus" and "Pale."

    Richie

P.S. And in regards to that whole Bad 4 Good discussion, they were a band that had either really good songs or really bad songs. No middle ground. Now they're called Lucy's Milk and have a different guitar player. Somehow I couldn't handle Sam from Different Strokes saying, "C'mon queeny, rock my body."
