Hi everyone! This is my first time posting something here. Am I doing OK
so far?
This is for the guy who had the survey. I know I'm a little late...
1. The first DT I actually purchased was IAW, but someone dubbed WDADU
for me before that. I hadn't ever heard stuff from IAW when I bought it.
2. I guess if I had to pick one favorite tune it would be "Learning to
Live."
3. The least fave would probably be "Lie."
4. I'm 21.
5. Last I checked I was female.
6. The instruments I have basic knowledge of are piano, violin,
doublebass, bass guitar, clarinet, oboe, alto sax, flute, guitar, and
bassoon. I am most fluent on Doublebass and bass guitar.
Anyone know of any Fates Warning tour dates? I heard they were gonna tour
after "Chasing Time" came out.

I would like to see them do ELP's arrangement of Ginastera's "Toccata", maybe
"Tarkus" or "Karn Evil 9" or maybe even "Mars the Bringer of War" from the
ELPowell album. Wouldn't it just be bitchin' to hear Petrucci crunching on the
Mars ostinato? I wouldn't mind seeing them do "Awaken" by Yes, either, or
"Los Endos" from Genesis. And maybe, just for kicks, they do "Headed for a
Heartbreak" by the illustrious Winger, like I said, just for kicks.

With all this talk of DT screw-ups, I remembered seeing what must be one
of the best:
I saw them at the Palace in New Haven, CT last October ('94), and they
played "Another Day"--or tried to! The intro went off without a hitch,
but once the rest of the band went to join in, chaos began. I don't
remember what happened first, but either somebody was way off in their
timing and screwed everyone else up, or John P's rack just decided to
spontaneously shut down, and that screwed everybody up.
Either way, everybody in the band got all confused, there was no guitar
whatsoever, and after a few measures, Mike finally just stopped playing,
stood up and waved his arms as if to say "STOP!" As he did this, James
shook his head and said "No fucking way!!" (I believe that was a direct
quote).
After they composed themselves, James said "Hey, give us a break--this is
only our third show!" and they went on to play the song perfectly.
"...And they lived happily ever after."

There seems to be a 007 theme going here (refer back to my Duran Duran "A

OK HAIRBALL...in an earlier post you mentioned that you had been called
various names on the "Jam"...you mentioned a few demeaning ones...including
"asshole". Well buddy...., I am the one that called you that!! And I ONLY
meant it if you had access to a CD _recorder_!! If you do have access to one
then...well..uh..OK........BUT if you did NOT..then you are not one, and the
use of the word (asshole) constitutes some type of legal thing, so now I am
considering a lawsuit against you. I know people who have lawyers so I will
be speaking to them about possible legal remedies regarding your flagrant use
of 'the word'.
On a different thread. I thought Ytse and Jam were real jammers..was I wrong?
I didn't like Jam much, though....he was somewhat of a Fucking Idiot, if you
know what I mean.
On another different thread...I WAS THE SCREAMER IN Bombay Vindaloo (
LatM)...NOT that liar Ken Ernst. BAFU VAI, if that is your real name, do you
REALLY think Ken(if that is his real name..) is the SCREAMER...you (fucking
idiot) fool!!
OLD JOKE...how can you tell an audio engineer is in a level studio??...he or
she drools out of both sides of the mouth equally. This is true!!
What do audio engineers keep in case of an emergency??... a box of "Depends"
Also...the guitarist's name is STEVE VAI, not Bafu Vai....this Bafu guy is an
imposter...don't be fooled...ask Bafu to upload some guitar stuff....HA!!
won't happen.
OK so I am stupid...what the hell is a "vibrating pussy"??... never heard of
a drink like that....so, how do I get one?? :--)
HAIRBALL...so you are on the air, huh?? SO...... how come I can't hear you in
Portland Oregon?? Answer that!! I tune in and all I hear is the local Jazz
station...hmmmmm, another lawsuit might be in order.!!
MIKE BAHR!!! Acoustic Dreams is Great!!! Your best yet.

Anyone see King Crimson on Conan? If so, maybe you can answer a few
questions:
1. Is the corpse on rhythm guitar not allowed to move or show emotion, or
did he do that for shock value?
2. When does the base player's visa expire? It must be soon, because his
clothing dates back to the early 1900's.
3. Two drummers are better then one?
Has anyone heard that ACOS CD? Fuckin' nuts. There is a twenty minute
song on it. I'll copy it for a fee, since it is obviously a rarity.
I noticed Moore wasn't in the lineup in the new album. What the hell?
Can anyone clarify? Oh, and when did John decide to get married? Geez.
Lotta stuff goin' on. At least I have my blind melon.

I saw the band King Crimson on Conan O'Brien tonight. What a fuckin joke!
What the hell kind of "music" was that? Some of the poorest shit I've
ever seen. They were screaming about dinosaurs or something, and I think
I'd rather listen to music by dinosaurs. They also looked about as old as
some dinosaurs.

Okay Jammers,
You folks've been communicating in all these abbrebiations it takes me
forever to figure out what each of them means. Anyways, that's not my point
here. I would like to find out more about this 'Acoustic Dream(s)' thing.
Is it like a Dream Theater bootleg or something? Whoever's in charge of this
bootleg business, I would like to get in touch with you and find out more
about how I'm missing out on this Dream Theater stuff. I was pretty happy to
have all their official albums and stuff (When the dream and day unite,
Images and words, Live at Marquee, Live in Tokyo video, Awake, and A change
of seasons) then here I am sitting in front of my computer finding out how
much I'm missing out on the real Dream Theater stuff. So, if any jammers out
there wants to share your great collection of Dream Theater with me, please
contact me at 'king-crimson@msn.com' I would really appreciate it. Thank
you.
Rock on Jammers!

and first sat down to listen to it I felt like a new world was

One of my friends asked the other day, how could I like a song

I listen to Dream Theater...
So, I await all opinions for discussion - I'll answer all personal mails -

produces the Images and Words Dream Theater fanzine this morning:
Patricia
Thanks for your bits and pieces. also for pestering MIKE about
the ACOUSTIC DREAMS ! I look forward to receiving it and the RUSH
one also.
I got the next issue ready sooner than I expected, so Mike's piece
didn't make it, but will go in the next issue for sure, along with
your piece on The Dream Theater.
I'm going to bring up the subject of the Fan Club with New York,
to see if we can get something sorted out about it. I'm going to
see about getting mechandise etc.
I've just got my new PC and I'm waiting for a new faster modem, so
then I can get on the web and hopefully conquer the world ?!?! If
I could get all the buyers of 'AD' to sign up....
I'll get 2 copies off to you when I get the magazine back from the
printer next week.
Cheers Neil

Hi all,
it looks like Mike Stover beat me to it: *I* was going to point out the ELP
did an album with Cozy Powell on drums. May the fleas of a thousand camels
infest your armpits.
Yesterday I mentioned that the German band Blind Guardian also qualify in this
trivia quiz, and today I have got another candidate: Smashing Pumpkins (how
could I forget?). The line-up is still the original one, and they have done four
full CDs (the new one is, in fact, a 2 hour double CD) plus the four track
mini CD 'Lull' from 91.
Now for my trivia question: who can name at least four artists, who have had
posthumous number 1 singles? Put those thinking caps on.
Here's another interesting site to check if you've got Internet access:
This so-called Similarities Engine processes the names of 5 bands and 5 albums
that you like, and then sends you a list of other stuff that you might like to
listen to. Most of the stuff on the list I received I've either already got or
it's by bands that I like, but how the hell Frank Sinatra got in there, I don't
know! Worth 5 minutes of your time.
Several people have been asking about the results of this 'Operation Revolution'
thing from a few weeks back. Did anybody really think that anything would
happen? I guess the MTVers recognized it for what it was and just directed
anything that came in straight to the waste bin. So much for democracy.
So now we know who stood behind the guy who screamed on the 'Live at the
Marquee' CD. Why didn't you strangle the guy? People who shout and yawp while
a band is playing have always been one of my pet hates. I think they should be
taken outside and shot (together, of course, with people who have knitted
toilet-roll covers in the back of their car, people who believe advertisments
about washing powder, people who grind their teeth, people who cut me up on
the motor way, people who eat with their mouths open, people who fart in lifts
immediately before getting out,...).
Time to go: the men with the white coats have come to get me again.
stay safe and happy listening
Neil Gallop

Hi there!
Here's a question for you from Holland! I read your very interesting
information about DT in your mail, which arrived here on 13 November
(Ytsejam 1126). I read some of your questions, and it's always
interesting to read about bands like King's X and....Parallax. I
don't know that band, I'm extremely interested to listen to some
music of this band. Can you arrange something for me? Are there more
bands like King's X and Parallax which have christian oriented
lyrics? Or at least have christian musicians in its band? (Like
Galactic Cowboys) I'm a fanatic DT-fan, I'm a christian, so I listen
to a lot of christian bands. Do you know the band Decision - D from
Holland? Or Dilemma, (from Amsterdam) which has some influences of
DT. I listen to lots of music. All kinds of styles like the band
'Jars of Clay' with acoustic instruments and hip-hop influences, it's
very interesting, you know. Furthermore I mainly listen to symphonic
rock like Queensryche, Shadow Gallery, Atomic Opera and stuff. I love
it! I hope you can help me find more about bands with christian
oriented lyrics, I'm looking forward to your reply,
Are there any serious DT-fans who want to discuss the deeper meanings
of life? What I find very interesting is, that DT has great lyrics to
make you think of: What am I actually doing here? What is the purpose
of life? What will the future bring us? etc. And not just the lyrics!
Their music has a kind of influence that speakes without any lyrics,
GREAT!!

First, for anyone who cares, I'll be going to the Birch Hill show Dec. 29.
Look for the crazy motherfucker with the green afro and fish tank platform
shoes. That's not me, he's a cool guy though. Second, here are some
bands that fit the trivia criteria (if these have been posted before
feel free to BITE ME): Kronos Quartet, the Beasties,
Violent Femmes, Fishbone (okay, so they added a member, big deal). Ones
I'm not sure of: Bad Religion (after they got back together), King
Crimson, the New Kids (whoops, they're not a band!). That's off the top
of my head, someone clarify if these are right/wrong. Rock on with your
funky badass gangsta selves.
You give me energy,
Merritt
P.S. All cultures suck and exist only for the purpose of derision! ;)

Hi there!
I'd like to ask all of you readers if anyone knows anything about the
Queensryche CD-Rom that has been announced a long time ago. Here in
Germany it is quite impossible to get any news about it, so if
anyone could help me, please let me know.
Here we go with a DT-related question: Why was Charlie Dominici never
credited for Metropolis and To live forever (he sang both, I have
bootlegs!)? Sometimes James even announced To live forever as a "new
song". Not quite fair, in my opinion.
That's all for today, bye (B-)
Andreas

Funny you should mention this - about a year ago, I got the flaming
heart tattooed on my right calf. I always wanted something religious-ish
for a tattoo, and when I saw this and found out about its meaning and
all, I went and got it.....there's a few adaptations that are going to be
added (the barbed wire is going around the rest of my calf and all), but
otherwise....
Next for me is an entire back piece of Dali's "The Crucifixion", or
another Dali piece - all I need is the cash now..... :P

To the jammers,
GUYS I GOT THE SILENT MAN CD!!! this is really great.TTT is so much
better than the regular lp version. James does a really nice job with the
vocal backing. The drums are also a little different if ya listen
closely...they sound so ggggggrrrrrrreeaat!!!!(TTT-Tony the Tiger).
Ok here's the real problem. I think that the s-man version of Eve is sooo
much better than the subconcious version. My friend, on the
other hand, thinks that the sub-c version has so much more emotion than
the other and that the guitar take a little of that saddness away. I
totallly disagree. The guitar on s-man bring to the song a greater
quality of emotion. Which makes eve, in my opinion, probably the best
"emotion" song they have. Not to offend some of you avid dreamers. Whats
on your mind?

Sorry I sent that shit to the list. I didn't mean to, but I was listing the
nicknames I use under Cc and I accidentally included the ytsejam.
Please forgive me. I don't know what I do. Please forgive me. I can't
stop loving you.
JUST FUCKIN KIDDING. I don't even like that song. I am sorry about the
stupid totem though.

When I saw Kansas this summer opening for Alan Parsons at a 15000
seat outdoor pavillion, there was probably only about 4000 people there.
Progressive bands need support!!!!!!!
I can't really decide if I like Echolyn's As the World. It is nothing
like DT. I will have to listen to it a bit more. Does everyone know that
the skullike things on the cover are dried out carved apples? Someone in
my office asked if I ever did that as a kid. I guess not....
I was playing Cygnus in out lab and this one programmer goes "Is this Alice
in Chains?". Hello???????
Are there any really good Fates Warning boots out there?
Will AL BALKEWICZ ever send me the tapes he has owed me for 9 months?????
