I was just listening to a bootleg from the Denver show of the
awake tour (courtesy of KAI) and I can say that Derek fits the band like a
glove. Sure, Kevin is more classicaly based, as opposed to Derek's obvious
blues influences. But for the first time, it seems like the band is
having fun. THat blues jam at the end of TTT is the coolest thing I've
heard in a long time. There's also the jam and the new intro to The
Mirror. THis may be too early of a prediction, but I forsee that even if
Derek doesn't write that much, he will have a healthy hand in arranging
the songs. As such, I predict that the new album will be more uplifting
    than Awake. Just a thought.

                            Richie

P.S. THIS WAS NOT MEANT TO START UP THE KEVIN/DEREK DEBATE AGAIN!

                                  TO MIKE PORTNOY:

I am not 100% sure as to what the exact reason is for the significance of
this date. But I am sure that I speak for all of the other jammers here
when I say that we will be thinking of you on this day and holding ACOS, as
we do always but especially today, as a beautiful outcome of an event that
brought forth a very hard time in your life.

Hello everyone. I am currently trying to work out the details for another
YtseConvention in Dec. i need to now several things though.

If some of the members of DT were to attend a convention / question & answer
session / party thing either before or after one of the shows in Dec, how
    many of you would attend?

I am sure this depends on which show it would be since many of you are not
going to all of them. Matthew Sirois <ms014e@uhura.cc.rochester.edu> is
collecting names of people going to the El-Ne-Gee (or what ever its called)
inorder to set up a possible meeting place for that show.

                               ----------BUT----------

I still need EVERYONE to mail me your names and which shows you are
attending and would prefer the YtseCon to be held at.

Thanks I will update you ASAP.

OK, so yesterday nite, Dan Tshin (fellow jammer), Markus (the drummer),
and I drove to Toronto to see the travelling drum clinic Mike is a part
of. Along with Mike, there were some other amazing drummers, ie: Steve
Smith (Journey), 2 guys from Tower of Power, and Dom F(something
rather). I thought after I heard Dom start off the clinic, that if Mike
was half as good, I'd be very impressed! Needless to say, he was.

Ok, enough of this mellow shit...

Mike was amazing! He played the entire instrumental section to
Metropolis, all of Erotomania, and answered questions about other DT
songs, and was by far the most informative of all the drummers
(explaining polyrhythms, weird time sigs, etc...).

So anyways, after the show, Dan and I leave the auditorium to wait in the
lobby to get some photos and autographs with Mike. We're standing
around, and this guy that we met before the show comes up to us and says,
'I think James is here'. So we go back into the auditorium, and there he
is up on stage with the techs. He comes down, signs some autographs,
shoots the shit for a bit (No, they won't be playing any WDADU songs for
the next tour. Yes, they will play Scarred. He expects at _least_ Dan
and I to yell, 'Please don't go!' when they play ACOS in Toronto next
time. He wanted to sing with Ray Alder on 'Life in Still Water' when
they toured together, but his warm-up time conflicted with Fates' set.
He has email, and reads the YtseJams once in awhile. etc...). Anyways,
there's only 3 of us talking to him, and I say, 'The lighting is bad
here, so would it be possible to go back on stage under the lights for
some pictures?' 'No problem, we'd better be quick though'. So I got some
    great photos (needless to say!)

Oh yeah, forgive the length of this... it was just such an amazing time
that I thought I should share it with all of you :)

Then we leave the stage, say bye to James, and go back to the lobby
looking for Mike. He's still there signing stuff, and we get a chance to
get our stuff signed (Dan brought his Subcon, I forgot mine! arrrgh!).
Then we practically do the same thing ('lighting sucks, photos over
there?' 'Sure! You guys aren't going to beat me up and steal my wallet
are you?') I gave Mike some 'Jams (#'s 1117, 1124 and 1125), talked
about Fates for a second (new album in up to 50 minutes at it's current
point. Mike gets a demo copy next week. Andre Corbin in touring with
them in the future, but Jim is doing all the writing for the new one.
The other guys haven't even heard what it's going to sound like yet, so I
guess that means Mike gets his copy the same time the guys in Fates do!
bla bla :) Anyways, the bus is leaving, so everyone's gotta take off, as
    did we.

We walk out into the winter air, get bombarded with big, wet snowflakes
and sloppy roads, and drive back to Waterloo. Thus ending our amazing
    trip to Toronto. (!!!!)

I have added my DT web page (for the DT Song Book) to "Yahoo" and the
"Ultimate Band List" entries for Dream Theater. Are there any other
important places around the web that I should also update?

         And...
During the recent Japan shows, DT did some cover songs, what were all
of these and which ones did James sing on? I need to update the Song
Book and would like to include anything new that I can.

Speaking of which... are there any good copies of any of these shows
available? (The video of the PPV would be nice as well)...

I made a mistake. Yes, ladies, a MALE is admitting a mistake. Mike
Bahr makes high quality recordings of bands doing cover songs. He does NOT
make bootlegs as I previously stated (blond roots and starting to show.
     Don't look).

    Attetion, Ytse-jamming community!:-)

    Weeeeeellllll,
I have decided to stop my Visual Music for a number of reasons.
One, it pisses some people off. Two, that last one, and maybe some of the
others, are fills that have probably been used at more than one time, but if
I make them things that are unique to only one song, then they are too easy.
Three, if it's TOO hard I don't want to make people dizzy from thinking too
hard. IF, by any chance, (yeah right!) I get a hundred E-letters tomorrow,
begging me to keep doing it, I guess Id have to, for the sake of Ytse-dom
    (Jamdom? Ytsejamdom?). Anyways.........................That's all.

I think I posted twice already asking if anyone knew anything about the
results of "Operation: Revolution", but I haven't seen any responses.
I'm sure I'm not the only one on this list who would like to know if we

There was a *LOT* of talk about "Operation: Revolution" on ytsejam at the
time, so I would assume that someone must know something. In particular,
I would like to know if "Anybody Listening?" got played on eMpTyV's little
countdown show or whatever it is. If anyone knows anything about this,
PLEASE respond to me personally or by posting to the jam. Thanks.

you are not the fucking idiot. there is one and ONLY one of those. he knows
    who he is.....

you were at giants stadium saturday? what band/group did you see? i saw st.
francis prep (group 3a gold). i taught them over the summer, and just wanted
to see how they did. i was disappointed b/c they played a great show, but got
only 6th place. however, they did win best percussion. so i was pleased with
    that.

    to zach:
    re: prince

he is one of the best guitarists ever. i dare to say almost as good as jp.
and at least as creative, and by far funkier. i "gett off" on his stuff and
bathe people with "purple rain." however, unlike lisa lisa, i manage not to
get "lost in emorions" when i listen to that music.

a bug music plug!!!! PLEASE!!!! i know i've mentioned them plenty of times on
the jam, but it seems no one knows who i'm talking about. go and listen to
the "screaming headless torsos" asap. they are one of the coolest new bands.
chili peppers (who i actually hate), mixed with some pfunk, with some prince,
a healthy dose of miles davis, and a sick blend of atonality, and a little
touch of hip hop to finish it all up. although it is not prog at all, it's
still brilliant music, and funny as hell. no one should be disappointed. i
want to hear in a few days that domeone checked it out and loved it as well.
otherwise, i will cry, and that is bad.

            Hi All!

This is IMPORTANT: with regard to the WDATU number list. It's not
complete yet, as you all well noted, and I biffed when I wrote it up. I
will be including only paid orders (reservations are _all_ still good, I
promise!) in the list EXCEPT for Stephane and Kaoru's orders as you saw,
since they collect orders _for_ other people, and thus we try to cut out
redundancy in ordering. So if you reserved but haven't sent in the order
yet, DON'T PANIC!! It's still valid. It won't be listed though.

I _did_ mess up on a few orders (quantities, number requets, etc)
and thanks for mailing me on these, I'mm correcting them first chance I get.

I am concerned about the possible shutdown of government services
affecting the postal service as well. If it does, I would implore you all
to still mail your letters normally (such as you can) since the USPS
can't/won't be shut down for _long_ and the backlog will catch up to me
as soon as they get going again if they stop.

To all those who ordered through Kaoru and Stephane, I have
finally mailed those big bulk orders out, so they are on the way OK! :)

            Take it easy everyone...

wagon and says "Damm!" There just happens to be the preacher of the church

"Son, when things like this happen, don't say bad words like that, say God
Bless." "Okay sir, I'll will", the boy replies.
The next day the boy comes upon the same bump and what do you
know...the wheel pops off again. The boy looks at the wheel and in
frustration says,"Damm!". Well the preacher happens to be outside again and
hears the boy swear again. So he goes over and agian tell the boy not to
say bad words when things like that happen, instead say "God Bless".
The next day the same thing occurs and the boy again says "Damm!".
By now the preacher has become fairly angry with the boy...for 3 days now,
he has cussed in front of the church and been reminded not to each time. So
the preacher comes out to the boy and says, "Son, I've told you now 3 times
not to say that word when bad things happen...instead say God Bless! Now do
you have that?" The boy replied, "Yes sir." and was on his way.
The next day the boy approaches the church, goes over the bump in
the sidewalk and what do you know, all 4 four wheels pop off the wagon!!!
The boy looks at the wagon and the wheels for a second and says, "God
Bless!". Then miraculously all 4 wheels jump off the ground and fasten
themselves back to the wagon!!!!! Then boy and the preacher look at each
other and the preacher says, "Damm!".

That's kinda funny but only because LaBrie recovered from it _and_ laughed
himself. My friend, Joel, and I played in a band a few years ago with a
truly horrid singer and drummer. The drummer used to do fills and end on
the and of 1 instead of 1 so I'd have skip over to the new 1 :(. The singer
once jumped to the chorus in the middle of the verse and didn't have a damn
clue what was going on. Luckily I was able to hear him and went with him to
try to save the song. He didn't even know. We spent a half hour explaining
why he shouldn't blow a whistle in the middle of the guitar solo and he
    still didn't get it.

What the hell, I'll jump on the bandwagon:

If I'm just sitting and relaxing, I like a drink I can sip at and enjoy
the taste of. Something fruity like Sex On the Beach or something smooth
a Girl Scout Cookie (tastes just like those thin mints!).

If I'm socializing at a club or a bar, I'll go for a good beer. My
favorite is Molsen Ice, and if they don't have that, I'll go for a
Rolling Rock, or as close as I can get to it.

Aren't your lives so much more enriched now that you know that?

On that pole about bands being together for more than five albums etc, New

How could ELP be right? I believe those initials have stood for
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer AND for Emerson, Lake, and Powell, so
that's the same band with two different line-ups (and if you argue it
was two different bands, you're opening up a lot of ambiguity into
    this trivia quiz).
Also, how do you count solo artists like Tom Petty or Bryan adams.
What about Simon and Garfunkel (not that they are touring these
    days), or the Indigo Girls?

OK, following is the list again.
One thing I came to remember after the last mail should be added. The very
last tune they played before encores was Pull Me Under! I just forgot to
    write it, sorry.

I have obtained all the sound sources in their last tour recorded in
DCCs(digital compact cassette). They are really as good as DAT-recordings.
As I am trading with a few persons, I can only start after finishing
duplicates for them, but if you're interested, please give me your list
    first. Thank you.
