    Attention RQ:
This IS the ytsejoke. If you haven't noticed by reading this. I've been
reading for only two months now and I've come to these conclusions:
The poster known as Erotomania needs a valium.
This list comes out too damn many times a day.
Everyone just keeps rehashing the same old stuff
    and last but not least,
Bafu Vai needs to give it a rest for a while and maybe these things wouldn't
come out every damn ten minutes.

Have a nice day and let the flaming begin!

WARNING: THIS POST IS OVER 100 LINES SHORT.
    Jammers,
Here is the next post on how all the songs on Awake fit into my idea that
the album is a concept album thru and thru. This one is on Mirror. I am
going out of order here, because I am getting some outside help on things
that I do not know for Innocence Faded and some others. Remember, this is
just my opinion and I am not wrong, though you may disagree. Feel free to
respond to me personally or on the jam. Also, be sure to check out EVERON,
and I am still waiting to hear from any classics majors with a degree or
about to get one. So here goes.
First a word from our sponsor: I am still anticipating the arrival of AD
#273. It must be campus mail that moves slower than molases.

Miror is the song where I got the idea from that the album is a concept
album. I was listening one night and heard some samples in the middle of
the song that I never really paid much attention to. Then I listened
carefully to them to find out what is being said.

Mirror is basically a song where our main character is sorting out, for
himself, what is going on (for the 18,000th time). He has to evaluate
himself, hence the title of the song. Also note that Mirror is very heavy
and has lots of dissonance, implying a tense situation. Also, listen to the
keys at Self Control and I spent so long. They are very spooky and
mysterious. Mystery stories are all about trying to figure things out (hint
    hint).

    "Temptation-
Why won't you leave me alone?
     Lurking every corner
     Everywhere I go
     Self Control-
Don't turn your back on me now
     When I need you most."

Here he is asking himself why he is so tempted all the time. He can't get
away from the temptations of the siren. He must rely on himself no to go
over the edge, but cant resist. This shows that he has very weak will power.

    "Constant pressure tests my will
     My will or my wont
My self control escapes from me still..."

Again, the siren and the "devil" side of his conscience (that little cartoon
character on his shoulder) are constantly encouraging him to do what is
wrong, and though he could say no, he won't.

t 1:57 a male voice says, "What am I doing?"

    "Hypocrite-
How could you be so cruel
and expect my faith in return?
     Resistance-
Is not as hard as it seems
     when you close the door."

This is the man trying to figure things out from his wife's perspective. In
other words, she is asking him these questions, even though he is really
asking himself. She is telling him that if he says "see ya" to the siren,
then there will be no problem. How could he be tempted if there is nothing
to be tempted by. Bees don't look for honey in a bowl full of salt.

"I spent so long trusting in you
I trust you forgot (about her trust)
Just when I thought I believed in you..."
t 2:57 female voice says "what are you doing"

This is still from the woman's perspective. Basically she says that she has
loved him for so long (30 years..."says we're in this together"--Scarred)
and then he goes and betrays her.

"It's time for me to deal
     becoming all too
     Living in fear-
Why did you lie and pretend?
This has to come to an end
     I'll never trust you again
It's time you made your amends
Look in the mirror my friend."

Here the woman (still the man talking to himself from her perspective)
decides to take a serious look at things because she is figuring out what is
going on. She has always feared that this would happen (he does not trust
himself). And he has actually made her worst fear (actually his own worst
fear) of betrayal come true. He does not trust himself

Webster's (p44) defines Amend as "to grow or become better by reforming
oneself" So he is telling himself that he needs to become a better person.
He needs to become a G-d fearing man, or one with morals.

    t 3:23 m"I haven't behaved as I should've"
f "Everything you need is around you. The only danger is
    inside you."
m"If only you could control it. But it's not like that. There
    are things you can't control."

"Let's stare the problem right in the eye
It's plagued me from coast to coast"

He is saying that it is time to face reality. Hmm, where have we heard this
before? he can't escape no matter where he goes and how hard he tries.

"Racing the clock to please everyone
All but the one who matters the most"

It is like he goes to work, goes to his siren, rushes home, all in a race
against time. ALSO, he is racing to figure out some sort of solution before
everything collapses on him, which it is doing. He is trying to please
    everyone except himself.

    "Reflections of reality
     Are slowly coming into view"

He is finally begining to realize what is going on. Again.

"How in the hell could you possibly forgive me?
After all the hell I put you through"

He realizes that she could never forgive him for everything that he has done
to her by betraying her. Also, he cant forgive himself for what he has done.

"It's time for me to deal
     Becoming all to real
     living in fear-
     Why'd I betray my friend?
     Lying until the end
     Living life so pretend
It's time to make my amends
     I'll never hurt you again"

This is what he is actually saying to himself when he realizes what he has
done: his mistakes and what needs to be done to repair the situation if that
is possible. However, can he really be believed with such weak will power
    and such ease of betrayal?

t 6:00-6:16 Here it sounds like the guitar is screaming in pain (imitating
what the man would sound like) and then it sounds as if he is yelling at
    himself.
6:36-45 The guitar sounds like it is holding a conversation with itself.

Also throughout these time frames, the guitar has a conversation with the
keys-imitative of the man and woman having a conversation.

So there you have it on Mirror. Lie will be next, and yes that is ther
truth. Anyhow, happy reading. No, I am not sorry for making this a long
post. I think that for once it will be something on the jam that is worth
reading. Unlike, "woohoo. I got AD and my ytse shirt today in the mail.
see you on Dec 29." To the fucking idiot (bafu), what do you think?
    Later on ya'll,
    Yitzik

This guy is right!. Not all KC is to my liking but if you don't own "Beat",
"Three of a Perfect Pair" and "Disipline" you can't pass accurate judgement
on KC. If Bill Bruford was with them (I missed Conan too) I'm sure there
    was something to be had.

I saw Bill Bruford at a drum clinic in Dallas a few years ago and I've never
been so blown away by a drummer in my life. Bill is not a human being, he's
from another planet, catch my drift. He's forgotten more than I know about
drumming and I've done it for 25 years!.

you mean king crimson was on conan?!?!?!? arrggh!!!!! damnit.

the dinosaur song- that had to be "dinosaur". that is such a cool song. sorry
that all those people in the last jam can't dig crimson. sorry, but most of

played in "mr. mister"), are amazing. particularly, our old friends tony

    dt fuckups:
you've probably heard this one, but derek on ltl at the malibu in june,
totally destroyed the break near the end (wfs reprise). james just had this
look on his face like "what the fuck?!?!"another funny story about that show-
there were these guys up in the front by me and they were pushing and shoving
each other for a good spot, and then it just got to the point where it seems
like they're throwinbg fists at each other. meanwhile, it's portnoy's solo
from ciaw, and it gets to that one scene were he gets really soft. he all of
sudden just gets this look on his face like, "calm down...shh shh shh." and
when it seemed like people were looking at him......BOOOOOOM! he hit
something so hard and exploded, i had to laugh. got those guys to stop, at
    least.

just found out that the queensryche cd rom won't be out til january!! and no
one knows what's up with the ronnie scott's video rumor, either.

    oh well.

played a pep band gig with this girl drummer who had some chops!! played "the

I had an interesting experience today that I thought I would relate.

I was at a Camelot music store in the mall here in Morgantown. I was looking around (I eventually bought the first live Rush album), not paying too much attention to my surroundings. As I round a corner of the racks, I hear a familiar sound over the PA. The acoustic intro to ACOS! Sure enuogh, they played the whole damn thing. I was suprised to hear DT played publically here in Mo'town, since we're not exactly on the cutting edge. Anyway, when I went to pay for my CD, I mentioned to the guy begind the counter what a great tune they were playing. He said "Yeah, Dream Theater, pretty good, huh?" Then he asked me if I bought the album yet, and when I told him I had, asked about WDADU. This guy honestly knew what he was talking about!

I was impressed, and thought you guys (and gals) might be too.

This next bit has nothing to do with the quiz, by the way.

It happens. I don't know if the moshers are as serious about DT as we are (they might be, who knows?), but my own opinion is that they're missing one hell of a show. I plan on being right in JM's face at the Malibu, by the way, if there are any moshers on the list. Hit me and it'll be the last thing you do with teeth in your head.

On another note... I went CD shopping today, and wanted to get some King Crimson, but didn't know what to get. Any suggestions?

Name four players whose use of right-hand-hammer-ons (two-handed tapping) on the guitar PRE-date Eddie Van Halen's.

Crimson was on CONAN?! I MISSED IT?! AAARRRHGGHHH!!!!! I get to see them in a few weeks anyway. . . And for all you slaggers out there, just check out THRAK before making any assumptions!! Someone said that the 'slacker' rhythm guitarist needed life; that 'slacker' is Robert Frip, one of the premere experimental prog. guitarists of our time. . . that bass player was Tony Levin (the magic behind the likes of peter Gabriel). . . I really resent those comments, and I am trukly dissapointed that someone on this list would make such an 'immature' commentary on such a kickass band. . . By the way, one of the two drummers was Bill Bruford. . . ever hear of him?

    Hello Jammers,

Get Together before December shows ---------------------------------- Guys/Girls, if I was at all familiar with New Jersey I would personally organize a place to meet before the Old Bridge show for all of the Jammers, but being from Baltimore this is a problem. There is definitely interest in doing so since six or seven more people have just mailed me who are also not from Jersey who are coming into town. This is a plea, would someone PLEASE (look I said please <grin>) work on a meeting before this show. There is tons of interest. If someone hears me and knows of a good place I would be glad to help with e-mailing people or putting info up at my WWW site.

King Crimson ------------ Yes, Crimson makes noise, but I like noise, and it is the best damn noise being made today!!! They are one of my favorite groups, along with Dream Theater. I actually met Mike Portnoy before a King Crimson show in Philly! So there shut up you unbelievers!!! Portnoy likes them... so they must be cool!!

    Later,

Well, I just got back from seeing The Steve Morse Band at Mama Kin (club owned by Aerosmith) in Boston. I've been a fan of the band for a long time, but in all honesty, I was a bit dissappointed. It was *cool*, but nothing was *really* impressive and I wasn't blown away like I thought I would have been. The John Finn Group opened, but I missed them because I had to work tonight. I heard they were *amazing*, though. Damn!

    Jam on!

    Brian

BTW- I'll be at the 12/29 NJ show. Anyone know the number for Ticketmaster in NY? The number I tried just gave me a busy signal every time....

Hey Jammers, I was wondering if any of the Japanese Jammmers could please e-mail me as to what they thought of DT's cover of the classic "Killers" by the immortal Iron Maiden (nah, I'm not being too exagerative am I?). I would die to see this live and I am only praying to the almighty Gods of Prog that DT keeps this track in their Malibu setlist. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE play Killers!!!!!! It would also be nice if they could throw in Rime of the Anc ient Mariner too! (hehe...wait, am I going to see DT or IM??) Anyhow, any info as what parts they played from the song (the awesome intro, solo, chorus...."God help me what have I done?", etc) and what youre impressions were!

***** Also, if you are reading this.....Hi Mike Portnoy!!!!!!! ***** Just want to say a quick thanks to you for stopping to chat with some major DT fans outside of Slipped Disc Records in Valley Stream (incidentally THE BEST record store on the Island!)on that FRIGID day last winter! Thanks for being so cool about it!

uhh..hello from all the way in the confines of the sahara...this is my first post, and i am a huge dt fan. all my friends like dream theatre very much. i just bought this brand new album called images and words, and it is really good, except when they showed the band on tv, the piano player had less hair. does he have testicular cancer?? if anyone is interested, i would be more than happy to make a tape of images and words to any poor souls who do not have it.of course, since it is a rarity, i will have to charge a small fee. thank you, and i hope i will feel welcome on this itsyjam.

probably the same thing that James does during the zillions of instrumental breaks/solos: either 1) skips around stage twirling his hair 2) goes off stage and has a drink w/ the crew, plays a few rounds of cards, trades baseball cards, does his taxes, reads YtseJam printouts brought the nite before, etc. etc.

wait a sec. Derek doesn't have hair, right? well, that rules out #1. hehehe i'm going to bed now
