well, as of right now I have not received any money from the following
people, and for each of them it has been over two weeks that I have
waited, so I have decided to offer them to everyone. The people who have
given up their shirts are (please don't send money):

    de Boer, Wietze
    Skoog, Mike
    O'Connell, Keith
    McMichen, Robert
    Benedict, Ryan
    Mommaerts, Matt
    Hellsten, Lars
    Grayson, Perry
    Issleib, Lars
    Herrera, Victor
    Cook, Chad
    Inverso, Ryan
    Voccia, B.
    Kasper, Andreas

I'm sorry to give them up, but I have about 20 shirts sitting around here
waiting, and I can't wait forever. So, if anyone wants one, this is what
    I have left:

    9 XL
    5 Large
    2 XXL

    First come, first serve! Thanks,

    Obviously. You spelled "divinely" wrong.

What does God need with a spaceship? Please tell me God isn't dead. Hey
God, do you ever think about me? And God's name is smack for some. I know
nothing of God. God, sometimes you just don't come through. Only God would
know the reasons, but I bet he must have had a plan. Follow the God that
failed. Oh God, the man I love is leaving, won't you take him when he
comes to your door? A symbol of God's majesty? Has God made man, or man
made God? ...And it is all for the love of God.

Hey Jammers, what's happenin'? Today, I'm gonna broaden your musical horizon
by introducing New Trolls to you folks! Who is the New Trolls you might
ask... Let me provide you with an answer. New Trolls is an art rock band
from Italy. Their music's been very progressive in nature and very artistic
as far as incorporating all different kinds of music (jazz, rock, classical,
world, etc.). If you have heard of them, you are well on your way to
appreciate the art rock. But, if you have not ever heard of New Trolls, do
absolutely anything to get hold of their music. Their music is absolutely
overwhelmingly great! I mean, you just gotta listen to it. My favorite band
is Dream Theater, but my favorite CD out of my over 500 CD collections is New
Trolls CD from 1971 called Concerto Grosso Per I. Yeah, this was when New
Trolls was experimenting their music with classical baroque style music and
instruments. It's really really awesome! One thing though... I'm not too
sure whether they're still around or not. I've heard a rumor saying that
they're still around. If you ever see any of New Trolls CD, snatch all of
it! I mean, get their music. They're very sophisticated musicians.

My point here is that you should all check out New Trolls' music. It's
    really cool! Gotta go. Bye!

    Hey everybody,

I was looking through GFTPM today and I saw that an ad mentioned
something about Jason Becker's new album being out already in Japan?
Maybe somebody in Japan could confirm this for us, but if it's out there
already then I think it's time to call the import shop :-) The ad was for
an instrumental music radio show I think and they talked about previewing
the album and playing interviews done with Marty Friedman and others on
the album. Hopefully somebody out there will know and be able to help...

    Thanks,
    Brian

Just to clear up any and all questions about Telsa, once the new
issue of Metal Edge hits the stands you will find that Tommy is now
permantly out of the band. He was in rehab, got out, rejoined the band,
fell off the wagon, and was permantly fired. Apparently he and Brian in
    particular weren't getting along.
As for moshing, I think it's stupid. However, I'm not one to
limit the way people express themselves. If someone's concert experience
is enriched by being beaten into a bloody pulp by a significant amount of
people, fine. But don't detract from a non-mosher's experience either.
Here's an example: over the summmer I went to see Skid Row at the Palace
in LA. The show was sold out. The opening band, Souls At Zero, were a
punk/industrial band which I thought sucked. The crowd seemed to like it
though. There was a significant amount of moshing going on, but I wasn't
really worried. After their set, I managed to wiggle my way up to what
would probably be considered third row. I was so psyched to be so close
to one of my favorite bands. The lights go down, Skid Row takes the stage
and the crowd exploded. People, pushing, hitting, kicking, jumping all
over the place. In about a thirty-second period, I went from 3rd row to
like 38th row. It got so bad that I literally could not see the band for
the first three songs. I was being dragged down to the ground. And I paid
for this? Finally, I found a non-moshing spot to the side of the stage,
but I still found myself watching behind me to make sure someone didn't
jump on top of me. I got kicked in the balls, elbowed in the adam's apple
and tackled by a 60 year-old grandmother with a purple mohawk and tatoos
on her scalp (I kid you not). All I wanted to do was enjoy the show.
    Moshing blows.

                                            Richie

P.S. I'm leaving for a 10-day vacation. Can't wait to get back to find 6
    billion jams in my inbox.

However, hopefully ytseCD or ytsecap will agree to accept

Otherwise ytseus will have to pay more postage to send

As far as feeling the music of Dream Theater, the songs that really get me
are Under a Glass Moon, simply because of the beauty of the melody, and then
The Mirror, Lie, Space-Dye Vest, and the first part of Scarred. 6:00 gets me
occasionally, but not too often. I know I always crank up The Mirror and Lie,
because those songs to me represent everything that's right about music.
As far as the thread I started about the alternateen bands, I have given all
of these bands an honest listen, I would even say I own some of their CD's, it's
just that I can't recognize the difference between the bands. We had a
discussion in my dorm here at Crapital University about these bands, and
we did reach the consensus that there is a difference between Toad and the Gin
Blossoms, but I'm still not sure about DBS. I have to listen to the CD again.
As far as Pearl Chair goes, and Alice in Pilots, I fail to see the differences,
except maybe in the names of the band members, and even then, they could be
working under aliases. I don't know. My Dad would love to be in this
discussion though, because he is adamant that all of these bands sound the same.
He can spew for hours and hours about how my generation's music is pure crap, w
while the Doors were absolute Gods (sorry, but the line "I woke up this morning
and I got myself a beer" is not lyrical genius to me), and the Iron Butterfly is
the only grunge band that ever was. I wish he could get in on this. He is so
convinced that his music is the only music that there ever was, is and will be.
Which to me, is a joke because he's missing so much, like Dream Theater. He
hates James' singing, but loves Robert Plant, aren't there a lot of similarities
in their singing styles? Just what I can pick out anyway.

I don't know anything about guitarists, but I know Stanley Jordan is
awesome! Most of what he plays is two hand tapping, but he probably didn't
come before Eddie Van Halen, so forget I said anything.

This morning I pulled up into the school parking lot, and ejected my DT
tape before the next song began. In the short 20 seconds I listened to
the radio, I heard the crunching of none other than the intro to The
Mirror. It was used as a little intro to Howard Stern coming back from
the commercials. Weird how something like that can get me excited.

At first I got really excited and wondered if maybe they were playing the
whole thing, but geez, then Howard started talking. =)

I'd much rather pay attention to the band, because I'm interested in the
music they're playing. Why would I want to jump around to the music the
bands playing, and not even look at them? I can do that at home.

I'd feel much better if my audience was actually PAYING ATTENTION to me then
much MORE mindlessly running around banging into each other. If you wanna
run around and injure yourself then go to a Pantera concert. I can see
you're not a performer otherwise you'd probably understand me more.

            Hello everybody!

Just to repeat with the mini-Mike Bahr-FAQ: 1. I am not Mike
Portnoy, but it'd sure be cool if I was! 2. I have an overflowing mailbox
so don't panic if you don't get a response right away if you mail me. 3.
WDATU is in pre-ordering and AD is sold out. Cygnus is available.

Ytsejam HATS! What a cool idea! I know I always wear a hat... why
go to all the trouble of keeping your hair kept just so. Especially
because I refuse to petrify and enbalm it with hair spray. I'm buying a
hat or two, I hope you all will as well.

Hello Bafu Vai! No real reason for me to mention him, just doing
it to annoy that guy who says Bafu shows up in every 'Jam...

As someone said, if all 1200 of us posted regularly, there would
be twenty Jams a day. What I have to wonder is... why _don't_ more of us
post? After all, if there's one thing we like here on the JAm, it's to
hear weird opinions and verbally fence against them with our own.If
you're a lurker, get off your ass and post!

I have an idea for a poll, I think we'll try.

POLL: THE BEST OF THE LONGEST

This is a "fun" poll I'm conducting to see what people mark as their
favourite songs amongst those that are of epic length. Please mail entries
to _me_ at durnik@indirect.com and NOT to the Jam. I'll post the results
    after a week.

Entries should list your five favourite nominees, in order. The one
you rank #1 is going to get 5 points, the #2 will get 4, down to #5 which
will get a whopping _point_. I'll compile the totals in a week.

Songs qualify by being non-instrumental works of 9:00 or more. If
a song is subdivided like A Mind Beside Itself, I did _not_ include it. Of
course, only relevant nominees were included (nothing by Garth Brooks.) The
Points: total will be filled in when the votes are in, and re-posted. Oh yes,
covers don't count either, nor do medleys/song combinations.

Here are the nominees (those songs that qualify):

    Song Performer Album Points
    ============================================================================

Xanadu Rush A Farewell to Kings

If I made a misteak, let me know. :)

AND... the secondary vote: greatest CONCEPT ALBUMS. All other
rules and such are the same. To qualify as a concept album, there had to
be an obvious, coherent theme throughout. For this category, write-in
votes are OK, but I reserve the right to say "sorry, that's not a concept
album, or at least, not ENOUGH of one."

Let's see what you all think!!

Other than that, nothing big to say today, it's been a slow week
of shipping ADs and preparing WDATU. I've now seen the final packaging
and heard the final master, and I think I can confidently say you all
will be liking this disc... at least somewhat. :) (gotta be humble about
it, since nobody likes a braggart.)

Yes. From what I understand, there's at least one boxed set and at least
    one single-CD "best of" thingie. I own _The Best of E L & P_. It's got
    some good stuff on it.
