Well, with all of the recent opportunities that Ytsejammers have had to talk
with MP, has somebody asked that he confirm/deny the rumor that they will be
putting a Christmas present under our trees in the form of a Ronnie Scotts
    video ??

Sure, there's lots of stuff I'd like to reply to, but I just thought I'd
address Arrogance #14 first. And no, that's not a track from a Joe
    Satriani album.

Try e-mailing RQ if you wish to get ONLY his attention, because now you've
gone and caused me to reply. I've been reading for only a year now, and
I've come to a few conclusions, too. But you probably don't want to hear
    them.

    > The poster known as Erotomania needs a valium.

What Erotomania really needs is a little time, love, and tenderness. He
    doesn't need a valium, he's just misunderstood.

    > This list comes out too damn many times a day.

I'm reminded that this fact is not going to change too damn many times a
    day.

    > Everyone just keeps rehashing the same old stuff

Really? You mean people say stuff like "Everyone just keeps rehashing the
same old stuff" a thousand times in a row? Yeah, I've noticed. Neat how
these people aren't aware of the hordes of others who share their
opinions. Maybe you guys could start a mailing list.

    > and last but not least,
    > Bafu Vai needs to give it a rest for a while and maybe these things
    > wouldn't come out every damn ten minutes.

In some cases I would take this seriously, but the content of your
statement instructs me that you haven't read the last few 'jams, because I
haven't posted in days, and the last eight or nine 'jams don't have a
single word from me. No, that other "Vai" person was not me, and no, I'm
not Ben Laussade, and no, I'm not Mike Portnoy or Mike Bahr. I don't know
why my name keeps appearing in every single 'jam, maybe there are actually
fans out there, but still, I can't really control that and the fact that
someone mentions me doesn't mean that I'm posting. It just means that
    someone is mentioning me.

Next time, just ask for my opinion. I'll gladly give it to you.

"Mr. Bafu Vai, would you rather I complain about your non-existant posts,
or should I go out on a limb and post something myself along the lines of
actual writing or something with an ounce of creativity?"

To which I'll happily reply, "Look, if it weren't for all the creative
writers, maybe these 'jams wouldn't come out every damn ten minutes.
Creativity sucks. PLEASE keep your pointless complaints coming. Maybe
it'll slow this shit down for a change. Nevermind the fact that if all
1200 people on this list started posting every day, there actually WOULD
be a 'jam every damn ten minutes."

Hi! I'm a rather new subscriber and felt like posting my first message.
First, I would like anyone with information on this "Acoustic Dreams"
everyone has been talking about to e-mail some info on how to get it,
preferably on CD, but a GOOD dub will do.
Also, I've got my hands on a great little vid fro Japan. It's called "Dream
Theater-Awake In Japan '95", and the sound and picture are EXCELLENT! It was
taped off of a Japanese TV program called "Music Garden" on a channel (?)
called WOWOW. It has backstage footage of the band before the show receiving
the platinum awards for Awake, and the complete show, including the audience
singing "Happy Birthday" to John Myung. For more info, please e-mail me.
Another thing-did you read what was written about the cover tunes on ACOS in
Request magazine? They said there was "an air of pointlessness hanging over
the whole thing" and that "nostalgia is least effective when it sounds so
passionless". These people don't know what they're talking about! If you want
to send a thought or two on this, send it to LetrToEdit@aol.com.
One more thing-How can I get any kinds of DT posters, stickers, or
    (especially) pictures I can download?

Responding to the thread about which songs I wish DT would do covers
    of:
Of agree with Ben Laussade - I would love to see a good rock
group do classical tunes on rock instruments.

In particular, I'd like to hear Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio
Espagnol" Op. 34 (although, they should give it a cooler name)
    Or,
      Wagner's "Ride of the Valkeryie's".

I've been on this list for QUITE some time now and I suddenly had a
realization. ELP stands for Emerson, Lake and Palmer. This amazes me that I
hadn't "gotten" this for THAT long! For some reason I wa thinking there was an
actual band called ELP. And it's even more funny because I heard an ELP song
on the radio and I was thinking "This really kicks ASS! I should check these
guys out!" Note: Kicks ASS does NOT mean that they are heavy. On the
contrary. They kicked ass like the middle of Metropolis kicks ass.

Any suggestions on what album to get from ELP? Do they have an anthology?

Hey hey hey folks, get easy on King Crimson. I mean, I don't understand how
one can appreciate (notice I didn't say just words like 'enjoy' or 'like')
Dream Theater and not appreciate King Crimson. To my opinion, if there were
no King Crimson, there would not have been Dream Theater, no Fates Warning,
no, Crimson Glory, no E.L.P., no Yes, none of those great progressive rock
bands. I mean, King Crimson was the father of this great progressive music.
They're always looking for different ways to take the rock music to more
artistic realm. They constantly challenge the listeners with their creative
    style both musically and technically.

Since someone mentioned the question regarding 2 drummer business with King
Crimson, let me give you a little insight I obtained from an article in a
Roland Users' Magazine. Fripp decided to have 2 drummers because he came up
with this idea dealing with polyrhythm. When there are 2 great drummers who
can play independent rhythms you can come up with some great polyrhythmic
ideas. Just look back in the music history. Guys like Charles Ives wrote
pieces for a set of multiple orchestras! Yeah, it does take hell of a
genious to come up with something that complicated to work out that well. I
mean, the important thing is that even if you don't like what King Crimson
was doing in Conan O'Brian show, you can still appreciate their creative
    carefully crafted art.

Man! I wish I saw that on T.V.! I bet I would've loved it! After all, you
    know, it's King Crimson!

Rock on, all ye true rockers!

    Neil,
            I need some clarification here...

    >Once again no DT content, but another of these trivia questions to close with
    >for today: what is the best-selling record of all times (not as easy as you
    >may think).

Is that number of albums, or money earned by album sales?
If it is the first (number of albums), then that's easy:
Pink Floyd's _Dark Side Of The Moon_
As for biggest gross...hmmm...not sure. Hootie? :) Wait...Boyz II
    Men. "Yeah, that's it...definitely Boyz II Men...definitely...yeah..."

    BOY AM I PISSED!

MIKE PORTNOY did a clinic at Earl Haig H.S. in North York?!? WHY didn't anyone mention this before! I live no more than a 15-20 minute drive from that school (in fact, my dad used to teach there)... I would've killed to be able to meet Mike & James. I have never had the chance to see DT play live before either, and that makes it that much worse ... :(

I always thought the chances of them doing anything in Toronto any time soon was pretty much next to noghitn. I also thought news like this got spread
all over the Jam, and quickly. I thought this is one of the things the 'jam
was all about, spreading news like this. Since an event like this was totally unexpected, I'd have thought it would be mentioned.

Right now ... I feel extremely let down by any of you who knew about this. Dan ... if you knew about this, why didn't you at least post about it!? I'm
the guy who sat in the row behind you at the QR show without knowing you were
a 'jammer (only to find out later when you mentioned you were the guy with the notepad), it would've been nice to actually talk to you. Sorry if this
sounds like a flame, this has just totally ruined my day now (ruined the
whole month is probably more like it).

FUCK, SHIT, FUCK, SHIT, FUCK, SHIT, FUCK!!!!

If you expect this post to quiet the voice of Christians on the list (namely myself if not others) regarding Christian values, viewpoints or defense of the name of God, Jesus Christ, or His Holy Spirit and His work in our lives, it wont't work. Try pulling some scripture out of the Bible that relates to or supports your statement (BTW it's futile but you can always read the Bible it couldn't hurt), I'll consider not commenting on some of the anti-Christian posts on this list. BTW, I can usually tell a string-puller when I read one, this is borderline.

    Hello all!

Seems that there is mega interest to have YtseCon II.

--RECAP-- I am organizing a YtseConvention II to take place before one of the shows that are being held this Dec. A while back, Babs did this with the pre-release of ACOS. If I remember correctly, (I wasn't there) JMyung, Dereck, and Mike P attended along w/ many jammers. The, at that time, unrealesed ACOS was played as a sneak preview. This version had the infamous "mercy fuck" in it BTW. I hope to do this also. It all depends on the managment and if the band wants to do it. I am fairly opptimistic though since it went over well last time + they say that thier latest album almost came out because us! So come on!!! Anyway, this will be open to only jammers and their friends and will hopefully be a chance for us all to actually *meet* each other and at least some of the band!

    To make this work...

I NEED EVERYONE TO MAIL ***ME*** YOUR NAME, THE SHOWS YOUR ATTENDING, AND WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE IS FOR THE DATE OF THE YTSECON.

Also, I need some help w/ a place to have it. So anyone familiar w/ any of the cities can help out alot by giving me some suggestions and phone #s.

One more thing. Myself and my best freind need places to sleep! Is there anyone who can help me out? We are coming from Jacksonville Fl and need a place for all three shows.

    I will keep you updated!

    1)

HELP PROVIDE LODGING FOR MYSELF AND FRIEND!!!!!!! (read on...)

3 of the 4 guys who were going to go to the DT shows w/ me have cancelled. So in order to be able to afford the trip I REALLY REALLY REALLY need a place to stay while we (Stinky-G and I) are up there. PLEASE feel compassion for us!!!! One night, two nights, all nights???? What ever you can share we will be VERY GREATFULL!!!! Also, were coming up from Jacksonville, Florida so we will need a place to stay about have way up! Dont everyone voluteer at once now!!! 2) >Also are there mosh pits at DT concerts? It would really suck if there >wasn't, I live for the mosh pit.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... I don't know if I will mosh or not???? I usually do and love it, but a DT concert is different. This is a show where I can't play every note that is being played :) I might just want to watch them the whole time!!

    3) I am the one Stinky-G refers to about the Subcon version vs the TTT demo version of Eve issue. I just think that the Eve version is SO much more horrrifyingly sad. Like Ben was doing before w/ the short stories, if I were to right a story about what this song made me think of, it would be about some horrible situation where a mother of three 9 year olds was raped, tortureed and murdered in front of them. It would be told by one of the daughters years later in a reflective manner of sorrow, sadness, greif, horror, regret, and dismay. This version just brings out SO much emotion in me.

The TTT demo version, just doesn't do it as much. I leave the song thinking "what a pretty song" whereas with the othere version, I finish it crying... But I do agree that it is DT's most emotional song. ACOS does this too me also, but not quite as much.

    4) I REALLY REALLY need a good picture or gif or replica of the Majesty logo! You will be happy when I get it so help me out! This is very importasnt and involves you all! ____________________________________________________________________________ "Likely or not its a dream that we keep and at odds with our senses we'll climb. Voices

6:00. The siren kicked him from a dream. He shook the sleep out of his head and got dressed in a hurry. No time to waste. He grabbed the recorder and ran out to the car. Pulling out of the driveway with one hand, he popped the tape in the recorder and cranked up the volume. He wasn't known for being a LOUD sleeptalker. Silence... He fast forward a couple minutes, then let it go. Still nothing. A couple more minutes, and play again. He heard a faint moan. A cold sweat broke out over his body. He rewound a little and listened, hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, making his knuckles white. He didn't notice that, just listened. He heard quiet muttering and turned the volume all the way up. A faint hiss emanated from the cheap car speakers. Happening to glance in the rear view mirror, he saw the black car. It was the same driver as last time. Wearing a suit and tie, dark sunglasses, pitch black greasy hair slicked back as usual. His intense stare returned to the road. He put a little more pressure on the gas pedal and the distance between the two cars increased the slightest bit. "Turn right!" Came the voice, his voice, from the car stereo. That he did, onto a crowded road. The black car followed. The new road went straight for a while and then came to a t-junction. "Left", came the voice. Once again, he followed the instructions that he had given himself while dreaming. He had been recording his sleep for a while now. It started when he was very young and he set the recorder by his bed to see if he snored. Listening to himself sleep, the next day, he heard voices. Actually, one voice, which was his own. Ever since, he had made a habit of it. This street was just straight and empty. He was waiting anxiously for the voice to give him new directions when he saw the other black car pull out on to the street a few hundred feet in front of him. No turn offs, nothing. He had betrayed himself, why he did not know. He stepped out of the car and watched as the two men, one from each car, did the same. They walked toward him at an easy rate, for they knew he wasn't going anywhere. "Like a scream, but sort of silent, living off my nightmares..." came the voice from the tape. Followed by an uneasy laugh. "Everything is immaterial. Reality is immaterial. This is not reality." He was pondering that last line when the man hit him in the head. Blackness. * * * He woke in bed. The bed sat in a rubber room with one barred window. Actually, it couldn't really be called a bed, for all it was was a sheet and a pillow lying on the floor. Just another Sunday morning, he thought. Seeing no reason to stay Awake, and knowing what they wanted, he went to sleep again. When he woke for the third time that day, he was tied to a chair facing a mirror. He smiled, thinking that they should come up with something different for a change. "You know why you're here", came the voice over the speaker. "What, you think I forgot since last week?" was his reply. He knew why he was here. They wanted his dreams. They stole them from him. He and them had something in common. They both wanted to know what they meant. It had been going on for so long, he didn't even know why he still bothered to (try to) evade it. "Can you rid me of my secrets?" He asked. "Spare us. Tell us what you know." "I told you, I don't know any more than you do. Must we go through this every time?" "Now, that," came the disembodied voice," is what I was thinking." Then came the routine shots. They insisted on putting him to sleep, so they could take more of his dreams. * * * He was getting tired of waking up, but he had nothing better to do. He smiled faintly and welcomed the delirium that the shots brought. He glanced at the window. On the sill was a spider. He talked to it, but nothing came out of his mouth. He thought that was hilarous, in his intoxicated state, and let out a silent laugh. So he just thought to the spider. It didn't really matter. "So spider. Looks like we have something in common. We both wish we could speak." He threw his head back with soundless laughter. Conversing with the spider grew tiresome, so he spent the rest of his stupor kneeling on the floor and staring at the wall. As time passed, he slowly became more coherent and knew it was time to end all this. He went to the unlocked door to his room and opened it. Walking down the hall, he waved to the staff. They all waved back, including the men that had taken him here this time. He stepped out of the building onto his front lawn. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the keys to his front door. Once inside, he looked at his wife for a long time. "Love, just don't stare." "Okay," he said. * * *

For the last time in this tale, he woke up in the rubber room. "What a cool dream," he said to no one. He smiled.
