Well, I don't understand how people can pay all that money to see their favourite bands
play live, standing right in front of them, and NOT jump around!

Christ, how would you feel if your audience stood there looking bored out of their minds?
If I were on stage, I'd much rather see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves, jumping
and moshing to my music, instead of staring mindlessly at my hands trying to work out

            Me again ...

Nice job Yitzik. I just think that the female character doesn't
HAVE to be his wife. ( I know, I know, 'Scarred' kinda implies
it). But the song could really be about every friend and relation-
ship. The female character doesn't have to be female either. But
DT songs usually work that way, that's why the lyrics are so
GRREEEAAATTT !!!. Every time I hear James singing 'I'll never
hurt you again' at the end I just get this thingy in my throat
and some moisture in my eyes. So I'm too sentimental, SO WHAT !! =)
            Btw. It's *THE* Mirror, that's important =).

I don't agree to moshers missing something of the music. Man they
(sometimes even we =) LIVE the music. Let it flow through them and
take them away. But you have to be carefull so as not to disturb
the 'listeners' and at DT concert it's pretty impossible =).
I don't think I'd like to have a guys dropping on my head while
staring at JP's magical fingers with pure amazement =) So try
to discern the mood of the growd bfore U start banging some
            heads =)

Oh and Carlo, Maiden's definitely is immortal (no exaggeration
            there =). Uhhh.... I prolly should say was...*sigh* =(

I am ASHAMED !!! That beard thingy I posted awhile ago implied
(yes, a new word for me =P) that JP had the beard first. BUT
MIKE HAD HAD IT FOR AGES BEFORE THAT!! Please, PLEASE forgive me!

Actually, yes and no. They did can Tommy Skeoch (ske-o) because he was way into drugs. He went into rehab while they were looking for a new guitarist to fill his spot. Then, out of the blue, I hear he comes back and "it's all better." So as far as I know, Tommy is still with Tesla- thus still qualifying them for the catagory...

Question 1:What's the error in the subject line and wheresit from? Question 2(the serious one): What is that little piece on the official Tokyo video during the drum solo when the guitar joins in? To put it in ASCII-music:

SHRIIEK-IIEK-IIEK ROAR-o-ROAR RUMBLERUMBLERUMBLE RUMBLERUMBLEetc. i i i | | | short double-bass guitar three low power-chords on guitar (probably frets 0-1-0 or similar) This first made me think of Sepultura, but I couldn't discover it so far. But I'm quite sure I've heard it before. BTW, in Offenbach, Germany in spring this year the guys threw in a bit of Slayer, namely the transition between Postmortem and Raining Blood: three drum hits in intervals, later filled by a guitar motive and finally a furious double-bass sequence. Don't know if they did this elsewhere. Thanks for the replies to my last question.. Bye, Andreas -still no sig, but a very personal smilie (B-)

    Hi all,

There is a lot of stuff being posted to the Jam concerning King Crimson at the moment, and some people are asking 'what should I listen to?'. Well, for what it's worth, here are my favourites

Lizard - 1970, I think. I only have it on vinyl, and it might be difficult to get on CD. Still with Greg Lake, and if my memory serves me right, Jon Anderson sings on one track too. I must listen to this again.

Starless and Bible Black - 1974(?). Wierd but excellent.

    Red - 1974. A real masterpiece.

I know for sure that 'Red' and 'Starless and Bible Black' are available on CD because I've got them.

One of the things I especially like about this early stuff is the very effective use of the mellotron, which still has to be one of my favourite instruments. I remember seeing Rick Wakeman for the first time in '72: he was surrounded by three of the things just to get nine effects! Do any of the keys players on the Jam own and/or play one of the things?? To my mind, they sound much better that a lot of the electronic things that are played today.

Once again no DT content, but another of these trivia questions to close with for today: what is the best-selling record of all times (not as easy as you may think).

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)

A lot of it is crap, but you know, before you just give it another this band is just someone out there to hit Gen-X and then it's over idea, you need to give it another look. Personally, I enjoy DBS, they are a bunch of recent college grads from my area Denton TX, and started way before this little 'pop' hit. The Breakfast at Tiffany's you hear is the second version they have done on CD thanks to the addition of a rhythm guitar player. Believe it or not, I do enjoy Dream Theater very much though. THey have great songs and nothing can compare, but if you can't have variety in your life, you lead a sheltered one at that. --Rob

Much Music finally played DT on the "Power 30" on Monday. Unfortunately, they didn't play Lie or CiaW like a few of us asked. Too bad, because I've never seen them.

Instead, they played PMU. It went out to Cam Wilson from Ottawa and Mike from Missasauga. Are you guys jammers?

We Canadian jammers should keep mailing them to play Lie or CiaW. Let's go!

Anywho....If anyone knows of any DT appearances in Chicago, LEMME KNO!!!! They seem to hold clinics everywhere but the Great Lakes area! I mean, Chi-town is big enough for them to do something like that, no?

On the thread about "feeling" the music: I'm not sure if I really feel the majority of DT's tunes, but there are a select few that I do. Right off the bat I'd say 6:00 and ACOS are songs that I _must_ listen to in their entirety. The moods they create are ones that I must hear played out bigining to end. If I'm about to leave for work and the song isn't over, I'll be a little late for work ("Can't be king of the world if you're a slave to the grind" - 'Bas). These two songs are tone setters for whatever I do afterward. 6:00 is particularly good right before heading to league basketball (of which I am missing this season re: a sprained medial collateral (sp?) ligament! DAMMIT!!!!!!). Peace, out!

Hi, world jammers. How are you doin' though it's getting colder day by day here in Japan?

    > I was wondering if any of the Japanese Jammmers could please e-mail > me as to what they thought of DT's cover of the classic "Killers" by > the immortal Iron Maiden (nah, I'm not being too exagerative am I?).

I like Iron Maiden much and have all of their official full album. It was unpredictable for me that they played IM's song in that show, so when the song began, I felt all my blood climbed up to my head and was let addict to that song. Since it was played as a part of instrumental medley, they played only short portion of Killers, but I thought it fitted into the medley and filled the role of a good connection from The Rover(Led Zeppelin) to Damage Inc.(Metallica). Needless to say about a technical aspect for them. > PLEASE, PLEASE play Killers!!!!!! It would also be nice if they could > throw in Rime of the Ancient Mariner too!

I like it, too. But only problem about playing that song is if they do it, their show will become more and more containing long songs. :)

    > Anyhow, any info as what parts they played from the song.

They played only the awesome intro till the vocal comes in, because the medley was all instrumental.

Second, Primus is a band with the same lineup...Ler was on SUCK ON THIS as well as all the later albums. Also, Phish, Queensryche count, to answer jammers' questions. I wonder if Strunz and Farah count--those two have remained consistent, but their studio and guest musicians wildly fluctuate.

Third, here's a lyric quiz. Identify:

"I see children with butterflies trapped inside jars Just girls and boys with real life toys I want to teach them to set them free And if it comes back it was meant to be"

    Hi!

I can't believe that no one mentioned Queen yet, 20 years without one line-up change. Did I miss something?

I noticed I never really introduced myself. I'm 31 and male and live in Belgium.

I work freelance as a writer/journalist for metal/rock magazines and computer magazines. I interviewed hundreds of fameous artists, even Dream Theater...

I also have my own business, an agency bringing over american bands and set up a tour for them mainly in Holland, Belgium and Germany and when possible in other European countries. The bands and tours I did recently were: Michael Lee Firkins, Mothers Finest, Dick Dale, The Brandos, Motorhead, Threshold, Conception,... The first tours planned for Spring are Michael Lee Firkins, Tony McAlpine, Tamas, Shadow Gallery, Reign, Crown Of Thorns, Phantom Blue,...

I also shop for bands trying to get them a deal. I just finished a great deal for a band. Before I was doing promotion work for several recording companies.

When you ask me I always want to tell more about all this. My fave songs are Learning To Live and Scarred.

    > Christ, how would you feel if your audience stood there looking bored out of their minds?

Ummm, just because you don't mosh, doesn't mean that you have to look bored. Swaying, singing, smiling, etc all show interest too. I personally think that moshing detracts from the show (especially groups like DT). And I've heard what some people on here have said (a long time ago when we had this discussion before -- I'm an oldtimer, just don't post much :) about people who don't want to mosh should stand in the back. Now how does THAT make any sense? People who want to SEE the show stand far away, people who just like smashing into other people and not watch the band, stand close.. That's pretty pointless. I've got to say though that the show I went to in Minneapolis was GREAT. People were NOT bored, everyone was really into the show, but they weren't moshing or disrupting anything. And another reason not to mosh: Did Labrie get pissed off at one show and just walk off because people were moshing? So if the band doesn't like it, more reason not to do it. Chris

    Hey guys!

I was in a nearby Dick's Sporting Goods store(large chain of sports stores) and they were playing a video of extreme skiing. A familiar sound caught my attention, and, sure enough, the background music was "Pull Me Under" playing over and over again!! Cool!! Just thought I'd let you all know.

    Hello there.

Allow me to introduce myself, if you don't know me already. My name is Matt Sirois. I'm trying to coordinate somekind of get together for everyone going to the Dec 27 show in CT at the El-N-Gee.

Warning: This get-together falls into a grey area of arrangment. What this means is that it could be awesome if enough people respond, but could be a flop if only two guys show support. So far it's looking pretty good.

Of course, that's just cover-my-butt lawyer talk. (Mike who? :)

    Anyway...

So far I've recieved a good number of names, but I'm still looking for EVERYONE going to the El-N-Gee show (and only the El-N-Gee show, someone else can deal with the others). If you're going to the El-N-Gee show, let me know. I'll e-mail you personally (so you won't miss any updates because you only skim the jam instead of readiny it thoroughly like a good little jammer). That's right, personal updates about the show, where everyone is meeting, and how many people are going to be there.

In addition, Trey Allen (tallen@junix.ju.edu) is trying to arrange a Ytsecon, but e-mail him with questions about that.

One more time: if you're going to the show in CT on the 27th, let me know, and I'll keep you up to date about any plans before/during/after the show.

    Thanks!

    Long live the Revolution... -matt

Oh. "beating the shit out of one another." I was thinking more in terms of standing still but banging your head. There are some definite head-bangin-heavy-parts in DT. Of course, sometimes they only last a few seconds before they switch to some 9/15 slow waltz section :|

    Brian,

You suck!! I can't believe I missed this. I didn't even know about it. BTW, have you heard Jon Finn's band? They are amazing. You should pick up Don't Look So Serious. The bassist is truly out of his mind. I studied with him for a while. Right before I quit, he went back to Charlie Banacos.

To answer a question that has been floating around... Does promus qualify for this 5 albums thing?? Yes and No

    1. Larry LaLonde did play guitar on _Suck on this_ 2. All of their comercial releases have the same band members.

but the band members are not the original members of Primus. The band Sausage is actually the original members of Primus (sorry I do not have the names infront of me). but, they never realsed an album under the name of Primus and did not realease under the name of sausage until about 2 years ago. All for now..... back to the jam
