Uh, that would be me I suppose... and yes I will be updating the Song

is U2's "Bad". I have this one done and just need to update the Song

Whoa this is cool!! Someone in the last Jam said that Mike Portnoy had
been wearing an A Change of Seasons t-shirt at a drum clinic.
I would guess these would be sold at the upcoming X-mas shows. Hopefully
I can pick one up at the NEw Jersey show. What did it look like - just
the album cover? I hope they will still have the hats from the Awake
tour cause I really want one of those.

    Random thoughts...

Ivanhoe is really good. I've been digging them lately.

Whats up with echolyn? Touring or anything?

I wish the remaining Beatles and their fans would curl up and die.

Keyboads and distortion pedals making and interesting combination.

Howard Stern should bring Billy West back.

I should watch X-files more often.

Raising Arizona is the best movie ever.

This job would be great if it wasn't for the f*&$ing customers.

Balls and chunk is where its at.

The Dolphins better kick ass the rest of the season.

Mike Backof and myself have a secret project coming to the jam soon!

    Attention Dream Theater fans:

The Digital Man would have liked to include a brief review of "Acoustic Dreams" here, but he has been utterly unable to speak, much less type, ever since hearing the first few notes of "Another Day." He has managed to mutter something incomprehensible every now and then, which bears resemblance to a couple of dead northern-African languages, but not enough so to translate into English, or even Latin.

Before actually starting play on the CD, however, he read the liner notes, and said, "Hey! Not all Long Islanders drive that poorly! All sweeping generalizations are bad!"

By the way, when asked about the t-shirt he received on Saturday from Jason Giles, DM actually managed to say, "That's cool, too."

Hi all! Time for an update on that BEST OF THE LONGEST poll... I'll have a WDATU/AD update later on...

POLL: THE BEST OF THE LONGEST (corrections added)

This is a "fun" poll I'm conducting to see what people mark as their favourite songs amongst those that are of epic length. Please mail entries to _me_ at durnik@indirect.com and NOT to the Jam. I'll post the results after a week.

Note that I am scoring ALL write-ins and added them to the list, EXCEPT a few albums that were clearly not concept, or long instrumentals that do not qualify, or, finally, long songs that just plain ain't epic.

And PLEASE do not re-vote or ask for a vote change. There are so many respondents so far (over 200) that the minor data won't change a ranking... it's going to get voted for again and again.

Entries should list your five favourite nominees, in order. The one you rank #1 is going to get 5 points, the #2 will get 4, down to #5 which will get a whopping _point_. I'll compile the totals in a week.

Songs qualify by being non-instrumental works of 9:00 or more. If a song is subdivided like A Mind Beside Itself, I did _not_ include it. Of course, only relevant nominees were included (nothing by Garth Brooks.) The Points: total will be filled in when the votes are in, and re-posted. Oh yes, covers don't count either, nor do medleys/song combinations.

Here are the nominees (those songs that qualify):

Song Performer Album Points ============================================================================ 2112 Rush 2112 A Change of Seasons Dream Theater A Change of Seasons Achilles: Agony and Ecstasy Manowar The Triumph of Steel Achilles Last Stand Led Zeppelin Presence ..And Justice For All Metallica ...And Justice For All Apercu/Death of Mother Nature Kansas ? If I made a misteak, let me know. :)

AND... the secondary vote: greatest CONCEPT ALBUMS. All other rules and such are the same. To qualify as a concept album, there had to be an obvious, coherent theme throughout. For this category, write-in votes are OK, but I reserve the right to say "sorry, that's not a concept album, or at least, not ENOUGH of one."

    Hey all!

The response on the hats and drawing has been good! Thank you all. More importantly...someone is going to walk away with a signed poster from Dream Theater! (Or a SUBconscious CD). Several of you had some questions...just for the record:

If you order (for example...3 DT Ytsejam International embrodered hats) you will be entered in the drawing for 3 times. Your chances are greater to win the poster, sub cd, or Tori a. cd).

Everyone who orders a hat or more...also gets a free DT window sticker.(per hat) for example 3 hats= 3 stickers.

I will probably have a picture on the www about 6-7 days after Thanksgiving. I will let you know. Remember..if you are not happy with the hat, I will refund your money. Please also remember to allow 4-6 weeks for the hat(s) to be delivered.

Another thing to keep in mind about the DRAWING for the signed poster etc..etc.. Christmas time is here..there is a DEADLINE for the drawing..the mail runs slower during this time of year.

    Take care all!

Anyone who has heard it knows what I'm talking about... If there is anyone in the NJ area who wants a dub, please e-mail me privately and we`ll discuss it further. Speaking of lesser known Progressive bands, there is one here in Boston, Seasons End. The comparison to Marillion ( album SEASONS END) stops with the name. Kind of Gabriel-era Genesis, early 80's Rush, and Going Fot the One-era YES. VERY cool stuff if you like 90's Prog. They have a tape entitled "Circle the Sun" based on the seasons of the year, it's instrumental, but the have been working with a vocalist for about 4 months now, and if you get a chance, their Email mailing list address is :

    Gsentry@aol.com

I saw their first live show with their new singer and if you hear about them playing in the greater Boston area check it out. they almost always play with at least one other Prog band on the bill

    For the first time...

    > "For the first time in a long time everything was right in > my world. Then I woke up."

It's from The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun. Isn't it in the FAQ? I think it's from a documentary on prisons. Something a prisoner said. But you probably heard it in TOWHTSTS (is that an abbreviation or what?) from WDADU.

There's a smidgen of a possibility that I'm wrong. If so, please email me. The tape is in my car and it's cold and wet out :(.

    -------------------------------------------------- Ytse IRC

    > Everyone get on the IRC around 7-9pm next Sunday

You are joking right? Maybe this is Pacific time. Not that I'm a TV freak but those are the best two hours on television. 7:00 - 8:00 is Space:Above and Beyond (one of the best sci-fi shows on TV right now) and tape ST:Voyager if missed it on Monday. 8:00 is Babylon 5 (which suddenly got way better - it was getting quite boring for a while) and you tape The Simpson which you watch at 9:00. Monday and Wednesday nights I have school and Thursday 9-11 I have an AOL chat. So Tuesday nights are good for me :).

    -------------------------------------------------- WDADU

    > Not much else to say today. Listen to WDADU if you haven't > lately. That album is so interestingly written. If you can > get past Charlie's vocals, and they aren't all that bad > really, the songs themselves are deep and complex with a > taste that can't be beat. :)

Damn straight. I've been listening to it a ton lately. Light Fuse... is still a great tune as well as The Ones ... the Sun. Of course, our namesake, Ytsejam is terrific. It's a great album and I like Charlies vocals (maybe it's because he doesn't go out of my range so I can always sing along :\).

    -------------------------------------------------- Portnoy Clinics

Does anyone know if Portnoy is going to do a clinic within one hour of Worcester MA (which is 1 hour west of Boston). I would kill to see him do a clinic. Not only is the drummer of one of my fav bands, he's my favorite drummer to listen to and he's a big influence. I'm working on a song right now that evolved simply from dividing 4/4 into 3+3+2 because someone mentioned that Portnoy said that once. It would be so great to meet him and see him do a clinic.

I repeat! If you aren't on the following list and will still be attending the YtseCon, mail me and let me know.

------------Malibu Night Club - Lido Beach, NY - Thur, Dec 28 + Tymoteusz Altman <altman@sfu.ca> bast@babbage.csee.usf.edu Marc Contrady <constabl@postoffice.ptd.net> Freind Freind + "Patrick H. Davis" <75463.2253@compuserve.com> brother The Digital Man <cmerlo@moose.uvm.edu> augie@unix.asb.com (augie) Rachel Goldenberg <wisha@li.net> Brian Cox Bigman <martinah@csd.uwm.edu> Friend maybe another ross_s@jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu + amarshal@physics.Trinity.EDU (Adam H. Marshall) Andrew Keegan <akeegan@liii.com> hiw100@psu.edu (Cornholio) Friend Friend Friend Friend shyboy@microserve.net freind friend friend friend freel@iowa.physics.uiowa.edu Friend

Then the # of attendants can be given to DTs managment to show that this isn't just some unorganized party.

----COVERING THE COSTS------ We will also have to have some kind of donations or entry fee or something to raise money for this. I was considering having this in a meeting room in a hotel near the club. This can run from $100-???? ...way up there depending on the # of people and size of room. Also we need some kind of food/refreshments and I would like to get some shirts made saying something about YtseCon II w/ the Majesty logo on it to give to everyone who comes. So I am thinking that maybe $5 - $15 per person would cover everything. I will get back to you all on the exact price and all that, but I would really prefer that the money be sent prior to the show so I'm not diging so far in my empty pocket to front the cash!!!

------WAIT FOR A FURTHER UPDATE!------- If you have any ideas about the meeting place or anything else for that mater, let me know.

    Thank you for your support!!!!

Quiz: You will need The Beatles Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album for this ! Listen to the start of ' Within You, Without You' and - how does it relate to Dream Theater ?? Patricia

    hi jammers!

#1: I'd like to say thanx to Patricia for her extensive guide to London, I've tried to reach you via email but my mails bounce. Anyway, lots of thanks!

"2: The best selling record of all time IS White Christmas by Bing Crosby.

#3: Moshing is fun!!! If you mosh just right (not too heavily), moshing will greatly enhance your concert experience. Even for DT shows, if you don't like moshing you can always stand right upfront (you'll have to get there early) or a little bit back or at the sides.

#4: How's it going with the instructional videos? Petrucci's should've been out for like three months or so, what happened??? And will there be Myung and Portnoy videos?

#5: Thanks to Jason Giles for the fabulous shirt. Very classy, and the glowing stuff just rules! I happened to wear just that one at an alterna-kinda-concert-party last friday and everyone hated it. YESSSS!!!!

    ----

this one is for SONY PLAYSTATION owners:

One really cool feature bout the Namco-games (at least RidgeRacer, and I think Tekken) is that you can open the cd-tray while playing and hence get rid of the extremely crappy eurodisco/techno-yawn-yawn-muzak. Step 2 is to insert your fave audio-CD and have that as a soundtrack for the game. I tried with ACOS, and you know:

RidgeRacer with Love Lies Bleeding just kicks every other home system game's ass and genitalia!!!

    Later...

    New thread:

How many people have YOU converted to DT-dom?

(or better: how many have you successfully converted out of how many you've tried to? percentage? what can we learn from our different techniques?)

    ---

I was the first one I know who heard DT and got into them. Every other friend of mine who's into DT now, has been converted by me (not THAT many, I'm sure there are more successful people out there):

All in all: 15 (8 out of those have been to DT shows and could be considered DT-heads)

Usually I get all euphoric while talkin bout DT which will interest people. Then I feed them with cassettes with DT's best stuff, each suited for the actual persons preferences. Then I discuss back and forth and by then, they're usually hooked! ;-)

All is forgiven. I will stamp the cheque(check) with my DT logo stamp and keep it forever as a reminder (a constant reminder) of our international financial transaction and ytse friendship.
