Well, in addition to my keyboarding abilities, I can sing, too. Some musicians who play an instrument and can sing may not mention their vocal abilities in addition to their musical ones. Guitarists can also sing. Bass people can also sing. Hell, some drummers can sing too, and I give you guys a lot of credit because drumming and singing at the same time is a bitch, I'm sure. this was posted on the last ytsejam. And I have to disagree with your statement somewhat. I play guitar, but I can't sing for the life of me. Especially while playing guitar. David Olson

I had the displeasure of witnessing this band (Harpo) open for Kansas a few years back in State College, PA. All I can remember about them is their hair and the cheesy metal they performed. The lead singer was a cross between Axel Rose and Brian Kanthinkofhisname (from ACDC). There was no inkling of any progressiveness to their music. None. I remember wanting to pull the plug on those guys in order to get Kansas, the *REAL* show, on the road.

A friend of mine in college from Hanover, PA had talked about Harpo a lot before I saw them open for Kansas. Needless to say, I didn't particuliarly take his musical advice again.

This was over 2 years ago. Maybe they have changed. If so, maybe they are riding the wave of progressive popularity that is going around? I don't know. Maybe they have changed. I just wanted to warn other Jammers that when I saw them they were not the least bit progressive.

<lurker mode off> hey all..... to follow up on the "how many converts" thread, i can say that i have at least sparked an interest in DT in 6 people.....wonderful thing about working third shift at a gas station. i bring the CD player and jam all night and if someone happens to hear it....cool. a lot of people that come in like it, and some actually recognize who it is....one guy even recognized _The Killing Hand_ from LATM and commented that the singer didn't sound the same as on the 1st album.......

anyway, enough about my job.....does anyone out there happen to have any bass tab for _any_ DT songs? are they hiding in drkhoe's archives and i'm just too blind to see them? do any such files exist, or do you think that JM jealously guards his music and won't let anyone touch it for fear they might try to play it and butcher it? if anyone has any bass tab, e-mail me privately please.....

    BTW---nice try Ben ;)

My license plates are due for renewal soon and i was thinking about getting personalized plates that say "ytsejam". i doubt anyone in Indiana has that on their plates.....

My, this has turned into quite the long post for me....i suppose i should feel ashamed.......

Jason Hartman is not too bright. Were it not for the Beatles, DT would probably not be here, or they would sound very different. DT has covered "Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight," and "The End." JP used the melody from "Within You Without You" during his solo from Live In Tokyo. Mike Portnoy nearly came from walking across Abbey Road. I just stood outside in freezing temperatures with 300 other people of all ages waiting for the new CD. Here's a quote or two from the Rolling Stone album guide: "The importance of the Beatles cannot be overstated. . . . Theirs is the final great consensus in popular music--not liking them is as perverse as not liking the sun."

Hello Jammers, Recently Mike Bahr posted to the jam two new polls (epic songs and concept albums) in the list of eligible concept albums he listed Metallica's And Justice for all as a concept album. I personally don't see the conection of the songs on this album. Blackened is about the end of the world......Justice is about corruption in government....one about being brutally injured in war......Dyer's eve about hatred for your parents for sheltering you from "real life".......these are just examples of some of the songs that I can remember from the album.....I don't see how these songs relate to each other. I was just wondering if Mr. Bahr could post his veiws of this album and so we can see where he is coming from. Just thought that that was interesting..... Ryan Inverso

Actually, I've heard it more than I would like to. I do like the music, but I don't enjoy hearing Charlie's voice. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean that I haven't listened to it enough. I think Charlie has a good voice (especially when I listen to O Holy Night on Subcon). On WDADU, he doesn't sound as good as he did on OHN. I don't like the way he sung The Killing Hand or Afterlife. I like The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun a little, but I would rather hear how James sung in on WDATodayU.

I do find it incredible how you claim to know my reason for not liking his singing. (you probably should have put an IMO in there) I might be used to LaBrie singing, but even if I heard Charlie singing first, I would most likely have preferred James's singing to Charlie's.

I don't think there is anything wrong with charlie's singin' either. He is not as bad as some people make him out to be. But to say that Metropolis sounded just as good? Joe, That recording on "Consciously Unreal" was horrible. He sounded off key in some places. How could you possibly say it was just as good? Ben-- Excellent choices this time. The first two quotes were Megadeth. The first was "Captive Honour" and the second was "Countdown to Extinction."

    Hi all (and especially Patricia)

the answer to your question is quite simple: Petrucci plays a bit of the song 'within you, without you' at the start of his hugh solo on the Live in Tokyo video. Do I win a prize? I'm surprised nobody asked this one before.

Just a quick post from me today: my PC has been having sexual intercourse again (i.e. it's f*ck*d), and I'm trying to make it work again (the alternative of reconfiguring the hardware with a lagre axe is becoming more and more tempting by the minute.

*NOTE*: this is not a religious joke. Did you hear about the insomniac, agnostic dyslexic? He used to lay in bed, wondering if there was a dog outside.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)

Weeeeeellll, I had an interesting DT experience tonight.

I can't chat on the weekdays anymore (parents orders), so I didn't have anything to do where I could listen to music. SO, me being the creative genius that I am :) I popped I&W in my walkman and went for a moonlit bike ride around my devolopment. The tape was started on the second side, so Metropolis was on. (BTW, Ross Specter! Lemme know what you thought of Awake!) I rode around for about 20 minutes. Then Learning to Live came on. There's a big hill where I live with sidewalk spiralling up it. It goes about ten feet above the ground, and I rode up tp the top (Okay, I cut across the grass! So SUE me! :) and collapsed (As I lay here drained of strenth :-) Well, I was laying flat on my back and staring at the stars (anything's fun while listening to DT). The Wait For Sleep part started, and right after the drums came in.....a shooting star flew across the sky right above me. I said, aloud, to no one: "Whoa." I thought that was pretty cool, and still do, so I told you.

They're still looking for a bass player.

I don't wish that, just that they'd stick to solo stuff.

    Yeah.

That song is subdivided just like AMBI! (I'd like to vote for it, too!)

I was there, and I know Elliott was there for a little while. Ben, I did see you pop in around 7:55, but then you left after about 30 seconds. We were on #ytsejam. I dunno about you guys.

Hey all, Jason wrote: >>I wish the remaining Beatles and their fans would curl up and die.<<

Isn't M.Portnoy a big Beatles fan? His life long dream (at least in LIT) was to walk across Abbey Road barefoot (a'la Paul)? Is anyone still printing these 'jams out for MP? I don't like the Beatles either, except when other bands do their music. Then they can be pretty good. At least I liked Carry That Weight on Subconscious. And no one can top Steve Martin's rendition of Maxwell's Silver Hammer (there's a trivia question: what album does that particular version of MSH come from?). Anyhow, my point is that I think the Beatles write some great tunes, but I can't stand to hear the band play them themselves.

    :)

    Ben offered this brain teaser:

    >>Here's another:

    "LIIFE???? WHADDYA MEEAN LIFE!!!!! I AIN'T GOT A LIFE!!!!!"<<

Megadeth - Captive Honour - (my favorite song from Countdown...)("Boy, your soul better belong to Jesus, becuase your ass belongs to me! Ha ha ha!) I don't know the other one though.

I'll stick to the easy one: I'm guessing Captive Honour from Megadeth partha
