    WEll,

    I haven't been reading the list here for about two to three weeks now;
just decided not to read them.

I have, however, read a couple jams this last week and the most recent one.
I must say I have never flown through a jam so fast before, even when there
wasn't anything to read. If no one understood that this is what I meant:
The jam has gone to complete shit! This is complete hell! Over the time
of three weeks the jam has deteriorated from inane things to just mindless
dribble! Now we are talking about God and moshing. WHAT THE FUCK! Damn,
this is complete hell! Do you people see that this is the downfall of the
ytsejam? I thought it was bad earlier; it got even worse--much worse! I
feel like I should be really mad or something, but I really can't express
my feelings right now. I mean the last ytsejam (I forget the number)
there was one guy who printed something like five different post right in
a row about moshing! Christ man (my God comment), write what you want in
    one fucking post. Condense man!

I also noticed that most of the jam now consists of snips of older posts.
People are snipping a whole fucking post of someone's then filling their
comment in, a comment which consists of three to ten words. What the
hell? You are sending about 700 lines of repost and about 250 lines of
original stuff total. Damn, is this necessary? I really fucking doubt it.

Dr. Mosh, it has been quiet a while since I have seen a post from you, and
I must agree with what you said, the topics here have become shit. I
mean, I can't even express just how lame all of the post have gotten. It
is like a daily account of personal stories, or about God, or about
moshing (am I making myself clear). People--that is not Dream Theater!
Talk about DT and God and how God influenced music of DT. At least that
would contain some DT stuff! IF you want to defend god go to God-jam or
to the fucking Trinity network on cable!

I just can't help but laugh at the condition the list is in. Last year it
kicked ass; this year it just really sucks! It is fucking painful! Does
anyone share my hostility? AM I alone--I don't' care.

I am sure that some are going to say something in anger against me. Just
so you know, I don't' care! Go ahead flame me, swear a mile long on a
post--I don't give a damn! Curse me out! It would just go right along with
all of the other shit that is posted! I have all of this stuff that I want
to say here, but I can't find the words to cover my anger right now.
Christ, is this the Rush list that I have heard so much about--I mean is
this how bad the Rush list got? This lits is garbage! I wish the list was
like it used to be in its golden day! The list used to kick ass; now it just
fucking sucks! I wish I wasn't in a computer lab because I really would
like to vent my frustrations right now--verbally!

    In closing--the list now sucks!

    Ryan

    >"Bass solo, take 1"

This is said before Cliff Burton's Bass solo, known to some as Anestesia.

    >"1, 2...1,2,3,4,5"

This is the intro to Leper Messiah, off the album Master of Puppets.
Lars calls this out as he hits the high hat.

Dunno. You got me on this one.

Somebody's a big Metalica fan. The "Whan a man lies..." is from the
album "And justice for all", during the instrumental at the end of the
    second side.

Now here's one for you: "YA CAN'T KILL ROCK AND ROOOOOOLLLLLL!!!"

I don't know if I understood the question exactly about bands that
are still performing that have put out five albums with the same
lineup....if I understand the question correctly, then Van Halen
counts twice (I don't know if anyone answered with that already).
With David Lee Roth, there was I, II, women and children first, Fair
Warning, Diver Down, and 1984....with Sammy Hagar, there was/is 5150,
OU812, F.U.C.K., Live:Right Here Right Now (don't know if live
counts) and now balance. Have I stumbled upon a good one? Let me
    know.

Of course, JP plays the lead melody line from WYWY during To Live Forever
(on Live In Tokyo and Lost In the Sky boot (probably QUITE a few other shows

Just wanted to take the time to introduce meself....I am Brian
Lesniewski.....known as SOUP to my friends.....I've only posted a
couple times since I've only been hooked up here for a week, but I
just wanted to say a few things....first of all, there's the issue of
moshing....debated to death, but I'm gonna say something anyway....I
feel that if people wanna mosh, let them mosh, they are only at the
shows to wreak havoc and not to appreciate the music, but they really
need to stay in their own little pit area.....don't involve those who
are there trying to watch the show and appreciate the music....and I
don't think anyone is less manly (or womanly for our female
subscribers) if someone gets hurt in the pit....most of the time the
ones that get hurt are those who aren't moshing: those who actually
enjoy good music. But anyway, mosh away, just keep us out of it!
Also, I want to publicly(?) apologize to WyldKoba....didn't mean to
contradict you....it was mere sarcasm. Also, in response to the DT
poll....I can't believe more people didn't vote for Space-Dye Vest as
their favortie song. i REALLY can't believe so many people voted it
as their LEAST FAVORTIE SONG! This was quite possibly Kevin Moore's
masterpiece. It was definitely unlike anything DT has done before,
and I encourage them to use the SDV format again....although without
Kevin Moore, it may be pointless. I'd also like to comment on the
Dream Theater FAQ.....I don't know how many of you have read it...I'm
hoping you all have....but it says in there that Space-Dye Vest has
never been performed live....WRONG! I was at a show here in Michigan
at the State Theater and SDV was performed....and damn well, I might
add, even with Derek Sherinian playing the keys (He's not too bad,
but NO ONE can replace Kevin Moore!) Anyone who went to that show
can back me up on it. Well, feel free to comment on anything I've
said....I'm open to criticism, good or bad. Until next
    time.....Carpe Diem....

By the way just becuse they play more then just progressive stuff does not make
them a bad band. Open you mind. There is alot of music and to limit yourself to

    Dear jammers,

Hey there! I just came back from Mike's clinic and I have some info.
First of all, Rena gave birth to a boy and a girl last Friday, so big
congrats to John and Rena! Secondly, the band who will be opening up for
Dream Theater this December will be Rob Morgenstein's band, so that
should be pretty cool. Third, (Mike was pretty vague about this), Mike
will be doing a tribute for Rush, but I think that's about all he said.
I don't remember too much because he was talking to me rather quickly.
Also, I gave him a bunch of ytsejams, plus I printed out Trey's letter
about Ytsecon II and talked to him a little about it. He said he will
talk to the other guys about it and I gave him my phone number so he can
contact me about any developments. Also, this is to Mike, he thinks that
AD is really cool, and he mentioned that he called you when he got them.
So anyways, Mike says hi to the ytsejammers, so HI!!!!!!!!

Well, this night was really cool, so I'll TTYL!

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

P.S. BTW, to the guy who I was talking to about AD and Subconcious (I
think you had AD number one-hundred seventy something), you should post
and stop lurking! Don't worry, we won't bite (well, most of the time we
    won't!). TTYL!

    Dear jammers,

    >>>I can't chat on the weekdays anymore (parents orders), so I didn't
have anything to do where I could listen to music. SO, me being the
creative genius that I am :) I popped I&W in my walkman and went for a
moonlit bike ride around my devolopment. The tape was started on the second
side, so Metropolis was on. (BTW, Ross Specter! Lemme know what you
thought of Awake!) I rode around for about 20 minutes. Then Learning to
Live came on. There's a big hill where I live with sidewalk spiralling up
it. It goes about ten feet above the ground, and I rode up tp the top
(Okay, I cut across the grass! So SUE me! :) and collapsed (As I lay here
    drained of strenth :-)
Well, I was laying flat on my back and staring at the stars (anything's fun
while listening to DT). The Wait For Sleep part started, and right after
the drums came in.....a shooting star flew across the sky right above
me. I said, aloud, to no one: "Whoa." I thought that was pretty cool,
and still do, so I told you.<<<

    AAWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm must say that I'm sorry for what I said about the Beatles. Like I said
at the end of the post, I was just feeling very "wacky" and had all sorts of
thought bouncing around in my head that needed to come out.

I don't wish they (or their fans) were dead. I just wish they would all
CHILL OUT!!! Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this band break up
15-20 YEARS AGO?! It's just record companies ripping off the loyal fans
by releasing "greatest hits" albums every year and MAYBE adding one new
unreleased track (I think the new thing is all new right? How can that be?
BTW - I heard the new song - BLAAHH!!).

I know that their music has influenced many bands including my beloved DT
(yes, I'm WELL aware of all of the DT connections) and I guess that for
the 60's, their music may well have been groundbreaking, but for me,
their music is hmmm.... how can I say this... silly? imature? plain?
drab? I can't quite put it into words. I would say trite but I don't know
how to spell it. :) Wasn't most of it drug-induced anyway? I know DT has
some wacky lyrics but THEY never wrote about walrus' and the eggman. (yet)

There are probably a handful of songs that I can stomach but the rest just
    turn my stomach.

I've never been able to make up my mind about which band is more over-rated,
    the Beatles or Led Zep.

(Ah, another nice note to end the post on. I'm gonna put on my flame
retardent jammies and go to bed :) )

Actually it is Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and #2 is Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" if I recall correctly.

Greetings Ytsejammers..Firstly...I have a major bone to pick with a few of you. If I see the word "girl" in quotes ONE MORE TIME. I will personally send you a note on your naievity. Come on now, I fought for my musical independence in the eighties. Aren't we past this crap by now. When I started singing in my first project, it was 1987. I was 13 years old and didn't give a damn who thought I was too young. The band was fully established and in thier late 20's. I very clearly remember the look on the face of a man in the front row. He seemed in awe that a band who was signed would hire a girl...not only a girl...but a really really young one! I fought my battle to break on the music scene that day and that man..well he is one of my biggest fans now. I am one of the most soulful, energetic performers any of you will meet in your entire life. I have earned the right to be cocky. Anyone who doesn't believe I can compete...Please stand up now so that I can show you your stupidity...and then laugh in your fucking face! **************************** Issue #2..If any of you are as annoyed at me when trying to listen to a particular part of the song A Change of Seasons...here is a time breakdown of the CD. Its is approximate...but it'll get you to the area of the song that you're looking for.. ( I only seem to be obsessed with CarpeDium! Ahh.. a passionate piece indeed!!) A CHANGE OF SEASONS 0- The Crimson Sunrise 3:50- Innocence 7:15- Carpe Dium 10:08- The Darkest of Winters 13:00- Another World 16:58- The Inevitable Summer 18:37- The Crimson Sunset

Is anyone out there looking for DT boots? I have a 2 cd set called A Kick Into A Dream. I'ts an audience recording from the Manhattan Centre in New York 10-28-95. Total running time is :100. The highlight is that the set includes "The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun. Asking price is $33 ($30 + Postage). If interested, please email me directly.

Also, I just got in the mail a video of the Japan PPV concert. My guess is that this copy came directly from the master (NO generation loss) and is in STEREO! If you would be interested in a copy, email me directly. I have two 4-head hifi stereo vcr decks here, so your copy will be very nice. On a scale of 1-10, this is definitely a 9+ (10 rating is only for Laserdisc).

i've been thinking about some things, and they won't let me sleep

i see dt as becoming the yes of the 90s. as is the case with yes, dt has a lot of backing vocals (not as obvious as in yes, but they're there).

ever heard/seen yes live, espeically in the 70s? the backing vocals are really poor. dt live- almost the same, except that there are rarely any nacking vocals, which i think is a shame. just wish dt worked more on vocals, but there i go again being a picky fool.

#2- innocence faded; i think the reason i like that song so much is b/c it reminds me of i/w. yet, awake is my favorite album. just found that interesting.

little over a month away from the ct gig.

Well, err, myself, The Digital Man, E-Man (Elliott Kim?) and NewtSlayer were there, and no, we were on #ytsejam. You sure you were on at 8:00 EST and not Pacific Time?!

Sunday nights? Good for TV shows? Get real! I think you're a minority here. :)

ACOS shirts?! Awake hats?! I want! I don't suppose anyone would be willing to take my money and get an extra shirt or hat and send it to me would you? I'd just love to make the trip down there from Toronto, but the two problems are that a) I don't own a car, and b) I'm only 17 and probably couldn't get into any of the shows.

To the guy who's selling the YtseJam hats - hurry up and put the picture up on your web page! I probably really want one, but I want to take a look first. I hope the logo looks a bit better/more professionally done than the one on the stickers.

    Hey all you Rush and Lifeson fans;

Heard on the radio this morning that Lifeson's solo project will be released in Jan-Feb timeframe as has been reported on the 'jam for some time now. But the other interesting thing was that he was reportedly going to do a small tour. According to the report I heard, he was going to use the singer from I Mother Earth as his singer (of course) and on bass use Les Claypool from Primus. They didn't announce when or even if this tour was going to happen but usually when this station annouces something like this, it usually happens. Thats all for now.

Hello everyone, it's BABS. I keep seeing a post regarding which female answered the favorite song poll. I never answered, so I'm not one of the four. Although, I do wish to list my favorites:

    1) Metropolis Part I 2) Another Day 3) The cover of Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight (Off of Subconscious) tied with their cover of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding

It ain't no big deal to mosh or not at a DT ocncert. I'd like to agree with some, though: why should moshers be up front and those who want to watch the musicians be in back? It does seem bassackwards. If moshing is your form of expression or the way you get into a concert, that's cool. But be sure you're not starting up in an area of watchers. It gets unpleasant for everyone. As a performer, I don't mind seeing moshing. I also don't mind people just standing there. But you want reaction. If everyone is sitting there silent during the song, cool. But if the song ends and the audience is still silent, that's a bad sign. Response is necessary though it doesn't always need to be shown during the song.

As for people who mosh at concerts like Spin Doctors (which, I am sad to say, I've been witness to), that seems ridiculous to me. I think a lot of younger concert goers will mosh to just about anything...even Hootie (God I hate that band!). But moshing needs a certain intensity. It can't be just anything MTV plays. I guess I just need a certain feel. I don't get it from DT. I want to watch and listen, but others do. LATER

Bafu Vai (early mention!!) brought up an argument (re-visited? I don't know if it was on this list or the SiD) regarding the next wave of "popular" music. He mentioned the Leviathon label and progressive rock being a possible heir to the radio throne. I agree that the Bush-bands will go down (and he must go down hard! -- thanx Sportscenter) very soon. The grunge idea has peaked and the pretenders are on top--a VERY bad sign for the genre.

However, from many indications I feel the next new wave may be in the hip-hop/jazz/funk fusion. Here in Chicago, there have been many bars that have had acts getting stage time from this vein. A couple bars have devoted whole evenings to it. And, in my visit to New York City last week, I saw a couple venues touting their fusion acts and spoken word stuff. Even in Chicago's "underground" press, the _Reader_, when I look through the "musicians wanted" classifieds, there are more and more requests for brass players, funk bassists, keyboard players with sample ability, etc.

I think there are some very cool things coming out of this genre. Some of it may be interesting to Jammers just for the experimental side of it all. There are also some very good musicians, here. This can be very complex, albeit semi-improvisational, music.

I just have a feeling the "mainstream" will move further from the extreme of the 1980s metal before it comes back to it. The hard rock of the '70s needed to give way to new wave, etc. before returning and I think that will happen again. LATER-
