Well Mr. Hartman...if you are wondering why you are not getting any orders,
give your head a shake man! Don't you think that if DT really likes these
bands that most of us don't? I have nearly everything they covered 'cause
I like that shit too! I dig Kansas, I have the Zep Box set etc. The only
thing I don't have is the Dixie Dregs and Genesis...I'm looking for DD and
am not really interested in Genesis...I'm sure a lot of other 'jammers are
in the same boat as me!

Hey...isn't it neat how my column lined up...............................^

And to all Toronto area 'Jammers who saw MP and JL at the drum clinic,
thanks for letting us know that was happening...thanks for nuthin'. Shit!

    Greg.

who listen to DT. I'm putting you in my address book of you're not
already there for further contact. God Bless you Wim you are
definately not alone, right Randy A. and you others out there? Rock

Neil, that'd be "Titties and Beer" by Frank Zappa. I found an old mixed
cassette of my brother's, and it had that song on it. My friends and I
just howl every time we hear DT connection - Portnoy loves Zappa.

Speaking of Portnoy, that's totally cool that he writes his drum parts
while on the can. I'm a guitarist/songwriter and I've come up with
some of my best stuff while havin' a dump!

I was able to get a video of DT in 1989. Of course at that time Charlie was
their singer...BUT...during the set both Mike P. and John P. were singing
    back up vocals.

    And they sounded damn good.

Does anyone know , with the exception of Silent Man, why they don't do back
up vocals "live" anymore?? Granted James can harmonize with himself in the
studio, and it sounds great. I have to wonder why they chose to have him sing
solo, without the harmonies, when they play live.

OK Hairball...I know you have played with DT before (see Acoustic Dreams for
proof)...so you must know the answer, so spill it!!

Lemme see... first, the answer to my last lyric quiz, which no one got.

    "Who hunter? Who victim?
    God love America
    He surely doesn't love him"

is from "Jean the Birdman" by David Sylvian and Robert Fripp. THE FIRST DAY
is a great album, strange. It has a very heavy groove by Trey Gunn on stick
and Jerry Merotta on drums, but the improvisation in guitars and soundscapes
makes this sound extremely eerie. That no one on the list knows this just
makes me think, "Shame on you." Considering how good this album is, I'd
think it would fit the tastes of a good number of ytsejammers.

That said, as always try to listen to a new group before you buy the album.

Okay, now for a new one. Much easier:

"*Brent*: Christ, the girls are onto you. A goodless herd, but I don't believe
    in God either.

    *Jesus*: And neither do I."

..for jammers who like listening to something much harder than Metallica.

You know, I wish I were a woman. It's like, instant coolness. You like
progrock, DT--the best music--well that's pretty rad. Shows you got
good taste. But you're female--everyone loves you, knows who you are,
reads your posts with anxious anticipation. The unique among the unique.

Can't afford the surgery, though. Oh well.

There probably are a lot of singers on the list. Everyone likes to sing.
Though I can still make a note on the flute (six years being bored with
an instrument easily kills seven years of experience), and could probably
relearn trombone, and am often practicing drumming--lack of drums
notwithstanding--I also sing. I'm a (it sounds to me, not that I'm
unbiased) decent baritone, and what keeps me from being a 'vocalist' is
    lack of a band.

So, in summary, I'm not sure if I'm a musician or not, but I guess you
can add 'musician-wannabe' to major DT lover archetypes.

You know, drumming at the same time as singing is really hard. Jerry
    Gaskill is just amazing.

Oh, and truly awful joke time. Stop me if you've heard this one:

"What do you get when you cross Lee Iaccocca and a vampire?"
    "AUTOEXEC.BAT"

    Greetings fellow Jammers,

I was on IRC this evening and I had a brilliant flash of
inspiration (with a bit of help from some other guys): everyone
discusses their favorite obscure groups on the Jam, recommending Band X
or Band Y to their fellow Jam members... so, why not make an organized
effort to get some music circulating amongst ourselves. Here's what I
    propose to do:

Everyone interested will make a cassette of some of their
favorite less heard of bands (Ivanhoe, Shadow Gallery, Anacrusis,
whatever...) and send it to 3 other Jam members. This way each person
who signs up can for the price of 3 cassettes, some postage, and a bit of
time, receive 3 tapes full of stuff they may have never checked out
otherwise. It'd be a great way to get exposure to new groups.

So, here's what you need to do if interested: send mail to the
following address indicating your intention to participate:

tapeswap@reich.uark.edu -- Please include your complete mailing
address and country if not USA, also
                                    your email address.

I'll be the one compiling the list of people participating and actually
assigning your three names and addresses. As for people outside the U.S.
I'll do my best to hook you up with others outside the U.S., in the same
    country if possible.

    A few ground rules:

    1. All correspondence goes to the above address: I'll handle all the
logistics of the thing and if necessary get a volunteer to help me out.

    2. I'm trusting all Jam members to be cool about this... please only
sign up if you intend to make a compilation tape and send it to 3
people. Also, we're just going to leave it to everyone's consciences to
be honest and get your tapes out after signing up... please don't abuse
your fellow Jammer's trust in you. Also, please don't wait several
months after getting assigned your addresses to send tapes to. Try to be
    prompt on your end.

    3. Tapes: tapes should be probably either 60 or 90 minute tapes filled
up with whatever you pick. The guidelines for music to include are:
prog or of interest to prog fans... no Snoop Doggy Dogg, Garth Brooks,
or Mozart guys... Also, try to pick some stuff that not everyone would
be familiar with: Metallica, Queensryche, and Dream Theater are *not*
acceptable... that's not the point here. The point is to introduce
people to new bands. Also, please label your tapes well: track number,
band name, song name, album name, etc. It does no good to get a tape
chock full of great tunes with no names to tell you who they are by.

    4. Postage and tape costs will be paid by the shipper. We don't want
any money going back and forth through the mail, just tapes. If everyone
is honest, this is not a problem at all. You pay for the three tapes and
the postage to get them to their destination, and the guys sending tapes
to you will do the same.

    5. Any suggestions can be sent to me at the above address:
    (tapeswap@reich.uark.edu).

    6. Anyone who wishes to thank me for my efforts and time can do so by
simply making a 4th copy of their tape and sending it to me at:

            Edwin H. Reed
            Box 105 Gregson Hall
            Fayetteville AR 72701

This is not required by any means, but I would appreciate it if a couple
guys would send me an extra copy of their tape for my troubles. I don't
want to make it seem I'm doing this completely for my own benefit... I
think all of us can benefit from this, and the prog community as a whole
    will thrive.

That's all I can think of for now... everyone who wants to participate
just drop me a line and we'll get this thing started. I'll start
distributing names and addresses to participants as soon as I get enough.

    Ed.

I asked a few days ago if there is an ASCII form of writing songs for
keyboards. I can't be the only one interested here! Can at least one
person tell me either "no it doesn't exist" or (hopefully) "yeah you can
get some keys songs (by DT) at the following web site...."

Also, what is the instrumental they do after Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
on the Jan 24/95 Awake in Japan show? Someone asked this already but
nobody answered. And speaking of that particular video, how can I find
out what they are saying in Japanese (like when they present the band
with the platinum CDs) without actually learning the language myself?

BTW: Last time I checked I wasn't subscribed to the Lyrics of
    Metallica/Megadeth list. <hint hint>

                             -------DATE AND TIME????------

----The YtseCon is planned for Thursday, Dec 28 @ aprox. 5:00 pm EST. right

--------The time and dates are set unless it ends up that no-one can come or

I know that many of you wanted it at other times, but I had to make it most

                            ------ARE YOU COMING???------
So now what I need to do is get an estimated number of attendants. I will
post the list of people that I have and if you are NOT on the ***MAILBU
(NY)*** show list, and WILL STILL BE ATTENDING the YtseCon send me mail.

I repeat! If you aren't on the following list and will still be attending

Then the # of attendants can be given to DTs managment to show that this
    isn't just some unorganized party.

                            ----COVERING THE COSTS------
We will also have to have some kind of donations or entry fee or something
to raise money for this. I was considering having this in a meeting room in
a hotel near the club. This can run from $100-???? ...way up there
depending on the # of people and size of room. Also we need some kind of
food/refreshments and I would like to get some shirts made saying something
about YtseCon II w/ the Majesty logo on it to give to everyone who comes.
So I am thinking that maybe $20-$25 per person would cover everything. I
will get back to you all on the exact price and all that, but I would really
prefer that the money be sent prior to the show so I'm not diging so far in
my empty pocket to front the cash!!!

                        ------WAIT FOR A FURTHER UPDATE!-------
If you have any ideas about the meeting place or anything else for that
    mater, let me know.

    Thank you for your support!!!!

    Hi!

My copies of Acoustic Dreams arrived today. I have to disagree with the one
who wrote the sound is better than on WDADU. The sound quality is GOOD, but on
WDADU there are no fucking fade-outs. Forget it... the fade-INs are even worse.
I have a bad feeling, sounds sort of censored. Imagine there's DT live on
radio and you get home too late and miss the first seconds. Then during the
first song your father steps in and switches the radio off, just before the
ending chord. PLEASE, MIKE! Don't fade that SLOWLY next time! Subconscious
was a LOT better, though the source-recordings weren't half as good as the
    AD ones.

I think I got it now, that's what I always think when I hear AD: Sounds like
someone started CD player and tape recording at the same time without
thinking of that intro tape of the cassette... sigh... maybe that's why I'm so
pissed, that's one of my worst nightmares: badly dubbed tapes...

Hairball on vocals... did you really HAVE to list this fake band for legal
reasons? Hell, get your laser printer ready ;-)

BTW, AMAZING cover! The I&W-girl's mirror is a walkman... another secret dis-
    covered...

    Bye, Steffen

    Hello Jammers!!

Seeing that there's a lot of articles about Mike Portnoy's drum clinic, I
    thought I'll

Note: the info here has nothing to do with DT. (sorry :-P )

I've created a Drummer's Discography WebPage and hope that another who love
    drums pay a
visit to the site and let me know what cha think (including Mr Portnoy if
    you have a
chance to surf the net :-) ). It also includes the discography (almost
    complete) of one
of Mike's fav drummers (according to the FAQ) Terry Bozzio.

    So check it out!

    Drummer's Discography WebPage
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The Drummer's Discography WebPage can be found in :

            http://www.cst.com.au/~richie/drum/index.html

    Currently it contains :
    * Terry Bozzio's Discography
    * Chad Wackerman's Discography
    * Robert Wyatt's Discography
    * a huge list of CDs released by Drummers

The next drummer to be added is Dave Weckl.
    Future inclusions are :
    *Jack Dejohnette
    *Dennis Chambers
    *Steve Gadd

If you have any information (such as album titles, track listings etc) on any
of the drummers mentioned, or if you want to see your favourite drummer
included, please email me at :

                    richie@fawlty13.eng.monash.edu.au

Note : The existence of these discographies are due to contribution from the
internet community. Without your help and input, it will not work.

    Enjoy!!

I am still doing dubs for the San Francisco area. Ill take tapes
from wherever, and send them wherever, just give me enough postage to get
    it back to you.

Email me if you are interested. I was formerly Learng2Liv@aol.com,
but I got this hookup and it is much better, and will be canceling the AOL
account soon. If you are emialing that account hoping for me to respond,
you will probably just get a message telling you to email this account, so
    save yourself the trouble.

And I enjoy spreading the dub, this is NO trouble for me, I assure you.

It is your opinion on the "abuse" issue. I never start any "evangelistic"
effort without having been proded <sp> by ignorant, reckless and senseless
remarks about God and lack of reverence for His name. My intention is not
to evangelize the Y-jammers, but to give a Christian's point of view on
various topics presented by others on the list. Being a Christian and a
Y-jammer myself I will not compromise or choose a "policically correct"
stance on these issues. Politically correct does not = right, one must make
this distinction. Being a Y-jammer I'm entitled to my posts. I'm not
shoving anything down anyones throat. Those people who are not Christians
most times take a Christian's point of view as an affront and feel
threatened by the context of the language used.

Sorry, will not water the Gospel down for the sake of being accepted by
everyone on this list. I will not use this list as a vehicle for winning
people for Christ. I will continue to present my stance as a Christian when
    I feel it is appropriate.

Post all the anti-religious text you want, I hate religion anyway. As for
netiquette I believe there are a lot of abuses with that regard being posted
on the jam already. Flaming and gutter talk is not netiquette from what I
understand. BTW, I do take certain subjects off the jam and direct it to
the person I disagree or want to clarify with.

    God Bless,

Boy you have class. Why don't you start your own list for people who have
a twelve year old mentality and thrive on negative news. You need help.

A few years ago, I remember watching a program where they said that "Grandma
Got Run Over By A Reindeer" replaced "White Christmas" as the #1 Christmas
record of all-time. So if White Christmas was #1 then the Elmo & Patsy tune
so be #1 one now. That's just what I heard, I have no proof.

I hate to say it, but I'm glad I won't be at the DT Birch Hill show. I was
seriously considering flying out (from San Francisco) to see them. I've never
seen DT and think this would be the perfect time. But it sounds like the mood
there is going to be pretty ugly. It's a shame that you can't go to a show
and just enjoy a good band without having to look over your shoulder
constantly to see if someone is going to slam into you. I've never been hurt
at a show by a mosher, but that's only because when the mood starts getting
    ugly, I move back.

I hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. BTW, I have gotten a lot of requests
for that Japanese 1/24/95 PPV show. If anyone would like a copy, you can send
either a Money Order or cash (M.O. preferred) for $7 to cover the cost of a
high grade tape and postage. The video is :120 pro shot in HIFI STEREO. I
think my copy is directly from the master, so your copy would be second
generation and in STEREO. Take care.
