DT doing Judas Priest's "Touch of Evil"? Surely "Painkiller" would be more

This _must_ be based on reading lyrics for Mirror (M), rather than ACOS... I

    Hi Everyone!

First of all, as a reply to "CHARLIE DOMINICI KICKS ASS!" I have a few things to
say: - WDADU was the second aldum I bought from Dream Theater (the preceding was
Images and Words) and I think it's still great. Although I first very
much liked Charlie's voice (he is great on "A Fortune In Lies") when I
heard "The Killing Hand" I simply felt he does not belong in this band.
(As we can see, the changes have happened...) I've studied music for more
than 12 years now (this is a lot considering my age) and I find that
Charlie is in fact not a good singer. The problem not only lies within
his style, tone and colour of his voice, but... well he tries to sing
things, that he simply can not.
I have a copy of Dream Theater's concert in NY (1993 I think) and there
James sings "A Fortune In Lies" and "The Killing Hand" and although
he sometimes has bad monents on stage - I think I've read about your
oppinions on the Jam erlier - he really gives life to these two songs.
One more thing: I do not wish to hurt "concerned Charlie fans" I simply
           stated some facts...

Second: I've read most of your oppinions on what Dream Theater should cover, and
I can only say, that although I am not a real Metallica fan, I think
"One" might be a good choice...
Of course some Orchestral pieces for Bach or Vivaldi would even overrule
           that.

    Hey everyone,

Mike's clinic a few nights ago was excellent. The place was packed. All
    the
seats were full and there were mamy, many people standing. It was nice
to see a great turnout for Mike.

The highlight of the evening was when Mike played the instrumental
section of Metropolis on the drums, with the audience 'singing' some of
the important instrumental licks. He explained how he thinks of different
drum patterns and how the band writes the music together.

A few non-drum questions were answered during and after the clinic-

1- Scarred live- Mike's not sure if they are going to play it at the
coming shows. He said the last time he played Scarred was when they
    recorded it.

2- Opening band- As Jeff said previously, Rod Morgenstern's band is
probably going to open. The keyboard player in that band is Jordan Rudess.

3- Ronnie Scott's video- As of now, there are no firm plans to release
    the video.

4- Moshing- Mike doesn't mind too much if people mosh to the heavier
sections. He doesn't like when people mosh during Wait For Sleep.
He also seemed to answer the question diplomatically, and I got the
feeling that moshing wasn't one of his favorite activities.

5- November 16- Underneath Mike's hige CARPE DIEM tattoo, it has the date
November 16, 1984. Nike said that this was the day his mother died and
that the "Another World" section is specifically about that time.

    6- Mike is the coolest.

    Thanks to Augie for driving.

    Andy

YESSSSSSSSS.....other people who are into the magnificently talented
prog weirdness that is THOUGHT INDUSTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That quote is from the song "Michigan Jesus" (the shortest opera) from
the album "mOds carve the pig: assassins, tOads, and gOds flesh"

GREAT BAND!!! The album "Songs for Insects" is amazing! I can't wait
for the new one. I keep procrastinating in e-mailing Brian Cox for
those videos. (I'll get around to it soon..I hope!)

IRONIC note for the day: When I saw DT at the Manhattan Center in 93,
the promoter told us the show started at 6:00pm sharp! My friends and
I show up at 5:45 so that we can catch every band. We get in to see
some SHITTY band called "Ancestors" begin to play. So, we were
thinking, COOL we made it. All of a sudden we here the PA system
announce, "So did Thought Industry warm you guys up? Here is
"Ancestors"!!" From that moment on, I show up to every concert 48
    hours earlier!!!!!!

Again, great qoute from a great band.

    Cheers,
       Carlo

    Hey Jammers,

Due to a mixup with my import CD dealer I have an extra copy of Crimson Glory's self titled debut CD and Elegy's latest CD, 'Lost' on my hands. Shrink wrapped and everything.

If any of you are interested in picking 'em up, both bands are very much in the vein that Dream Theater aficionados love...and I just want to break even on 'em since I certainly don't need two copies of these.

    E-mail if interested.

To the guy wanting to know about keyboard transcriptions: Of course, the best method for transrcibing keyboard parts is standard musical notation. Find a way to make it look good in ASCII and you're a long way ahead of most people. :)

God-Folk: I prolly shouldn't touch this, but you're being really obnoxious. Just because someone mentions the word "god" in their post doesn't mean you have a driving need to respond. If you feel you do, you don't need a preacher, you need a good secular therapist.

And, just to brew the pot a bit: The only real force behind your life, the only being with true power to determine your fate and the knowledge to guide you is yourself. Gods are just crutches invented by the weak.

And that's all I'll ever say on the matter on the Jam.

Acoustic Dreams: God mine! Hairball, will you autogtraph my copy?? ;) #349. Maybe I should add that to my theoretical badges on my Ytseshirt. Subcon #490, AD #349, WDATU #whatever, etc... I'd start to feel like a boy scout sooner or later. "And this is the honor badge I got for..."

They Broke up in 1969. While Capitol wa releasing collection of old stuff, 1994 was the first album of "new" Beatles material since 1970. O.K., The BBC discs were from 1962-65, but it's the first time they were "officially" released. The new Anthology set has a lot of unreleased demos and stuff but it has one tune on it called "Free As A Bird" which was a demo recorded by John Lennon in 1977. Yoko Ono (John's wife) gave Paul McCartney the tape and he added some lyrics and the other Beatles played on it. That's why they're calling it a "new Beatles song. I don't think the song is all that great either, but it's the Beatles. The Video was pretty interesting though. When I was younger I didn't care for them too much and liked Led Zeppelin even less, but as I got older I learned to appreciate their music more. They may not have been the first to do what they did but they were so big that when they did something, everybody listened. Here's one you might not get...

Wow! I get back from Turkey break & there's an onslaught of messages in my account. I need a big favor from whoever can oblige me.

    1) What are the tour dates and locations for the 3 shows in December? (Previous Jams were erased from my account) 2) Does anyone have any kind of dub from either the JP or MP clinics? (Interested in a trade) 3) Anyone have the Ronnie Scott's show (in it's entirety) dubbed? (Also interested in a trade) 4) Is DT releasind a video around Christmas?

If you have any of this information please e-mail me at WP1839@Appstate.Edu

It's been a while since I've posted, so I thought I'd knock one out while I'm waiting for my mural to dry. (I'm painting a mural in my dorm; it's inspired by DT's Metropolis!) Anyway, I got my copy of AD (358) just before break and I'd like to thank Mr. Bahr on an incredible job. Here's my list of songs that I think would be neat for DT to cover: Cemetary Gates Sanitarium Alexander the Great Now Your Gone Just my opinion but I'd love to hear it!

I am also interested in DT boots and dubs. I have a list myself and I'm interested in trading, so if you have a list please E-MAIL me at the above address. I will e-mail you back with a copy of my list as well. If every thing goes according to plan a group of my friends and I plan on making one of the dates in December! I can't wait! Till nextposting time, Brandon

    Hello Jammers,

I just want to say "Thanks" to all of the Jammers who have checked out my WWW pages and given me suggestions of comments, or have found something useful.

I have about half of my band "comments" sections finished, once I finished the others I will be adding a few new bands as my pile of demos I mailed for finally arrives. I will also be rotating the sound files and putting up new ones a week after I finish the reviews. I only have room for about four or five at a time so I will take turns with each band. The address:

    http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~mbacko1/munsign.html

feel free to make links to this page, and if you have a band who needs a spot to get some info on the Word Wide Web, let me know and I'll put your information up on the page, free of charge, this is a public service, though I do appreciate when people send me demo tapes and CDs. <grin>

For those of you who have, or haven't heard of Inferno I am now housing the site for their WWW Page.

    http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~mbacko1/inferno.html

I have a couple of interviews, new information (current as of about a week), album reviews of Architect demos (ehich you can get from Jay Peele for $6, see the page for info), and sound and band photos will be arriving anytime. Send me feedback, it can only help the page, not hurt it.

BTW Inferno did open up for Dream Theater during the Images and Words tour in Florida.

    Later,

    Mike

e-mail jpeele@unf6.cis.unf.edu if you want to buy a copy of the Architect demos which are a preview of their forthcoming album Panels.

    Hello Jammers,

As some of you know, Jason Hartman and myself (Mike Backof) are working on a double tape set of the original songs that Dream Theater covered at the Ronnie Scott's gig last January in London. It is going to include full length versions of all of the songs that DT cut into medleys, and the whole running time will probably clock in at about 180minutes. In a couple of days we will post the set list with running times to the Jam, but right now we just need to get some idea of interest so we know what quanity of tapes to produce (all of the songs will be mastered from CD).

    e-mail Mike Backof (mbacko1@umbc.edu)

    OR

    e-mail Jason Hartman (lhartm1@umbc.edu)

if you are interested in getting one of these tapes in the future. We will probably be selling them after Christmas so as to miss the Christmas mail rush, that occurs in December.

Let us know how many copies you would be interested in and how much you would be willing to pay for a copy. (remember it is a double tape set)

Thanks for your time and Thanks to Mike Bahr for his moral support! <grin>

    Later,

    Mike

Yes and No. The original ACoS lyrics were Mike's first. While he may have written part of Take The Time, the first specific credit was The Mirror. His latest lyrics are the re-worked ACoS.

Of course, if Mike wrote any lyrics for the Majesty songs then that would be his first lyrics.

This is a great question to ask Mike if anyone gets the chance.
