I have a pair of favs from the Acoustic Dreams release (excellent work brother
Michael!!). I can't get enough of the raw version of 6:00! The axe/keys combo
at the front of the tune have such a crunch! I also love Another Day. All that
sound from one guitar and James does a great melodical rendition! I like his
"inversion" of direction the melody takes from the I&W version. The falsetto
is done pretty well, too. James is no Phillip Bailey, here, but very
    respectable!

I thought Bruce was going to have a clearer voice on PS. He appearantly is
showing wear and tear. The last Maiden stuff I really heard was Wasting Love.
He's a bit more gruff, though no less powerful.

Another note on the latest Bahr release. How big of a room was it that DT
played on the two "hidden" tracks? It sounds like a very small crowd. I also
can't imagine that much conversation going on at a concert like that. When I
see DT my eyes and ears are fixated. There's no way I'm gonna have a
conversation, especially as much as on this recording! The only time I've ever
heard that much talking at a show was the Big Head Todd/Dave Matthews show at
the Aragon here in Chicago last Spring. But that was more party/bar
    atmosphere. LATER-

I have seen some of the DT song interpreted but one I have

I grasped most of it, but can't figure out who Cassandra was/is...

This was just discussed a couple of digests ago (and it is also in the

Here is the complete TAB for ACOS....

I wish! Seriously, if a couple of us guitarists would do a little work, we could TAB the whole thing out easily. Here is what I suggest. Interested persons let me know.

    The ACOS TAB Project --------------------

Brian Cox has already started transcribing the beginning of ACOS as posted in YtseJam #1000. I have worked out some of Carpe Diem. I propose that interested guitarists would be assigned a particular section of the song to transcribe. If there are more than 7 interested, we can assign more to each section or hardest sections or split up each section. Imagine how quickly we can tab this thing out. Afterwards, we email each of our transcriptions to others for checking. After debate and corrections, we have a near perfect transcription (maybe even send it to Petrucci?). The final TAB will be available for everyone. Interested? Email Brandon Vaughn at edleader@uwf.cc.uwf.edu for info.

I'd like to compile a list of every instrumental that DT has played-- and I mean real instrumentals, not instrumental versions of vocal songs like on the InstruMental discs.

    Here, I'll start:

Bombay Vindaloo The Ytse Jam Erotomania Moon Bubbles Barf Bag Eve A Crack in the Mirror Back Pain Jam Awake Heavy Jam (I guess we should include Pup even though it's now Mirror)

    add to the list?

Hey all, I realize that this has no DTC but I can't help it. If there's anyone out there who's into Kitaro in the least, pick up his newest album "AN Enchanted Evening." All I can say is WOW!

And since someone mentioned Testament (and I have been unable to brag about this because all of my friends who also like Testament were there with me), I got to meet them after the last show on their tour in Colorado Springs! It was great! I'll leave it at that so as not to waste DT bandwidth, but the guys in Testament are all very nice funny guys.

Does anybody know if John Petrucci's mother ever was or is a substitute teacher? I went to Commack High School, which is very close to Kings Park, where the guys are from, and in 11th grade I had a substitute teacher in my italian class one day and her name was Mrs. Petrucci. Is it possible that I had the mother of the best guitarist in the world as a teacher for a day? It was also in that class that we saw a movie called "Cinema Paradiso", in which an old blind man says that little part in "Take the Time". That reminds me, does anybody know where those people talking in "6:00" is from? One more question, does anyone else agree that the guitar solo in the second part of "Lie"(you know, the one the radio and MTV cut out) is one of his best solos? The solo in "Under a Glass Moon" is also one of my favorites. If anyone can help me with that first question e-mail me at: long16@matrix.newpaltz.edu "As a child I thought I could live without pain, without sorrow. Same situation. Mulcahy's is a Long Island Sports bar, and the place is pretty big. It was a bit crowded that night, but only about 50% were Dream Theater fans. I was about 10 feet from the stage, and even that close, people were still talking. It really sucked. Even more unbelievable is that the talkers seemed to be fans.

This is my first post to the JAM after a year of active reading. It is awesome that there are many other finatics besides myself out there! Last night I attended a drum clinic put on by Explorer's Music in Kansas City. Sabian was Mike's Sponsor that got him to go there. Anyways, like all DT performances it was jaw dropping! I was late to the clinic by about 5 minutes but was told he was just warming up(although catching the warm-up would have been awe inspiring). He played a lot of riffs from tunes and explained how he thinks and writes up his drum parts. Also he went into a little bit about how DT arranges tunes. Kinda funny how he explained it!! Mike also fielded questions from the audience. One of the questions was what happened to Kevin Moore? Portnoy:"He shaved his head and moved to L.A." He was joking, but said they were still friends aside from the split from DT. Mike closed by playing along with a recording of Erotomania. WHOA! it was awesome. He put in a drum solo at the end. He took a break and them came to sign stuff and talk. I IMPORTANT!! YTSEJAMMERS LISTEN UP!! I talked to Mike about the Jam and he said he hasn't heard anything from the Jam as of late. He says he has no NET access. He asked that I would let anyone no that is going to any of his clinics bring along past jam info in paper form so he can catch up! Anyway an excellent night with an excellent musician! A very musical experience. "You can find all You need in your mind" DJMC

About the show in New London, CT. I called up today, and asked a few questions. The conversation went something like this:

How many people does the place hold? "lots" How much are tickets? "$10.00" Who's opening? "Pleasure Crush" What time's the show start? "8:00pm" How old do you have to be to get in? "How old are you?" 19 "You won't have a problem."

To get tickets from out of state: Send a money order ($10 each ticket) and a SASE to:

PO Box 2210 New London, CT 06320

Write "Attention Mike! Tickets!" on it. The guy said as soon as he gets something like this he'll mail off the tickets. They seemed pretty psyched about DT, the guy said he'd gotten a lot of out of state calls allready. Only $10 to see DT! Awsome... I'm in NY now, but I'll be heading down from NH with a friend to catch the show. Ever get the urge to just send all your cash to DT 'cause they're so good? Thanks to those who answered my previous Bombay Vindaloo question. And now another: Are DT in the habit of playing Bombay Vindaloo live? Has anyone ever seen it performed? How common is it? Thanks!

My fanstasy set list: PMU, ACOS, Scarred, TLF, Bombay Vindaloo, an improv jam, Metropolis.

Hey People! Two things: 1. One guy who's been to the Petrucci clinic says that the stuff he played was very Jazzy. Well, I always thought that the next DT album should be a fusion-with-vocals kinda thing. I think that DT playing fusion with James on vocals could be a beautiful, beautiful thing. I also think it would be a natural step of development for them.

    2. My favourite think on DT bootlegs is the little changes and improvisation they put in the songs. A few examples: *A jam in the end of TTT. *An extended outro in LTL. *Jams and solos ("Moon Bubbles", "Bombay Vindaloo").

I think that these are the stuff that can really show us how big a band is DT (as if we didn't know it already). I mean, it kinda tells us of their current moods and musical preferences.

    See ya

Well, since not-a-one person sent in any DT Interps, we (Ben Laussade and Trey Allen) have decided on a new format that is as follows:

    1. In place of sending your own interps, send questions about the Song of the Week. Maybe you'll have more to say.

    2. Once again send all questions to the Jam, NOT US.

3.In the subject, put: DT Interp Song Title, otherwise your question will probably be unseen and remain a mystery for many long years to come.

    4. Ask questions ONLY about the designated song of the week.

    5. Trey and I will answer the questions to the best of our knowledge and post them at the end of the week in an organized manner.

    6. SEND YOUR QUESTIONS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My personal position is that bootlegs like those we all pass around only help the band and the record company generate interest in their more legitimate products (the official CDs) and are therefore beneficial. Any attempt to curb such practice would result in disgruntled fans which is definitely worse than having no fans). Copyright laws are usually intended to discourage large organized efforts to divert record company and author income to individuals. They are not usually meant to "stick it" to individuals for copying a tape or cd for a friend.

You'd be hard pressed to get a record company exec to admit that of course, because all they think about are lost dollars. But the people who make the copyright laws don't think in dollars, they think in terms of fairness; both for the authors, and for those who consume the creative works (the fans).

I would like to thank any of you that mentioned Shadow Gallery. I have been looking for their cd for over two months now. Finally I just decided to place an order for it. Well, I was anxiously awaiting its arrival. You can imagine how damn pissed I have been lately. Every day I have checked for the Shadow Gallery Cd and my AD Cd. Well no AD, and then on top of it I was told two days ago that it would be a few weeks till my Shadow Gallery Cd cam in. Well, today I got a call saying that it was in. So I said fuck my econ midterm(not the midterm but the studying) and ran to pick up the CD. I put it in the player and I know this CD will not leave my player for a very long time(till AD arrives). Good thing my roomate now also likes DT and Shadow Gallery. So far through this group I have gotten into Echolyn(thanks to all of you who recommended them) and Shadow Gallery. I highly recommend Shadow Gallery to all DT fans. I couldn't imagine any of you being disappointed. They aren't as complex as DT but they have a very similar melodic sound.

Now if my AD CD doesn't come soon, I'm agoin' post man huntin'. I WANT MY CD!!!!

By the way, for all of you who remember a certain FIld Baskt who posted a lot of stuff in a short period of time, that's me. I am in college now so I have an account(quite a nifty one I might add. Gotta love ethernet connections). I've been trying to get people here into DT but most of them are either musical morons(hey, that's Wham, the greatest group ever) or mostly into rap. One girl even said to me, what was that, some Michael Bolton rip-off? Needless to say, her head now decorates, saving the space on the wall where I hope to put a DT poster if I can find one.

    Anyway, I WANT MY AD.

    Phil

Hello, I am Wolf Blitzer. Early Wednesday morning a lone man took control of the local Post Office. He is self-described as a "Ytsejammer", a member of an obscure polytheological religion, who's members worship a collection of gods known as "LaBrie", "Petrucci", "Myung", "Portnoy", "Sherinian" and their fallen angel of myth, "Kevin". His demands so far include delivery of the Sacred Acoustic Dreams Compact Disk. This idol of worship is supposedly created by the Great Prophet Mike Bahr for distrubtion amongst fellow Ytsejammers. Enraged by the long, almost 2 weeks, wait for this Compact Disk to arrive, the man stormed the Post Office and started rummaging through the package section. Two hostages have been identified. Molly Miricle and Sammy Sleeper have been taken into the package area and reportedly are waiting for "Metropolis" to start the "Dance of Eternity." We at the AP Press are still unclear of the meaning of this but screams of "Through nature's inflexible grace, I'm learning to live..." have led athorities to believe that the man in the Post Office should be considered crazy and dangerous. One SWAT team has been sent in already but has not come out. The last thing heard over their radios was the phrase, "I am the killing hand". Voice experts agree that it is the madman screaming but live, would sound very much like Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. We'll bring you more on this horrible story as things develop. I'm Wolf Blitzer for CNN reporting from the Dream Theater.

    OK here are my votes for my 5 favorite bands BESIDES Dream Theater;

SAGA RUSH YES PINK FLOYD QUEENSRYCHE

In that order exactly. Saga being the most versatile of the five and able to play just about anything and make it sound good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wishing ALL bands could be as good as Dream Theater, Rush, Queensryche, Pink Floyd and Saga!

    Yeah, I know....DREAM ON!!

I heard the live recording you're talking about. I think James said that because, since at the time of the recording they had been in Europe for a while, the Europeans maybe couldn't pronounce the words correctly. I don'tthink it was meant to be egotistical. Also it really isn't much of a tour plan, it's really just a couple dates.
