Hello - Since I have had difficulty reading quite a few of the recent YTSEJAM
postings (the problem is at my end), I do not know if this has been discussed
yet. But, has an official meeting place for before the CT show in New London
been established ?? If not, I have heard that there is a place called the
"Dutch Tavern" that is located within shouting distance of the El-N-Gee. This
place is supposed to be something like a TGI Fridays - not overly classy, not
too skanky (although there is definately nothing wrong with a little skank,
    especially before a show).

Are there any YTSEJAMMERS from the New London area who can suggest any place
that would be better ?? If an official meeting place is established, do you
think that it would be possible to let the band know that we would be there en
masse (hello, BABS). Maybe they could show up. Was thinking that we could
get together a group phone call to poor ol' Warren from Oregon and do a short
sing-along with MP, et al. You know, to kind of lift his spirits/blood
pressure. Hehehehe. I know, Warren, I know. What an asshole I am .........

You're right. My post was a bit harsh. I just didn't like the
change they made. None of the songs really grabbed my attention like
some of the previous Maiden albums have.

If he were letting off steam, fine. So was I. He said that our
(USPS's) collective IQ were lower than the general population. That sounds
like one HELL of an insult. I don't take kindly to personal insults
when someone doesn't get their mail as fast as they would like.

The only reason I mentioned my keystrokes is because it seemed to me
that he were implying that the USPS were slow and incompetent.

And as for being the fastest in the USPS, that's right. For now, I'm the
fastest they've seen so far. Within the span of a couple months,
they didn't think that anyone would get anywhere close to what I've
been able to achieve with as high of an accuracy as I have. For
once, I was able to show people how good I am at something that I like to do.

If you don't think so, I really don't care. The guy made an attempt
at apologizing to me and I can accept that. Your post, however,
shows so much arrogance. I can be pissed at something if I feel that
I've been insulted. If his post were directed at you directly or was
a general insult of the employees at where you worked, would you be
    so passive about the post?

    Dear Ytsejammers:

As reported to death here on the 'jam, Dream Theater are doing (3) rare shows
around the Holidays here in the Northeast. These are the last three shows
until LATE in 1996 and the start of their next U.S. tour!

Below, I've tried to supply a compiled list of general information to aid all
you DT fanz on the jam looking for assistance in getting to see one of these
killer shows. I've tried to cover all the bases below -- my apologies up front
if I've alleviated any pertinent information!

FWIW, I'll be at all 3 shows -- look for the tall "state trooper" guy in a
'ytsejam' t shirt and say hello!

    Rock on...
    /Buck

P.S. -- I'll be doing my infamous 'Programmes' for these shows, which are fast
becoming little collectors items in themselves. I print up 100 copies
per show, so be sure to grab one if you you can.

P.P.S. -- DT always plays a live version of "O Holy Night" at their Holiday
shows, so I certainly hope someone is bringing along a DAT machine!

    CLUB SHOW DATE
    ---- ---------
    El N Gee 27 DEC 95
    P.O. Box 2210 Wednesday
    New London, CT 06320
    (860) 437-3800

    How to get Tickets:

    1) Available from Strawberries Record Stores in the general CT area (possibly
MA and RI, but don't quote me on it).

    2) Send a MONEY ORDER for $10.00 PER TICKET, along with a _SASE_, to the club
at the address listed above. Mark CLEARLY on the envelope "ATTN: DREAM
THEATER TICKETS" -- the club will process the money order and mail your
tickets back to you via U.S. Snail Mail.

    Directions to the Club:

    ------------------------------

You'll go through 3 sets of traffic lights. After the 3rd set of lights,
there is a LARGE parking lot (free/public) on your left. Park in there. The
club is directly across the street. Please note: El N Gee is the club
directly across the street which you came down, NOT the club across the side
street which abuts the parking lot. That club is one of those "alternative
lifestyle" nightclubs, and you most likely won't find DT in there!!! 8^)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    CLUB SHOW DATE
    ---- ---------
Malibu Night Club 28 DEC 95
    Lido Beach, NY Thursday
    (516) 432-1600

    How to get Tickets:

    1) They are being sold through TicketShafter in NY. Call (516) 888-9000,

total of $17.30 per ticket!! Tickets are ordered through a major credit
card, and will be mailed to the address listed on your card.

    Directions to the Club:

Get to either the Long Island Expressway (aka, the LIE) or 495, and go to the
"Meadowbrook Parkway South" exit (towards Jones Beach). (If you'd like, you
can also take the Grand Central Parkway, which becomes the Northern State
Parkway, to exit 31 [I think], which is also the Meadowbrook...).

Once you're on Meadowbrook Parkway South, for this for a while until you come
to the last exit before Jones Beach (there should be signs for the toll booths
beforehand). There's an exit for the Loop Parkway, which takes you to Lido
    Beach/Long Beach/Point Lookout -- TAKE THIS EXIT!!

You will be heading west. Cross the bridge, and at the first light you get
to, make a RIGHT. About a 1/4 mile down, there will be another light, and if
you look to your left, you will see a sign that says "Malibu - Dec. 28 -
Dream Theater." Make a LEFT at this second light and park ... there is PLENTY
    of free parking!

       up and sell you tickets!!!

Mike S wrote this in 1058 refering to the song Another DAy:
Well, hate is way too strong here. We are simply listing our least
FAVORITE DT songs. That should imply that we still like them. For
my part, I listed Another Day because when I think of DT's songs in
my head, I can never remember how Another Day goes. Its as though it
doesn't make an impression on me. After listening to Pull Me Under,
I'm ready for TTT and Metropolis. Surrounded comes between, and I
always think, "Oh yeah, this is a great song too", but Another Day
leaves me with nothing. Just an opinion. Maybe you could explain
why you like it (is it the lyrics, cause if so, I don't pay too much
attention to lyrics - not until I've decided I like the music
    anyway).

Well, I find this extremely interesting because everytime I think of I & W,
I can't remember for whatever reason Another Day. I love the song, but
just can't remember how it goes. I can remember every lyric and every note
of every song on Images and WOrds excpet for Another Day. YOur
explaination may be right. I just had to put my two cents in.

This Operation: Revolution is a great idea. I believe everyone who
remotely likes Dream Theater or any other progressive rock bands should
participate in this great idea. I don't know about anyone else, but I
would love to see progreesive rock played more regulary. I seen 3 Dream
Theater video's in my life and definelty want to see more. I hope everyone
    contributes to Operation: Revolution.

I just wanted to say thanks again for all of the people who had input
in the thank you letter for DT releasing ACOS... We have a total of
141 personal messages to include and all of them are great. I will be
printing out copies of this book for the band members this weekend, I
just need to pick out the type of paper I want to use (something
classy and not boring)... The letters have all been compiled into an
MS Word document, a really cool hand writing font was used (makes it
look a little more personal), the cover is personalized for each band
member (with a Majesty logo - thanks AirDance!) and this whole thing
is being printed into a booklet format (via ClickBook -- very cool
utility)... Well, that's about all (I hope the bands digs them!)... In
case anybody is interested, here is what I wrote in the prelude to our
         little "book"....

         Dear Dream Theater,
This is a collection of letters from the members of the Ytsejam
Internet mailing list, expressing our appreciation for your decision
to release "A Change of Seasons", thanking us in the liner notes and
for your musical contributions to all of our lives. We hope that this
small token reflects how much your fans truly appreciate you work.

Well, there you have it... I should be able to get these things in the

    Hi gang!
Last night I went to a music video "test" hosted by VH-1, where they
showed 10-second clips of videos and we rated them thusly:
U = Unfamiliar with this vid, I can't rate it.
5 = I LOVE this video, down to
    1 = I HATE this video; also
T = I'm tired of seeing this vid on tv.
They showed about 300 clips in all, and there was no DT, alas. I
wasn't really expecting to see one, tho. One of the videos they
DID show was the bee girl from "No Rain" by Bland Felon. >:^(
I don't think I need to elaborate on how I voted for that one!
Suffice it to say that VENGEANCE IS MINE! Wahahahahahahaha! :^D

And to kill a few threads with one post:
-Metallica, QR, old Priest, old Maiden, Megadeth.
-I have a Sekova copy of a Gibson SG, DOD 555A distortion, and a
Marshall MS-2 ("1 watt of raging power"). Sounds like poo but I
     don't care.
-I say YIT-see-jam. Would somebody Pleeease ask Mike Portnoy (Hi Mike)
how the band says it so this thread doesn't come up again??

For guitar-hero fans: ever heard of "Maestro" Alex Gregory? He sounds
very much like Malmsteen and MacAlpine. I have zero info on him.

Welcome back Al B. and Hairball!

First: I believe that Jason Becker has already passed on. I don't know
where I heard that, but I do remember hearing it about a year ago or so.

Second: Has anyone forwarded the O:R post to NMS? If not, I'll gladly
do it. I've already forwarded it about 10 times!

Third: ...Damn! Now I forget what I wanted to say. Oh, yeah - the next
Jam I get will be my 100th! Happy 100th to me, happy 100th to me...

    -Chris

A while ago, after the release of ACOS, someone asked people to write thank-you letters to the band, right? I was just wondering what the situation with this project was.. Have the printed letters been sent? Did it work out ok?

BTW, I think Mike Bahr said that Portnoy had told him that the band would start working on the next album in December? If that's the case, when can we expect the release? How long did they work on Awake? I'd guess we'll have it during the first half of 1996, no?

Well, that's it from me now.. Keep the Jams coming. Antti - listening to Cynic (everybody should give them a listen, the last minute of the Focus album is incredible and entirely comparable to the legendary instrumental soloing between Petrucci and Moore on Learning to Live and other long-time faves :))

Ok, so I've been around the list for a while, and this will be my very first post, sorry, I may tend to ramble...so anyway, I've always been thinking of posting, but then someone else says exactly what I wanted to..no fair...but anyway, I'll follow this one through...

Fav. Bands ---------- 1. Dream Theater 2. Van Halen 3. Queensryche 4. Extreme 5. Queen (although the rumors about Freddie coming back from the dead to help with the new album scare me a little) 6. (local L.A.) Long Way From Sane

Guitarists ---------- 1. EVH (the guy is a god) 2. JP (the son of god) 3. Nuno (I'm not sure about this one, but it's very possible) 4. Dweezil Zappa (strange, and misguided but good, he worships Eddie!) 5. Ok, I know his name but I really can't think of it (Pride & Glory)

Vocalists --------- 1. Geoff Tate (wow) 2. James (of course) 3. Gary Cherone (weak at times, but he's got some style) 4. Steven Tyler (So distinctive)

Drummers ------- 1. Mike (he's so cool) 2. Lars (nobody pounds like that guy) 3. Alex Van Halen 4. Blas Elias (I can see the flames coming...but I like cow bells)

    >Okay, here's a twist on the top five favorite bands thing. What are >the five bands that you would most like to HANG OUT WITH?

I won't think too hard about this one.

    1. Melissa Etheridge (not a lesbian in my world :) 2. The Bangles 3. En Vogue 4. Janet Jackson 5. And of course, The Go-Go Girls.

I agree with two of these:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland Instead of the others mentioned, I would say:

Van Halen - first album. Rock guitar attained God status (deserved or not) Nirvana - whatever their first album was. I don't know. How much of today's music would be what it is without that? Again, good or bad... I'm not terribly knowledgeable about the beginnings of certain types of music. But there must be some band that really started the heavy metal movement in the 80's that should be considered. Although metal existed in the 70's, it seemed to go through a resurrection in the 80's that created a lot of influences on today's bands. I do not know if Metallica gets the credit or some other band. Someone more knowledgeable should step in here ...

Hey, are any Jammers into Shrapnel stuff as well as DT? I just started getting into it last Spring and am really into bands like Racer X and Cacophony. Someone was asking about rigs, and heres my pitiful setup: 1. Jackson JRR 94 (almost a Rhodes)- my pride and joy 2. Crate G20xl amplifier (6 years old) 3. 2 foot pedels- a distortion and a crybaby

I'm still saving to replace some of this equipement but, as I am only 16, this sounds good for now.

Not to be overly picky, but, of course, the Rush song is actually titled "Mission" Does that count?
