    Hey all ......

Just finished attempting to make myself blind, otherwise known
as readin 27 (yes, twenty seven) ytsejams in a row, so I have a few
    questions, answers, random ramblings, etc.

    Where to start ....

Top 5 bands, ummmmmm... you want today's list or yesterday's or should
I just post a new list each day???? :) Right nmow, I have been listening
to KMFDM and Life of Agony alot cause I saw them live on Tues, some
other random stuff in there too, oh yeah, SmackMelon too. Cool band
    from Boston.

As for music in general, blind melon, punk music, etc. Lemme put
it this way, I went to play ppol last night with some friends as I do
every weekend and as they played the music on the jukebox, I knew the
songs, and usually lyrics to 95% of the songs. I kind of pride myself
on the fact that I do have such a wide variety of tastes. Four hours
of listening to a jukebox play anything from the Stones to NIN to
everything and anything in between and knowing most of it is something
taht I find very cool. Music is music. Plain and simple. People
may play it different ways, but most of it is very cool or at least
somewhat cool ;) Except for country of course :)

Yit-C-Jam is how I see it.

Kevin Moore has cancer, why do I have to doubt that one.
Just cuz someone shaves their head doesn't mean they have cancer,
or else I would be real worried about all the members of KMFDM ;)

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Malibu: Meet at Roy's sounds good. I was thinking that maybe some of
the Suffolk County people might wanna meet somewhere, my place would
be fine with me. I'm in Kings Park. If anyone out there wants to do
    something like that, mail me.

As for aftershow, sounds good to me, but no bars unless you can be under
21 and still get in. Remember that a lot of us are still not legal :)

Well, I guess that's it for now

Hey fellow Jammers! Nature was in alliance with Dream Theater just the other day! I was listening to ACOS, and there was a thunderstorm outside. DT should've sampled some rain in a few parts of ACOS. It sounds cool! Right where the very first line "I remember a time....", right when that part came in there was a small bit of thunder and it was THE COOLEST THING!!!! And around the begining of Seize the Day, it started to rain it that was so cool. If there's ever a storm where you're at, quickly put on ACOS and check it out for yourself. Ben

    Dear jammers,

Hey there! Do any of you have a ytsejam with a transcription of John Petrucci's response to Blind Melon? I know it exists because I sent it to the jam, but now I can't find it anywhere. I want to put it in my web page, but I need a copy of it. I think it's somewhere in the early 900's, I think somewhere from 910 to 940? If any of you guys can help, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

    Yours, Jeff =)

In ytsejam 1061, some alleged person pretends to know more about rock music than most people because he "took a class." Well, butt wipe, you may read about rock music, but some of us were there as it was happening!

I take real offense to little ass wipes like you that think you know it all because you read about it in a book. I realize it's not your fault that you weren't born until 1974, but unless you were there as it was happening you have no fucking clue as to what was going on.

Music in the mid seventies was shit, with a few exceptions. Dicso was strangling music. everywhere you turned there was some Travolta wanna be dancing to the Bee-gee's. Just when it seemed that rock and roll was dead, along came bands like the sex pistols, ramones, dead boys, fear, germs, x, and many others and brought excitement back to rock and roll. Sure, most of the bands didn't know how to play their instruments, but it was the attitude that made it great. But you wouldn't know about that because you were still shitting in your diaper back then. Why don't you just go back and put on your blind meloon and candlebox cd's.

Next time, think before you start hammering on your keyboard.

Regarding Bafu Vai's comment about women and guitar....

    I AM OFFENDED!

I found that to be a rather sexist and stereotypical comment. I realize that perhaps this wasn't your original intention, but that's how it was broadcast over the net...

I've been playing guitar for 5 years now, and while a lot of my training has focused of blues and jazz, I have performed Ozzy and Guns & Roses songs a couple years back at my high school. I also played guitar for my school's production of "Little Shop of Horrors". While this might not seem to be a big thing, there were plenty of other MALE guitarists who my director could have asked.

As for "gentle" music, because women are "less savage"...Hey, I was in the pit area for the DT concert, and it was GREAT! If I was the typified "lady", I wouldn't have made it through the show unbruised and unbroken. Also, I'm taking classical guitar lessons as part of my major, and I HATE it. Not because I hate classical guitar; I believe there's a lot of talent out there. However, I HATE it because it takes away from my time to practice shredding. And, no, my copy of the I&W music _isn't_ merely a decoration for my room.

It may sound as if I'm coming down rather hard on you, but this is the type of stereotyping I've been fighting for the past five years. I'd appreciate it if you'd pay attention to the music world around you (ever heard of Jennifer Batten??)

    > Okay, here's a twist on the top five favorite bands thing. What are the > five bands that you would most like to HANG OUT WITH?

I don't know anything about Dream Theater or Steve Vai, so as much as I like their music, we might not get along. Come to think about it, I don't know anything about any bands other than what I hear on their albums, so I don't know who I'd like to "hang out with." To me, a better question would have been, "What five bands would you most like to JAM with?"

Now, as fun as that would be for me to list, I'm not going to post my five, because there are already enough "top fives" on this list to give David Letterman a heart-attack. (Yes, Nat X did the top fives, but he's not around anymore.)

HOWEVER, I've had a thread in mind for many weeks now, but I've been waiting for all of this "top-five" stuff to die down. They haven't, so I guess it won't hurt to suggest my idea. It has occurred to me that I've only met one other person from this list, Chris Hailey, and I've only talked to two, Jason Giles and Elliott Kim. (Yes, I talked to Hailey when I met him, you know what I mean.)

My idea was, possibly to get to know a bit more about some of you who I'm never going to meet: (behold the first Bafu Vai thread ever) What songs would you say describe you "to a tee?"

Originally I was going to ask, "What DT songs describe you?" But I think it would be more accurate/descriptive/fun to just ask in-general which songs you think could have been written about your life. NO, DON'T PUT YOUR TOP FIVE. Do three or six or twenty. BUT NOT FIVE. I'm not going to begin this thread by posting mine, because unlike a lot of other recent thread-starters, I don't know yet if anyone is interested in following this subject. But I think if it gets rolling we're going to see a lot of DT songs...

    Cadbury Eggs!

    Bafu Vai

p.s. "I'd like to hang out with John Petrucci, because he's not a heterosexual in my world." Even if I did feel this way, I wouldn't post it to a mailing list of 1200 people, because in my opinion that's a pretty fucking tasteless thing to say.

That's a good question. IMO, the metal movement in the 80's probably got started by a combination of Judas Priest (you got another thing comin'), Scorpions (rock you lke a hurricaine) and Iron Maiden (number of the beast). All three bands broke really big around the same time (1982-83), and they definitely set the course of Metal msic for the rest of the decade. That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Ben Flynn asks in anybody is into Shrapnel records? Definitely. My faves from the label are Racer X (saw them live in 1988, Incredible show) and Steeler. If anyone doesn't have this cd, I strongly recommend it. Released in 1983, it features Ron Keel & Yngwie. If you have any questions about Yngwie's talent, the acoustic intro to Hot on Your Heels will blow you away.

That's my .02 worth. Keep on jammin'

Well I wasn't saying that DT are Christians but I myself hope they are. The debate of a band being a Christian band or a band who are Christians is a never ending one and just a matter of personal opinion. Some people criticize Kings X because they don't have enough talk of Christian subjects in their songs. I think it doesn't really matter how much of their content is Christian. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Well since everyone here seems to list the same bands as their favorites, I figure I should list mine because they are different from everyone elses. So here they are in no particular order:

Dream Theater Anthrax Tourniquet (anyone else listened to these guys, Gary Lenaire is an awesome guitar player and Ted Kirkpatrick is one of the best drummers) Pantera-Dimebag is the worlds most dangerous guitarist, I dont' like the lyrics to much though. Anselmo has gone crazy, I think. Precious Death MxPx-a little punk flavor Biohazard- Hardcore at it's best Strongarm-some more hardcore

Well there they are. Very different from what everyone else has been submitting.

Just read on the isca bbs here at uiowa that everyone's favorite "singer" (and urinater) is dead. I'm sure they'll be a zillion posts on this with more details, but several people there backed it up, so I'm happy to believe it.

Guess that sounds kinda sick. Good. I don't give a rats ass about someone who acted the way he did. Maybe a few of his bandmates could follow along. Go ahead, flame away.

Gee, lemme jump on th bandwagon with a top five list (cause I'm only half as good as Letterman, right?):

Top 5 masturbation techniques Top 5 favorite toilet paper colors Top 5 interesting things I found the last time I vomited Top 5 ingredients in dorm "food"

Seriously, next time someone suggests something like this, could all those participents just mail the respons to that person, rather than all 1200 of us? I think it's interesting the first 50 or so posts, but after that, and the 6th digest for that day, it's a little much. The idea was neat at first but...

Anyone think DT might try out a possible song for the new album at those shows in December? Maybe even give us a rendition of "O Holy Night"? :)

Do you have to buy tix ahead of time, or do you just go there and wait in line? Please post or respond personally.... thanks Marc Lombardi lombarmg@cleo.bc.edu

I don't know if anyone else has already posted this, because I get digest form, or if it's even true, but I was recently logged into the isca bbs (telnet to bbs.isca.uiowa.edu) which has a Rock and Pop message forum, and a couple of people posted that Blind Melon was on tour, and the band members went to wake up Shannon Hoon, the lead singer, and couldn't, and called the police, and it turns out he was dead. I don't know for sure if it's true, but one person posted it and another one or two confirmed it. Sorry that there's no DT content, but it's kinda strange, considering that BM was just being talked about on here. Ross

YES, DT did record YYZ and it can be found on a cd titled "Instrumental II." The only difference is that the tempo is faster.

OH, by the way, the phrase in TTT is not Spanish, it is Italian!!!

Greetings fellow jammers. There is a high school in my hometown that plays only hard rock and heavy metal. It uses the students on the air and plays music that you won't hear anywhere else, (i.e. 'commercial radio station's'.) Some of the bands I have heard in the past are Wargasm, Headlock and Larva. I have searched the record and CD stores all around the Cleveland and Akron Ohio area to no avail. Has anyone ever hear of these bands? If so, E-mail me and tell what you know. Contact me at GHS Rocker@aol.com. Thanks to all for 'listening'. C-ya.

I was just watching MTV. 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Opening comment by Kurt Loder...Shannon Hoone of Blind Melon was found dead today. I wanted to say that I never did like Blind Melon or the comments they made about DT, but I have to say I'm sorry to hear he is dead. Now he'll never know how much his band was disliked by DT fans for the comments they made. Take care, all. G.

    Hello again guys!

Some bad news regarding my proposal for our get-together before the December 27 show at the El 'n Gee. Listen up.

The Dutch Tavern is NOT a family restaurant as I was originally led to believe. They DO serve food, but only around lunch time, which would not help our hunger at 5 p.m. Also, I want the final meeting place to be something like a Denny's where no one would be exclued because of their age. So the Dutch Tavern is OUT. Too many Jammers (myself included) are under 21 for that to make any sense. We can still try to bribe Mike P with a shot of Jager no matter where we go.

So here's the challenge. Everything on my original post will remain true. At 5 p.m. on December 27, we'll all meet in New London and hang out before the show. The question is, WHERE??? Any suggestions or help from other CT people would be great. Once we know this, I'll post the complete meeting info each week, so no one misses it. Later all!
