    Hi to most of you,
sorry if some of this refers to stuff that is old (i.e. more than 3 days), but
we had a problem with routers/servers here, and that meant that I received the
Jams 1057 to 1069 all in one go.

OK, here goes (the subject of my entry only applies to my first 2 comments):

    1. There really are some sick fuckers (profanity more than intentional) on the
Jam. I guess you all know who you are, and what I'm talking about. You
obviously don't have any decency, so there is no point in my trying to shame
you. These comments cannot be excused by youthfulness: they are just plain
and simply tasteless. I feel sorry for you all.

    2. So, we all have to be able to play an instrument in order to be able to
appreciate 'music' (whatever that may be)? That then logically means that we
all have to be Nobel prize-winning authors if we want to read and enjoy books
(damn, there goes another of my favourite past-times) that we must have been
exhibited in the Tate Gallery if we want to appreciate painting and sculpture,
and that we have to beat Pete Sempres if we want to watch tennis on the TV.
Hm, perhaps I misunderstood the ramblings of my old chum Mr. Fibraio (see
various past Jams). Just who does this guy think he is? Is he really that
talented that he can do all of these things? Or is he just another would-be
DT clone? I think we (or I) should be told.

    3. Right, I've spent most of my venom, so now for something completely
different (as Monty Python used to say). It seems that some of you are
not too happy about reading 'my fave 5' lists that are all the same. OK, valid
point. In my entry to the Jam 1056, I asked you to send your lists of most
influential albums. Some people have already replied (thanks, folks) and as
I anticipated, it makes for interesting reading. If anybody else out there would
like to make a contribution, send it either to the Jam or to me directly: I
will collect the results and put them in the Jam some time in the near
    future.

    4. (The DT content). A few weeks ago, I bought a copy of Subconscious, and
after comparing the old and new versions of ACoS (played several times one
after the other) I still prefer the new version.

PS I saw Paradise Lost last night and they were huge!!

    stay safe and happy listening

"Porno for Pyros" on _Porno for Pyros_ by Porno for Pyros
"Tin Machine" on _Tin Machine_ by Tin Machine

Ever heard of Tin Machine? They're good. David Bowie on vocals, but
that's not the best reason to listen. The best reason to listen is
guitarist Reeves Gabrels (of guitar mag fame). I saw them on SNL about
4-5 years ago, and Gabrels absolutely blew me away! I had already bought
their second album, but WOW! Some of the speed fills he did defy
    description.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled 'Jamming, already in
    progress...

My _ticket_ from the Dream Theater show last June at Malibu has it
    spelled incorrectly as "Theatre".

And for the kid who was worried about getting in to see the show because
he's 17....I would worry. If you were going to the Malibu, you would not
get in...They are pretty damn strict. I don't know how it is in NJ.

See ya all at the Malibu show,

    Hello fellow jammers!

Regarding Shannon Hoon's death I would like to say the following. I was
never a big fan of his music and I was kinda mad when his band insulted DT's
music but when I saw some of the posts about his death I was shocked. How can
some people be that cruel. I mean someone has died and you HAVE to show some
type of respect. So Blind Melon bashed DT, but it wasn't even Hoon himself
who did it. So Hoon wasn't the best of human beings, it doesn't matter. I
don't know what type of values some the people on this list have but it just
doesn't fit right here. For those who put up the intelligent posts that make
me stay away from my homework, rock on!

Now that that's outta the way let's get on to some other topics.
Regarding the DT show at Mailbu, I live in Roslyn, NY (the north shore of LI.)
If anyone who lives in a town nearby me and wants to like carpool or
something drop me a line. I have two, possibly three other friends who are
going to the show. Are there any tickets left? There should be. When I went
in June, I bought tickets two days before the show and there were people who
were buying tickets at the door but the prices were higher. About meeting at
Roy's before the show, someone e-mail me how to get there. I keep forgetting
to write it down and I erase Jams after I read them.

        To Aaron Rom:

I would like to discuss some Marillion with you. I'm a big fan of their's
but I only like the stuff with Fish. Brave is the only thing I like so far
from the Hogarth Era. They truly were an underrated band.

I guess I'll jump on the top 5 bands bandwagon and say my top 5 band
    besides DT in particular order:

        1) Rush
        2) U2
        3) King Crimson
        4) Marillion
        5) Live

That's about it from here. Later jammers!

    Message-ID: <Pine.OSF.3.91.951024121709.26573C-100000@beta.loyno.edu>

I've been a fairly active participant on the list since I joined
recently. Well, I'm REALLY behind on the list, now. My HARD DRIVE crashed!
So if I respond to anything that's old, just ignore it instead of flaming me.

Also, King Lerxt from K.L.C.C., I know you read this list, so I figure
this is the best way to let you know (I lost your E-mail address). The HD
crash means that Avalon Space Station BBS is probably GONE. I don't know
if the backups will work, but I should be getting a new HD by Wednesday.
Remove my system from your subscriber lists for now until I get the BBS
back up. However, it will NOT go back up under the name Avalon Space
Station. It will be Castle Sengir (Mike should recodnize this name <G>).

Now, for some minimal DT content: A little less than two years ago, a BBS
set up a Dream Theater discussion forum on WWIV-based networks. I was a
DT fan, so I subscribed, thus I had the DT forum on my BBS (Avalon Space
Station). I also decided to host my own forum for Queensryche. K.L.C.C.
subscribed to both. Then, the host for the DT forum went down, so I took
over as the host. I now hosted a pair of forums for DT and Queensryche.
Since pretty much the same systems subscribed to both and conversations
often overlapped, I combined the two forums and added Fates Warning to the
subject. The forum was now Queensryche/Dream Theater/Fates Warning. Then
my computer crapped out on me. My BBS was down for so long that I was
removed from one of the networks (WWIVnet). King Lerxt then took over as
host of the QR/DT/FW forum, at least in WWIVnet. I subscribed to the
forum through another network, TerraNET. So, now we co-host the sub in
    various WWIV-BBS based networks.

Maybe this doesn't concern most people here. Maybe some of you are
interested to know that King Lerxt and I have heavy DT content on our
BBS's. Well, I DID. I've lost nearly everything, though. Hopefully, I can
get Castle Sengir up by Halloween. Actually, that's not a bad date to
open the BBS since the theme will be spooky (vampires). Of course it
will STILL contain the Queensryche, Dream Theater, and Fates Warning
    forum.

Now, I've got one last thing to talk about before I go and read all those
'jams I'm backed up on. Has everyone heard that Shannon Hoon (lead singer
for Blind Melon) has DIED? He died Saturday night or Friday night (I
can't remember). I was on the local news because Blind Melon were in New
Orleans for a concert when Shannon was found DEAD on St. Charles Ave.!
Now the freaky thing is that I go to Loyla University, which is ON St.
Charles, but since it happened on the weekend, I was at home in Metairie
(a suburb of N.O.). When I saw the news, I was freaking SHOCKED. And the
thing that ran through my mind was, "Enraged Dream Theater fan?" <G>
Actually, they said the cause of death was unknown at the time. So he may
have died of a drug OD or something. If anyone has more info, please let
me know. This freaked me out. We were JUST talking about Blind Melon on
    this list.

A LOT of freaky stuff has been going on lately. Shannon Hoon dies on
Friday or Sat. night on the street where I got to school. My hard drive
crashes on Friday. My friend's HD crashed YESTERDAY (and he's the one I
    bought mine from).

I apologize for the minimal DT content. I needed someplace to rant and my
    own BBS is dead. <G>

    Paul
    aka Nathan Dayspring
aka Baron Sengir (yes I'll be changing my alias here after my BBS goes
                      back up)

Someone sent a jam a few days ago about Queensryche 'I am I',
wanting to get the single. I am not sure what version they were
             asking about.
             (I am in the UK)
I went into my record store 'The Rock Box' on Saturday (still no
             date for DT's 'Perfect Strangers').
There is a single CD of 'I am I' there, it is in a card case and
says there are 5 band pictures in it. It was not expensive (though
CDs are dearer in UK than US), but I did not buy it as I was not
sure if it was the right one.

What I did buy though, thinking someone may want it, though I
don't know if those in the US know it exists anyway, is a set of
two Queensryche single CDs. Both have 'Bridge' on and the rest of
the tracks are from a concert the band did at The Astoria in
             London October 20th 1994.

             CD1: Damaged
                  The Killing words
                  The Lady wore Black

             CD2: Silent Lucidity
                  My Empty Room
                  Real world

These fit in to one double CD case and there are 5 pictures of the
             band live.

I would like to send this to someone in the US as it is good to
have the dollars (cash) (to send to Michael Bahr of course), I'll
remember the STAMP next time Michael.

So if anyone would like it then please mail me direct. If more
than one person calls then I will return to the shop to see if
they have any more (they always seem to replace the 'Lie' I buy
             there).

The 2 CDs cost me 4 pounds and 98 pence and I estimate the postage
would be 1 pound 76 pence. That would come to about 11 dollars.

I noted a few people asking about OPERATION: REVOLUTION since they either
erased their copy of the jam, or heard about it in passing. I'm gonna
include a copy of the original missive along with some info about calling
    MTV.

Give eMpTyV a piece of your mind!!

OPERATION: REVOLUTION is an e-mail campaign to let MTV know what we think!!

On Halloween Day (October 31, of course) we're joining together to protest the programming policies of MTV. Some of our beef includes:

    - not enough ROCK videos - too many gameshows - Cancellation of "HEADBANGERS BALL" - not enough ROCK videos

Let's e-mail our beef to MTV!!! Tell them what you'd like to see. Tell them what you don't like to see. Tell them why you channel-surf past MTV. Tell them why you watch MTV. But remember these things:

    1) OPERATION: REVOLUTION is huge, and we must keep things legit to be taken seriously. Only one letter per person, please.

    2) Profane, vulgar, or derogatory letters will only hurt our cause. We should keep our letters clean & specific.

On HALLOWEEN DAY, please join the rest of us and send your letters & requests for the return of Headbanger's Ball and/or ROCK videos to:

    mtvmail@aol.com -or- feedback@mtv.com -or- mtvnews@mtv.com

Please send letters to only one of these addresses. (Refer to #1 above.)

The overall volume of mail is important. SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR FRIENDS. If you can, get them to write in, too.

*** REMEMBER: Halloween is THE day for OPERATION: REVOLUTION ***

Let's make a real statement with this mailing campaign.

    -----end included message-----

    -----begin included message-----

IN ADDITION to writing in on Halloween Day, OPERATION: REVOLUTION has grown to include a plan to bombard MTV's "Most Wanted" show with a radical request.

To signify the group where this benevolent movement started, (and for simplicity's sake), we have decided to call in to MTV en-masse and request one song: Queensryche's "Anybody Listening?"

This song was selected to send a message to eMpTyV. This song was selected because it isn't too new (and trendy), isn't too old (and overplayed), and it has a specific message. And again, in requesting this song, we honor the newsgroup where this grand movement started.

** When to do it? Call in on Halloween Day, starting around 5:30-6PM, Eastern Time** *** the PHONE NUMBER: 1-800-DIAL-MTV *** ** The song to request: Queensryche's "Anybody Listening?" **

This call-in is NOT a replacement for the originally planned write-in. It IS a significant part of a one-two-punch combination.

Feel free to call in everyday for the remainder of the week, too. But remember to CALL IN ON HALLOWEEN DAY!

**** Remember to write in on Halloween day!!! We WILL make a difference!

Vaishnav at Emory University OPERATION: REVOLUTION continues! We want *OUR* MTV!! Please call your favorite radio-stations, DJ's, maybe even local TV stations. Let them know what OPERATION: REVOLUTION is all about. Perhaps you might be able to enlist their help in our endeavour... This is perhaps the largest, organized, internet write-in campaign ever. WE WANT TO ROCK! And we are doing something really widespread and proactive about it. Make O:R news on the street, not just news on the net! Get your favorite ROCK/METAL stations on the OPERATION: REVOLUTION bandwagon! We WILL make a difference! Peace, MICK P.S. No!! :) Just kidding.... I have no objection.

I don't think it was a case of ripping

I'm not sure, but isn't that the part in Learning to Live where K. James sings in the middle of the instrumental?

    Dear Ytse-jammers,

Hey there, this is Mike Portnoy! I have something to say. It isn't right to bash on someone who just passed on, no matter how s/he behaved in the past. A living person has died. Please have respect for those who are no longer with us. Thank you Ytse-jammers! You guys rock!

May he rest in peace, Shannon Hoon.

    Dear jammers,

Hey there! What did you think of what Mike Portnoy had to say? This proves that someone can easily pose as anyone else on the internet. It is easy to send fake mail (so that means I can take on the identity of ANY ONE of you!). Be careful about the e-mail out ther guys.

    Yours, Jeff =)

Just got my copies of Acoustic Dreams (#210 and #211 - though I ordered out of sequence) all the way down here in New Zealand (with both cases cracked, but hey, they're cheap and the CDs were just fine). Anyone who has not yet ordered this is an absolute idiot, and if I had a bit more cash spare I'd grab a few more copies as an investment! The sound is as clear as anything I've heard - definitely live as there are some harsh tones every so often, but the mix is crisp and clear. A big congrats on the cover and inlay - superb quality. Great to see that New Zealand gets a mention in there! Mike, many thanks, you've done a superb job - definitely no complaints from down here. And the rest of you - buy it now for $25 'cause later it's going to cost you $125.

Just wondering if anyone has written to the address that is supposed to be JOhn Petrucci. The address contained "rena@..." which is his wife's name , correct? If it IS really him, please don't bomb him with a million messages, it would really turn him off and he would have no way to read 1200 messages saying "YOU ARE GOD!!!" :)

    Thanks
