well, me and my friend jonathat drove by number's in houston on friday
night, where blind melon played their last show before the singer died.
we were thinking about stopping and spray painting the tour bus with a
majesty symbol or something (well at least i was) :) so i hope it wasnt
the negative thoughts that i threw his way. oh well.

btw, the place, "numbers", that they played their last gig at is only
two blocks down the street from the tower theater, featured in the
    live in tokyo video.

really pisses me off...the tower theater is turning into a video rental
store. it was one of my favorite venues, and was the place that i first
saw king's x and galactic cowboys, as well as the place i saw dream theater
play at 3 times. it will be missed...

I have only two words to describe my feelings about Shannon Hoon's
"untimely" (whatever the hell THAT means) death. So what. I can describe
everything I ever knew about the man and his music in one word. Banal.
Let's get back to something that moves me. Dream Theater's music.

By the way, I simply don't care that he's dead not because his bandmates
are narrow minded cretins when it comes to opinions concerning artistic
ability, but rather because I JUST DON'T CARE. His death neither amuses nor
saddens me. He's no one of consequence on this list. Let's move on.

My last words. Hairball, I'm behind you on the =) thing. Why should
the dead get a moment of silence? Fuck the dead! Let's have a moment of
muffled conversation for those who were treated and released. (George
    Carlin reference.)

                                      :)

But seriously folks, having a little respect for the living is a more
pressing issue than respecting the dead. Let's face it, SH is worm
food. Let's get back to the band members that we LIKE.

    Slainte mhath,
    Bracken

    P.S. If I offended anyone, I guess that's the breaks. I didn't intend
    to, but I'm not sorry.

How about this for something "intellectually stimulating:"

There has been a thread going around that DT uses a lot of Christian
symbolism. However, they also use some very pagan symbolism also, the
reference to Cassandra for example. How does the justaposition of the Pagan
with the Christian make DT's music more powerful or does it detract from it?

I have a comment on the symbolism of the burning heart (I'm looking at the
Live at the Marquee CD). I liked the connection to the Trinity made by
several jammers. However, both the heart(wooden) and the barbed wire are man
made, suggesting artificiality, and implying that religions are man made and
that our current religious beliefs will be transformed(fire is a symbol of
transformation) into something we cannot yet imagine by the music.

He was irresponsible, not immoral. I have to admit, that I used to
occasionally use drugs, but now that I am married and have a child, I chose
not to. Not because I think that drugs are evil, but because I know that
they are dangerous and that my family depends on my being there.
    1. Shannon Hoon knew the dangers of drugs (how can anybody not know with all
the advertising and educating going on?)

    2. Shannon Hoon knew that he had a family (at least a child according to the
    above report).

    3. Shannon Hoon did drugs anyway.

    4. Shannon Hoon's family pays the price.

He put his pleasure over the wellfare of his child; that is what should make
you fucking sick. He had a choice. His child did not choose to be without a
daddy. I have no remorse for the guy, but I feel deeply for his child.

It is ironic that his death happened when we were doing alot of Melon bashing.

Yeah, yeah, this has probably been done before, but I'm new here, so cut
me some slack. I just thought it would be interesting if we all posted a
little bit of biographical info about ourselves. You know, see who's out
    there. So, here goes:

    I'm a 23-y-o male. I'm from Rockville Centre, LI, NY. I'm a Master's
Degree student at UVM in Computer Science. I've been playing bass for
about 8 years, and acoustic guitar for about 3.

Any other interesting facts we should include? Oh, yeah...

I'll be at the Malibu on 12/28!!!!!!!!

occurs in a country (namely Italy) in which it is legal to do so. In the USA,
it is permissible to sell used import CDs only if they are labeled as such.
This is such a CD. Be aware that the various powers-that-be are collecting
    nothing for this.
    ============================================================================

Of course, that's all cover-my-butt lawyerspeak. I hope you all will
want to be a part of this. I make roughly minimum wage doing it, so you know
I'm not out to scam you. In all humility, I appeal to anyone who might not
think too kindly of my endeavor, and ask that they might give me the benefit
of the doubt on this one. Friends? :)

    2. What is Cygnus?
    3. What is When Dream And Today Unite?
    4. What is the release schedule?
    5. How can I get my own copy of one of these CDs?
    6. Orders received for Acoustic Dreams and When Dream and Today Unite.
    ============================================================================

    1. What is Acoustic Dreams?

Hi all! Allow me to introduce myself, if you aren't familiar with me
yet. I'm Mike Bahr, humble maker of special-edition CDs. I noticed a lot of
the mass-manufactured bootleg offerings were spiralling quite high in price
and yet offered little for the die-hard fan, and I concocted a scheme by
which I could make around minimum wage by producing CDs on my own, CDs that
would fill the demand for REAL rarities and special songs, unreleased items,
    live shows, and the like.

Basically, since no CD plant will print them for me, I have to rent
studio and equipment time and do it myself. So far, it's working. :)

Fortunately, and for this I am very relieved, my Subconscious CD
has been incredibly well-received by the net community, especially the
Ytsejam mailing list. I just do what I can do and leave the rest up to God,
and I guess the Almighty isn't disappointing you folks. People from all walks
of life, all countries of the world, both sexes, all races, and all religions
have joined in on the Subconscious and Cygnus projects, and I am very happy
to have you all along for the ride. I'll keep making CDs as long as you folks
are willing to keep buying them. Thanks so _very_ much... :)

And now, I have Acoustic Dreams on tap.

Well, this is the current CD I've made, also known as Dream Theater
Unplugged. We were given a VERY high-quality soundboard tape of DT's recent
Unplugged performance in Europe, and it can only be fully expressed in the
form of a CD. Trust me. :) I am fervently hoping that the finished product
    is well-liked.

                    Acoustic Dreams
            1. Another Day
            2. Lifting Shadows off a Dream
            3. Wait For Sleep
            4. The Silent Man
            5. Lie (boogie version)
            6. Tears (Rush cover)
            7. O Holy Night

                    Electric Extras
            8. Perfect Strangers (with Bruce Dickinson on vocals)
            9. 6:00 (performed in session with a much better mix)
           10. Caught In A Web (another better performance)

                    Bonus Tracks (acoustic)
           11. Voices (just a small part of it was all there was) acoustic
           12. Bad (U2 cover) acoustic

I hope that once you've heard it, you will, like me, have your
breath taken away by the beauty of the acoustic tracks and the clarity and
    sharpness of the electric mixes.

Note: The CD says "Majesty" and not "Dream Theater" on it. This is
for legal reasons. Majesty was DT's original name anyway. It may not be
    current, but it works.

    2. What is Cygnus?

It is a Rush recording from the mystical Hemispheres tour of 1978.
I still have some copies available. It was recorded from a soundboard reel
and the quality is comparable to that of Electric Ladyland '74. It's full
stereo and the bass and vocals are very clear, the effects very defined, but
the drum sound has heard better days. It's still better than 99% of all the
Rush shows on tape, I can attest to that specifically. :)

            Track listing:

            1. Anthem
            2. A Passage to Bangkok
            3. By-Tor and the Snow Dog ->
                    i. At the Tobes of Hades
                    ii. Across the Styx
                    iii. Of the Battle
            4. Xanadu
            5. Something For Nothing (glitch at end, missing nearly nothing)
            6. The Trees
            7. Cygnus X-1 (dropout at end, missing last 16 secs before bells)
            8. Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres
                    i. Prelude
                    ii. Apollo
                    iii. Dionysus
iv. Armageddon (dropout at end, missing ~40 secs of closing)
                    v. Cygnus
                    vi. The Sphere
            9. Circumstances
           10. A Farewell to Kings

The dropouts aren't a big deal really, but in the interest of
honesty I am pointing them out. They were on the master reel. Also, like
Subconscious and Acoustic Dreams, this CD does not bear the name "Rush".
It says "Cygnus" on the label and lists cover credits. Don't be fooled; it's
Rush, just like the others are DT. It's for legal reasons. Before Italy
started making boots in 1991, all US vinyl boots were the same way.

    3. What is When Dream and Today Unite?

This work, still in production, contains all the songs from When
Dream and Day Unite, only performed live with James LaBrie at the helm. It
should be released around Christmas. Here's the tracklisting:

            1. A Fortune In Lies
            2. Status Seeker
            3. Ytsejam
            4. Another Hand/The Killing Hand
            5. Light Fuse and Get Away
            6. Mission Impossible
            7. Afterlife
            8. The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun
            9. Only A Matter Of Time
           10. March of the Tyrant
           11. To Live Forever
           12. Moon Bubbles

Most of those will be separate like that, but Mission Impossible and
March of the Tyrant are short so they may not be divided. We'll see. I'll
try to make it as listenable as possible... after all, who ever listens to
the first part of a medley and not the second... etc.

I've already begun accepting early orders for this, if you don't mind
the wait. The details on ordering are below.

    4. What is the release schedule?

Here is the current schedule of releases as I see it (all dates estimated):

Dream Theater "When Dream and Today Unite"
To be released 12/25/1995 - Limited print of either 500 or 1000.
Contains the songs from Dream and Day only with James LaBrie on
vocals. Collected from MANY sources and optimized for quality.

Dream Theater "Scenes From a Memory"
Details TBA - Limited print of 500 copies.
Each copy will be hand signed/numbered for authenticity.
This could wind up being any of four or five different shows or song
collections, as there are a few soundboard tapes I'm working on to
try and get a good sound out of them.
Public Affection "The Death of a Dictionary"
            Details TBA - Unlimited print
Is actually +Live+'s little-known first album, released in 1989,
two years before their 1991 breakthrough Mental Jewelry. Demand for
this one is skyrocketing, and the Jam gets first shot at it. The
only thing stopping it right at the moment is the overwhelming
demand for the DT discs and the lack of manpower on my end.

The following are all "Work in Progress" releases...
Rush other titles I'm considering (for any of the given shows):
Land's Edge, Storm World, Lifeforce, Arena of the Ancients...
Rush "A Symptom of Life" - from 12/20/81 2nd gen soundboard
Contains a LOT of neat stuff. a LOT. But very long... 2 CD set?
Rush "Concordant Crossroads" - from 3/24/81 audience MASTER in stereo
This one has unbelievable good sound quality. It's a tossup whether
to take this or Symptom, since both are so good but so similar.
Rush "Sleight of Mind" - from a remastered 6/25/75 Toronto
This tour has been very underrepresented in available material, so
who knows, if S.H.'s cleanup efforts turn out good...
+Live+ "Disenchanting Discourse" - from a 10/25/94 audience MASTER in stereo
It might be released, it might not, depending on many things. If you
would like to see it released, please let me know and let as many
people know as you can. I tend to find ways to release things when
I find an overwhelming demand for them. :) I also have an audience
DAT from 8/8/95, which is pretty damn good. I may synthesize the two
shows to get all the "Rare" songs onto the CD. (Freaks, Supernatural,
            Breakin' Up, Jewelry songs, etc.)
Type O-Negative "Deathgrip" - from a 5/30/94 audience MASTER in stereo
A great setlist and decent sound. Only my worries about how many
copies I can sell prevent this. I can't undertake anything less than
a potential sellout project or I risk going under. Again, if this is
a title you'd like to see, you can make it happen. All I need is a
lot of interest, and away we go! So far I've had a few positive
replies... much much more are needed though.
Dream Theater... oh who knows, there's so much good stuff.
            Possible shows:
                    Osaka soundboard from late 1992
                    Hamburg soundboard from spring 1993
various excellent DATs recorded in Texas

    5. How can I order a copy of one of these CDs?

As stated before, I'm already shipping the CDs by and by. I ship
orders in the order I received your checks, so those of you who sent your
mail around when ordering began, those will be the first CDs out the
door. I usually get a couple dozen a day into the mail. Be sure to correct
this against the release schedule... e.g. I'm caught up on Cygnus so those
will turn around fast. Acoustic Dreams is still in a queue and I'm crankin
those out as fast as possible. WDATU is still in pre-order and won't ship
until the end of December anyhow.

Feel free to e-mail me to reserve a copy for you, so that your mail
will have a copy allocated to it already (and not be a victim of "no-more-
disc-syndrome"). I've still got more available.

The numbering, excepting special requests when possible, will fill
in the order I receive the mail orders. It's only fair after all. I'll
reserve a copy for someone over e-mail, but if thirty people get their
orders in before he or she does, it's not fair for me to still hold copy
#014 or whatever. You all get the idea... these decisions are just in the
effort to make it fair for all.

Please, I stress to all of you, don't miss these if you missed
Subconscious. It really does pain me to have to tell a fellow DT fan that
there simply aren't any more Sub discs to be had, especially because I would
be MORE than glad to sell one if I had it.

The pricing for all the CDs so far is as follows ($2 discount for
Cygnus if you're on the Jam.)

            Base cost: $25.00 US
            Additional postage USA free
Additional postage Canada / Mex $1.00 US
Additional postage Scandinavia $3.00 US *
            Additional postage Europe $4.00 US
            Additional postage Japan $5.00 US
            Additional postage Aus/NZ/etc. $5.00 US

            * Scandinavia includes Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark. For some
reason postal rates are lower than for mainland Europe or the UK.

Postal rates were changed, but the postage cost MUST ONLY BE PAID
ONCE. If you live in Europe and you order 4 discs, the cost is $104.00 US
($25.00 x 4, plus $4.00 postage) and not $116.00 US. Thus, if you have
friends who want copies, I am more than willing to help you out. :) So no
matter how many CDs you want, only add the postage cost Once.

Things are pretty simple from here. Send along a money order for
$25 bucks to my address, being sure to include a note with your name, the
address to ship to, your email address, and WHICH CDs you're ordering so I
know which ones to send you...... and HOW MANY you're ordering. As before,
international customers may use whatever means of payment is most convenient
for them, though I stress that sending cash is risky and should not be a
first option, but a backup plan. :) CHECKS: I don't really mind them, but in
the effort to be seen as a serious and responsible net merchant, I always
recommend the traceable-both-ways Money Order as a preferred form of payment.
So while checks are perfectly OK, they may or may not be the option you
    choose to take.

Please make out checks and money orders to me, Mike Bahr.

The address and so on is me at:

Mike Bahr - Acoustic Dreams (or Cygnus, or WDATU, or whatever)
            3175 N. Price Rd. #1066
            Chandler, AZ 85224

My home telephone number, available as a courtesy to you, is
1-602-777-0501. I am usually not home on weekends (band practice) so try
during the week, between 6pm and 11pm pacific time, for best results. Also,
please use discretion when handling this number, as it is, after all, my own
home phone, and I will be very confused if a stranger calls at 3:00 AM. :)
I trust you Jammers to be cool about it, as you always have in the past.
Also... watch your time zones! I had one fellow calling at 6:00 AM. Owch!

    6. Orders received.

This is NOT "reservations"... it's paid-for orders. If you have a
reservation, it's still valid, trust me. :) These are just the numbers that
are filled. Also there are a handful of "saved numbers" in there.

         Hello Jammers,

I have been reading, but not participating in, the Ytsejam, and this
is my first post to the Jam.

First, A few words. While observing the incredible childishness and
lack of tolerance some of the people on this list choose to exhibit,
If I were a newcomer to the Jam I would say to myself: "Wow. I thought
that the Jam was to talk about Dream Theater, not urinating on
instruments. What if they start bashing on a band that I really like?
Maybe I don't want to be on this kind of list."

This is not to say I agree or disagree with the views of Ytsejammers.
We are all different, like different bands, and obviously have wide
and varied tastes in music. That, my friends, is the Spice Of Life.
The freedom and ability to choose what we want to listen to, when we
want, and where we want makes us who we are. Yes we all have at least
one thing in common. We all salivate over DT. Some of us more that
         others.

But the point I'm trying to make is that so what if one band says
something derogatory or unfounded against another band. That kind of
bashing has been, (and I'm sure will continue to), go on as long as
people listen to different kinds of music. I admit it myself. I can't
say how many times I've slammed Rap music, just because I don't like
it. But I realized that I didn't really know that much about Rap. I
had never listened to it. So, fellow Jammers, I implore you. Let's
stop this band bashing. Nothing productive comes of it (except for
some possible personal gratification, which you can easily do on your
         own time).

As the Jam grows, so will the types of people who join the Ytsejam.
Let's not alienate these newcomers (not to mention current Jammers who
are fans of both DT and BM) before they see what a great DT resource
we have at our disposal. 'Nuff preaching.

Mike Bahr, thanks in advance for Acoustic Dreams. As I said to you
personally, you are providing a great service to Dream Theater fans
who just can't seem to get enough!

Thanks for your eyes. On with the Jam!

         -William Rollo

Hey everyone, I had an idea. Some of you, like me, are getting sick of the
Non-DT content here. Some of you (Like me) don't give a shit about anyone
who would abuse drugs (Including Chris DeGarmo....I summon thee, flames) I
think what we all have in common is that each has his or her own opinion.
The jams are getting filled with silly things like Blind Melon articles from
17 years ago in a guitar magazine. Uh, here's my idea.... If you have
someting IMPORTANT to say, mark the subject *****IMPORTANT******. That way,
when we read the contents, we can see if there is a NEED to read the jam
right away, or save that little nugget for a rainy day. I don't have time to
be reading 63 ytsejam digests a day. I bet many of you agree. Wanna try
    this?

Oh, and GET OVER IT. The Melon thing has passed. Hoon deserves NO SYMPATHY
(in my humble opinion) and I refuse to listen to moral bullies that want to
tell me how to react when an asshole dies. In my book, a quick way to make
the ASSHOLE LIST is to di drugs. That he had a family, puts him right atop
    the list!

                                                                            Thanx

                                                                            Chris

                                                                Bucketbot@aol.com

Oh, and here comes that inevitable blank waste of space. I'm still waiting
for a fellow aol user to help me with this one. Until one does, I guess I
    waste more space. Sorry.

First of all I would like to comment on the comments of others:

    Hairball-
Well I wouldn't agree with your bold comments 100%, but like
you said everyone doesn't agree with eachother. Wouldn't the world be a
bland and boring place if everyone agreed with eachother? I find myself
not weeping about the death of the BM guy. But I am not happy he is dead.
I am happy that their is one less person in the world promoting the drug
scene. I DON'T HATE PEOPLE I HATE THEIR LIFESTYLES! But you made the
comment of dieing being a good thing, because this world is so rotten. I
can't agree with this at all. I love this life-why because this is the
only one we will every have here on Earth! Just because the world is
screwed up it doesn't have to effect you! Live your own life and have a
blast. Drugs, crime, and sin can be avoided while have fun. I believe
death is a thing to be fearful of. But I don't live my life in fear,
because I know what lies ahead. I think that everyone getting on your
case is a load of crap. This is America and we do have
freedom of speech, so continue on with your comments. No one else has the
balls to express what they really feel.

    Matt-
I agree with you-If DT were to use drugs I would be right there
with you kicking their asses and helping them get their lives straight. I
can't see how anyone would be stupid enough to take drugs. It amazes me
how damn stupid people in this world are.

Also one last comment-Let us not forget the recent death of Jerry Garcia.
He fits in with Cobain and Hoon also. He was a promoter of the drug scene
and was an overall negative influece on people, especially the youth.

Seems even the Man (John Petrucci) offers his word on the death
of the lead Melon. I guess rena@cyberspace.org, real or not, must be his
wife's account. I want to retract a bit of my first statement in response
to that news... I should have waited a bit before offering my final
review of BM's music. Putting it in the same post as his death sort of
    tarnished the moment.

            On to other things.

You should see (or have seen) soon or shortly, a full CD update,
the first in a while. Sorry about the delay there folks. Those single
posts will from now on update you on all available CDs. Thanks to
everyone who has helped make Acoustic Dreams a runaway success the likes
of which even Subconscious dosen't compare! It's sold more CDs in less
time than the others by a long shot.

Enough Top 5 lists, please, folks. I liked 'em too, but they're
like maggots. One is interesting, but a thousand will gnaw you to the bone.

I got a chance to hear, and hope one day to possess a copy or
perhaps release, the demo version fo Learning to Live. I never thought
this song could be done more beautifully. The guitar solo after the
Whooah Oooah Ohaaaaaaa! part is overlaid with a triple vocal harmony that
brings tears to the eyes and reverberates the soul. I'm surprised they
didn't put it in the final song.

As of recently, the songs that stir within my mind are Eleven's
"Why", Tori Amos' "Upside Down", Rush's "Making Memories", and Fates
Warning's "Circles". Just something to check out if you like.

Saw Seven as many Jammers recommended. Shit!! I thought I would
have nightmares for sure, but I got lucky. Holy shit, that was one
intensely disturbing movie. Definitely a keeper when the laserdisc is
released in the spring. I hope Braveheart is out by then as well! :) I
couldn't believe that ending... seemed almost unreal. The thing was, I
remembered having to read all those books in high school and college, and
didn't remember the maniacal appeal. Ah well.

I plan on visiting Disneyland and Magic Mountain when I vacation
to LA for the Portnoy shows in November. Anything I should know or see?
Anything to avoid? Anyone want to come along?

Dream Theater: Live at the Marquee had some outtake songs that I
have managed to get copies of (thanks SA) and I think i will include on
Antiquities, if there's no objection. They are UAGM and Ytsejam.

Rush/DT/Disney parallel... I was watching The Little Mermaid on
the old laser player the other day and the haunting melody that Ariel
sings (the base melody to Part Of Your World, you know... ah-ah-ahhhh
    ah-ah-ahhhhhhh, ah-ah-ah-, ah-ah-a-a-aaaaaahhhh) Is from either a Rush or
DT song, but I'm not sure which!! I don't think it was a case of ripping
off or copying in either case, but that melody was like deja vu... I
_totally_ remember hearing it in synth or guitar format. Something to
look for, anyway. For those who haven't seen TLM yet, quit using excuses
like "but I don't have a daughter" and just SEE it. It's a kick. It's
also a case of good filmmaking... something rare these days.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
