Hmm. Sounds like you're contradicting yourself, Kyle. The duality
of good and evil is by definition a duality. As to why goodness
is not praised, I personally feel that it's harder to represent
joy, hope, and happiness in art than it is to represent the darker
    aspects of life.

There are some religions that believe that there are three sides:
good, bad, and neutral. Other religions downplay the dualism.
Examples include any religion which states that you can't understand
    what the Divine thinks/does.

Ars est ars. QED. Comparing groups is like asking "Which is more
red--the flavor of pears or the smell of pears?" If the art speaks
to you, it speaks. If it makes you hurl...

Hey all: (NDTC, long and potentially boring) This is my second time attempting to post this to the list, so I'm hoping that my school's system decides not to freeze again.

    >I read in November's 'GUITAR' - (with Joe Satriani on the cover >- and transcription for his 'Luminous Flesh Giants' inside) - >that STEVE VAI will be supporting BON-JOVI on their US tour !!! YES!!! Well, my input on this comes from the fact that I LIKE Bon Jovi. (So don't slam them or you'll hurt my feelings!) They play with REAL feeling (instead of that "fake" feeling stuff that someone mentioned in the DT/NIN debate :) and are probably one of the last great 80s bands around, as I believe Bafu Vai had stated (did you?). And, from those numerous Top 5 polls, a few 'Jammers believe that Richie Sambora and Tico Torres are great musicians, on the guitar and the drums, respectively. Anyway, I attended their concert on Sept 29th at the Great Western Forum in L.A. They were decent (no they weren't!...I was sooooo pissed that they didn't play "I'll Be There For You") and the sound was pretty good for an indoor venue (I prefer outdoor, ie Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, or club...bet- ter sound). But the main beef was the opening band...DOG-STAR. Now if you don't know who Dog-Star is, don't worry, your not missing much. But for the curious, D-S is Keanu Reeve's band. He plays bass, and there sound is like the Goo-Goo Dolls on coffee -- BTW, I really enjoy the GGDs -- kinda edgy and jumpy and you just wish they wouldn't have downed that third cup. The GGDs are awesome, but these guys sucked. All of the songs sounded the same, everything was turned up was too loud (massive distortion to the point of muddled garbage) and no enjoyment was to be had (except for those high school girls on the floor who were screaming so loud that nobody could hear Keanu's post speech...whew!). Anyway, the gist of this long, round-about post is that I am thrilled that Steve Vai is touring with Bon Jovi...I just wish he would have decided to do so a month ago. It would have saved me the anguish of trying to buy a shirt while a few hundred other people were doing the same in the attempt to escape Dog-Star. The only cool thing about them was that I talked with this guy infront of me between the songs. We both agreed that we we did not hold 3-chord bands in very high regard, so I started informing him about Dream Theater. He had heard of the "popular" prog bands like Rush, Yes, ELP, etc, but not DT. Well, I beefed them up enough that I believe he decided to go check them out the next day. Chalk one up for me. One last reminder...to all of you who happen to be going to a concert where the band is not quite as technical as DT...do not, I repeat DO NOT listen to DT that whole day of the concert. It has the potential of ruining it for you. ("Man, I wish they were DT...") 'Til next time...

jam 1086, paul cashman wrote thusly...

    >their lives for the better, all by themselves. This guy needs to >read ATLAS SHRUGGED, the most dangerous publication of the twentieth >century. (John Myung did. :))

agreed, man. although i really liked the fountainhead better.

i'm curious as to how many people on the list are into ayn rand... what with all the rush fans and college students and armchair philosophers out there (i've already talked to one... brandon). i'm sure rand threads must have popped up before on the jam... and this whole nin/dt discussion, which i'm sure many of you are sick of, is nevertheless a good opportunity to get deep. something i've been waiting for.

(and to lassaude and miller, who wrote that the nin/dt thread has only 2 viewpoints, this is dedicated to you, buds)

the differences between the bands goes further than who can write the better song (by what standard?) or who is more honest (by what standard?) or who has the better thematic content to their songs (by what standard?). it even goes beyond the 2 bands themselves, and goes right for the root of the conflict... the opposing philosophies behind the 2 schools of thought.

ayn rand defines art as "a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgements." the issue here has to do with methods of artistic evaluation of one's surroundings and the integration of that evaluation, and its implications, into aspects of one's actions art is a physical manifestation of one's metaphysics for others to respond to (or not respond to), a creative summation of one's conceptual estimations, a communication medium for one's philosophical outlook on life.

neither nine inch nails nor dream theater offer an "escape from reality" (as dayspring said)-- it offers the lyricists' "selective re-creation of reality"; there's a distinctive difference. this becomes very telling in regards to the psyches of the respective lyricists in question.

trent reznor's lyrical imagery describes a world of pain... anguish... internal torment... nihilism... and this created a problem for me because reznor's musical and technical ability (production-wise) is nothing short of brilliant in its conceptual context; so how could i reconcile listening to his music when his message was so diametrically opposed to my philosophy? the key lies in how he presents it (and he's not entirely consistent in this regard): if he portrayed all this suffering as being a good thing, as being something to be proud of, then he would truly be a nihilist, a hater of life, and would not be in my cd collection. however, he always presents the suffering as something to escape-- all the lyrics that come to mind describe some unnamed person's struggle or ordeal or even defeat (sometimes in first person, sometimes not)-- but never is that condition presented as being beautiful-- or absolute. if it was, then we'd have serious cause for alarm. happiness in slavery, hurt, something i can never have... enraged, agonized, but never put on a pedestal.

and then there's the anomaly in the nin song catalog-- "a warm place." i read in an interview with reznor that he put that on the downward spiral to remind people that there is "something else," or words to that effect (i forget the exact quote). i love that song.

as for dream theater, well, i don't want to delve into the same area or i'd have this jam to myself. suffice it to say that the varying viewpoints of the band members offer not an escape (as i said earlier), but a view. the way we respond to that view (or reznor's view) is shaped by our individual value-judgements and ethical integrity. it has nothing to do with which is objectively better-- but of course some people will like one more than another, even from song to song. opinions are certainly valid when thought out and supported, at least to oneself-- knee-jerk estimations really aren't, and it's pretty obvious when that's the case. especially on the jam.

as for the music... for me it's just a matter of aesthetics. i've always been more into graphic design than art, and i tend to respond to art and music more from the aesthetic point of view than from any particular emotion it evokes in me. i'll appreciate the technical proficiency of portnoy's drumming or trent's song structure or michelangelo's use of color and anatomical style... but most of the time the awe at the achievement in and of itself is all i feel-- and that's nothing insignificant. but there are songs that send me straight into emotional response (such as sdv or "a warm place").

    one more thing.

it disturbed me to see, in an earlier jam, that someone responded to one of the points of the initial nin/dt post with something to the effect that "everybody's reality is different." ouch, subjectivism. this view is prevalent enough nowadays, especially here in college, to make me seriously afraid for the future, when the people with these attitudes come into political power.

*perceptions* of reality are different, but reality itself is independent of how one views it. plato's allegory of the den? a crock. a tree falls in an empty forest? of course it makes a sound. "you can twist perceptions/ reality won't budge," (show don't tell, you know who).

reality is objective (and so is morality, and ethics, and justice).

you might see it differently, but that doesn't make it right.

how do we decide what's right? ethics.

i'm getting off-subject, so i'll just leave that thread dangling in midair.

i'll wrap this up with one more quote from ayn rand pertaining to the artistic differences between nin and dt--

"... consider two statues of man: one as a Greek god, the other as a deformed medieval monstrosity. Both are metaphysical estimates of man; both are projections of the artist's view of man's nature; both are concretized representations of the philosophy of their respective cultures." [from the romantic manifesto]

    you dig?

    scott.

..if you don't like the way the Ytsejam is going lately.

I haven't posted in a while, mainly because the "rejoicing in the death of a person" and "complaining of the content of most jams" and the "boasting about how busy you are that you can't read all your mail" topics have just soured me on the whole list situation. You all don't know how many times I typed a bitter, flame-ridden message only to hit <f>orget it because I thought, "Who am I to yell at these people. That makes me the same as them." But the list has come back to its usual thoughtful self lately, so I shall now return. <And it's good to be back!>

Mike <who started the DT vs. NIN thread>: I must say that for me, you have saved this list. Your initial message, along with many of those that followed, have had me hanging on every word and really READING--instead of skimming as had become my custom. Thank you.

Having said that, I find Dream Theater to be infinitely more "honest" than NIN. I don't know how old NIN fans are, but the appeal of Trent's music seems to be the the brooding, perpetually depressed moods he evokes. Moods that are so common among adolescents <the "Gen-X"ers>. It's a cycle: the media <which incl. NIN's music> says that the world is a horrible, dishonest, evil place. These kids like the music because they agree that the world IS like that. Why do they think that? Because their music tells them to. Sure, they see on the news that horrible things happen in the world, but they can't relate to that because of the apathy that I will discuss next. :)

I totally agree about why gen-X kids are the way they are--about how their parents give them no attention for either good or bad behavior. This apathy makes them feel that they are worthless, but it instills in them the same apathy toward everything else but their own desires. Yes, the parents are the cause. This is not their fault. They make mistakes, as has already been said. The problem is when the kids believe that the world is a constant <ie: constantly bad place> and that they are subject to it. These kids believe they can do nothing and are doomed to drown in their own problems. Why do they believe that? Trent Reznor. Adolescents struggle to find identity. They find it in their idols. Their idols' causes become their own. Their idols' views become their own. Even the view that we cannot change; we cannot transcend.

But we can change. We have freewill. We are not subject to the world--the world is subject to us. "Seasons change and so can I." "Find all you need in your mind if you TAKE THE TIME." Taking the time is key, and in the 3 min, 30 sec world of pop culture, generation X has lost the attention span neccessary to examine their own lives and problems.

My point <surprise, I have one!> is that I find Dream Theater more honest than Nine Inch Nails because they <DT> present the positive WITH the negative. NIN usually presents the negative separately from the positive. I believe that the world is not dominantly positive or negative, despite what the media will have you believe. I believe that we can transform our own lives. We can keep the dead "alive" with our memories <even though I'll be gone...>. We can transcend. Adolescence is hard. What can get you through it? I don't know. I will admit that I am not as familiar with NIN's music as I am with DT's. This is because when I listen to NIN, I don't like what I hear, but I also don't agree with what it says. This is saying nothing about TRez's musicianship. I respect his ability to do what he does in the studio. He is a unique individual, but when I hear his music I hear the kids at the mall and am saddened to think that these ideas are coming from a grown man. I think I pity Trent Reznor, but I don't know because I don't know enough about him. I like Dream Theater because I can relate to it in MY life. Yes, once I was depressed all the time, but that was because 1. I was an adolescent and 2. I was wallowing in self-pity. During that time, I saw the world as a bad place of which I did not want to be a part.

Wow, this is long! I better wrap it up!

Mike, I am not attacking your beliefs. I do not know you. I thought your post was very intelligent and well-supported by YOUR truth. Just like the preceding lies were not THE truth--merely MY truth. I was influenced some by your truth, and I hope you can be influenced some by mine. If not, then I agree to disagree. :)

Hi all, I have a couple of questions for those of you who saw the Japanese shows. First of all, I'm wondering if in fact the shows were exactly alike (that is at least the 10/26 and 10/28 shows - haven't seen the setlist for 10/30 yet - that shows probably going on right about now or will in a few hours *sigh*). The 10/26 show was listed as having a bass solo follow after Lie (before Lifting Shadows) whereas the 10/28 show was listed as having an unknown instrumental in that same spot - was it the same thing for both shows or different?

Also (call me a nitpick) I was wondering the follow: do any of the songs segue (blend) into a solo or the solos segue into a song? Example: Puppies on Acid segued into Take the Time and Only a Matter of Time segued into March of the Tyrant (both on the I&W tour). Also, is the drum solo played in the middle of Erotomania (as it was for Ytsejam and CiaW) or was it played between Erotomania and Voices (as it was after the extended TLF)? Am I making sense? Anyone care to fill me in?

In case your wondering why I'm being so exact, I'm compiling a list of all the various setlists that DT has played and I would like it to be as accurate as possible. What this means is that I'm asking everyone of you if you'd be willing to help me out on this - whatever gigs you were at (that you remembered the setlist) or have on tape, I'd love to know what the *exact* setlist is for each. Of course I'd love to hear from Mr. Portnoy :-) since he'd be the foremost authority on such things - hey he's got a DT collection that makes us all jealous (man could you imagine if we had his collection of live shows? WOW!). Anyway, I'd love to hear from any and all of you; for those of you interested, feel free to *privately* e-mail me and if you want, I'll send you the list.

Oh and one last thing: thanx to all for getting the 'jam back on track - though I didn't moan and groan publicly like some, it was disappointing for a while! Thanx again to all!! (Now if we can just bring back some of those who subscribed at the wrong time...) BTW, Ken, how many 'jammers are currently on the list? I'm curious with all the subscribing and unsubscribing going on. C-ya.

On this part I would differ from you. Easter in Christianity is the celebration of the resurection of Christ. So it sounds like to me that:

1.) he doubts Christ was raised from the dead which is a MAJOR doubt when it comes to Christianity.

2.) somewhat aligning myself with you Omar on this, if Christ was never raised from the dead then how could he come back to rapture His church?

I appreciate your insightful and kean commentary on "vocies". When Omar writes, I listen. You can take that as a compliment.

Not flaming you man, I just see this all the time yet no one has mentioned this as a cure for the size of these mailings we get everyday. A LOT of posts just say "Re: Ytsejam ####" in the subject line, unless you are responding to every single message in the jam then get off your butt and type in a subject line that tells us readers what you are writing about!

I personally don't mind the size of the jam. I enjoy reading the cool shit and sometimes the mindless dribble is cool to. When I don't want to read something I just skip over it. But I do have to say, I get annoyed when people can't take the time (no pun intended) to write a subject line.

Hi, world ytsejammers. I'm Atsushi Kawami from Japan.

I'm one of the audience of last night's first show(10/28) in Tokyo (not first in Japan, however, because they played in Osaka three days ago. Their next and last show will be held tomorrow 10/30 in Tokyo). My seat was good(thanks Kaoru) and so I could see all of their performance enough. The show was two and a half hour long.

Though this may be dull repetitive article, I knowingly post set list with detail.

    1. Under a glass moon (begin with Space dye-vest recorded back sounds) 2. The mirror 3. Lie(of cource continuity from previous song) 4. John Myung base solo(continue to next song without interval) 5. Lifting shadows off a dream 6. Cover Medley: The rover (Led Zeppelin) Killers (Iron Maiden) Damage Inc. (Metallica) Heart of the sunrise (Yes) 7. Innocence faded 8. A change of seasons 9. John Petrucci guitar solo 10. Surrounded(intro and outro was rearranged a little) 11. Derek Sherinian keyboard solo 12. Erotomania (including Mike Portnoy drums solo) 13. Voices 14. The silent man(arranged including electric guitar solo) 15. Pull me under

    Encore 1. Perfect strangers(Deep Purple)

Encore 2. Wait for sleep(accoustic guitar arrangement without key) 3. Learning to live

    My comments are...............

It was REALLY REALLY GREAT SHOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably other Japanese ytsejammer may also say same such thing, it is never overstatement than reality. Personally, though it may not be the most "moved" show, it was the most "quality" show I have ever seen. Someone may recognize this show as just additional or collection, but I can assert it was more than that.

Certainly the new performanced their song in Japan was only ACOS, but there were many arrangements and previously unheard instrumental solos, so it was never boring while I've seen their shows many times. As I didn't expect they played "Killers", I was very excited when it began. They played The silent man with electric arrangement. Petrucci played his solo with wow pedal. Of course his solo was cool, but it was funny that during the solo he came close to audience so someone from a wing was stepping on the pedal. The most remarkable thing in regard to arrangement is on Wait for sleep. They played it without key!!! Petrucci played accompaniment on the acoustic guitar. You may not be able to imagine keyless WFS, but it was pretty cool.

The encore was changed from Osaka show, though in Osaka it was Wait for sleep and Perfect strangers. I think it was better that they added Learning to live to their end than to end by other band's song.

I thought their play was perfect when I saw Awake show. But surprisingly they CLEARLY improved than ever. They got accentuation and modulation for expression.

Sorry for getting long post, anyway last night's show was excellent.

    See ya,

P.S. I was glad to see you, Dan. Have a good stay in Japan. :)

Hey! It's been a while, but I've been reading. So... 1)Ivanhoe. Two words. HOLY SHIT!!! I've got a copy of the album coming from a distributor friend of mine. The samples kick ass! The other Ivanhoe site is:

    http://pitel_lnx.ibk.fnt.hvu.nl/~martijn/Music.html

It's a sample prog site. A good bookmark. A little sumthin for everybody.

2)I just initiated the idea in a class I T.A. Instead of people replying messages in the Y-jam, just site the previous post. I you don't like this, just say "See Ytsejam10**, Damian Allis." It's a little cheesy, yes. But, It'll cut down on about 10% of the length (at least) of the posts. I always keep about 3 or 4 posts in my mailbox. W/multiple windows, it's easy to do.

3)I still say that the segue of The Mirror into Lie is amazingly similar to the entire riff of "The Downward Spiral." I've been listening to both bands since they started (PHM and WDADU). I love'em both. And I would think before I EVER accused another musician of not being able to play their instruments. Trent's an AMAZING classical pianist (some poor sap put a sample .wav on the net from a recital) Notice, he plays guitar, keys, drums (most of the beats on TDS are his own on a TAMA), bass and sings (and screams). Further, he does them all better than most "big-name" players who only do one instrument. My dad loves Holdsworth, Henderson, Zappa and Petrucci, but he thinks the riff to Reptile is the greatest thing in the world (that, and I'm Broken by Pantera) I have yet to see anyone accuse Aerosmith of being a bunch of no-talents, when a lot of the stuff they do is very simple (minus the groove factor, which you can't learn anyway).

3)Let's all track down Portnoy's grandmother's account and send her 1200 messages telling her how cool her grandson is.

4)I just about finished transcribing the drum parts to ACOS (I got bored with quantum last week). I plan on posting them on my homepage (when I write my homepage. There's no way in hell I'm going to do the ASCII thing). If anyone gets the chance, I'd love to have someone look it over and give feedback. I'll let ya'll know when.

5)Someone said they got their copies of Subconscious and Acoustic at the same time. Does that mean Mike had a really shitty time with a disgruntled postal staff, or is their something more insidious going on? 6)Are there any bass players in the Syracuse, NY area that are both on this listserve and want to jam? I'm getting antsy not being able to play off of anyone since my old band went it's way.

7)I just heard that Shannon Hoon died.......(I'll respect that a person died, but the fact that it was a suicide doesn't make me respect him as an individual. if you don't know what drugs can do to you with all the stuff we get about it in this society, you're asking for it.).

8)If any member dropped dead tomorrow, I would like to see... Petrucci replaced by - the bastard step-child of Allan Holdsworth and Dimebag Darrell. That guy, or Mike Stern.

Myung- Gary Willis (Tribal Tech. Incredible player.)

Sherinian- Chopin (just to see what would happen) or that guy from Type -O. Not! (It's funnier if you SAY it like Wayne and Garth).

LaBrie- unfortunately, most people seem to think that the singer is the most defining aspect of a band. For most bands, I'd say yes. However, DT can handle themselves with or without accompaniment. My first guess would be to say no singer. Give the boys a little random jamming. If not, I'd love to see Goeff Tate up there. Lost some range in his maturity, but...oohhhhhh.... what a voice. As clean as they come.

Portnoy- a topic near and dear to my heart. First, to give some critique. Rockenfield is a nice guy with some really cool ideas. However....actually.....I just thought about it. He probably would work. Cool. He's a choice. Second, I'd pick...me! Capable or not, I'd love to sit in during the easy parts. Finally. Terry Bozzio. No question. Not only could he play the songs easily, he could even solo with his other hand.

That's it for now. Sorry for the length.

    Damian #8-)=

P.S. I always look forward to Ytsejams. Well constructed or not, there'll always be enough hard-core members to critique someone else's opinion. Adios.

    Hmmmm....

Wouldn't that be cool if DT lyrics didn't really mean anything and the band wrote 'em just to confuse us? On second thought, though, I guess al you philosophical types who spend hours typing posts on the meaning of lyrics wouldn't be to pleased. About my subject? Don't ask. I don't even know. Like I said before, go see "Copycat". It was awesome. But, then again, I haven't seen Seven yet. Did anyone see "The Prophecy"? I thought it was kinda ironic how the guy who played Satan looked just like all the pictures of Jesus that I've ever seen. Speaking of Jesus, he should be in a "Sure" Deodorant commercial. You know, cause he's always got his arms up.

    Hi, Nagai-san,

    > I've been to the first show in Tokyo. It was great! It was exciting! And it was great to see you had enough time to write the set list and post here after the show, ha ha. It was also amazing about 30 ytsejam'ers(including both of us) gathered after the gig, and wandering around Shibuya to find somewhere to drink :-)

I also went and found their staging act and the lighting got far better than the gigs I saw in January.

I went to Music Instrumental Show before the gig, so I found Derek was using the new keyboards at the gig, they are KORG Trinity and Prophecy.

In order to read this post correctly, your physical participation is required. Form two hand puppets with your hands by touching the four longer fingers of each hand to the corresponding thumbs. Good. Now, your left hand is "Ytse," and your right hand is "Jam." Hold them up to your monitor, read the following aloud, and move their mouths accordingly. This works even better if you happen to have two socks on hand(no pun intended), preferably different colors like green and purple.

************************************** Ytse & Jam, Dream Theater Fans, Part I **************************************

Ytse: So, what's up with you today? Jam: Hopefully something other than these damn top five lists... Y: You don't care for them? J: No way. They SUCK! Y: I thought the Vice Presidents one was rather informative. J: Yeah, maybe on this mailing list! I'm over here on AOL! We're in a world of our own! "Zonder" vice presidents! Y: "Zonder?" J: Yeah, it's Dutch for "without." Y: "Zonder," huh... Where have I heard that word? Oh yeah, "Zonder," like Mark Zonder. J: Mark Zonder!! He could kick Mike Portnoy's ass!! Y: What? Where did that come from? J: Who cares WHERE?! He could! He's got much more finesse! And more cymbals! Y: More cymbals? J: YEAH!! Y: Uh-huh. I assume you've never heard of David Weckl. J: Who? Anyway, Zonder could CRUSH Portnoy! Just listen to Portnoy's snare drum! It SUCKS!!! How could he be a good drummer with such a SUCKY snare?! Y: What? It sounds fine to me. J: Sounds like a coffe can! Y: So? Maybe he wanted it to sound that way. J: WRONG AGAIN!! It was Prater's fault, just like with I&W! I say we lynch that money-grabbing producer bastard!! I hated that midi-trigger crap! In fact, I hated that entire ALBUM because of Mike's snare! You ever look up the word "prate" in a dictionary?! Y: You need to take a pill. J: Fuck pills! Y: Must you use such profanity to make a point? DT would never do that. J: Profanity? I'll show you fuckin' profanity! I'm 8,000 fuckin' years old! I was using fuckin' Anglo-Saxon curses back when the fuckin' Anglo-Saxons were shitting in their diapers!! Y: Shitting in their diapers? J: YEAH!! Y: But history shows that they did not have diapers. J: So what?! Imagine James LaBrie in diapers. He'd be screeching even higher than he does now!! If that's possible!! Y: I think his voice is one of the best out there. Easily as good as Geoff Tate's. J: WHAT?! Geoff Tate could kick James LaBrie's ASS!! Y: Are all of your comparisons in terms of who could kick who's ass? J: You're asking that because you're a "thinking" 'jammer, right? Or maybe you just listen to Blind Lemon! Those bastards, they slammed DT in a magazine once!! Y: That's "Blind Melon." And what's wrong with them? J: Wrong? They said something bad about DT!! For that they must pay!! Y: Are you always so belligerent? J: Shannon Hoon died, man! They're ROTTEN Melon now! HA! Y: Death isn't funny. And that's a pretty tasteless thing to say. J: Rotten melons usually ARE pretty tasteless! Y: Ahem. Death isn't funny. J: Oh, but the death of Mike's snare IS funny, huh? Y: I wasn't laughing at Mike's snare. J: Well you should, because it SUCKS!! Y: Uh-huh. Anyway, have you ordered Acoustic Dreams yet? J: Are you kidding? I ordered it five YEARS ago! WHERE THE FUCK IS IT?! Mike Bahr, where's my Acoustic Dreams? WHERE?? Y: Calm, down, it'll arrive. You need to take a pill. J: I told you, FUCK pills! Y: Why do you use that word so often? J: De antwoorden zijn altijd al aanwezig!! Y: What's that supposed to mean? J: The answer is always completely available! Y: Dutch? J: YES!! That cool and wonderful living language known as Dutch! Y: Viable indeed. J: Yeah, VAI-able!! Y: Anyway, why do you always use that word to make a point? J: DT said it, so why can't I? Y: They did not. Besides, you shouldn't take that "everybody's doing it, so why can't we" attitude. You should have your own individual opinions. J: Hey, that's the title of a Cranberries album! You like the Cranberries?! You not a DT fan if you like the fucking Cranberries!! Y: You know that isn't what I meant. DT doesn't use profanity. J: Hello? Mercy Fuck? Mercy FUCK?? What's that? Y: That was just one instance. Besides, they weren't even using it in that random-profanity context. J: Context? There was no context! He said FUCK just because he wanted to! Y: No, there was a reason, lyrically, for saying... That part of the song... Nevermind. J: What? Nevermind? That's a Nirvana album!d You like NIRVANA?! YOU HEATHEN BASTARD!! Ken Bibb, throw him off the list!!! Y: Calm down, it was just a figure of speech. J: I tap my Icy Manipulator! You can't talk! Y: What? Yeah, anyway. Are you going to the Malibu show? J: I'm still waiting for DT to tour the UK! Those bastards forgot about their fans! Y: That's a very iniquitous thing to say. J: What? "Iniquity" isn't a word! Y: Perhaps not in Dutch, but... Nevermi---I mean, forget it. J: Yeah okay sure whatever.
