First, these kinds of messages should never be sent to the list--if you
have a problem with your account, email ytsejam-owner@arastar.com

Second, I already told you how to fix this in Ytsejam 957 on Sep 17.
The relevant part of that post was:

If you followed these instructions and it still does not work, the

I picked up my copy last night. The police showed up at my door an hour later asking me to turn it down! I hate living in a quiet neighborhood!!!

I think we all need to bombard our local rock stations to play their Achillies Last Stand cover. THAT THING ROCKS!!! I couldn't stop playing it. I had to call everyone I knew and play it for them over the phone.

If any band members read this: **PUT THE ZEP MEDLEY INTO YOUR LIVE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**

    Sorry, I'm ok now. : )

    On with the Jam!

Has anybody deciphered the background vocals towards the end of ACOS, in the Crimson Sunset section (the missing lines are noted in {...} ): I sit down with my son Set to see the crimson sunset {........} Many years have come and gone I've lived my life, but now must move on {........} Can't quite make them out... Also, someone posted a literal translation of the Italian sample in TTT and it was very different from what's in the FAQ, etc. It read,"I was blind all the time while I was learning to see." Now, I am just curious which version is "more" correct... And finally, I have received several positive replys about the "thank you" letter to DT for ACOS... So I will begin gathering personal messages shortly... look for another post describing it... +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ | Michael Kizer -- Computer Sciences Corporation (Tucson, AZ) | | mrkizer@ccgate.hac.com (preferred) -or- mkizer@indirect.com | | http://www.indirect.com/www/mkizer/index.htm | | ^--> Check here for the Dream Theater Song Book... | | "It's harder to sit, when everyone else is standing, | | To shake your head as the world just nods away." - echolyn | +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+

Funny thing about their web site. I kept going to Newbury Comics looking for Rush but they didn't have anything. Like two Counterparts, two Roll the Bones and Moving Pictures. So I check their web site and all they have for Rush is Moving Pictures. I drop the buyer a big email about how they should stock Rush and how Rush has >20 albums and they shouldn't limit themselves. Next time I go in, their stocked with Rush. Everything! And it was all $7.88 :D. So I bought what I didn't have.

BTW, If you're in the Boston area and listen to WAAF, they have a web site. If you do listen you've probably heard the guy. The address is (imagine a wicked rocker) W...W...W...DOT...W...A...A...F...DOT...COM. ha ha. He sounds ridiculous but they web site is excellent. http://www.waaf.com

I'm gonna mail 'em and tell them to talk about ACOS.

    Yet more on ACOS.

I recorded it so I can listen in the car (buy another copy. Right. I bought the Lie and Silent Man singles instead :). But I must have recorded it too loud 'cause it distorted in the car. It sounded fine on my stereo at home. Well, I'm re-recording it so I suffered through yet another listen ;).

I still think ACOS RULES!! I love it! I have to listen to the Subcon version again. I'm really getting used to the studio version and I love it.

Partha Mukhopadhyay's interpretation of the lyrics may be right. Interesting. I'm just glad I have the Subcon version.

This isn't a flame to anyone at all, but I find it interesting that people really notice things like the snare sound. That stuff goes right by me. I never really thought WDADU sounded too bad until it was pointed out. Same with Rush - Signals.

Here's an idea though. If we ytsejammers had some influence on getting ACOS recorded then how's about a petition to get a transcription book written? I don't mean some damn guitar tab book or a piano reduction (although that would be better than nothing). I want a real book with real music and ALL the BASS parts! The coolest would be seperate books with all the parts. A drum book would rule (even though I'm gonna rip off some of Portnoy's parts). How about it? Who do we write. We could dedicate a whole jam to a petition and send it to Portnoy (who looks pretty cool on the inside of ACOS - don't you think?). Or everyone could mail responses to me, I'd compile 'em, print 'em out and send it off. Whatever. I'd kill for those bass transcriptions. OK, I wouldn't kill but you know what I mean.

    hi all,

i realized a odd little coincidence with the covers on acos today that i though might intrest some of you. some of you asked if the deep purple version of perfect stranders and other dixie dregs songs kick ass. will, YES. steve mores is the guitares for the dregs and johnp says he is his bigest infulence. here is the coincidence, richey blackmore left deep purple a few years back in the middle of a tour. joe satriani took his place for the tour. and now steve mores is a member of deep purple(along with the dregs and the steve mores band-what a man) and they are working on a new album. i can't wait. talk to you all later

I have noticed a few people asking about what is going to happend with the other songs from the Ronnie Scott's gig. Unfornately, I don't have an answer for that, but... I have the Mind Control bootleg cd which has "Tears" on it. It is not from the Ronnie Scott's show, but is still good. Mind Control is basically the same as Wake Up, except it has acoustic versions of The Silent Man and Tears as bonus tracks. If anyone is interested in a copy, let me know and we can work out a trade of some sort.

Hello Jammers, Well here it is the day after ACoS came out and yes it is incredible. I've listened to it about 20 times already and every time I find a new "favorite part". Also I think that Derek will be a welcomed newcomer to the band. (Although something does seem missing without Kev.) I few ideas for marketing the album (I feel this album.....If done right can break the band wide open....) release one of the covers as a single; (I would do Love Lies Bleeding.....I think it's the most radio friendly song on the album) put another track from the UNcovered set on the B-side. With another song on the B-side all DT fans would purchase the single. (I know I would...I am always itching for new DT stuff) Since single sales never match album sales if each person who bought ACoS bought the single then maybe the radio stations may take notice and start playing the song....(If we all bought the single It would most likely end up in the top 60) Then the idoit drones who buy albums just because the radio plays it will buy the album and DT will finally get the recognition they deserve. This is only my opinion and I welcome others. I firmly belive that once the "Alternative" revoulution dies (my prediction is before next summer) The new revolution will take hold.....and the leaders?........DREAM THEATER!!!!!!!! Can't wait for '96, Ryan Inverso

Hey all, It seems I can't read these 'jams as fast as they are sent these days, so forgive me if any of this seems dated. I got ACoS at Best Buy on Tuesday (I got the SM and Lie singles there, too... great place). I like the added parts, as compared to Subconscious, but I must admit the slower tempo will take some getting used to. I also like the samples from Dead Poet's Society. The covers are great, especially the Big Medley. I think the band made great choices of songs to do. This album will definitely tide me over till next year. How I became a fan... I don't remeber the _first_ time I heard PMU, but I remeber talking to my brother about it the second time I heard it. I thought it was OK (I still think it's OK). However, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard TTT. I was sold after about the first minute. Within a few months of getting I&W, I got WDADU, LiT, and LATM. At that point, DT was starting to edge out Rush as my favorite band (not an easy task, mind you). When I heard AWAKE, the transition was complete.

Thanks for letting me share. Take it easy everyone. Adam

    ACOS rules!!!

How I got into DT: I remember being at a record store and seeing Images and Words by a band called Dream THeater and thinking, wow that is a cool name for a band. A few weeks later I heard this awesome slow song on 98 Rock (Baltimore) during the top 6 at 6. I think I remember hearing Pull Me Under also. So I went to alt.r-n-r.metal and asked about DT. There I was led to alt.r-n-r.metal.progressive. (Up to this point I had thought progressive metal would be like Hurl Jam or Nirvana, around here progressive is considered alternative). Then I had head that DT was coming to Hammerjacks. A guy at work had heard from a friend back at home that DT was the best band around. So we decided that we would go to the concert. About this time the Underground 103.1 (back when it rocked, now it plays crap) had DT as the band of the month and was playing DT a lot. I then decided to find Images and Words, but had a heck of a time finding a place that had it. I eventually did a week before the show. By the time of the show I was hoooked.

All I need to do now is to get my girlfriend to like DT as much as I do. It may be a hard thing to do....

Deep Purples Perfect Strangers is awesome. I recommend people checking it out if they haven't yet.

Oh well, I suppose I need to get back to work:(

This sums up my feelings exactly. I think that most negative responses given in alt.music.rush are due to them expecting R'n'R 92 quality or better since Cygnus was advertised as such. If Mike was more accurate with the description of the sound quality, most people wouldn't be dissapointed. I'm sure Mike did a great job in producing the CD, given the quality of the original tape, but most people probably haven't heard the tape so they didn't know what to expect (myself included). Therefore, Mike, you shouldn't lose sleep over wondering if you did a good job producing the CDs if you are more precise in explaining the sound quality and glitches BEFORE taking orders.

Did you ever find EVE? I was the one that posted that it was on Ed's site. When you posted that it was not, I went to look. Lo, and behold....it was gone! I did have a chance to download it first, though. If you are still interested in it, I could get it to you...somehow. Let me know....

You said it, Beavis. This kicks ass!!

    ##Butt-head mode off##

Everyone has said what I would say about it. It is by far my favorite composition (a little something for everybody). Two Portnoy points: 1)To Chris: I heard a snip of "6:00" from Wake Up!. It was much faster than the album version. On the whole, though, the band does slow the songs down significantly. LiT (Live In Tokyo) is a prime example of this. Even "Metropolis" at the Marquee is almost a chore to play to, as I'm so used to auto-piloting the percussion parts when playing to the album. It's really cool that a band can actually do that (I can't name one that does besides DT). 2)The snare sound: Mike thanks you!! He said at the clinic "I would not even get on the phone with Dave (Prater) until I knew that I'd be using a real snare sound. Needless to say, Mike did NOT find that triggered sound at all to his liking on IaW. ACoS kicks total ass! "Perfect strangers" rocks harder than I've ever heard Deep Purple do it. See y'all! I've got some practicing to do!

Hi from Germany again (at least it's stopped raining)

Now for another "has anybody noticed" story. HAN (new abbreviation folks) that Mike's snare on ACoS sounds a lot like the snare work by Bill Bruford on the older Yes stuff (crisp, sharp, precise). Also that some of Derek's keyboards sound like classic Wakeman/Emerson (like a leslied Hammond, raw and gutsy).

HAN (just so that you all see my creative abbreviation again) that this entry is just like a load of others...

And before I sign off for today, two music tips for all you Jammers. The first is an English band called Threshold. Very DT like: in fact they recently supported DT on a couple of surprise club dates over here. The second tip is Conception from Norway. Same overall direction, but I think somewhat heavier.

    Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)

Reality is a question of perspective; the further you get from the past, the more concrete and plausible it seems - but as you approach the present, it inevitably seems more and more incredible. Suppose yourself in a large cinema, sitting in the back row, and gradually moving up, row by row, until your nose is pressed against the screen. Gradually the stars' faces dissolve into dancing grain; tiny details assume grotesque proportions; the illusion dissolves - or rather, it becomes clear that the illusion itself is reality.

I think this is a great idea that Mike has put forth! Gathering all of those requests to have them record ACoS might have helped bring it about so it's only appropriate that we thank them the same way. It would be a really cool thing to be able to send them a nice thick stack of "thank you" letters. I'll be sending my letter to Mike shortly.

    1) The entire 12th minute of ACoS...I still have a woody! 2) Yes, the vocal harmonies are cool... 3) I love Perfect Strangers....

'Nuff said...I'm sure there is enough ranting without my adding to it any more than I already have.

A lot of people seem to be asking about Dance of Eternity and other cool DT shit. Those of you that live close enough might want to check out a couple of places on L.I. Most notably, there's a store (whose name I FORGOT!) in Kings Park (Kevin's, John's, and John's hometown) that has bunches and bunches of DT stuff. I'll have to ask my drummer (who is also from Kings Park) the name of the place, but e-mail me if you think you'll be getting there soon.

To auzzy@mails.entpe.fr- Would love to get a hold of some Boots(videos and CDs).

I may sound stupid, but where I get the original ACOS. I love the whole new EP, and yes I like the snare. The only real complaint that I had was the vocals sounds vrey weak in the beginning. They dropped below all of the other sounds, it kind of made me mad.

    Hello Jammers,

As of Wednesday, September 20th I am taking over (not forcibly mind you) the Dream Theater album discography. I am just handling the legal one containing singles, albums, EPs, and promotional stuff. I am going to include what I have so far, and I still need intro on the following:

    1. Lie (CD single) 2. The Silent Man (CD single) 3. Caught in a Web (promo) (whoever just wrote about this mail me)

I will be uploading the discog to the digest about once a month, and I will mail it out on request. It will also be found on my WWW page within the next week and I will post the URL when it is up and running. Plus it will still be located at the FTP site at ftp.netcom.com in Dr. Mosh's directory of DT archives.

Please e-mail me at mbacko1@umbc.edu with comments, info, etc and not clutter up the digest. I will put the times of songs for Awake and ACOS over the weekend, please don't mail these to me. <grin>

    Later,

    Mike Backof
