I just got copies of Echolyn's _As the World_ and Savatage's _Edge of
Thorns_ and I like both. So here's the questions:

    1) What other albums does Echolyn have out, if any?
    2) What is Savatage's best album?

BTW, I got EoT in the used CD rack. So I figured I'd check it out.
I wanna know what else people think is good before I drop full price
    on other CD's.

    Michael Burstin:
    >commercial for some movie (I think w/ Denzil Washington) anyway, the
    >music in the background is definatly a song that DT played on the
    >Awake tour before either Mirror or AMBI...

_Devil in a Blue Dress_ is the movie you're probably refering to.
Looks like an film noir detective flick.

    >obtained the full effect--- it was awesome.

Yeah, that was a great show. I was in the front row near the
fence through the whole set right in front of JM.

    Trey Allen:
    >your happy face --> ;)
    >--What the hell is that?? Does he have a deformed eye or something??--

Frank Marotta and Bryan R. Adams:
You can get DOE from cdnow.com. Just telnet to it. Price is steep, but
if you're willing to shell $56 for it, you can get it.

You can get Subconscious from a dub site. Trey Allen just posted it.

    Jason Giles:
    >(1) Mike Bahr's CD-- what is it and what's on it and does anyone know if
    >he has any more?

Which one? Subconscious is only available as a dub from a CD owner
unless you wanna pay $50+ for a copy. Presuming you can find someone
    willing to sell it.

    >(2) 'mercy fuck' -where is this reference? I thought you guys were
    >talking about ACOS lyrics, but I looked and it wasn't there-- am I going
    >blind and need to look again?

    The lines that go:

I'm sick of all you hypocrites
    Holding me at bay
    I don't need your sympathy
To get me through the day.

The original lyric was 'mercy fuck' (or is it mercy, fuck) instead of
    sympathy.

    >(3) how did this list play a role in getting ACOS done? I saw the
    >thankyou in the CD booklet and now all of this talk to thank you letters,
    >just wanted to know what I missed out on!

Twas a letter writing campaign a while back.

Jammers, I have pretty good ears for this stuff. Some of you on the jam have been asking about what they say at the end of carpe diem underneath of the Whoa-ing. After some careful listening, this is what I came up with.

9:27-9:47 lyrics are "preparing for her flight...Good-bye." The lyrics are also spoken underneath the singing.

9:48-9:50 "It's the most awful thing you'll ever hear."

9:52 ?"your mom"? is whispered in the distance.

9:54-9:58 "Will you dearly love her....ask them to leave or otherwise."

10:00 "seize the day" is whispered.

10:02-10:08 "Something happened...?in the heat of the foggy evening?...she was killed."

Anything that is surrounded by ?? is something that I was not totally sure on. "In the heat of the foggy evening" sounds like it is being spoken by an Eastern European Jew with a Yiddish accent. There you have it folks. Now everyone who was or wasnt wondering can know for sure. Later on, Howard

I just caught Tribal Tech last night at a really cool jazz club, and they were just AMAZING!! For all of you jazz/fusion/prog fans out there, if you haven't heard this band, CHECK THEM OUT!! Scott Henderson (guitarist), and Gary Willis (bass) are just incredioble. About thirty five percent of the show was totally improvised, and it was just impressive seeing how they could all read each other sooooo well!! I went w/ a few of my music major friends here at the Univ. of Dayton, and the show, dare I say it, almost was MOre impressive than Steve Morse or Dream Theater (they were all great). If you haven't heard them, CHECK THEM OUT!!!

I'm kind of new here, so excuse my ignorance. People have brought up apart 2 of Metropolis, and mentioned how it should be on the next album. My question is, is this a tune that already exists, or is it something everybody would just like to see? Maybe Metropolis is like Mel Brook's _History of the World, Part I_, there is nor part ii and never will be! (Try explaining that to the girl at the video store!)

Can't believe someone actually posted about Triumph as I was going to make a similar inquiry very soon. Triumph's Allied Forces tour was the first concert I saw way back when (82 or 83 I think) and I have been hooked ever since. If the rest of you have never heard them, give it a listen. Rik Emmett is one of the best guitar players I have ever seen or heard. On the discs, he's great but live, he jsut blows me away.

By the way, I might be getting my hands on a interview/in-studio jam session with DT from back around the I&W timeframe. If there is some interest from others about this, I will post a note to the Jam and let you know if I get it, depends on the radio station guys finding the tape in their vault or whatever. Some DT content after all.

To the person who said that James sounds bad on the cover songs: did we buy the same CD? As far as I can tell (I'm no vocalist, but I appreciate a great singer when I find one) he sounded great!! I'd rather hear him do "Love Lies Bleeding" than Elton. Sure, there are some rough spots, but the guy is only human. If haven't already done so, I would HIGHLY recommend The Dixie Dreggs "Bring 'Em Back Alive." It's absolutely mind-blowing. If you want to explore DT's roots, check them out. Well to day was a good day. Until I came across this little review of ACOS that was so unflattering that I almost cried! It was published in the Arizona State Univerity weekly "entertainment" rag and written by a guy named Jason Fickett. Check it out... but try not to let your emotions get the best of you.:)

----- begenning of article ----- Dream Theater A Change Of Seasons Dream Theater secretes music that is so incredibly cliche you know exactly where it's going on the first listen. The album starts off with a gentle acoustic ditty that past experience tells you is going to degenerate into asinine power chords. And after a minute or two... wow, mom, yet another shade of Metallica! Gradually the song progresses into the progressive category for with DT are famous. For those unaware, progressive music is wanker guitar rock played by pretentious people, usually fronted by a White Snake cum Pavoratti bastard with long hair. Admittedly, all of the members of DT know how to play their instruments, and they do neat tricks with tempo, scales, and all that shit. But the end result is an uninspired and long (the first song is 24 minutes) repetition of a musical form that was thouroughly exhausted by more talented people long ago. The rest of the album removes the thinly veiled attempts at creativity with covers of such incredible artists as Kansas, Depp Purple, and Journey. Possibly the most amazing thing about DT is their ability to pull this all off with a straight face. They are so unfathomably pretentious that it pains me: the photograph on the back cover finds the gentlemen of DT clad all in black, cast in mood lighting, some staring off into the distance pondering the meaning of life while others strike dramatic poses. And the interior art... Enough! I cannot, and will not, dwell on this mierda any longer. They make wanker guitar out of an Elton John song and quote Robert Herrick's "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" on the same album for Christ's sake. ----- end of article -----

There you have it. I assume this Jason Fickett goes to Arizona State University, so you can look up his e-mail address and straighten him out.:) See ya around.
