I was just watching TV (Thursdays are TV night...:) and I saw a
commercial for some movie (I think w/ Denzil Washington) anyway, the
music in the background is definatly a song that DT played on the
Awake tour before either Mirror or AMBI...

CT is great. I got it at the local import store long before
the US version was released (they do have copies of that now
for about $10 less). It does have Guardian, which prompted me
to get ATG, I have everything from that up now. It has a slightly
reworked version of "At Fate's Fingers" although I like the
original better. The song "Circles," though, I think is better
than the two songs on IO that parts of it came from. The only
problem is that PS is underrepresented, but it's still a great
compilation.

He was *really* getting into it on this tour during "Lie."
It definitely got the crowd going in SFO. The whole damn
floor was jumping up and down in unison. Having made my way
to the back from the front by the time the song came on, I
obtained the full effect--- it was awesome.

Chasing Time is a great overview of Fates Warning, and yes it has
Guardian. Here's the tracklist:
1. Monument (from Inside Out)
2. The Apparition (from the Spectre Within)
3. Through Different Eyes (Perfect Symmetry)
4. Point of View (Parallels)
5. Prelude to Ruin (Awaken The Guardian)
6. Quietus (part of the Ivory Gate of Dreams, No Exit)
7. Eye to Eye (Parallels)
8. Guardian (Awaken the Guardian)
9. At Fates Fingers (unreleased instrumental version of At Fates Hands
from Perfect Symmetry)
10. Silent Cries (No Exit)
11. We Only Say Goodbye (remix of the version from Parallels)
12. Damnation (Night on Brocken)
13. Circles (unreleased, sort of a mix of Outside Looking In and Shelter Me)
14. The Eleventh Hour (Parallels)
And for the other guy who asked, the Ivory Gate of Dreams is on No Exit.
I think you can order it through cdnow.com or cdconnection.com...

Sorry, no ACOS review...
Anyway, I got a bunch of catalogs in the mail today. Why they target me
(still unemployed recent college grad.) is beyond me. I had nothing
better to do, so I skimmed thru the stuff. I was barely a few pages into
one, when "luxury fabrics at affordable prices" caught my attn. I was
surprised at what followed:
"Our space-dyed sweater has the new line on luxury in a silk/wool blend..."
So it isn't _the_ ad. for the _vest_ that set the inspiration for th song
that was background music on my answering machine for a while...:)
but, this imported fine garment is available in different colors, prob.
has a satisfaction guarantee, and if you cut off th sleeves--well, there

opened for them at The Edge (is all that correct Jay?). But not since them.

5) I have the list of dub sites for Subconscious and have helped quite a few
people get intouch w/ a dubber (Uhh huh, he said rubber, uhh huh). I have
also been trading boots lately. I think it would be a great idea if we got
together a list of DT boot dubbers. I know that several of you have MANY
MANY boots (Brian Cox) but with a list one could find the closest dubber and
ensure a fast return. Wouldn't it be killer if every subscriber had like
almost all of the boots out there?!?! So if you guys agree, mail me a list
of what you have and I'll keep track of this one too.

and states, "Well your black and white and your mother has just been
killed...you must be one of O.J.'s kids."
7) Hey I don't know to much about how mailing lists work, but I do know
that we sometimes can get off on some pretty big tangents (software,
computers, movies, occupations ect.). I think it would be a great idea if
we could get another (smaller) mailing list going to further pursue many
topics which are brought up but can't really be discussed fully due to the
facts of limited bandwidth, and other people's complaining. Tell me what
you think and how involved it would be (Ken Bibb maybe?).

Hello all!
New guy here. I've been on the list for about a week, and I really enjoy the
thoughts that are being passed around.
First of all, "How I became a DT fan." Some time, probably '92, I was
listening to the only local "Hard Rock" station in Utah, when I happened to
hear an awesome keyboard passage. It was from the middle of Take the Time.
I fell in love with TTT, and requested KBER to play it constantly. The
radio station played it probably 3 more times in the next month before they
went back to glam tunes. I bought IAW and was converted. Then Awake came
out and I loved it even more. Then DT came to town, almost, (Salt Lake City)
and I went and saw them. They blew me away. They didn't miss a note. Myung
& Petrucci were incredible. and I really liked James. Anyway, that's it.
I'd like to put in my two cents on the "DT would rule if they were an
instrumental band" comment from Matt <ms0114e@uhura.cc.rochester.edu>.
I agree...to a point. There are a lot of songs that would be better without
words (like most of Yngwie Malmsteen's--my personal guitar savior), but then
it would be almost impossible for bands to get messages across. Mood is
conveyed as well. I can't imagine SDV without words. As I said before, I
really like James....don't get me wrong.
Also, I agree with Frank Marotta <fmarot01@barney.poly.edu>. I couple of
days ago he wrote about getting more info about "DOE" and "Subconcious". I
haven't heard anything about these. And where can I get "boots?" Please,
anybody, let me know what I'm missing.
Anyway...signing off.
Bryan R. Adams "ORBITMIS@AOL.COM"

I have some burning questions since recently rejoining ytse:
(1) Mike Bahr's CD-- what is it and what's on it and does anyone know if
he has any more?
(2) 'mercy fuck' -where is this reference? I thought you guys were
talking about ACOS lyrics, but I looked and it wasn't there-- am I going
blind and need to look again?
(3) how did this list play a role in getting ACOS done? I saw the
thankyou in the CD booklet and now all of this talk to thank you letters,
just wanted to know what I missed out on!
(4) ACoS is a very impressive track. Just had to throw that in there! ;-)
And, last but not least, some t-shirt info:
----------------------------
Here goes:
The shirts are black 100% pre-shrunk cotton, with the Majesty logo on the
front breast. Underneath it 'ytesejam the internet mailing digest' is written.
On the back there is a large DREAM THEATER logo, with 'let the light surround'
you written in greyish, glow in the dark ink.
The cost is $14 each, domestic shipping included. Foreign shipping is an
additional $4 per item (except Australia and Germany, who add $6 per item).
There is no increase for Canadian orderers.
Sizes are S, M, L, XL, XXL (+$1.00), XXXL (+$1.50). My deadline for orders
is October 15th, 1995. Please send your money, as I plan on ordering by that date, and
having them by the end of October for shipment to all orderers. Send money to

money orders are fine (the non-bouncing kind of check is the only kind
I'll accept. ;-))
Please e-mail me your order, with (1) size, (2) quantity, (3) YOUR SHIPPING

Hi Dan! Ty said they were way behind schedule, unfortunately, so he said to
look for a possible December release if they're "lucky," but January 1996 is
more likely. Since they haven't been working as fast as expected, the fact
that they were nice enough to spare some expensive studio time and invite
everyone within driving distance down to hear some rough mixes and have a
little party really impressed me. :)

I just posted about Kevin's current status a few days ago, but I guess you
missed it?? No, Kevin doesn't have a CD coming out anytime soon because he
doesn't have a record deal yet! He doesn't have a guitarist either, it's
just him on bass/keys/vocals and Mark Zonder on drums so far. (I've e-mailed

Maybe we should put something about this in the YJ subscription introduction

Absolutely! :) My brother was working on some of his own demos about two
years ago in the same studio in Virginia where Dave Matthews cut the demos
that landed his band their major label deal, and he used to just constantly
rave to me over and over again about how great DMB was. I was very impressed
with what he played me even then, but I thought they might be a little _too_
good to be successful with the mainstream public. It's always nice to be
proven wrong about something like that. ;)
DT content: Mike Portnoy thinks Dave Matthews' drummer, Carter Beauford, is
very cool. :) Is it just me or does the guy not only play like but _look_
like Dennis Chambers? ;)

Hey jammers,
I have always been late at everything in life, so it was only
yesterday that I picked up my copy of ACOS. On my first listen, I
recognized the Erotomania keyboard sound. But it's not just the
sound. It's also the rythm that sounds like Erotomania. I think this
is not original, because they already did something similar with
Wait for Sleep in Learning to Live. Something that IS cool, is the
percussion sound of Bombay Vindaloo at about 17:08 in ACOS. And
everybody's right about the snare sound. It is quite annoying.
Sounds like a bucket. Maybe that explains the front cover.
Later!
Wietze.

Yeah, I know how reliable it is (since I edit it).
> Do they change stuff?
Yup. We get info from a variety of sources (record labels, articles,
subscribers, random net.personalities, etc). So some of the dates
are pretty reliable (eg Metal Blade gave them to me) while others
are more questionable (eg things along the lines of "a friend of my
ex-roommate said that he has a friend who met this drunk guy who said
that he knew a roadie for Pink Floyd that says that their new album
will be out late October and that Roger Waters is back with them and
that they've changed labels to IRS records and that they're doing a
club tour of Dallas, Texas this week!").
As I recall, the source for the new DT listing said that the album
would be out in Summer 96 and that July would be "safe". I'll see if I
can find where I got that info.
ACoS just says that they hope to have a release in '96, so that doesn't
help :-/
Myra has been getting info from Elektra and Atlantic, so maybe she'll
be able to confirm...

To unsubscribe from the list send:
unsubscribe ytsejam
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf". If you
have problems unsubbing, send mail to ytsejam-owner@arastar.com.
Don't send your unsub requests to the list since ~1100 of the readers
aren't able to do anything for you.

You can get back issues by sending (in this example, 982):
get ytsejam ytsejam.982
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf". However,
I don't think there's a 982. You can verify its existence by sending:
index ytsejam
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf".

For those interested, there are over 1080 subscribers now--lots of subscribes
since ACoS came out. If someone asks you how to subscribe, *please*
don't send them incorrect info. Send them the subscribe info out of
the FAQ or tell them to send:
subscribe ytsejam Their Name
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf". (This info
is also in the info file which can be retrieved by sending:
info ytsejam
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf".)

Nope--check out the list itself and you'll see the release dates
for "X Factor" and the back catalog.
Besides, Myra and I don't "forget" dates--we include all dates that
we're told about. If we're not told about a date, we can't include
it in the list.
So if you hear about any new release dates, please send your info
to <releases@cs.uwp.edu>. Thanks!

There is no such thing as a "definitive" translation. For example,
your voice teacher's translation is more of a word for word translation,
but "word for word" doesn't work well in translating the feel of a
message. For support of this position, look at any translation
mailing list/newsgroup.
Considering how the phrase is juxtaposed in the song, I agree with those
who translate this to match the lyrics.

If you have an RFC1153 compliant MUA, set it into RFC1153 mode and it
should split the digest into individual articles. Alternatively, you
can use the nn newsreader to do so :)
But what you probably want to see is the following (which is included
in the info file and welcome message that you get when you subscribe):
send:
set ytsejam mail ack
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf".
To go back into digest mode, send:
set ytsejam mail digest
to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf".

They were using 8-bit chars (ie they were using an extended ASCII, probably
on a Mac or PC).

Most people don't know (or care) about the differences between
ASCII and the extended character sets--they just want their posts to
look nice.
MIME handles this situation nicely, but many people aren't using MIME
so that won't help.
If the server software could filter out 8bit posts and put them into
a 7bit format, that would be ideal, but that would require re-writing
the software...

The music store should have it. Otherwise, look in any of the guitar
magazines--the Ibanez ads always have contact information in them.
