I noticed people recently talking about Damn The Machine. I got the album
when I read a review of it in Guitar For The Practicing Musician (GFTPM)
and they compared them to Dream Theater. I see a similarity but not quite
as much as the author suggested.
Anyway, If any of you want a copy of it mail me and let me know I'd be
glad to work something out with you to get you a copy so you can review it
for yourselves.

I would at least like to get copies of the bonus tracks on the
Japanese release of ACoS. That would be fine for me. As long as I could
hear it. Though obtaining an actual copy of the CD would be nice.
Also, looks like I may just have to jet over to the store and pick
up the latest GFtPM. Maybe I'll just read the review, though. I don't
think I really want a picture of two members of the Chilipeppers kissing
each other laying around my house or dorm room :).
See y'all later. God bless you guys. You rule.

Hi all,
There is a few certain information on Japanese version of ACOS. Well, it
will be released on this 10th in Japan certainly and this is all I know
about it. I guess I will be able to post about the tracks or something
special (if there will be) after I get mine.
Dream Theater will perform in Japan this autumn. Confirmed dates are as
follows:
Oct 26th 1995 Osaka (Koseinenkin Hall)
Oct 28th 1995 Tokyo (NHK Hall)
Tickets are now on sale. Perhaps I'll go to both shows.
I have a handbill of these shows with ACOS information, and it says ACOS
Japanese version will be released with an application paper (??) for
limited single which includes 'Tears' from Ronnie Scotts' gig. Only 1000
people will be able to get the Tears CD. But I don't know whether it's
true or not. Personally I think this is very unfair and stupid plan. (I'm
the one who hates like 'bonus track for only Japanese' plan.)
The handbill also has track information of ACOS.
1. A Change of Seasons
I. The Crimson Sunrise
II. Innocence
III. Carpe Diem
IV. The Darkest of Winters'
V. Another World
VI. The Inevitable Summer
VII. The Crimson Sunset
2. Funeral for a Friend - Love Lies Bleeding (Elton John)
3. Perfect Strangers (Deep Purple)
4. The Rover - Achilles Last Stand
- The Song Remains the Same (Led Zeppelin)
5. The Big Medley
I. In the Flesh? (Pink Floyd)
II. Carry on Wayward Son (Kansas)
III. Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
VI. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' (Journey)
V. Cruise Control (Dregs)
VI. Turn It on Again (Genesis)
Well, it's written in Japanese (Katakana), so I'm not confident with
spelling.
When I get other information, I'll post here! :)

Hello,
A quick question about the ACOS EP that is due out in September...
1. How do you get on a list to get a pre-release CD? Do all of you work
for radio stations? Know someone at the record label? I'm just curious.
2. Are the cover tunes live from the Ronnie Scott's gig or are they
studio versions of those tunes?
Thanks.

Hello Jammers,
I am still planning to do a compilation tape of prog-metal for
the Ytsejam list to provide free promotion for unsigned bands who I think
many of you would enjoy and to spread the word about signed bands who are
making great music and need your support. All of the songs on the tape
are favorites of mine, so I am not doing this solely for promotional
purposes. I am having artwork made up for the liners and I am including
information on each band that is included, plus e-mail addresses for
their management, and snail addresses so you can pick up the CDs. I have
talked with some band members on the list and they are for it. I plan to
work on this over the next month and have some ready by the end of the
September as school allows.
Any questions? Please e-mail me.
Later,
Mike

Hello Jammers,
Just a few thoughts and comments:
1. I have found myself listening to a lot of Threshold recently.
Wounded Land is OK, Psychedelicatessen is really cool and I just picked
up the live album Livedelica which is really intense. I think most Dream
Theater fans can't go wrong with Psychedelicatessen or Livedelica, lots
of long songs, interlocking guitar parts (they have two guitarists), good
vocals (they are an English band and the lead singer sings with a bit of
an accent... obviously), the songwriting is pretty good, it should be
great by the time the follow-up to the second album comes out. The
songwriting is a lot better than Shadow Gallery for those who didn't like
them due to writing ability though not quite as good as Dream Theater.
Wounded Land has a lot of environmental lyrics, where Psych. has a lot of
songs about the struggle of the soul and corruption of individuals.
Album info for those who want to order
Title Label Number
Wounded Land Giant Electric Pea 1005
Psychedelicatessen Giant Electric Pea 1014
Livedelica Giant Electric Pea 1015
2. For those who asked, Iluvatar has a new album coming out at the end
of September and they have a release party planned in Baltimore, I can
get info, it is general admission and there is no cover. I was talking
to the lead singer (Glen) about this last Wednesday. The new album is
entitled Childhood and they will be selling it at the premiere. Kinesis
records sells them direct through and mail and Chris at Of Sound Mind
will have them in stock. I can help you contact either of these people.
More to come....

To all Ytsejammers:
This is my first post after a few weeks of initial "voyeurism," so I
hope all goes as it is "supposed" to.
First off I must thank one Mike Bahr for his post in the last 'Jam
which got my own blood pumping. He really knows how to get people to speak,
eh? Just to let you all know where I am coming and going, Mike got my blood
flowing in a positive way.
First off, Mike had said something about "Pull Me Under" in his Top 5
Essential Dream Theater Moments being the reason for why 90% of us listen to
DT. I don't know about the rest of you, but he "hit the nail right between the
eyes" with me. The first time I heard PMU I only caught the tail end and I
thought, "Wow! That was some pretty cool schtuff!" I couldn't wait 'til I
heard it again. The thing that majorly pisses me off nowadays (as well as soon
after radio stations had their fill of all 8 minutes and 11 seconds of it) is
that whenever I hear the song (two days ago on 96.7 KCAL based in Redlands,
CA), the radio stations have a jacked up re-mix that slaps the last two lines
on the song and fade out before the "Dun dun dun" part at the very end. I know
this has probably been bitched about before (like a very looong time ago), but
it irks me every time I hear the stations do that. ARRGGGHHHH!!!!! Pardon me.
Anyway, I was first intro'd to the rest of I&W when a "acquantaince" in
one of my classes made a copy of it for me. He told me, "If you like [PMU] a
lot, then you might not like some of the other songs...they get kinda lame [in
reference to "Another Day" and "Surrounded"]. By the way, I left of a really
wussy song [turned out to be "Wait For Sleep"]. I don't think you'll mind."
Obviously this guy was not a "true" DT fan. ;) All I can really say is y'all
better have your I&W long-boxes framed and mounted on a wall like I do. Those
will DEFINITELY be collector's items someday, if not already.
Two more additions to the "Essential Moments", and these need to be
listened to with headphones for full effect. "Take The Time": start at 6:30
where the slow part starts. you'll feel the build-up around 6:46. "Here it
comes!" at 7:04, then..."Ah!!!" at 7:13. Awesome, simply awesome. The other
one, and I know we ALL know this one, "Voices": "Spider in the window" line at
1:24. That "spider" effect sends shivers up and down my spine!
I know this is getting long, but please bear with me and I promise I
will never let another post get this long. Well, I'll try, at least. ;)
Movies: BraveHeart is THE best. A definite buy on laserdisc. My
friend said she had nightmares after watching "Lord of Illusions". Uh-uh.
Sorry. Ain't nothin' to those moments of insomnia I experienced after watching
3 hours of people getting hacked to death. Hey, this s**t REALLY happened!
Well, most of it, at least. That is the truly scary part. And check out the
score...that, too, was awesome.
Well, I got more, but I will do it in a separate post, 'cuz it is a new
thread will ABSOLUTELY no DT content. Sorry.
Thanks for listening.

I know I owe someone for the paranthsied part in the subject, but I can't
remember who...sorry. BTW, the "A" is for "Absolutely," like I promised.
Anyone ever hear of the group "Voivod"? These guys are truly whacked.
The lead singers vocals are trippy, like a twisted Dave Mustaine lowered one
octave. I think the best "label" for their music is progressive/Canadian/punk/
metal.
For the adventurous: check 'em out. They've been around for awhile,
since '84 or '86. Their old stuff is a little bit too much for me, quite mind-
numbing. But check out "The Outer Limits" on MCA's Mechanic sub-label. It is
all about aliens, space travel, enocunters, take-overs and the like. (Which
reminds me, "We Are NOT Alone".) It is loaded, in the "traditional" progres-
sive motif, with intersting meter changes and mixed moods. One of the best
songs is "Jack Luminous", their 17:26 epic that is actually three songs in one.
It is really jammin'.
It is also loaded with 3-D pix, one per song, and comes with its own
handy-dandy little "Voivod" 3-D glasses.
So, if you have a little extra pocket change (make sure your local
record store has not removed the sticker that says "The outer limit you should
pay for this CD is $10.98" [$5.98 for cassette]...Sam Goody is notorious for
this...they removed the "$11.98" manufacturer's sticker of the Sponge's album
Rotting Pinata and replaced it with their own $15.99 pricetag), check 'em out!
BTW, if there is anybody out there who already knows about Voivod, do
you know where I can pick up their album "Angel Rat"? It is the only CD out of
their 10 years of existence which is "No Longer Produced", even though it was
released in 1991, I believe. Anyone know why?
Well, that's all for now. I am going to look through my CD collection
for other "oldie's" which I can recommend to y'all.
Take it easy, and to all you in Cal, don't let the heat get to you. ;)

Is it a coincidence that it was certain three songs that was left out? I guess not. Before anyone presses the flame button I have to add that when I got the CD I realized that I had made a mistake leaving those songs off my tape. So I hope I still can consider myself a true fan.

Agreed, Braveheart is awesome. Kind of impressive considering that it's only Mr. Gibsons second movie as a director. A movie made for the theatres (especielly the Dream Theater :)

Has anyone noticed that on the Images and Words album the song LTL is written in larger text than the rest of the songs??
Also, I was telneting to CDEUROPE.COM and I searched for some Dream Theater CD's and found that Holland has a version of ACOS all ready out. I have placed orders with CDEUROPE before and have received my order in less than two weeks. I noticed this near the end of August. It may be possible to get a copy of ACOS before it hits here in the US. I'm just going to wait the three weeks though. But for people that can't wait, CDEUROPE.COM has ACOS for $21.95.

i am here. i havent gotten any email from you in a long time. i have been in the process of moving to a new place, (same email though) and i have a new address and phone number, which are both on my web page. i was away from my acct for a couple of weeks, home in houston, but my home number and address are on the web page, also. i never "disappeared".
when i was moving all the tapes i needed to make for people got packed up, and i am slowly unpacking them and gettign them out. there are about 4 or 5 people's i believe. in the future why dont you email me or call me before claiming that i have disappeared??
if you look, i have posted recently to the yj, and i have posted alot to alt.music.dream-theater and alt.rnr.m.p
email me and i will let you know what is up with your tapes...

What gives?<
Today, I just sent him my second e-mail message in two weeks (have yet to receive a reply to the first one, so I'm going with benefit of the doubt and sending another one...) I sent him a batch of blanks in mid-July and haven't received anything yet. :/
Hey, guys, if you're going to be late with something, can you at least send some e-mail? Thanks!
