I don't know if I sent this to the wrong adress, so here I go again just in
case. I just want to know the reason why there are many CDs that are
released in places such as Europe or Japan and are never released in the
US. And why is it that many times when a CD is released in the US as well
as in Europe or Japan, the foreign version always has extra songs? Is this
fair? If anyone knows the answer to any of these questions, please post
    them up. Thanks.

That's enough for today. If you have _any_ more info on when Myung's video
is coming out, please let us know. I want to get it! (just hope he's not
teaching solo technique's. he he. kidding. ;)

One of my favorite moments was always the transition from Afterlife to
TOWHTSTS. That rainy night windshield wipers really sets the mood.

Light Fuse and Get Away is awesome and I love that "I can't see where this
is going" sample. Anyone know what it's from?

Then there's ACOS. So many awesome parts. "Prepare for the fight..." that
bit. The cool part where the guitar switches to a clean sound. I can't
    remember where that is.

Many more, but those are some great moments.

    Hi!

I find DT and prog fans quite rare, as you all do, but I hope I have
    added to our population.

Just a few weeks ago, when I was working doing VB programming, I
brought a tape of my DT stuff to work. The company I worked for has
around 10 - 15 people, and only 3 in my group. I was playing the
music and it stopped... I was playing Solitaire or some silly Windows
game since I had done my work and hadn't received any more
assignments at that time. The lady, a Russian programmer startled me
and said, "How come the music is off?"

I wasn't sure if she was meaning she liked the stuff, so I turned the
tape around. I asked her if she liked the tape and she said "Yes." I
then started introducing her to DT and prog.

Her musical tastes include Phantom of the Opera and some Russian
stuff (I'm not sure if it's folk or rock). I was pretty excited about
that. Now that I'm in university, I don't know what to feed her with.

I just had to let you know.

BTW: I have been seeing DT shirts around Toronto! I saw one on the
subway about half a month ago.

During the Engineering Frosh week at the University of Waterloo, I
saw somebody with his DT shirt. I was around the engineering building
around 9:00 am Tuesday. He disappeared into the A/V office. I think I
recognize his face from the Queensryche concert. If you are on this
    list, pls tell me.

BTW: Frosh was AMAZING!! Can't wait to get back...

I'll stop spewing now... & on with the regular stuff...

    Old Triva Answers: Part Two:

    >>>In The Nice, Keith Emerson was famous for what musical piece which was
    >>>taken from which Broadway musical by which late famous
    >>>composer/conductor? Note: KE still plays this as part of his encore
    >>>medley with ELP.

The piece is, of course, "America" from "West Side Story", Leonard
Bernsteins modern day version of Shakespeare's (and (BOC's) 'Romeo &
Juliet'. Although I don't have any real proof, I believe the basic theme
of 'America' is actually from Dvorak's 'New World Symphony'.

    >>>>>>>Since no one has yet answered this question, I will leave it as a
    >>>>>>>continuing/new triva question:

Which other well-known rockband (not necess. prog) also plays(played) a
piece based on the above mentioned Broadway musical? (hint the original
composer's name was included in the song credits; new hint, the front man
for this band was also a guest on the 'Muppet Show')

    >>>What other group played a song by the same name as that of the above
    >>>mentioned piece by KE/Nice? Although this song has the same name, it
    >>>was compsed by which other contemporary artist? What is the historical
    >>>significance of this song?

Yes did a cover of Paul Simon's "America". This is the first song recorded
by Yes with Rick Wakeman on keys; it first appeared on an Atlantic Records
('The Age of Atlantic', I think it was called) compilation album, and later
was included on Yes' 'Yesterdays' album, which otherwise is a best of Yes'
first two albums (+ some B sides). It was also released in a shortened form
as a b-side. Someone suggested an even closer tie betweeen Yes & West Side
Story: I don't know, but would appreciate the info.

    >>>Who was the other member of The NICE (besides KE, Lee Jackson & Brian
    >>>Davison) and which band did he go to after he left The NICE? Name other
    >>>famous members of this latter band.

The 4th member of The Nice was David O'List, guitarist, who later played
with Roxy Music. Other well known members of Roxy Music include Eddie
Jobson & John Wetton (later UK). The most well known member from Roxy
Music is Brian Eno (Jobson replaced Eno when he left), the well known
artist, producer (U2, etc.) & 'god-father' (along w/ Frank Zappa) of
    progressive/metal rock.

    >>>On which Black Sabbath song(s) did Rick Wakeman play?

Rick Wakeman played keys on Sabbra Cadabra f/ "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"

    >>>New Trivia questions:

What band did Rick Wakeman play with before Yes? What was the complete
original name of that band? Which short-term member of this band also made
a guest appearance on which Led Zepplin song? What band was this person
    most closely associated with?

    >>>Another Yes trivia answer:

The original guitarist for Yes left after the second album, Who is he and
with which Prog/pop band did he record with in early 80's. (Hint: although
they recorded mostly their own songs, they did a cover of another song that
was originally partially done in German.)

Peter Banks was the original Yes' guitarist (not to be confused w/ Tony
Banks, Genesis keys). The band I was looking for was called 'After the
Fire' aka 'ATF'. Although this band mostly did original
'Christian-oriented' material, they are/were best known for their cover of
'Der Kommisuer' (sp?) which I believe was originally done by the German pop
    artist Falco.

    >>>New Yes Trivia question: Which band did Tony Kaye, original Yes' keys,
    >>>go to after he left Yes? With whom did he later record a
    >>>'Christmas'-season song?

Although I have yet to catch up reading the recent JAM's, to answer my own
question: Yes, Derek was a member of Alice Copper's band in 'Wayne's World'
(it says so in the credits at the end of the movie). Unfortunately, he was
the only member of the band NOT to have a reasonably good onstage close-up.
Not to re-open the short/long hair debate, but he appeared to have
reasonably long hair (it was hard to tell; he was mostly back/side-lit in
the background). CAN HE BE IDENTIFIED IN ANY OF THE SCENES OF THE
AFTER-GIG PARTY SEGMENT (We're not worthy) ??? If you can answer please be
    relatively precise. Thanks.

    Well caught up with that.

Well, our Fresno area DT DJ (Jeff Freeman at KRZR 103.7 FM) has played some
stuff from ACOS on-air. For you locals, he can be reached through the

They also have a new Web page:

    okay few things....
    1) Went to musicland, they checked their listings,
ACOS released SEPT 19!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in the KC area)

2)Musicland's not that bad, i got my Lie ad Silent Man
single (rather, I'm going down to get it) there...

3)Worst DT moment- the verse of LFAGA, that was originally
my favorite song, rather the only song i liked on WDADU, now
    it's the only song I don't like

4)best DT moment- listening to I&W all the way through. Not
just in the background, but actively listening, and enjoying every
single second of it...Sounds even better w/ headphones
    That goes for Awake too..

    5)clear bumber stickers---they rule!!

6)Accoustic dreams- Checks in the mail mike, I can't wait!!!

7)WDATU- is the track listing of it the exact same as WDADU, or
    is there some differenceS?

8)I have to admit it...I love rush, but I've only heard them on
the radio, and have yet to hear any of their epics. Can anyone
suggest which rush CD to go out and buy? I wanna hear everyone's
suggestion b4 I go out and buy one...

9)thank you for not quoting the whole digest

10)TLF/Eve are they ever going to release these on a CD?!?!
(besides the Lie and TSM singles)

11)anyone have ANY info on DT's next CD? (besides what was posted
on the last jam..) Any info on songs, etc?

Hello, my fellow DT fans. This is my first post to Ytsejam. I just
received my first issue, and I'm glad I subscribed. I have 2 questions:

First, I saw DT back home (on Long Island) at the Malibu in Lido Beach.
Echolyn and some really boring thrash band opened. Anyway, I have been
hearing rumors that they taped that show to release as a live album. The
show was late July (around the 28th or so). Anyone else heard these rumors?

Second, I saw many of you writing about your most favorite and least
favorite DT moments. My most favorite DT moment is pressing the play
button on the CD player, and my least favorite is having to get up to
switch CD's. As for "the intro to this" or "the riff to that," yes the
songs are complex, but each song is a song unto itself. Each track on
the CD (and, in the case of AMBI, each three tracks) is a DT moment.
Appreciate the song as a song, as a work of the collective genius of four
    Long Islanders (and a Canadian).

    That'll be $0.02, please.

    Hey there all,

I just picked up the latest issue of Guitar World and was reading
"Wild Stringdom" written by John Petrucci. The last paragraph of the
article I found sort of interesting:

"So, far we have only scratched the surface of this exciting
concept. If you want to learn more about how to use open-string voicings
in different progressions and orchestrations, check out my new
instructional video, available on REH Video..."

Does this mean it is out now? I haven't heard anybody mention it on
the list in awhile and was just curious if anybody knew. And for any
other guitarist out there who read Petrucci's articles in GW... how in
the hell am I suppose to get those chords he talked about in the
September issue!!!!! The Cadd9#11 I can get but that freakin' pinky bend
on the Cmaj9 is impossible to hit. Oh well, I guess that's why he gets
    the big bucks huh :-)

    Later,
    Brian

Well, in Europe (at least in Norway), ACOS is already available (I got it September 8th). I've only listened to it once, and there are some pretty cool stuff on it. The title song doesn't really surprise you, it is a typical DT song. The song was written in 1989 and was first meant to be on I&W. DT mention something interesting on the CD-cover, they say that the YtseJammers had some influence on why the CD was produced.

Now, for something else. It is about Kevin Moore. I love Space Dye-vest and after hearing Eve from the single The Silent Man (I think that mr. Moore had something to do with that song, am I right?), I wonder if someone know if he is planning to release something. I know he has produced a demo (I wish I could hear that), but is he working on a CD-release?

    Just one fan's opinion.
