About the Galactic Cowboy's CD, the actual first CD is not what you
think. I was in a stor and bought a CD by a band called Awful Truth. I
bought it because two of the memebers of the band looked very familar.
It turns out that they were two memebers of the galactic cowboys before
they formed to be known as the galactic cowboys. I bought this CD at
(ready for this?!?!) "Everythings a dollar"!! It cost me only $1...

Let me know if you havee this CD too, I really like it.

    Hi guys!
My web page has been completed to a satisfactory state. It is by no means
done. Not by a long shot. But it is up. I mailed it to my friend at around
9:00 Eastern time on 4/3. I don't know when it will be up. The url is
http://www.duke.edu/~mjk5/dajam.html. I would appreciate any feedback any of
you might have. that would be really cool. Also, if there are any of you
that still want in, just email me your pic AND a bio, and we're in business.
    Thanks so much

Neil Gallop wanted to know about Symphony X. All I can tell you is that I
have their disc "Avon Messiah" and if you want a dub, mail me. Also, a
friend of mine who was in contact with the band a few years back said that
Steve Whatever-his-name-is moved to Boston to check out the scene out
there. But I'm not sure you want to quote me, my source may not be
reliable. I don't know if the rest of the band went with him, probably
    not.

    Question-
Who out there is a Phish Phan?? I must say that I enjoy their music
for a couple of reasons. The primary reason is their songwriting. If you
check out "Rift," "You Enjoy Myself," "Divided Sky," "It's Ice," "Stash,"
and other tunes by these guys, you may find yourself thinking "Could these
    guys be considered 'progressive?'
I pretty much want to call them progressive. Their lyrics are NOT
in the same vein of most progressive music (Bag it, tag it, sell it to the
butcher in the store, oh) BUT their music sometimes falls into the grey
area of great musicianship and "progressive-ness."
            What do you all think??
Sometimes, Phish reminds me of some Echolyn, mostly because of the
guitar tones and solos, and especially the vocal harmonies. I don't know
    what else. INPUT!!

Someone asked recently about Rush's trilogies, and no one answered. So,
    here they are:

    "Fear" includes:
o Part I: "The Enemy" on Grace Under Pressure
o Part II: "The Weapon" on Signals
o Part III: "Witch Hunt" on Moving Pictures

    "Gangster of Boats" includes:
o Part IV: "Where's My Thing?" on Roll the Bones
(note: "Leave That Thing Alone" on Counterparts is not part of the trilogy)

    "The Necromancer" includes:
"Into Darkness," "Under the Shadow," and "Return of the Prince," which
appear sequentially (!) on Caress of Steel.

    Hope that helps.

I was reading a review of Magellan's latest "Impending Ascension"
and the reviewer said that the lyrics were sometimes silly. I can almost
agree, but when you think about it, who else has written historical lyrics??
If you've heard Magellan's first one "Hour of Restoration," you know that
they wrote a 13 minute piece based on the Magna Carta, and also wrote a song
about the Union Jack, or that one flag (confederate flag? I slept through a
lot of history class in high school).
Well, quickly I remembered Iron Maiden's great lyrics. "Rime of the
Ancient Mariner" (based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem), The Flight of
Icarus, Alexandar the Great, Mother Russia, To Tame A Land, Stranger in a
Strange Land, etc.... Did anyone slag IM for having historical lyrics?? I
    don't think so.
*SO* why did this one reviewer have such a bone to pick with the
    boys in Magellan??

            What are your views?!??!?

Wow. I can't believe what Howard said about DT. Ripping keys. I'm insulted. I
love Howard. ARGH. That hurts. As a keys player, that is a personal insult.
But then again, that's Howard. To each his own, ...

I resisted getting into this music thread, but I want to say this. I have
learned, from my experience, that piano players have to become virtuosos on
their instruments. With guitar, bass and drums, you can fake it, listen to
most of the music that's out today, and you will understand how you can get
away with being a slacking musician. With a piano, you really can't fake it.
We are forced to become experts. I don't mind, because I feel like I have
more under my belt than most of the alterna-grunge-punk asses who play today.
I am more versatile, cleaner, faster, and just overall better than all of
them. I am not knocking other players, especially those who know technique
and theory and who can really whail and crank, so don't flame, I will
probably ignore it like I ignore most everything else that I don't want to
    hear.

Happy birthday to me, 4/4 turning 22. And still blind as a bat.

surely you are either a musician or you are not. we think the distinction

word "true" misleading. can you be a 'false' musician? as music students
at university we don't believe the degree will make us better musicians.
it is the experience and knowledge gained that will make us better,
however, to get this you do not need to go to uni or any other

into it. after all, the more you put in, the more you get out, and the

Maybe you are right about PC pushing DT more thhan TB. But still, don't you
think Terry pushed Rush? I mean, listen to Fly by Night and then listen to
Moving Pictures and Signals. Same musicians, much different band. I can't
help but think that Brune had something to do with that. Besides, have you
ever heard TB produce a bad sounding album. Before you say Signals, let's
just remember that a good reason why signals sounds more muddy than normal is
because the synths and guitar were sharing the same range, and analog synths
are very thick sounding and they ate up the guitar. (Maybe that's why Signals
is one of my favorite Rush albums). But, overall, I love what Terry does, and
he made Neil's drums sound the best they have ever sounded, IMHO. So melodic.
But I have already said that, so I will shut my blind ass up.

Hapy birthday to me, 4/4 turning 22, and still haven't been signed yet.

    Pat, thanks.

i am not going to say what I think. It doesn't sound too fake, could it be
that it was a coincidence? A bookstore can also deal in cards. Maybe MP did
send it. Although the eastwest.com address and the date do make it
suspicious. but we are always so ready to call something a fake whenever we
hear about something with DT talking to us, probably because we disbelieve so
much. Let's not analyze so much. Maybe it was from him. maybe it wasn't. Who
knows. Let's just take it for what it is and until we get positive
confirmation in any way, let's not speculate.

i will say that I would love to see DT and Rush in the same show, but let's
think about the awesome exposure DT would get touring with Rush. Rush always
sells out venues. Rush has kind of been hurting for a good opening act that
can compliment them. I like Candlebox, but prog fans won't get into them no
matter how psuedo-alternative Rush sounds on their counterparts and later
albums. DT would compliment the boyz well, IMHO. Prog fans could get into
them. IMagine the backlash of DT and Rush. Imagine how it may boost DT's
popularity without having them sell out. ... Imagine if I actually had a damn
    point.

Happy Birthday to me, 4/4 and still single

Dream theater happy meal? My god, what would they include as a toy? The
killing hand? A space dive vest? The silent man? A mirror? What? I am
    intrigued.

well, after the first listen, i was very unimpressed. then i remembered
that i am always unimpressed the first time i hear new DT, no matter what
it is. so i gave myself a day to get used to it, and its out of the
    doghouse.

a crack in the mirror is awesome. i wish it was 5 (or even longer)
minutes instead of 2:35. i guess i'll just have to listen to it twice
before it leads into the mirror, which happened to be the first thing that
irked my about the cd. not the mirror itself, but the lack of lie
afterwards. mirror without lie is like peanut butter without jelly, like
summer without a vacation, like... like... uhh... the jam without bafu!

a great rendition of Tx3, although james goes loopy on two or three
lines. cringing at certain points of live james has become a habit, however.
mists of the evening (i think that's what it's called) is good, and flows
very well after Tx3. Under a Glass Moon is what should be expected. it
is from the marquee show, afterall

ACoS. oooh, high James. imagine the Tx3 demo combined with the
Subconscious ACoS, and that is what this is. if only people had heard
this first, "the offbeaten track" never would have been a mystery. i
think our humble CD maker once commented this demo was the best version
of the song he had ever heard. i can see where he is coming from, but i
still like the Subcon ACoS best. (as a side note, i'm waiting for that
LtL demo to be on a future release, as it too was described as the best
    version)

Don't Look Past Me falls into the realm of status seeker and afterlife.
it just doesn't suit JLB's strengths. he does a decent job, but i think
i might like subcon better. i'm not sure yet. and, i must say, it was
quite odd not to hear that glitch at the very beginning. just plain weird.

stone and arch don't do a whole lot for me, so i won't comment on
metropolis, killing hand or AFiL that much. the music, however, was first
rate. and if you do like arch fates, you should like his audition. i
just thank god he didn't accept the invitation to join DT. afterall,
once you've heard the best, it's hard to listen to the rest.
