members and he does virtually no advertising. When I got set-up, they had
a 2-3 week waiting list for new members to be called back so that they

members the same day or within a few days now, as they have increased

Sorry, I have to agree witht whoever said that it's music if the originator meant it to be music. Can I say that Industrial music is not music
because it is not pleasing to my ear? No. So then the definition must mean pleasing to SOMEONE's ear. But what if there is someone out there
who enjoys the sound of flatulence (like maybe the guy who recorded it)? Then it's music.

Last time, somebody mentioned Robotech. Yeah, I remember it. it was my favourite cartoon many years ago, until some idiot decided to take it off the air just as the Third series was coming to a climax (they were jsut about to invade the Invid's main hive). It totally pissed me off to turn the TV on one day and find Popeye on instead of Robotech (I like Popeye alright, but still). You might want to try out the RPG also (if you haven't already). I haven't played it in years, but can remember it is quite good). Also, thanks for all the info on Savatage. I have been planning on getting DWD sometime, but didn't know what else to check out from them. I may be in the process of converting someone to DT. I've been having some e-mail discussion about Shakespeare w/a screenwriter out in LA, and she's really intrigued by PMU and the Hamlet connection (as well as a number of Maiden songs having to do w/literature). Well, this week has been a great week for me DT wise. On Tuesday, I finally received WDATU (#478) and then yesterday Antiquities (#082)! I thought I'd give my perspective of the lowdown on AQ.
A Crack In The Mirror / The Mirror
I have to agree with Keith Aspinall in that The Mirror without Lie is like peanut butter without jelly. The version of A Crack In The Mirror is a bit different than the version from the 1/24/95 PPV Japan show, and yet it is still just as good. The only complaint about The Mirror is James' vocals. At times, he pulls this deal where it sounds like he's singing with a scrunched face. That's as best as I can describe it. It just sounds...weird. Otherwise, his vocals are great and the band is as tight as ever.
Take The Time / The Mists of Evening
Excellent performance of TTT with its outro, The Mists of Evening, except James pulls that scrunched face deal again when he sings "go back to square one..." It sounds more like "geh beh da squaeh whe"!
Under a Glass Moon
I've never taken the time to appreciate this song, but I think this outtake from LATM has made me appreciate it. It rocks!
A Change of Seasons
If you liked the version of this song on Subconscious, then you'll love this one even more.
Don't Look Past Me
I have to admit, this song sounds MUCH better with James on vocals than Chris Cintron.
Metropolis / The Killing Hand / A Fortune in Lies
IMHO, the vocals in these auditions are too ornamental, meaning that they try doing too much with their voice. Maybe it's just that I'm accustomed to Charlie's and James's studio versions of these songs and I like the way those were recorded. Nonetheless, they are interesting to listen to; to see what Dream Theater _could_ have been.
Well, in the words of Porky Pig, that's all folks! I hope I've given some of you out in Ytsejamland a reason to purchase this CD. Mike Bahr did a great job (once again!) in compiling Antiquities. Definitely worth the $25.

I saw that someone commented on Bob Dylan and his LACK of singing ability. I agree (not that it matters) but his songWRITING is worth a listen. HOWEVER, when the Rolling Stones covered his song Like A Rolling Stone, Mick Jagger shouldn't have been given a harmonica. His playing is absolute crap. They should have taken it away from him and shoved it up his butt. He would have played it better, although it still would have sounded like crap (pun intended).

Yes he was a prodigy, but he most certianly studied the counterpoint of Bach and wrote in his style as an excercise. It was through this study that he learned the principles of harmony and counterpoint, which he then expanded to suit his own creative vision.

Well, I've always wondered about this one. Why are bands so opposed to boots? I think all bands know that pretty much the ONLY people who purchase boots are fans that already have ALL of the bands officially released material -- or are at least well on their way to acquiring it all. I mean -- come on -- if you only like a band enough to get one or two of their records why would you spend $40 on a bootleg that doesn't sound great?
I take the Mike Bahr philosophy towards boots: I think they are ok as long as one already has all (or virtually all) of the band's official material (domestic and import) and the stuff on the boot is stuff that the band hasn't made availible (weird covers of songs, different singers, etc.).
I guess that's one and the same thing, eh? Oh well, that's just my two cents.

Some lists are like that. I was on the Elton John list and the manger of that list is dead set against boots big time. Last week, one person posted that he saw an EJ boot in a store and asked for an opinion on weather the price was too high or not. The manager didn't like him posting that so he kicked him off!
