    Damon, you wrote:

    >Superior to Escape? I don't know. Escape was a killer album, imho. What makes
    >you say such things? I don't even really know what instrument he played, so
    >maybe I am just a fucking idiot, but enlighten me, huh?

Have you listened to Infinity or Evolution? Greg Rollie played keys and sang
some lead vocals (check out the vocal tradeoff with Steve Perry on "Feeling That
Way"). For me, the perfect Journey reunion would have included Greg Rollie.
I'm not saying the Escape is a bad disc; there are some really good cuts on it.
It just seemed to me that after Greg left (following the Departure tour)
Journey lost some of their edge and went for the radio-friendly sounds. I saw
Journey in '80 with Greg, and in '81 with Jon Cain; both were really good shows.
And I'll still probably go to the upcoming tour 'cause Neil can still tear it
    up!

    Just my opinion.

    Dave

This is a very distressing and depressing day. As many of you
probably know, there is a show up here in Canada on MuchMusic called
Power30. It is a terrific show, the only good one left on the music
channel. I had my vcr permanently set on it, and in the last 2 months I
have seen alot of prog, including DT, QRyche, FW, King's X, Savatage, and
TON (I know they aren't prog, but I consider them to be it), as well as my
favorite metal and videos that you usually don't see. (ie. Soundgarden
"Jesus Christ Pose" - amazing video)
Well, I found out today that this show has been CANCELLED. NO!!!
They are replacing it with a new show called "Loud". It was described as
"Loud and aggresive music" This worries me. I'm not sure that this
includes prog, and if it doesn't, I will go downtown with a gun. That
description could possibly even include (God forbid) Green day, offspring,
or crappy bands like this. I am praying that this doesn't happen. Man, this
sucks! My favorite show is gone. The bastards!!!

Because of discussion on the ytsejam, yesterday I bought DWD, my
first Savatage CD. I've only listened to it twice, but I must say my
thoughts. To me, it really sounds like (this is a little weird) where
Operation: Mindcrime meets Les Miserables. Don't ask why, I hear the latter
throughout the whole CD, and strangely enough, it is really cool. That's it.

    Great Day to all!!

    1. FATES WARNING

I can't believe their bassist left. Any reason? That sucks! Now, the band
is going to become the Jim Matheos Band (Kind of like the Parallels CD). I
LOVE Jim, but Fates is a BAND, not a solo project. I hope the new
guitarist, Ray, Mark, and the new bassist ALONG with Jim write one hell of a
    CD. I'm waiting patiently!!

    2. MIKE's CD PRICE POSSIBILITY

I can't be more excited. I've had to pass up quite a few of the CD's thanks
to my struggling economic status, and if the cd's prices lower, I'll be more
apt to dig into my pockets to spend some hard earned dough. I really want
to get a copy of WDATU, and I don't know what the chances of that is. Maybe
I'll just procure a cassette copy of it. Anyone willing to dub it for me??
    (reply privately, please!)

    3. THE RUSH TRIBUTE

Why, dear god, WHY on EARTH is "I think I'm going bald" going to be on the
CD??? That song beats!!! Speed of Love?? What is this?? What about
Hemispheres, La Villa, The Trees, Cygnus x-1, Farewell to Kings, Xanadu, Fly
By night, Natural Science, ALL The other songs that show what Rush is.
C'mon. Even Double Agent, Available Light, ARGH. Well, I guess I'll just
have to wait and see. (If you can't already tell, I'm a large fan of early
Rush, and I DO, believe it or not, understand that the tribute is going to
be all encompassing, and not from just one time period. I still love Presto
and Counterparts (I don't really consider RTB a good album.) NO FLAMES,
    Damn it. just opinion here.

    4. LEVIATHAN

Anyone else know about these guys?? "Deepest Secrets Beneath" is the CD of
theirs that I have. If you know of them, someone reply on the jam, so we
can enlighten the rest of the jammers about 'em.

    5. SPRING HAS SPRUNG.

Here in Madison, WI, the weather was amazing. AND it's gonna get better
tomorrow. I can't wait. I hope everyone else is having good weather.

    Hello everyone,
I just wanted to relate a couple of things that I've been thinking about
    recently.

1.) You have all seen the requests from hopeful subscribers that have been
unfortunately sent to the wrong address. You may remember that I
have agreed to personally contact these people with the correct info
to subscribe (it's the least I can do). These people obviously get
the mailing list's address from somewhere, and some even say "WWW
generated," meaning that they were sent from someone's home page.
My request is this: If you have a home page that includes info on how
to subscribe, please check it to make sure it is correct.

             message: subscribe ytsejam (your name)
             address: ytsejam-request@ax.com
             subject: asdf

2.) With all this crap being sent to the list (spam, IBM mail, long, drawn
-out topics :)) it kind of makes you respect what Ken Bibb did for the
arastar.com list. See, moderation is good when used against the forces
             of evil.

Well, sorry if that bored you, but I thought it was important.

What the.... ? What did they do? Pick the least known songs to cover? Of
course, I'm a huge Rush fan so I like very one of those songs but those
are not the ones I'd pick. How about YYZ, Freewill, Limelight, Working
Man (yeah!), Closer to the Heart, Anthem, Middletown Dreams or
    Territories, Between the Wheels.

Then suddenly I realised that this wasn't the Rush list :/. Anyway, I
don't subscribe to the Rush list so does anyone know the info on how to
    get this tribute album?

The May issue of Live Wire has a review of the E-Nee-Glee??!! show
that was done a while ago. It has a picture of John Petrucci playing.
The writer seemed to love the show and gave it a great review.
He also talked with Portnoy and the article implied
that he was doing 'Limelight' and 'Trees' for the RUSH tribute
            album. Check it out.

Also does anyone know the results of the last BURRN fan pole.

    Hello Jammers,

Well I see that Zach still has the touch... <grin> or was it Peter
    Gabriel....

    Other thoughts:

Mike's new Antiquities CD has a killer version of ACOS... I didn't think
it sounded at all like Michael Jackson was singing, either my ears are
shot from that Anthrax concert two years ago or you guys are deaf!
<grin> I have versions of the opening songs from other tapes, but these
versions are killer. I'd rate Antiquities behind Acoustic Dreams for my
favorite Mike Bahr CD to date. Mike is getting a lot better at the
mixing of the CDs. (Am I the only one who thinks the version of ACOS
from The Dance of Eternity set is better than the version on Subconscious
as far as sound quality, I know they are the same performance). Once
again I'd like to commend Mike for another great effort.

    Later,

    Mike

Ok. Due to the demand on IRC, I have temporarily put a .wav file of Rob
"Ibanez" Barker's instrumental demo. The general concensus is that it
kicks all ass. I'm only going to have it on there for about a week or
so, so go get it now. It's well worth the d/l time. Rob does all the
music himself: guitar, bass, synth, and drum machine. And you all though
    Mike Portnoy was self-indulgent! :)

Please don't link to that URL, because in a week, it's gone. Later all.

    David.

The sound in 6:00 is an organ. At least it sounds like one to me. If that
were a guitar, he wouldn't slide up the keys like he does, but then again, if
it were an organ, he wouldn't pitch bend it. As far as patch names, you're
asking the wrong guy. I think his sounds are his own creation, modified from
some prexisting patches, and in some cases, are made from analog synths
completely from scratch. That's why his sound seems so unique, he creates his
own sounds. If anybody has more information, I'd love to know myself.

Hey, what can I say? I may be blind, but I have senses you sighted bastards
wish you had. Like a better ear and the ability to reply to digests not even
in existence. Fear me. Fear me or die. :)

I have the box set, and Escape, Raised on Radio, and the Greatest Hits. The
first disk of the box set is almost progressive. I can understand your point
about that. But, my first journey album was Escape, and minus most of the
radio hits, which are still good if not poppy, the last song, (forgot the
title) is probably their best work from that album.

wow. It is truely a dark day in music. Not only has mediocrity ruled the
radio and MTV for too long now, but it's infiltrated Canada. What next? Rush
doing an alternative album? Wait, that might have already happened. What
would you call CounterParts? Prog? Sorry, wrong answer. Well composed
alternative music? Maybe. The best alternative I have ever heard. Please, God
in heaven, make Rush's next release progressive. Then I won't totally write
    off the music industry.

I don't know if Greg Bissonette is still playing with Joe, but I know
he's not touring with Satch. I recently went to see Satch, it was either
Johnathan Mover, Jeff Campitelli, or John Cuniberti playing (They all
sound so similar) Anyways, whoever played was pretty good. I wasn't
overly impressed with the drum solo. The drumming was mostly varying
    between fast and slow tempos.

I was Stuart Hamm who I in awe of. (Praise and glory)
He started out with the Star Spangle Banner, then he ripped into some
bass thumping grooves, and finally topped it off with that country stuff.

Greg Bissonette recently played in Richie Kotzen's _Inner Galactic Fusion
Experience_...and it was all good. I raved about this album on the
'jam. If you are interested, I can email you my review on the album.

    Walter.

I think somebody should let this guy in on what goes on here. Unless he knows
if the guys are subscribed, and if they are, why the hell don't they mail me.
I want to get them on my progressive rock show here in Jersey.
