Sorry for this lack of info, but could someone just
mail me and tell me if the Satriani tour is worth seeing or not.
He's comming to Cinci. sometime soon, and I might just want to
check him out, if the show is any good. I don't really even know if
the new album is good, that's how out of touch I am with him at the
present. Thanks

Message-ID: <316CAE5F.1763@umbc.edu>
Hello Jammers,
I just read a jam post in digest 1429 that inspired me to post, that hasn't
happened in a while! <grin>
[The article talked about narrowing of musical tastes towards prog-rock and
metal from the pop/metal in 1990, my apologies, I forgot who posted it]
My musical taste progression started with my mom listening to classic rock
in the 1970s, then I got turned on to pop in the 1980s. (I always listened
to music constantly, ever since I was a little kid, I used to make
compilation tapes off the radio on my Sears portable tape recorder <hi-fi
mono recording <grin>, I used to get real upset when a sibling came into the
room and talked during the recording <grin>>. I then tried to convert my
best friend from a country listener to rock, I eventually won in sixth
grade. I was listening to Chicago, Van Halen, Bryan Adams, Miami Vice
soundtrack, Top Gun soundtrack, Heart, Robert Palmer, Yes, etc... In high
school I listened to a lot of popular classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Rush, The
Who, older Yes, The Doors. Once I got into college I got involved with the
campus radio station and started listening to heavy metal, mostly the more
traditional (Queensryche, Ozzy, Priest, Extreme, Maiden) and I became a huge
Rush fan.
A year or so later I got into prog., I picked up Images and Words,
King Crimson, Yes, Marillion, older Genesis, etc... the list goes on.
By 1994 I had totally turned away from listening to any really popular
music, but a few years later I realized that some of it was pretty cool, I
picked up Phish, Tori Amos, Dave Matthews, Live ... now I will pretty much
listen to anything that appeals to me, I have been picking up some
jazz/fusion and classical disks since that part of my collection was
lacking. Though the majority of today's popular music leaves a bad tastes
in my mouth, some of it is OK regardless of what some of the diehard prog
and metal fans say about popular music sucking merely because it is popular.
So it took me almost 22 years to realize that what is important is
that you enjoy the music and don't give a damn if your neighbor thinks your
wierd or whatever because you like Rush, Tori Amos, Savatage, Yes, echolyn,
The Police, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Live, whatever.
Later,
Mike
P.S. Since I run the DT discography, When Dream and Day Unite has been
released in the USA on the One Way Records label. I have seen copies in a
few stores in the area so it should be out in wide release for those of you
who haven't been able to get the import.

Message-ID: <316CB077.3727@umbc.edu>
Hello Jammers,
[Re: Mark Bredius]
Mark mentioned a Genesis project. There is a 4CD boxed set due out by
Christmas of this year which will contain a disk of early Genesis
rarities, a disk of B-sides from the Trespass, Nursery Crime, Foxtrot,
and Selling England, and a 2CD live version of Lamb. Peter Gabriel has
resung some parts of Lamb for the boxed set to make up for the original
performances imperfections on a few songs. There will also be a couple
of other boxed sets, one from post-Gabriel era with Hackett still in the
band (or up to Genesis S/T) and one covering the Phil pop era. Later
boxed sets may include a video, CD-ROM, and other treats. Anyways,
something to ask Santa Bafu to place under the tree.
Later,
Mike

Since I missed out on the first Tape tree,{ luckily my brother got his
hands on a copy, thanks to a very kind fellow jammer named Heath} I would
love the chance to get a copy of the CT show! I
think the second CT show was longer than the first one (the show I saw,
and I am still bitter about waiting in the freezing cold for 4 hours),
but I don't know what they played for the second show. How about a set
list, even though I'm sure it has been posted in the past, I would
appreciate it.

Subject: Genesis (a coming together) {ytsejam post}
The Genesis news is as follows. For some time they have been planing on
releasing three box sets. Itchy, this is what they are working on. The
first box set will cover the early period of the band to the departure of
Peter Gabriel. The second box set will cover the early Phil Collins
years. And the third will be the 80s, or late Phil Collins years. It is
easy to see, IMHO, that the first box set will be the best. This will
include the best know live recording of "The Lamb Lies Down on
Broadway". What Peter Gabriel is working on now, is something with Steve
Hackett. Peter is redoing the vocals for the song "it" the last song on
"Lamb", since in the live show they got drowned out, and Steve is redoing
some of the guitar parts. Although it my seem these boxes are due for a
early release that is wrong. The first box set will not be out until
around Christmas or early 97. And a year after for each additional box.
So not that I care but the last one might not be out until 1999.
The current state of Genesis is clear, Mike and Tony are working together
to find a new Vocalist. IMHO, and I've followed Genesis for a while, a
band like that just can't pull someone off the street. So don't be
surprised if they pull Peter Gabriel in for a one time only Summer or
Fall tour. If Peter was to do something like this it would be ONE TIME
ONLY. And remeber where ever Peter goes, Steve Hackett follows (as far
as Genesis is concerned). But that still leaves the question of a
drummer, I don't think I can see Chester doing it any help? (And don't
say Bill Bruford)

Well, I am going to give in on the 6:00 sound and say that it does sound like
the distorted guitar from a Korg. But Kev's mono lead synth sound is from a
Roland, definitely. Because Derek uses that same sound in ACOS.
As far as Ensoniq keyboards, I'd loook at their new workstation coming out
soon, the MR. Haven't heard it yet, so I can't say. the k2500s rack is a good
piece of gear, get it and enjoy.

power and when it snows in April in Massachusetts power sometimes
go out and computers stop working.
Updating www.dreamt.org... I'm working on it. Look at:
to see how far I am.
I will (HOPEFULLY PRAY PRAY PRAY) be getting some free time in the near
future, so I will be finishing the updates to dreamt.org, emptying the
damn 1700+ messages in my ytsejam error queue, and doing all kinds of
other stuff that I have been meaning to do for a while now.
That's all for now.

Recently someone asked " What happened to the real Majesty? " Absolutely nothing. The name was owned by a single person, they could not use it because of copyright infringements. DT tried everything to get the guy to relinquish the name to no avail. Hence the reason for the Majesty logo on WDADU. They noticed several problems just as the CD was going to print namely on the CD back it says " Side one and Side two ".

Hi there,
The track listing I gave for the Rush tribute cd is official. I just forgot to mention that all the guys of Shadow Gallery were involved. Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan did 6 tracks together: "La villa strangiato", "Jacob's ladder", "The analog kid", "Working man", "By-Tor and the snow dog" and "The trees". John Petrucci IS SUPPOSED to do the guitar solo of "Jacob's ladder" and James WILL PROBABLY sing "Red barchetta" (on this track, the rythmic is played by the two Sean (Malone and Reinert) of Cynic!).
Derek plays on the Jethro Tull tribute, but he is the only member of DT involved in this disk (release date: June 03, 96)

I'm kind of the official keeper-of-the-tour-dates. :-D The current itinerary is always posted at my web site - http://www.ionet.net/~dstructo/styx.html. It is updated usually twice a day with the latest info. Tell everyone to look there for the latest updates.

In the event of any mishaps, or per chance that everything goes according to plan, any resemblance to actual events, locales, or persons, living or dead is entirely coincidental. Hi all
(warning: this post will have some Dream Theater content - later).
How low will advertising agencies sink? Yesterday, for the first time, I heard Embers Fire by Paradise Lost (great song/great band) on the radio. I grabbed the remote, turned up the volume and - it was the intro to a frigging advert for car stereos. Bastards. But look on the bright side: they could have used Take That instead.
Today I received a copy of the Uncovered show from Ronnie Scott's (thanks Scott) and I have to say it's a shame that the whole show has not been made available (officially) in one form or another. I'm one of the people on the jam who only listen to ACoS when I listen to ACoS (if you know what I mean). If, however, the whole covers set were to be available on CD, I'm sure I would listen to the stuff more often. Anybody else feel the same? Does anybody have a complete set list (is it possibly in the FAQ)?
Today I am suffering from amnesia and deja vue: I think I've forgotten this before.
stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de)
