I was looking at at this and wondering if Surrounded could be
inspired by Oedipus Rex. "Once lost but I was found" Young Oedipus being
abandoned by his parents and being found by the shepard. "When I heard the
stained glass shatter all around me" Oedipus's world crumbling that he is
the cursed one Apollo spoke of because he fullfilled the profesy of killing
his father and marrying his mother (I didn't think that it was possible to
do that and not know it until I read this play)."I sent the spirits
tumbling down the hill"-Oedipus condems and banishes the oracles. "But I
will hold this one on high above me still" Oedipus's one fatal flaw where
he must always seek out the truth, even if it be harmful to him. "She
whispers words to clear my mind" Jocasta (Oedipus's mother and wife)
telling Oedipus that he could not be the killer of Lyuas because Lyuas was
profisized to be killed by her own son which was left to die in the fields.
"I once could see but now at last I'm blind" at the end of the play
Oedipus is banished from from Thebes and he blinds himself.
Just one possibility, any thoughts?

often as I do, you lose. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Loved the Styx tour

All right, jammers. Here's your chance to do your good deed for your lifetime.
I have every intention of going to the con III, since I live in Jersey.
(D-man I would say to put my name down, but there is a bit of a problem).
Well, as most of you know, I am blind and cannot supply my own transportation
to the con. Any of you Jersey people that are going and aren't too afraid of
having my ass in your backseat for an evening, please get in touch with me at
s0067977@hawkmail.monmouth.edu before mid-May, in fact as soon as possible so
that I can work something out with you. Guys, this means a lot to me. I want
to meet DT, because they have inspired me greatly. No other band has done
this except for Rush and Yes. DT is, of course, the only band I have a shot
in hell of meeting unless I get realy famous. I would also like to see if
they want to do a radio interview. (heheheheheh). So, anybody who wants to do
this favor for me, please get in touch at s0067977@hawkmail.monmouth.edu.
Besides, wouldn't you all like to meet me in the flesh, either just for
curiosity's sake, or to kick my ass for cluttering up the jam with useless
bullshit like this post here?

instead of the whole Dark Side of the Moon. It is still a great disk though.

I noticed a few of you were mentioning that you may be interested in
purchasing Ibanez guitars. I posted this a week or so ago when Chad Cook
mentioned the new JP model but I'll post it again. I work at a music
store that is an Ibanez (among many other things) dealer. If you want to
order one I would be willing to beat any of the prices you may have been
quoted. Why am I willing to do this? Well for one I was just promoted to
manager (i.e. I don't work on commission anymore). The second reason
being I like to help out you fellow jammers because who knows when YOU may
have a boot or something that I might be interested in.
We are a store located in Athens,Ohio.....(Ever heard of Jeff Foxworthy?
His humor hits very close to home if you know what I mean.) So the more
guitars like 7 strings and JPm's that I move through the store the more
luck I have getting promotional materials (such as the life size JP poster
hanging in my studio) out of Ibanez. Which means the more quantities I
have the more I would be willing to part with.
If you have any questions or want any info/specs/prices please let me know

I was pondering. If the vocals on Antiquities for the Killing Hand with J.
Arch singing were recorded on a radio (boom box), how come there is a second
track at the end of the song where he sings "I laugh what I have done...".
There is a layer of his voice behind the master track of his voice. This
can't be done on a radio (boom box).
Just wondering.

Well... its not a hint, its just the sad fact that I work too much to even have time to read my email. I get like 500-600 emails a day, mostly from technical mailing lists (portmasters, linux, bsdi, inet-access) and spend alot of time sorting through (read erasing) those. I was working two jobs (UNTIL today) and now have a hell week and then plan on taking a week off, so I should have time to catch up on my life and email and web devel in about a week.

Hellow all,
I think I've heard someone say that Dream Theater has covered Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" sometime in the past. Now would someone of you experts tell me if there's any truth to this? If they have, has the gig/rehearsal/whatever been recorded? If so, on what bootleg it is on? I'd like to hear this since we used to mess around the song back when I played in a band, and I've heard numerous versions of the song. Somehow I think DT's version would "kick serious butt" ((c)JLB 12/29/95). I'm sorry if this has been beaten to death before, but who'll stop me from flogging a dead horse? :P
The other thing. I've been also hunting that Queensryche's San Jose tape. I've been a member of Screaming In Digital for ages but you just can't get this kind of requests to the moderated SID anymore. Any help concerning this tape would be greatly appreciated.

Superior's BEHIND is a great disc! Way back in 'the day', when Bernd asked if anyone'd help with their English translations of the German lyrics - little did I know what a great disc I'd be receiving months later from Bernd! They blew me away! I didn't take out BEHIND for a least three weeks, and it makes a great compliment to DT in the CD changer. PS - Yes, that's me in the "band thank-you's" sec. of the insert! :):) My **FAVORITE** 6 CD's loaded and set to random play: Disc 1 - WDADU Disc 2 - IAW Disc 3 - LaTM Disc 4 - Awake Disc 5 - ACOS Disc 6 - BEHIND (Superior) As if you needed that list - geez! Alone, so alone - I'm lost, consumed by the pain. Pain, pain, pain. Won't you hold me again?! You just laughed, Ha! HA! YOU B*TCH! Todd,
Yes. These bands are fabulous. Let me tell you a good friend of mine played in a Rush tribute band in the Rochester, Poughkeepsie and Ohio areas then 2112 blew into Rochester for some killer performances and my friend said "well, I think that it's time for me to hang up the Rush tribute thing and go to work on my own stuff..."
Now as for the Back Doors, this show is not to be missed. They are another Rochester favorite. The resemblence is uncanny...

I have never heard anyone complain about too many notes, especially young guitar players. There is such a thing, but JP isn't it. I knew this alternative thing was ruining people who would otherwise be great players, but I didn't realize the extent of the damage. (Please don't attack me, we've already had this discussion, as I recall.) As far as Ytsecon, please tell me I'm not the only one who's either too broke or too young to go on his own. Hello everyone, it's BABS. Summer is on it's way to Western New York and some outdoor shows have been announced. Here is a triple-header that everyone should go to:
Foreigner Reo Speedwagon Peter Frampton
Foreigner has been a long-time favorite of mine as well as Reo. I was able to catch Peter Frampton a few years back at the Rochester Downtown Festival Tent and the man still has it. Plus I believe they are mainly going for outdoor venues - so everyone get out there, enjoy the sun (a rare occurance in WNY) and see these shows!

Okay, I'm late. I'm still trying to catch up on digest. I read the article that was cut from a Queensryche "type of digest", and find it to be utter crap! Who ever this guy was, he has never seen DT on stage performing the material that keeps us in awe. He's never heard 'Silent Man', or maybe he'd prefer to ignore the fact that it ever exsited! Who does he think he is judging the sheer brilliance of the band against other talented bands. Just because they don't write about drugs and how an empire can take over the world doesn't mean that they don't mean what they write. I've found that the songs on Awake have more emotion put in them than some use in an entire decade. NO INDIVIDUAL WAS GIVIN THE SOLE RIGHT TO COMPAIR DREAM THEATER TO ANY OTHER BAND!!!!! To try to attempt this proves to me that you just have a very narrow mind!!!!!!!

Dear Jammers,
Hey there! I forgot to mention, since I assume that everyone knew I was working on the east coast con (doh!), that the YtseCon III will be on the east coast, probably taking place in New Jersey (in October!)
A couple of reminders...Chris Merlo (aka the Digital Man) is the guy to write to if you're planning to go the YtseCon III. He's taking everyone's names plus the number of people you plan to bring. Email him at cmerlo@cs.uvm.edu.
Also, if you're planning on going, then it'd be a good idea to email Pat Griffin at ytsecon@vortex.cc.missouri.edu. He's starting a temporary YtseCon mailing list, which will be a good way for all of us to exchange ideas and such.
Well, that's all for now, I'll keep everyone posted on the major developments. TTYL!
