I'm also interested in learning of prog bands with talented
vocalists who have a range in the lower octaves. Going through my list of
CDs, here are some of the bands who's vocalists have relatively low voices.

Ancient Vision -- I really like the vocalist for this band. He's got a very
strong voice and he uses it well. Get "The Vision", not their newer
            album which is rather boring.

Asia -- John Wetton has a pretty low voice and I like his style. He also
sang for U.K. and King Crimson.

Braindance -- The vocalist has a low voice, but he sings in a more atmospheric
way rather than lyrical. "Fear Itself" is a good prog album.

Circus -- One of my favorite prog bands. The vocalist is superb with a
            strong vocal presence.

Leonard Cohen -- He's not prog at all, but he's got an extremely low voice. :)

Echolyn -- The guys from Echolyn sing in a large range. A lot of the harmonies
are higher pitched, but the solo singing tends to be lower.

Golden Earring -- The main singer on "Moontan" tends to sing in a lower voice.
A superb, often overlooked, prog album. Their other albums are less
            prog.

Peter Hammill and Van Der Graaf Generator -- This guy has a very strong voice
and sings in a low pitch. His vocals and music can be pretty strange.
I tend to like his music with Van Der Graaf Generator better than his
            solo music.

Jethro Tull -- Ian Anderson is one of my favorite singers and he's got a low
voice. I especially love his style on their older albums. Check out
"Aqualung", "Thick as a Brick", "Minstrel in the Gallery" or perhaps
"Warchild". Great music and great vocals.

Greg Lake -- Sang for King Crimson (the early years) and ELP.

Marillion -- Fish's vocals can often be pretty low. I just really enjoy his
style and feel he has a very powerful voice. Check out "Misplaced
Childhood" or "Clutching at Straws". The new Marillion singer has
            a much higher pitched voice.

Metamorfosi -- This guy's voice is great. The vocals are all in Italian. I
wasn't sure I would like Italian vocals, but I've come to love them.
Many of the Italian vocalists seem to have very powerful voices.
            "Inferno" is a great album.

Museo Rosembach -- Another great Italian singer with low vocals. "Zarathustra"
            is a great prog album.

The Noisy Room -- The singer from TNR has a voice reminiscent of Peter Hammill,
quite low and sometimes aggressive. "The Chessboard" is a good album.

Superior -- The vocalist for this band has a gruff, low voice and uses it
very well. Their "Behind" album is superb, with heavy music and
aggressive vocals. It seems that the weakness of a lot of new prog
bands is the vocalist, but Superior has overcome that entirely.

Il Trono Dei Ricordi -- This band has English vocals and good music. The
vocalist has a smooth, strong voice.

Yes -- Jon Anderson... (just kidding!) ;-)

Frank Zappa -- He has a low voice but some pretty weird music.

If anyone is having trouble finding these CDs, let me know and I can
make a compilation tape or something and arrange a tape trade.
Does anyone else have suggestions for prog bands with low vocals?

                                    Steve
