Dear jammer,
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know a couple of things. First of
all, the mailing list is being scrubbed, so please email all of your
ideas and such to me personally, like it was before.
Secondly, I've appointed Frank Benenati (aka Mojoman) to run the tape
trade at the YtseCon, so if you plan to trade at the convention then
email him at mojoman@pointblank.com. TTYL!
Yours,
Jeff =)
P.S. I'll have a bit more info in a couple of days on a more specific
date for the ytsecon.

address, email me with what you want the address to be and I will try
to set it up in the next few days. I am almost caught up, but still
have a shitload of work to do :)

Finally, the Jams are working again! After a totally Jam-less weekend, I was wondering what was up; but I chalked it up to the fact that DreamNDay was out of the country. Oops.
Are Corey E. Cleary and RipZero the same person? What was with that one email? It was Rip's message from the previous Jam, but with Corey's address. Hmm...
And about a dreamt.org address... I think Skabz... er, Skadz should hand one out to EVERY Ytsejammer. That way it stays fair.
(My understanding is that you can currently only get one by passing Skadz's grueling initiation ritual Gauntlet, consisting of, among other things, being mercilessly beaten over the skull with Koba's industrial-size crack pipe until you attain new levels of brainhurt then pounding Neil Gallop's Bloody Booger Shots until you're retarded then being dragged naked by your tongue over rusty tacks & broken glass and then dipped into scalding hot Tang... no, wait, that's what you have to do to get "Precious Things", my bad)
And since when are bootlegs referred to as "'legs"?? What the hell happenned to "boots"? Come on, that sounds ridiculous-- "Hey, man, I'm looking for some Dream Theater 'legs... wanna trade 'legs?" When did I get to the amputee ward?
I have 3 words: Ytse Beach Week. Who's up for it?

I just wanted to comment on the guy who asked what the "sound" was on 6:00. This is only what I interpret but I believe it to be the musical differencies that Kevin Moore had with DT's music and his own music that he was writing. It seems like he is playing DT music but in his head he has another "sound" which is what he really wanted to play. As I said this is only my interpretation. As to the guy with the spanish , I am mexican and what he wrote were traditional mexican sayings , perfect spelling also. I'm desperately seeking the Lie CD-Single and the Wake Up boot , if anybody can help me I'd appreciate it.

hey, guys. this is a letter i sent to a station here in Philadelphia concearning music. Tell me what you think.

hello, all you there at y100. my name's mike, and i'm currently a junior at temple university, majoring in broacasting/telecommunications/mass media (say _THAT_ fast 5 times). I've come to write to you after a long discussion i had with a friend of mine who has written you in the past (His e-mail address is hughes@deepthought.texsci.edu) Anyway, i've writtenm to ask a few questions about your station, and more importantly, philadelphia radio. i've noticed that on your radio station (well, all of them do it) that you run through what is called a playlist. i'd assume that your "playlist" is basically "top 40", or something to that nature. i'd also assume that your criteria for the top 40 is based on record sales. if the beforementioned is true, this brings up a very interesting situation. You play what's being sold in large quanities, and when it's being bought, you play it. now, let's say (purely hypothetical, but this is my letter, so i'll write what i please, and yes, there is a point to it) that you wanted a song by suchandsuch artist to be heard. you play it. people like it and buy the cassette/cd, which in turn makes you play it more. if that is the case, couldn't you play ANYTHING YOU WANTED and make a hit? how many times in a day do i really have to hear "cumbersome" by 7 Mary 3? What is the need of playing a song once every 3 hours for 6 months? y100, meet the term "overkill." i know that the "bottom line" in radio is ratings, and ratings bring advertisment dollars. i find it rather interesting that you, WDRE (103.9), WPST (97.5) and now WYSP (94.1) are all going after the same market! This seems a bit weird for such a large market such as philadelphia. what's necessarily wrong with counterprogramming? there are lots of music out there that's not being played and should be played. why? well, i don't think any 15 year old necessarily wants to hear Rush's "Natural Science", or a song that isn't "new", or "trendy". There are bands today such as Sugar, Dream Theater, Faith No More (withouht Epic, they _HAVE_ had 3 albums since then, and each of them are better than _The Real Thing_), and even "indie rock" bands such as Pavement, Matthew Sweet, Girls agsinst Boys, and fun stuff like that. Personally, my main interest is Progressive Rock. My favorite bands are Rush, Dream Theater, Faith No More, Echolyn, and bands of that sorta nature. To quote Anthony Keidis, "i listen to the music that makes me think." I really think you might wanna re_look at the demographical interests you are trying to reach. You might do better with counterprogramming, and with that reach a whole crowd of people who have been let down by the philadelphia radio industry.
i await any reply.

Does anyone else have musically narrow-minded >friends? It's okay if you don't like them, but don't say they suck. At >least respect them for their talent.
Oh yeah! You're not alone my friend. I've got two particular friends in mind. They know nothing of music. One likes country and the other rap, which explains alot right off the bat. Neither could discern DT from Queensryche or Yes, and one thought Led Zep was DT. Talk about bad listening skills. Wait! I'm wrong. All of those bands use guitars, drums, keyboards, and vocals, so they must sound the same! Everything with those instruments on MTV sounds the same, so all music must too! Stupid... My favorite argument that, for some reason, they continually use to explain why Dream Theater is bad is that rap artists and generic alternative sells more records and tickets. It must be better music b/c more people like them. Well, I might reason, that means that Hootie and the Blowfish is the best band ever to walk the face of the earth. They've sold many more records than anyone else in the last year, so they must make the best music. Ummm, I don't think so. Another good one is that they can't be good because they wear, according to my friends, "tight leather pants" in their LiT video, which they don't. They're black jeans. But hell, even if they ran around in nothing but tighty whities and a single pink sock they would still be superior musicians. Talk about shallow. "I don't like the way they look so they must suck." Gotta love arguments that aren't thought through in the least. Unfortunately when we get into these arguments I'm too drunk to really formulate a cohesive argument. All of this is evidence that even though I try to keep an open mind I can't consider their musical opinions to have any weight. Sorry I'm babbling. I'm sure we're not alone there though. :) DT is not for the musically ignorant.

Hello all you guitar players in Ytseland. I just got the John Petrucci instructional video last night, one word, WOW. If your a beginning guitarist you should get this video because its great motivation and we'll give ya a good kick in the butt!! If your and advanced guitarist you should get this video because its great motivation and we'll give ya a good kick in the butt!!:) John actually "teaches" in this video and touches on some overlooked procedures such as stretches and massages. Believe it or not, these are important. Just ask Yngwie and Adrian Vandenberg about not warming up properly. the video is a REH video and runs about 49.95. I'll tell you what though, I would have payed up to 300.00 for it.:) But I'm just plain stupid to:) Its a well rounded video. A beginner can get alot from it and so can a more advanced player. Petrucci is an incredible guitarist. So if your lokking to get over that hump or plateau in your playing, this video is sure to help. Also, can someone either mail me or repost the info on the JP clinic in Akron, Ohio. I'm honbestly thinking about making the 12 hour drive out there to see him. Also, if their are any known dates of other places he will be appearing, mail those or post them to the jam for me to. As per Ibanez's (since he is sponsoring the clinic) request: John Petrucci will be doing a clinic at Lentine's Music in Akron Ohio on April 24. It is a Wednesday night at 8:00PM. The address is 844 N. Main Street. Tickets are $7.50 in advance, and $10.00 at the door. I would recommend calling the phone number listed in the flyer: (330) 434-3138. I don't know the dates of any other clinics, but that information will be relayed immediately to the 'Jam if I find out (especially for The Digital Man and The Silent Man).
Sincerely,
G. Jack Thetgyi

Well Jammers, I finally found Shadow Gallery in the "S misc." section down at Newbury Comics. I guess I just never figured to look in that section before, oh well. Anyways, this is the first band I've heard that has a Dream Theater influence to it, instead of influencing DT. Believe it or not (!) I got into Rush, Fates Warning, and Queensryche all AFTER hearing DT. Before DT I was just listening to Metallica and Megadeth. While the singer sounds more like Geoff Tate then James, there are instrumental sections that sound like they came right off of any of the 3 DT albums. The keyboardist sounds very much like Kevin, not much like Derek. Some serious shredding by the guitarist, not quite up to the JP league. However, there are things that set them apart from DT. These guys definitly have potential. Some of their song writing needs some work, but I can almost guarantee any DT fan will like this.
My guitar teacher had been bugging me for months to pick up Ah Via Musicom from Eric Johnson and I finally did. I now understand what he's all about, TONE! He has incredible sounds and uses the space in the music very well. This is something I think comes with experience. You can notice how the use of space increases on Awake compared to WDADU. It's a real sign of musical maturity to step back and do what's right for the listener sometimes. Anyways, guitar player or not, I strongly recommend this album. Some beautiful melodies and guitar work here. That's all for now.

I used the American version of it. "Telnet cdconnection.com" I got my cd's very quickly and was very impressed with the service. They even let you check the status of your order while it's being shipped to you, all on-line!
I guess the Germany outlet of that company deals with the harder to find imports. I haven't dealt with that aspect of them, but I assume the company's standards probably would be worldwide, yes/no?
Hope this helps!
