What's the deal with the people who put up several posts on one Ytsejam?
Why not just say all you need to at once instead of mailing in several
times. It get's annoying after a while.

Dude, chill. 1) TDoE is a DT boot. 2) There's nothing wrong with not
listening to DT every waking moment of the day. They're a BAND.
(Although I noticed that Gandalf didn't have any Rush with him. But I
digress. :) 3) What are you, DreamNDay's cousin or something?

I'm not looking for growling thrash stuff, just talented guys with >a lower range. I'm fond of the sopranos like LeBrie and the others, but am >looking for a change of place... Thanks... > I'm also interested in learning of prog bands with talented vocalists who have a range in the lower octaves. Going through my list of CDs, here are some of the bands who's vocalists have relatively low voices.

Ancient Vision -- I really like the vocalist for this band. He's got a very strong voice and he uses it well. Get "The Vision", not their newer album which is rather boring.

Asia -- John Wetton has a pretty low voice and I like his style. He also sang for U.K. and King Crimson.

Braindance -- The vocalist has a low voice, but he sings in a more atmospheric way rather than lyrical. "Fear Itself" is a good prog album.

Circus -- One of my favorite prog bands. The vocalist is superb with a strong vocal presence.

Leonard Cohen -- He's not prog at all, but he's got an extremely low voice. :)

Echolyn -- The guys from Echolyn sing in a large range. A lot of the harmonies are higher pitched, but the solo singing tends to be lower.

Golden Earring -- The main singer on "Moontan" tends to sing in a lower voice. A superb, often overlooked, prog album. Their other albums are less prog.

Peter Hammill and Van Der Graaf Generator -- This guy has a very strong voice and sings in a low pitch. His vocals and music can be pretty strange. I tend to like his music with Van Der Graaf Generator better than his solo music.

Jethro Tull -- Ian Anderson is one of my favorite singers and he's got a low voice. I especially love his style on their older albums. Check out "Aqualung", "Thick as a Brick", "Minstrel in the Gallery" or perhaps "Warchild". Great music and great vocals.

Greg Lake -- Sang for King Crimson (the early years) and ELP.

Marillion -- Fish's vocals can often be pretty low. I just really enjoy his style and feel he has a very powerful voice. Check out "Misplaced Childhood" or "Clutching at Straws". The new Marillion singer has a much higher pitched voice.

Metamorfosi -- This guy's voice is great. The vocals are all in Italian. I wasn't sure I would like Italian vocals, but I've come to love them. Many of the Italian vocalists seem to have very powerful voices. "Inferno" is a great album.

Museo Rosembach -- Another great Italian singer with low vocals. "Zarathustra" is a great prog album.

The Noisy Room -- The singer from TNR has a voice reminiscent of Peter Hammill, quite low and sometimes aggressive. "The Chessboard" is a good album.

Superior -- The vocalist for this band has a gruff, low voice and uses it very well. Their "Behind" album is superb, with heavy music and aggressive vocals. It seems that the weakness of a lot of new prog bands is the vocalist, but Superior has overcome that entirely.

Il Trono Dei Ricordi -- This band has English vocals and good music. The vocalist has a smooth, strong voice.

Yes -- Jon Anderson... (just kidding!) ;-)

Frank Zappa -- He has a low voice but some pretty weird music.

If anyone is having trouble finding these CDs, let me know and I can make a compilation tape or something and arrange a tape trade. Does anyone else have suggestions for prog bands with low vocals?

Hi all, I have to things to report here. One, I was reading the thank you list on the inside of Widowmaker's first album, "Blood and Bullets", and noticed that in addition to Steve Vai, Vinnie Moore and other big names that Dee Snider and Al Pitrelli would know the name Derek Shrennian (spelling?-I don't have the album in front of me) shows up. I know that this band is from Long Island, but this album was released in '92. What band was Derek with at this time? I just wanted to share this little discovery with you. By the way, if you haven't checked Widowmaker out its definately worth it. Visit Dee's web page for info on how to get "Blood and Bullets" sice the label that released it went under. Their last album, "Standby for Pain" is in stores, though. Next thing. I am looking into buying a Fostex E-8 reel to reel 8-track used from someone and the specs that he sent me seem pretty good. I would like to know more about it, though. If anyone has any info at all about this unit or opinions on it your input would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a picture of it from a magazine or their own studio possibly I would be extremely grateful to you if you scanned it and e-mailed it to me. Thanks a lot, Ben Flynn bflynn@sps.edu

I had the wierdest, and coolest dream last night that I've had in many a month. (This could be due to the fact that I've quit smoking weed this last two weeks...) Nevertheless, I am grateful. I live in Austin, TX - The Live Music Capital of The World - and to my knowledge DT has only played here once. (DT members, if you're reading this, COME BACK TO AUSTIN SOON!) Anyway, the dream was like this: I was sitting in the Cactus Cafe, enjoying a 'rita and chips and salsa, when JP, JM, and MP just walked in! It was sooo vivid, like I was really _there_. Cactus Cafe being one of hundreds of live music venues in Austin, and me being such a DT fan, I immediately approached their table and suggested that these three GODS OF ROCK would have my undying gratitude if they'd play a song or two. As if by magic, they produced instruments (Hey, it was a dream...) and began to JAM! Improvisational Utopia! They played for hours! (Hey, it was MY dream!) I awoke feeling drained but ecstatic. A big thank-you to my subconscious mind (and it's constructs of JP, JM, and MP) for an incredible set! Incredibly, I didn't forget any of this dream, again probably due to the decrease of short-term-memory-affecting substances in my system. Just thought you 'Jammers might like to hear about this incredible Astral Concert. Asta luego... -Rob Petruccianity will save the lost! Convert! Be baptized into the New Order of music! All hail Petrucci! Bless us, oh Masterful Muse!

YtseCon III Attendees List Name <e-mail address> D/P + x D/P = I'm definite/possible and my x friends are definite/possible. Please check your name, address, and number of people attending for accuracy. Report problems to me, Chris Merlo, at d-man@dreamt.org or cmerlo@cs.uvm.edu.

I will NOT assume that you are or are not going, depending on where you live, or how long you have known me. If you plan to attend YtseCon III, and your name is not on this list, e-mail me and tell me explicitly that you plan to attend.

Also, please remember that I'm not in charge of the Ytsecon. I'm just collecting names. Jeff Chew (jc309@columbia.edu) is the man to ask administrative stuff (like, "When is the Con? Where will it be held?"). As it seems, the Con will be held in New Jersey on Columbus Day weekend, either that Saturday (10/12/96) or Sunday (10/13/96).
