I didn't mention the first two (Taking Over and Feel the Fire) because
I don't have them. I wouldn't want to offer an opinion on something I
have never heard. As for what this mailing list is about...that's a good
    question.
I think it's supposed to be about Dream Theater but usually (ok, half the
    time)
ends up being about related or unrelated musical (or philosophical) topics.

    That is a good thing.

I'd agree that his "99%" statement was a bit overboard, but if you're implying that the most talented bands sell the most records than by far the most talented band in the past 2 years is Hootie and the Blowfish <cringe>. Though I doubt you're implying that so I'll go away now. :)

I just got done reading 250,000,000 jams. I am such a slaker.

I am on my way to check out the doom dt level. Here are some ideas for other levels.

    1. Portnoy chases Prater through the dark halls of hell. You must kill him and his invincible army of drum triggers. 2. Find the real Petrucci. Imposters are running free. Detect slight flaws in the solos and kill the imposters. 3. 5 words. Kevin Moore wants back in. 4. Wade your way through a hellish sea of unread ytsejams and try to come out without eye fatigue. 5. Convert your worst enemies into loyal and brainwashed ytsejammers.

    Hi guys,

sorry to bother you with NDTC-crap. If you expect any DTC, please skip to the next message...or the next one...or... Well... you get the point :-)

A couple of digests ago I managed to actually sneak in some DTC (samples on 'The Mirror') but no one replied, confirmed, or said anything about it. I'm not bitter, though... just a bit disappointed... :-| Maybe people were shocked to actually read about a DT-song on this list...

Rudy van IJzendoorn said: > I was wondering if I'm the first Dutch guy ever to write in this newslist.

Nope, I've been here since november '95 and have posted a couple of times. I'm also on the #Ytsenet about every night, around 12am CET (for most US-jammers that's 6pm). I'm that 'Most Frequent Poster'-dude, Itchy !!!

Ok, here's another list. This time it's the DutchJammer top-7 ! (This 1's 4 U, Rudy!). The 'ALL' column indicates where 'we' (Dutchies) are on the big MFP-list... Again, I used all the digests I have, to compile this list: 1165-1457 (= 4 1/2 months). 58 messages were sent from The Netherlands by 12 people.

ALL E-mail address Posts ---------------------------------------------- 1. (37) v932407@si.hhs.nl (16) 2. (41) r.c.karsmakers@stud.let.ruu.nl (12) 3. Those 'getronics' guys are probably just one & the same. So he should be at nr. 3 (just like me) with 5 posts. Of course, this is already my 6th post !

BTW, 'Response@ibmmail.com' is at nr. 1 with 196 posts. DreamNDay@aol.com is stuck at nr 2. with 'just' 178 messages. s0067977@hawkmail.monmouth.edu is the third runner up with 130 messages... Maybe you could make it to nr. 2 if you post 48 messages before Brian returns to the Jam...

Personally, I hope you won't pull a "Cleary" on us...

BTW, Corey (E. Cleary), you're at 32 with 22 messages... I don't want to rain on your parade, but you're not gonna make it to the top of the list ! Please, don't even try... don't even reply to this message, at least not on the Jam... (mail me priv. if you have to)

    /Nick BItchy BItchy> hehe!

The main reason I posted my little top-10 in the first place, was to let the people on that list know that *maybe* they post too often. Maybe they could combine those messages or JUST SAY NO TO NDTC. (that reminds me, I'll have to come up with some DTC for this post...damn...oh well...). I hate to think that people are actually trying to get on my MFP-list on purpose. It's NO FUCKING contest. Just like 'Berkeley is NO FUCKING GUARANTEE' ! (with Elizabeth Berkeley, OTOH, fucking *IS* guaranteed, hehe!)

Itchy> Yeah, Rip, that's my 1-track mind acting up again...

OK, back to Rudy > why does everyone always use these non-understandable > abbreviations for bands and albums?

Ppl use abbrev. 'cause they don't 1-2 type D whole darn thing !

/Nick Itchy * Itchy is kidding (not bitching)

    > yeh, yeh, I know all those DT abbreviations

So what's the prob. ? Isn't DT the only thing we talk about here? Or was it the only thing we didn't talk about...don't remember...

What's that all about ? I've seen that before... What's it doing in those messages... More important, how can we get rid of it...?

Ok, now for some DT content... damn...don't have any... Sorry guys... Now I feel real bad... But, then again... I always feel bad... and *Itchy*... oh well...

But if I post something lame or not relating to DT, I'd get a slew of messages.. So, enlighten me with your wisdom about petty crap, like what keyboards are "real" and what keyboards aren't.. (my personal opinion - anything that can make some sort of pleasing sound.. cheap or expensive, is an instrument.. be it a Roland or a Casio..) -- For the second time, let me waste time by posting this message... <insert message here> -- Message #18 (18 is last): Date: Sat Apr 20 13:18:56 1996 From: an577@osfn.rhilinet.gov (Jake Carter) Subject: Accounts,/etc/passwd file and Everything To: al682@osfn.rhilinet.gov Reply-To: an577@osfn.rhilinet.gov Okay. You won't give me the file but can you un lock its most desirable secrets such as the passwords to the freenet? Lock them out? The freenet can;t log in from any port including port -0+ which in anycase (if you are a dummy is the main port mainframe) but since you don't want to give it to me the easy way i will just have to do it on my own and when i uncode it(using my OWN program which does it online called EPdecode.exe) i will change your password and fuck up your account real bad. anyway, all i want is the hacker crackdown and the passwd file Shown 85%, press <SPACE> for more, 'q' to quit, or 'h' for help if you perfer mailing it to me (e-mail) just do it or upload it. By the way you get me the file you are going to be very powerful or very weak. As I continue to ramble on.. I know I always ask about Dominici.. but I am intrigued by this man.. Anyways, does anyone know if there other recordings with him on it? I mean, other albums by other bands with him as the vocalist? Fellow Ytsejammers, enlighten me with your knowledge! I'd stay away from the Roland A-30. Last time I checked, it did not have aftertouch! That's how Roland makes a $500 76 key board. You'd be much better off with a 61-key board for $1000 that had aftertouch. I'd say, as far as sound quality, key quality and controller quality, go for either a Roland or a Korg, because pitch/mod sticks are the thing! :) I feel that Korg had better hardware, but I prefer Roland sounds.

If you can afford $1500, go for the Roland JV-90. It's the cheapest 76-key fully-featured board I could find. (If you don't need a sequencer) I own one and love it. You can prolly get it for close to $1200 these days.

I assume that your SCC-1 is a Sound Canvas of some sort? (Sorry, not hip on all the General-MIDI stuff) Then, I'd recommend a Roland GM compatable keyboard to go with it, perhaps one of the GM boards (or for the cheap) the A-30 if you don't want aftertouch (but you do, trust me!) Roland has their own , proprietary extension to General MIDI, GX (?) (or maybe that's the GS you mention?) and so a Roland GM keyboard would interface most seamlessly. The JV-90 is not a GM keyboard (you can get a plug-in board that is, tho) -- another feature I like. ;) but it should interface as a controller well. My manual has flown the coop or I'd give you better specifics on the JV-90.
