I was planning on writing some sort of soliloquy utilizing every possible
Dream Theater title I could think of, but I figured that would get rather
redundant and repetitive. (Yes, I meant to use redundant and repetitive
together. The irony!) Instead, I've decided to ask a few questions which I
know have been discussed in the past, but due to my brain's ignorance, I seem
to have forgotten these questions' answers. So, here it goes:

    1) Okay, on the LIT video, DT plays TLF. What is the title of the
    instrumental that directly follows TLF?

    2) What was the original working title of Surrounded? (I think it was
Surrounded which had a different title on the I&W promo cassette...or was it
    UAGM?)

    3) Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

    4) What is the meaning of Scarred? Not having the lyrics near me, I seem to
be under the impression that it's about infidelity (in other words, cheating)
    during marriage.

    5) Did you know that Nabisco has it's own web site? It's true!!! I was
fiddling around with Netscape 2.01 when I just starting typing in anything I
    could think of in:
http://www."fill in the blank".com/ (in this case, http://www.nabisco.com/"
and it worked! Check out the playground there and you could win a free toy!
     The Nabisco Thing!

    6) Lastly, who is this Bafu Vai character and his friend, Sideshow Ben? :P

A while ago I was reading some post from alt.music.rush and someone said
the reason why Rush is a great band is because they *compose* their music
rather than *write* it. A few days later, I asked my music teacher if
there was a difference between the two words and he said no. So now I'm
confused and I ask the help of my fellow ytsejammers: is there a
difference between "composing music" and "writing music?"

hey, all. just a few pointers.

1: Skadz just rules. After like 2 months, he FINALLY sends me a
copy of the birch hill tape. Of course, it's fucked up. So, the
bastard's gotta send me another one. I WANT MY WEBBAGE!@ :)

2: To Andrew Miller (and, hell, all the fun echolyn people), a
few things. Sony did _NOT_ drop echolyn. after tom and chris left, sony
said basically "well, we'd like one more album, but after that, you're
free to go" and this is one of a few reasons why "when the sweet turns
sour" will be out rather soon. I HIGHLY reccommend all of you to get
"Suffocating The Bloom", 'cause I don't know if there's gonna be another
    chance to get it.

So, i made the "ultimate dream theater" tape...well, all i felt
sucifficant to put on a 110 minute tape. here's what's on it:

    side a:

pull me under / under a glass moon / ytsejam jam / mirror / lie / acos

    side b:

fortune in lies / under a glass moon / a mind besides itself / eve / take
    the time / metropolis

    it's pretty rad.

is it me, or is "a fortunue in lies" a kick_ass song? i think that they
should keep AFIL in the set. It's so musically...good. I like Eve. It's
got that whole "Kevin_Moore_mellow" thing goin' on, which is a good thing.

Bafu, Bafu, Bafu. _WHY_ aren't you coming to ytsejam? DO NOT MAKE ME GET
    HAIRBALL AFTER YOU!@

speaking of which, i should e-mail him and tell him to get his
ass back on here. i miss him (and his ex). :)

what a great song "hey courtney love i got your
hole right here" haha! Ted's the man!

Man you aren't kidding! Saw Ted last year with Bad Company (who really
surprised me; they've got a new singer that sounds almost like Paul Rodgers ).
They are both touring again this summer; Don't miss it! Ted had Derek
St.Holmes with him last tour; hopefully he's still touring with the Motor City
    Madman.

Blues Review: If any of you 'jammers need a blues fix, check out Kenny Wayne
Shepherd. I saw him last Saturday night at the House of Blues in Hollyweird.
He did a near 2.5 hour set that included a killer version of "Voodoo Chile".
Slash joined him on stage for two songs, one of which was Stevie Ray's "Leave My
Little Girl Alone". Tell ya what, the guy is only 19 years old and he can
    fookin' play.

    Hasta.

Mike, thanks for giving more insight on this 'selling out' thing. From
my experience, I say no. I bought StB, Gardener's Guide, and t-shirt from
Paul, and he sent me the merchandise before I even sent the check. I was
like, "Whoa...are you sure about that?"...and he said the band went by
'trust.' So I think that the band was not interested in $$$$$, but in
making their fans happy and putting out music that they are into.

    Andrew,
If you really want to know if the band is 'selling out', why don't you
ask the band members themselves? Maybe this will soothe your fear. I
asked Brett about a few songs, and he was more than happy to tell me.

All of us here can give our opinions and interpretations...and it's just that
    *our* opinion and *our* interpretation.

got about 40 pictures online. Check it out!

I'm sorry to say that Fish will be unable to appear at ProgDay '96. His
plans for a North American tour have been postponed until October '96.
I am still looking for a headliner--I will be approaching Camel, Dream
Theater and IQ during the next couple of weeks; wish me luck!

TICKET INFO: Admission will be $20 a day at the gate.
Advance weekend passes are available for $35 (price good

PROGDAY '96 VOLUNTEERS: I am still working on a sign-up sheet of various
duties for volunteers. I cannot offer free or reduced admission to
volunteers, but I will be able to offer programs and t-shirts.

PROGDAY '95 VIDEO: I now have in my possession all the mastertapes for
ProgDay '95. Fletch Good and I will be entering the studio first week of
May (we hope) to edit everything together. The final video will be 2 hours
    long.

PROGDAY '95 CD: I'm a lot closer to the CD release, though it looks doubtful
now that it will be out in time for ProgDay '96. Chris Buzby has done a
fabulous job mixing the songs for Discipline and echolyn. The stuff sounds
so good you're likely to forget this is a live performance!

    Hello Jammers,

Damn I'm posting a lot recently... <grin> watch out Bafu, Damon,
and company... There is a fairly new site on the WWW that carries up to
date information and a whole lot of prog rock bands and a few other cool
non-prog bands. The site is called Ghostland, and the URL is
    http://www.webcom.com/qghost/
Ghost has been talking to the former members of echolyn, and does a great
job in finding out info on all of the bands on the list. The site is
    top-notch, highly recommended...

He also has up to date Dream Theater info, as well as the new official
Echolyn homepage, with info on the follow-up projects of echolyn members.
He has the release date for the new Rush album, Shadow Gallery info,
Mastermind, and info on several other bands that get traffic on this
    digest.

No, I still think the "sound," whatever it might be, comes from Within the
troubled man. It's not his alarm clock, it's not anything outside of his
being. It's his own mind nagging at him to make a change in his life. The
only thing he's struggling with is himself.

    > Then, the line about finding the sound and being in too deep refers to
    > the fact that even if this guy "finds the sound" in his own music, it's

    >
    > Jon Goad

That might be, but I don't think "the sound" is strictly about someone's
musical endeavors. "6:00" is obviously about someone trapped in an
unfavorable situation in which they have no control, least of all over
themselves because they can't sort out their own thoughts.

I think the idea of "the sound" is much more broad than one's repressed
desire to follow their music, I think it's about how this disturbed man,
be he Kevin or Kevin's friend from the factory or just a character Kevin
decided to write about, is slowly waking up to the reality that he can't
go on living a certain way. That lifestyle might be working in a factory,
or it might be the position of the keyboardist in Dream Theater, or it
might be someone telling themselves they aren't constipated when they know
damn well they haven't been to the bathroom in four days.

Kevin may have written the song specifically about one person, but my
point is that the theme of "6:00" can apply to any situation involving a
person caught in a crisis between their conscious desires and their
    subconscious desires.

[following comment not directed at Jon Goad]

And someone said "Awake" isn't a "cohesive" album. Bullshit.

Elvis haters? You better hope he never decides to subscribe to the 'jam or he's gonna be real pissed.

As far as I can tell, DT only ever had one element of rebellion, and it's gone now: Kevin Moore. Some of his lyrics could easily be erupted by Philip Anselmo of Pantera and they would sound alright.

(Erupt: verb. an energetic mixture of raspy growling and full-bodied shouting where vocals are blasted out with such velocity and volume that they emulate an erupting volcano. Slight vocal-tone is occasionally added to create the auditory illusion that actual notes are being sung.)

No never contrived, it's an overnight sensation.

No, I can't. But I can see (and hear) Portnoy doing a duet with Tupac Shakur...

It "covers" me? What, do I need to build up rational-thought credits before I can splurge and just be myself? :)

    Bafu Vai
