First off, thanks for the Discography post, Mike, but can anyone tell me
EXACTLY when Awake was released? (Month and Date)... I remember getting
it on a MOnday, so I was at least a week late (then again, I had no clue
of what a Ytsejam was at the time, so I can only plead "I didn't know")

#2 About Jeff Cline, asking about wdaTu was, the day after the Jam gets 6
posts explaining what that was.....is he for real, or was that a prank?

#3 About my subject....I really liked what someone (I forget who) said
about DT not being popular, because they don't have that rebellion streak
in their music.....well, I got to thinking after I saw a "Fuck Corporate
Rock" bumper sticker alongside a Melvins stciker on the back of a car today.

Dream Theater, and I guess other prog bands are sorta like the
Accountants of Rock: Accountants do all these cool tax dodging tricks
for their corporations, and because *nobody* understands what the hell
they're doing, they don't get the respect that others get, and they're
thought of as boring.....with Prog, it's the same way....*no one* "gets"
what's going on when DT is playing, and therefore they dismiss it as
    boring, or worse 'wankering' :-)....
But WE 'get' it, and so we appreciate it, as CEOs understand and
appreciate the work of their accountants, and I guess, in the music
appreciation world, that puts us on an equal footing with CEOs (compared
to the mailroom workers fans of some grunge bands)......funny how that
    works out, huh?

Ok, getting off my elitist soapbox now,
                                           Partha Mukhopadhyay

    Hello Jammers,

To answer Ryan's question about the Lie single:

The disk was made in a plant in Germany and then shipped to the UK for
release as a single. As one German once told me (I forget his name..
sorry <grin>) "It sucks, the disk is made in Germany and I had to pay
import prices to get it here."

    1) About Alice Cooper: He's doing a few shows, at least, with the
Scorpions, which is tres cool (Saving my pennies as I speak...)
    2) About Angra: I learned something taking the MCAT the other day....
In the old Zoarostian religion, their version of the Good vs.
Evil dichotomy had ANGRA Mainyu as the EVIL spirit....not sure if you
care, but I thought it was cool....
(and I also got a reading passage out of Veep AL Gore's book, thought
    that was funny)

Anyway, if you folx have a few prayers to spare, send 'em my way, I don't
think I did too terribly well on that aforementioned exam (where's Mike
    Coughlin when you need him....)

I was as happy as anyone when I found out about echolyn. I started
listening to echolyn last winter. I found out about them shortly before
'as the world' came out. I might have never got to hear echolyn if it
was not for SONY (those bastards:). I just basicly am trying to firgure
out if they went against what the lyrics where or not. I guess I have to
take a look at my Gardener's Guide again, because, this whole concept is
a new one to me. I mean I always relized what the song was about, but
not until this pass weekend did my brother start ragging on me about them
selling out and going against there word. But I guess if what Mike
Backof said was true (And I know it is Mike :) then I guess I have
nothing to worry about, but damn if that is the most ironic thing that I
have noticed in a long while. That's for the responses.

Sorry about taking up list space talk about echolyn, but John Santore
kind of stoped doing his job on 'The Wiblet'. God if I had two more free
minutes I'd start a new echolyn list. Anyone want to take on the job
    themselves, please!

Interesting that we get two interrelated messages in one 'Jam: David
Kobayashi asking for opinions on his transcription of Wait for Sleep and
another 'Jammer asking for keyboard parts to DT songs.

David: For the most part, your transcription seems very accurate. I'm
sure Kevin himself editing it probably helped that a bit. :) The
section starting at the last line on page 5 through the 3rd line on page
6 seems a bit funky, but if I actually got it down I think it might sound
a little bit more like it's supposed to. Great job overall though,
thanks for your time and effort.

Guy asking for keyboard parts: Get in touch with David Kobayashi
(WildKoba@aol.com) and get his transcription of Wait for Sleep. It's
very accurate and also very professional looking due to the software he
used to print it out on.

I'm also curious if there are any other keyboard transcriptions out there
for DT stuff? Has anyone got a copy of Space Dye Vest? Any keyboard
stuff for other bands out there? Maybe one for Someone Else? by
Queensryche, or some Savatage or Tori Amos stuff?

Just a quick note before the big mess to follow. If you send a money
order I can mail the disc out without delay (usually 1 or 2 days after
recieving payment). With a check I must wait 10 business days after I
deposit it in order for my bank to tell me if it has cleared. I don't mind
doing this but if you want it ASAP send a money order. :^)

A quick way to order is to go to Jeff Chew's Home Page "Dream Theater's:
Lifting Shadows" Thanks again Jeff! This page rules I was on it for almost
two hours reading all the interviews and stuff! Just do it and prepare to be
dazzled! :^) While you are there make sure you order Mike Bahr's current
CD's, each release is better than the last so don't miss out on the original!

I have received permission from Mike to do this and my intent is not to
compete with him. I am doing this because I realize that there are a number
of Jammers that missed out on SUBCONSCIOUS and I would like to help.

    > A note from Mike:
    > Hi everyone! I can't make any more, you're all well aware of

Here is how I would like to work it. If you would like to order please

             SUBCONSCIOUS ORDER
             NAME:
             ADDRESS:
             E-MAIL:
             # of COPIES:

I will e-mail the first 25 people and ask that they send a money order
in $U.S. I will accept a check but I must wait until it clears the bank, so
this means your order will take longer to get to you. When I finish with
these I will move on to the next 25 and so on. This way you don't have to
part with your hard earned money so far in advance of receiving your
shipment. If you don't have the money now you may ask to be put on the WAIT
order list. What this means is I will WAIT for you to e-mail me when you are
able to send the money and I will then put you in the next block. I ask that
people do this so I know in advance how many blank CD's I need to purchase.

Well, it's about time for my semi-annual post to this, our fabled and
beloved YtseJam. You know, I've been here for, oh I don't know, going on a
year now, and I haven't seen anyone ask this so I think it's flameproof.
It's hard to tell though, cuz it's a jungle out there. I mean, all an
innocent, unsuspecting Fresh-Ytse has to do is emphatically deny that
there is a T in Day, and s/he's liable to get their head taken off. My
God, what have we come to?! Easy, guys. "Ignorance surrounding me. I've
never been so filled with fear." You were there once too. Not to imply
that you new guys are scared. I'm just trying to subtly brainwash the
Jammers with DT quotes. So go ahead, "Take the time. You can find all you
need in my mind." I'm kidding. I kid. I'm a kidder. Though I've heard
there's some good stuff in there; you just gotta hunt around a bit. :)

ANYWAY, the question I was going to ask: I know that pretty much
anytime DT puts an image on a CD case or whatever, it symbolizes
something, i.e. the boy in ACOS. Now I was wondering if the back of the
Awake case means anything. Their picture is in some sort of rusted metal
ring, and there is just all this seemingly meaningless debris lying
around. You guys got any ideas on what this could symbolize. With the band
in the center, maybe it means that there is order in chaos. I don't know,
and if this has been beaten to death in the primal stages of the Jam, go
ahead, let me know. I dare ya.

CURIOSITY: Are there any other Ytse-Pilots out there. As for
myself I soloed recently. Damn!... what a rush.

I have proved a working theory of mine. YOU CAN turn on Mtv anytime of day
and either get A) Oasis with Champagne supernova, or B) Morissette with Ironic
and most definitely get c) pissed off. :)
MTV has really gone down the crapper within the last 5 years. IT is really
sad. I dunno why someone starts a new music station dedicated only to
rock and metal, non grunge or alternative either ;)
NOW that would be coool :)

Well it seems that there is a large group of people w/ PSR keyboards on the
jam... I myself have a PSR-200... you know what we should do? Let's all get
together, and sneak into Damon's house. then we'll replace his keyboard rig
w/ a couple of PSR's and wait quietly for the screams of agony. just
    kidding,Damon;)

A question: I remember reading somewhere that the name 'Dream Theater' came
from an actual theater somewhere... well I was looking through my old geetar
'zines and I saw an ad of the JPM-100 when it first came out... you know the
limited edition deal...and there's a picture of an old building that says
Dream Theater on the side... is that the actual theater from which they got
    their name? just curious...

Some guy was trying to correct us on knowing about the band and he said
that were wrong saying WDATU "last time i checked it was when dream and
day unite" well dude..if you know soooo much how come you dont know
that WDATU is a cd made by Mike Bahr and the T stands for When dream and
    TOday unite ...dumbass

Uh, Kurt, remember when your mother told you not to be a hypocrite?
    Check out your subject...dumbass! :P

Oh yeah, and Scott Cook was using what we call _sarcasm_. But, it's
understandable for people like you not to understand sarcasm...see? WRONG!
     I was being being sarcastic! Sheesh...what a world...okay, enough babble;
    must pee.

Hey Bafu, does this get Kurt in the idiot's club? Or do you have to do
something completely idiotic? Say like blow drying your hair in the shower?
