Wow. Sounds like too much fun NOT to post...

Quotes from the Christmas-shows weekend (ACOS):

"Hey Trey, check it out! Snow!" -- Brandon Ghioto, witnessing the
    substance for the first time.

"Looks like we'll just have to do a live IRC-session." -- Me, at the
Holiday Inn, realizing DT was not going to be joining us at the Con.

"You got a lotta fuckin' nerve pullin' something like this." -- Angry
Woman, at the con, to Trey Allen for not having more control over DT's
    management.

"Look, back UP!! BACK!! BACDAFUCUP!!" -- Big Security Guard, said to the
Birch Hill audience at the request of James LaBrie. (That particular area
of the audience contained Paul Vanyel, Mike Bahr, and Christopher Merlo,
who are of the appropriate combined mass that they don't need to listen to
anyone who yells at them to move.)

"AC/DC?! That's King Crimson!!" -- Jon Coombs, playing the guitar at
Andrew Keegan's house and frustratedly correcting me that the riff he was
playing DIDN'T sound like AC/DC's "Thunderstruck." (or was this someone
    else?)

"Now youz CAN'T leave." -- Random Mosher, at Birch Hill, quoting "A Bronx
Tale" as the security guards shut the doors leading outside.

"Danger danger danger danger danger..." -- Paul Vanyel, repeatedly
muttering the word in Brandon's car, sensing impending doom on the
    highway.

"HOLYSHITI'MGONNAFUCKIN'DIIIE!!" -- Al Balkiewicz, at Birch Hill, as the
crowd started rotating as if on axis to the tune of "Caught In A Web" and
he found himself being pulled backwards and downwards.

"Whoah, this is cool!" -- Brandon Ghioto, getting his hands in a pile of
snow in a parking lot and forming a snowball.

"Watch her get backstage with that blouse." -- Jammer Who Shall Remain
Nameless, at Birch Hill, observing a woman in the backstage line who
didn't have a backstage pass but had a near-transparent blouse.

"I don't fuckin' believe this. They wouldn't have even PLAYED ACOS if it
hadn't been for us, and we're not even allowed to WAIT for the band to
come out." -- Me, at Malibu, feeling slightly edged as the Malibu
security guards ordered a dozen of us to our faces to leave the building.

"Dear God, please not that. ANYTHING but that." -- Paul Vanyel, at Birch
Hill, said as James LaBrie ominously said the word "webbage" while
introducing the next song as the entire lot of us were struggling for air
    and getting crushed.

"Where's Bafu Vai? I wanna kick his ass!" -- Person standing in the
parking lot of the Fantazia Diner punching his fist into his palm, said to
Trey Allen who was sitting in the front seat of Brandon's car. I was in
the back seat covering my face with my jacket.

"No." -- John Myung, when asked if there were any deep dark secrets he
wanted me to relay to the 'jam.

"Why can't I be a woman." -- Jammer Who Shall Remain Nameless, proving
his genius to me as the previously-mentioned translucent-bloused woman
    walked past us backstage.

"We shoulda moshed that bitch." -- Ryan Skadberg, expressing a more
violent alternative to the lot of us quietly leaving after being ejected
from the Fantazia Diner for walking from table to table and talking to our
friends. (In fact, I walked in just as the group was getting kicked out.
Gee, Skadz, how did it feel having someone kick YOU out for a change?) :)

"Muffins, biscuits, we got it ALL, babe." -- Marcy, the tough New Jersey
diner-waitress, to Brandon Ghioto, the nice boy from Florida, as he
    relentlessly hit on her.

"I can't feel anything." -- Person, freezing in line at Malibu.

"No, wait. I can still feel gravity pulling me downwards." -- Same
Person, freezing in line at Malibu, correcting their previous statement.

"WASHINGTON STATE?! You must really like dese guys, eh?" -- Malibu
Main-Door Security Guard, with New York accent included, checking my
driver's licence as the popsicles who had enough blood left circulating
through their legs to walk shuffled into the Malibu.

Ooh-Ah-Mo it really growing on me, too. I don't think it'll pass up
Metropolis or ACOS '92 as favorites, but It'll probably be the first one
that I learn to play all the way through. Some fun keyboard solos that
aren't just the million note runs of some of the others. i.e. playable by a
    hack like me. :)

    > what's funny is that the one song that broke alternative music to

    >"ironic"):

No, _anything_ by Presidents Of The USA is the stupidest song ever written.
If you were to graph the relative intelligence of songs, and expand the
chart to include POTUSA, it would look like this:

    * (POTUSA) (monkey banging on bongos)* (all else)* *(prog)
    +-----------------------------------------------------+--------------+---+

So, Nirvana is statistically close to DT, on this chart. :)

And, while we're on the topic of Alternajunk, let's not forget that YES and
QUEENSRYCHE can still sell out arenas. At least, in the Bay Area they can.
I doubt that all those people filling up the San Jose Arena were either 1)
die hard Sharks fans just camping out, or 2) Type-O-Negative fans.

    >metal/prog bands now a days... the times they are a changin'., yes sir :)

I agree. The "pure" phase of completely innane Alt. is ending, and brains
are starting to seep back in. I can only hope that DT makes it big, and
everyone suddenly starts liking intelligent music. Just think, people like
intelligent music, people get more intelligent, all the world's problems are
    solved, all becaue of DT!

Hm. Don't post when you have a cold, Chris (thhat's me!) Maybe I should go
    have some more NyQuil.

Finally, the mystery is solved. But, I don't think an operation is
absolutely neccessary. If he waits, it'll just pass.

Sorry, but while I have no plans to buy a Hootie album, I'd buy one before
buying 90% of alternative bands, inlcuding anything by Pearl Jam after "10"

They may not be DT, but at least they sound like something other than a
bunch of pissed off 12 year olds. They remind me of 80's mainstream rock,
Bruce Springsteen, etc. Not cutting edge, put pleasant to the ear. You
know, something you can sing along to without worrying about "oh no, I might
be hitting the notes in tune and therefore not be singing like the singer!"

In short, I do not turn the radio dial when Hootie comes on. That's a big
credit to them, IMW. (= In My World)

But, then, I do hold some very unpopular opinions, as some of the bands whom
I _do_ turn the dial on include: The Doors, Hendrix, Grateful Dead,
(Anything else from the Psychedellic Era), U2, etc. This list does not
include Alternacrud, which would make the list far too long.

Well obviously some people like merlo can't put 2 and 2 together. Talk
    about ignorance.

"99% of alternative bands have no talent whatsoever."
--for those who can't understand: this means 1% are good/have talent

"OK, I do admit that I like some alternative bands."
--once again:this means that I like the 1% who are good and have talent

    Do you understand merlo?

1% = some; maybe I should have said a few, or a couple, or what?

This is all my opinion. merlo has stated his opinion by cussing me out
    because of my opinion.

There is really nothing else which needs to be said about this, BUT I
know that merlo will have to have the last word. Yep, mr brainchild will
have to have the last word. What will merlo call me this time?

Be a man, merlo and give it a rest.

I personally don't care if I am closed minded beacuse I think Hootie sucks. I
agree everyone should be open minded....to try things. I'll have a problem
with closed minds when it comes to race, religion, politics...major stuff. But
pop music? What a waste of time to be politically correct. But, still, let me
clarify. Liking Hootie as background music is no sin. To consider them
anything more than that might require pyschological help. "cept for you Ernie.

I mean, I hate the Greateful Dead with a passion (more the whole culture), but
I respect the hell out of them as creative, learned musicians. See the

    Hello Jammers,

    Just a thought...

The music industry may finally be realizing that it is futile to try to
please the masses. (let me finish) Note that Hootie/Blowfish, Dave
Matthews, Blues Traveller, Tori Amos, Phish, and similar bands with some
popularity are splintering the music industry. With the advent of high
speed electronics, shitloads of music will be able to be pumped to
everyone/anywhere, bands will be able to find their fanbase hiding in a
niche somewhere, over the internet or cable. It seems that popular music
has become something of an enigma. A lot of the pop fans of the 1980s
listen to country now, country has become a lot more pop oriented and
dropped some of the bluegrass influence. R&B is becoming very bland,
Heavy Metal is going in the direction of prog-metal (technical metal,
Watchtower, Merciful Fate) or off into Alternative Metal (Alice in
Chains, Soundgarden). The genres of music are all becoming accessable,
eventually a prog band may break through, but the point is that the
access to music of all kinds is increasing, more stores, points of sale,
internet, buy over the phone. It doesn't matter what you are making in
terms of music, soon people will be able to get a hold of it.
Problem, yes MTV how become as pompus as hell, as Rolling Stone
magazine. Radio has gone to country or alternative rock formats. (this
seems to be the experience around here) As more and more cable channels
sprout up, someone will start a prog channel (a couple of r.m.p newsgroup
people were working on something like this, though the availability would
probably be very limited), and there are already some prog radio shows,
and better yet, a few free-form radio stations are sprouting up.
Basically there are becoming so many voices, so much music that the
people who usually follow the trends will have to make decisions. Bands
are coming and going from the spotlight so fast that fans have to listen
to keep up. This is my take as a reviewer of Independent Label music, a
fan of music, and a jammer. I think the future of music is bright, and
hopefully the industry will learn that making lots of different kinds of
music available to the public and promoting it is a good way to make
    money. Diversity is good.

    Later,

    Mike

no. if we just stand around nothing will ever happen to change it.
*IF* on the other hand, people work at it, long and hard, and get lots
and lots and lots of other people interested, a difference could be
made. ok Mike, you work at a radio station, why dont you slip a
certain song in every once in a while you think people might dig?
eventually, if you get it out enough, and people start to recognize it
and even enjoy it, you may get some calls "hey what is that? play it

I think this is a really kool idea for the people who won't be able to make

Hey there, my fellow Jammers. I was just thinking: I heard someone here mention that the reason
the memberes of DT are not on the Net is because they aren't very computer-literate. Now, assuming
this is true: 1) Does DT still live in Long Island? If they do, then 2) I know some people on the
Jam live in Long Island (Augie's the only one that comes to mind at the time), so at the Ytse-Con,
how about one (or some) of the L.I. area Jammers offer DT to help get them set up on the Net? I'm
sure the Jammer would be willing to spend a few days in the presence of The Boys (at their HOUSE,
too!). How about it? Offer to subscribe them to the Jam. I'm sure they'd say yes, unless they're
really busy w/the new album or something. Oh, and if someone does do this, I'd like an autographed
photo of the band as a reward for my great idea... :) Oh, and please let me know if any of the
assumptions here are wrong... I'm sure you would have even if I hadn't included that, tho... :)

    Later,
