One comment. Who ever wrote that thing about you roommate and all that
work he did. Is you roommate a college student? I think so.
This is Dream Theater's (that's a drink right, Jeff?) livihood. They want
this as much as we do. I think Dream Theater likes the hard work, why
the hell would some damn guitarist run around doing clinics, writing a 110
minute long album, and making a video game, unless he didn't want to.
(And expects to have this all done by the fall!! :)
These guys want this, we want it, IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!

Well to sum up all the Helloween opinions on the jam, any Helloween cd is
a good place to start... I suppose I will have to get one of the new ones
and the old...
******
I say no to the double cd thing too. I think that is going a little
overboard. ACOS was a song that had been around awhile. It is a lot
different from a double cd. A single cd would sell a lot better than a
double cd would. I say let Mike Bahr release some of the outtakes. I mean
he said he the cd prices might drop drastically soon.

Hey Bafu, I haven't said anything about al balkewicz ripping me off for
quite awhile. And I dont plan on doing anymore. So give it a rest ok. You
can just satisfy your need for laughing at people, who get ripped off in
boot trades, somewhere else...
Also, although it has been over a year, al kept promising all along to
send me the tapes, that is up until a few months ago. So what was wrong
with trying to find out what was up and how to contact him. I gave him
the benefit of the doubt.

I've decided to get off of this mailing list. I find that there is
to many people that make opinion based statements reguarding different
bands' talent. Whether something is good or bad is a persons
interpretation. Just because a bands music isn't a difficult as DT's
doesn't mean that their not good.
P.S. Someone wise once said something reguarding music "A critic is
someone who isn't talented enough to be a musician"

O-kay. To answer some more questions. I was at the clinic
and heard some of the new stuff. It was all phenomanal
stuff. I did not hear anything I would consider "weak". I
would be dissapointed to have to miss some of this material
because it was constrained do to lack of label support for a
double disc set. I mean John said write the label. If the
band does not want to a double disc set or the label won't
support it, they won't do it anyway. So what does it hurt to
ask? Its not like the band is going to say, "I hate the
Ytsejam now because they asked for a double set." They are
going to do what the label and the band thinks is best, no
matter what we think. Its just nice to show some support and
there is a possibility that this could happen. I really do
not see what the big deal is about sending the petition. I
actually talked to EastWest on the phone today and the
production manager's assistant thinks its a great idea to
send the petition. Its not her decision, she is in charge of
production and distribution. But she thought it was cool
that we are doing this. She also told me to make sure the
petition is sent with attention to Dereck Oliver, who is DT
A&R man. I think the idea of a Guns&Roses use you illusion
double release would be a good idea though. That way people
can choose whether to buy one or two discs. Come on people.
what does it hurt to put your name on a petition? Its not
like DT is going to put all the names on their "Shit List"
and never support the jam. they will either do it or not.
Besides, ask yourself this question, "Why did John Petrucci
actually mention this at the clinic if he did not feel it was
a decent idea." Some friend of Jeff Chew's also told me last
night that Derek Sherinian also mentioned the idea to them
awhile ago.

DT doing a double CD would in my opinion be a bad move right now. I'm
sure that *all* of us would love 2 CD's worth of music to be released,
but right now there are some other priorities the band should be worrying
about... getting *a* CD out by the end of year to satisfy all us greedy
bastards for one. :) Touring would probably come in there at some point
as well.
The way I read the post about JP's clinic, he was saying that they had
pieces of about 20 songs written... not 20 songs written from start to
finish and ready to be laid down in the studio. I'm sure those 20 songs
are probably going to be reworked quite a bit, combined in some cases,
have lyrics added or fixed, etc. I think they'd be better off
concentrating on getting one album's worth of kick-ass material together
than trying to polish up everything in their working repertoire for a
double CD set. The left overs can surface later or elsewhere...
Releasing a double CD set would be a bad marketing move on their part
most likely as well... others have already stated this before. Rather
than doing a double CD set, they could do something along the Use Your
Illusion lines, or release 2 CD's within a short span... either of those
would make more marketing sense for them.
Just some thoughts...

This guy sounds like a real winner: "there is to many people"
"their not good"
I am talented enough to be a musician, and it is an insult to my kind
when some justifies listening to shitty bands as "their interpretation".
Sure, everyone is entitled to an interpretation. The interpretation of
competent musicians generally says that alternative is garbage.
Don't accuse me of ignorance because I crticize.

Well, actually I heard from Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian that
Metropolis II won't be on the new album. Oh well, who knows? Things
change all the time.
And, with the thing where John P. didn't hear about the convention, the band
is usually the last to know about these things. As far as I know, the
only band member who is aware of the YtseCon III is Derek. Otherwise,
the others have no way of finding out until management tells them.
Oh well, on with the jam!

here's the information:
The band that will be playing is Ethyl Mertz. The people who will be
playing are Al Pitrelli, Greg Smith, Derek Sherinian, and other special
guests. This will be in Elwood, at the People's Bar and Grill. It's off
Jericho Turnpike on Cuba Hill Road. May 10th, no cover charge!
Well, that's it! I'll TTYL!

Just a couple? Why not a Yngwie's dozen? (that's the average number of sixteenth notes Yngwie uses in his solos, which happens to be 143)
Ex: "I need some Fender mediums." "Okay, how many? Two? Three?" "No, I need a bunch." "A dozen then? Two dozen?" "Nah, I mean a LOT, man. Like enough to fill the back of my amp." "Hmm. Sounds like you need a Yngwie's dozen." "A Yngwie's dozen... Yeah, that oughta do it."

Interesting how you mention the original four. ;>
Why is it there haven't been any other "alternative" or "grunge" bands who have had the same impact or longevity of these bands? A point to ponder.

Man, you hit the head on the nail here (hmm, that would hurt, wouldn't it?). Seriously, I ask myself this question all the time. Sometimes I even wonder if there's something wrong with my musical tastes, because I almost always seem to be disappointed with a followup album after an album that I absolutely fall in love with. Awake after I&W, Empire after Operation Mindcrime, anything after Van Halen (except maybe 5150, but everything after that sucks too), and other examples I can't think of right now. I guess I just can't help but compare new material to the older material, no matter how hard I try. I never really got into ACOS because it just didn't match up to the Subcon version in my mind.
I guess I'm just wierd...

Actually, I agree 100%. DT would have a hard time attracting non die-hards to a new album that cost upwards of $25. Besides, if I read some other posts correctly about JP's info, it sounded to me that they had 20 songs worth of material, not actually 20 songs in finished condition. After they rework some things and throw out the slop, 1 CD will probably be just right. And it will be fantastic!
