Please stop re-sending the Ytse & Jam scenarios. We went throught that once.
How 'bout those interested writing to Bafu or whomever and asking for them off
the list. They were kinda funny once.

Concerning the double CD.....I put some thougths in earlier, but did it sound
like Petrucci WANTED to do a double CD? Or was it just like, "Write the label
if you'd like to see one."?

Finally, my acid jazz band's demo is done and we hope to be playing out in the
Chicago area by late May or so. I'm trying to convert our keyboard player
(BTW, I noticed no one of his three keyboards have internal speakers :) ),
into a DT fan. Wish me luck! LATER-

    Steve

Ok, how many Ytsejammers want to get $50 in free money? (yes real money).
Through this program I am in, I can send you an application through
US snail mail for a VISA card that has no annual fee, a low interest rate,
and the info about the $50....

If you are interested, email me your snail mail address right away with
    a subject of "send-visa-app" .

OBLIG DT CONTENT - While I just signed up for the petition to have DT release
a 2 CD set this fall, I have to kind of agree with the pundits who say
it would be marketing suicide at this point. Once again, I would **love**
to have the 2 CD set released, but quite frankly, if the band wants to bring new
fans aboard they have to appeal to the masses. [that's a scary though - JP

a flannel shirt with the sleeves cut off..] [JLB wearning a "korn" shirt

hahaha :) But seriously, i don't think the record company is going to go
    for it,
and if they do, it might mean that DT gets dropped and relegated to CMC
    records. :) ]

Here is the deal. I just got off the phone with Dereck
Oliver, He is DT A&R guy. He said to not send in the
petition because EastWest's contract with DT forbids them
from doing a double disc set at this time. so forget the
petition. Mr. Oliver did say it was a very gracious effort
on our part and to thank everyone involved. He said there
will be over 70 minutes of music on the new CD and that
everything else will most definately be released as B-sides
on various Japanese, English, and American singles. so
everything will probably be available somehow he assured me.
He then went on to ask me if I had their managements number
and he gave me that. He was very helpful and he took the
time to answer all of my questions. He seemed like a pretty
cool guy. He also said that management should be willing to
answer any questions we might have about the band and that
they should be gracious enough to take time with us.
Jeff Chew, have you been in touch with DT's
management about the band coming to the con yet? Because
JOhn Petrucci told me Wednesday at the clinic he knows
    nothing about it yet.

I thought up some nice simularities between my two favourite bands,
    Marillion & Dream Theater.

First off I want to say I love DT as much as I love Marillion
(and Tori Amos), although Marillion's concert in Utrecht (Holland)
last monday almost tipped the scale... The were fucking brilliant...
Best show I've ever seen (musically) and I've seen lot's of them
(Including Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, QR, VH, ELO, BonJovi, Fish,
Pet Shop Boys <-hehe!)... Well, maybe it was my favourite concert
    along with that YES-gig... (ABWH + SRKW <- !!!)

    Here are the simularities:

Can we please stop dumping on Chuckie D. ?

    > The ONLY problem I had with WDADU, besides Charlie's voice,
    > was the production.

I agree about the production of WDADU... It sux... It Really sux
IMO, It sounds like some low-quality demo-bootleg

I've been a DT fan from WDADU on ('89). *I* didn't get into DT after
seeing Pull Me Under on MTV. A friend of mine taped his brothers copy
of WDADU for me in '89... After listening to it for a couple of days,
it became one of my all-time favourite albums.
I really loved DT... and that included Charlie Dominici...

Shortly after WDADU's release Charlie left (I've heard some rumors why,
but I'm not gonna list them now). DT also lost their record deal...
I thought, "That's the end of yet another brilliant prog-band..."

After 2 years a friend of mine (who I turned into a DT-fan too) came
across Images & Words. He bought 2 copies (one for him, one for me)...
I didn't even know they were still together... Didn't know that they
were auditioning singers etc.... But there it was !

Although I like Images & Words much much better than WDADU (AND Awake)
WDADU will always be a special album to me... including Dominici's
    vocals...

If Derek turns out to be much much better than Kevin, will the next
generation of DT-fans start dumping on him too ? :-)

BTW, Why do we talk about all those (alternative) bands we DON'T like,
when we could be talking about ONE band we ALL LOVE !?!

    Oh Yeah,
I'm not flaming anyone, I don't wanna start a Chuckie vs Kevin thread,
it's just something that has been on my mind the last couple of weeks...

First off... Sorry about posting four times in a row...
I just started typing and before I knew it, I had four posts
ready to be send out... At least I tried to put some DTC in the first
    three...

    > someone write a program to keep count of the times it doesn't appear??
    >
    > Corey E. Cleary

Well, I tried to write a program that counts how many times a message
from "Corey E. Cleary" appears on the jam... I started out by using an
'Integer' for the counter-variable... I got an OVERFLOW-error
(the largest number that'll fit in an Integer is 32768)... Damn...

I'm just kidding Corey... (or am I?)

Anyway, does anyone know where that "RESPONSE at IBMMAIL"-thing
comes from ? It's not on the Freaks Mailing list (Marillion)...
Does it appear when a perticular person posts ? (that's my guess)

Firstly, "perfectly safe?!" That "stage" was a three-foot-high large rectangular table. Anyone within five feet of that platform was fully capable of grabbing James' leg. But DT fans in general aren't ravenous, so it's very rare that you'll see a Kip Winger episode at a DT show. (Kip was wearing those cool tiger-print purple scarves around his ankles during the "Heart Of The Young" tour. a girl grabbed one. one girl became two, two became ten, before you know it poor Kip was being dragged into the crowd. dang scarves. can't trust 'em. probably why Agassi stopped wearing them.)

Secondly, James wasn't worried, he was concerned for the front row of people who were being smashed against the stage for the whole first half of the show. James asked the security guards to move the crowd back so the front row would have an easier time moving, breathing, etc. Portnoy even ran out and gave one of them a drumstick in between the frantically shouting/arm-thrusting security guards. Anyone who was at the show should remember this. Were you there, Graham?

ok so would you rather have us just sit around all nice and happy and have absofuckinglutely nothing ever remotely exciting happen??! Come on man, its all in fun, stating opinions n stuff is what makes us think about the other side of the story, we're all very different, its very cool, but we manage, its not about hostility towards difference, we share one thing at least in common - Dream Theater.

on that note- i'm for this double cd thing. They already have a pretty good fan base, and i know whatever they put out we'll all buy, and, as in the case of Ozzy's Live n Loud, maybe DT could do a 1 disc sampler for the new album for everyone who's too cheap for the double, or doesnt know enough about DT yet. Oooorrrrr mmmaaaybbe they could do a GnR illusions thing, release two separate discs.

thats about it for now. ~Rip

hello there- it's your friendly neighborhood wild koba here. i haven't read the past 10 jams or so because i've had one roller coaster ass week that also revolved around my "godspell" tour of duty (me on 7 string, drums, and keys- and it sounds really good!). on top of that, i have to prepare a piece for a percussion ensemble gig in 4 days and i have yet to look at the music.

regardless, i assume i have missed a lot of shit. someone (?!?!) emailed me about petrucci and porntoy doing a clinic up in albany (?). oh well. just make sure someone boots it.

a dt double cd, huh? that would be cool. hey- it could be a rock opera! "the life and times of bafu vai." starring dave kobayashi as a younger kevin moore, who then morphs into an old fat version of jp.

sounds fun to me. they could write a song with the names of various ytsejammers.

    1) waltz of the crack smoking bafu vais. 2) metropolis 2- the digital man and dougherty 3) learning to air dance (hiya, jen- long time no speak. hope things be cool) 4) a change of ytsecon locations and lastly, 5) space-dye kobayashi

anyways. um, we started covering prog in my rock history class today. he started with the moody blues "...white satin." he broke down prog into three types (he also called it art rock). i don't remember the EXACT qualifications for each (that makes me a bad ta, but oh well).

art rock i- songs with orchestral instruments used. he mentioned the beatles and "yesterday."

art rock ii- certain aspects of classical forms used. again. beatles, "sgt. pepper" and the 2nd half of "abbey road."

art rock ii- i forgot what he said here, but this is where the balls and chunk lay.

i brought in (and he played) some genesis ("lamb"), and of course, the obligatory "roundabout". he did a good job explaining the virtuosity needed to play some of the stuff, and also the cool vocal counterpoint stuff at the end he mentioned in depth.

we ran out of time, and he said he'd play more stuff. i also had some crimson, elp, rush, and when he talks about some modren-day prog, i'm going to play for the class a bit of ltl.

well. must go. peace out, g's, and keep the crack goin'.

    love, storm shadow
