I apologize ahead time to the rest of the jam, but I needed to publicly defend my honor
against the plight of a pointless obnoxious flame from someone who seems to have a
little too much time on their hands, and also seems to be looking for a helpless victim
to target in order to keep him/her self from feeling so pathetic...so here it is, quotes
    and my reply....

    > talented...I've liked some of their stuff....but I HAVE to love
    > QR and DT to be getting the point of progressive music..?????

FIRST of all, that's NOT what I said. I said IN MY HUMBLE OPINION if you love DT but
hate QR you are missing the point. I NEVER said you HAVE TO LOVE QR or DT.

    > Buster, Dave, or whatever the useless phrase they call you...

At first I typed an insult in reply to this statement, but then I realized what a petty
little childish world someone must be living in to remark this way to someone's peaceful
opinion in a post. Why bother...

    > Listen to me and listen good.....DONT make blanket statements
    > like that!
    > People are proud of the music they like and proud of the music
    > they dislike, and you can not tell them they are missing the point!

I love it when people blatantly contradict themselves. So, according to Mojodik, I can't
express my opinion about people knocking on QR, but he CAN make the rules and tell
people what they can or can't post.

    > What is a real kick in the ***, is that you are probably a
    > sophmore or so in high school, and you are trying to explain 'what it's
    > all about' to people you don't know about.

    > longer than you, and I think I know what its about...I dont need your
    > pomposity to shine through and try to explain your **** stinking

    >

Welp Mojo, for someone who seems to think they are all grown up and worldly and stuff,
you sure are showing us just how immature you are by flaming me for defending QR a
little. Here are some facts that you might want to take note of before spouting nonsense
    about me in the jam:

I'm 27 years old, started playing in progressive rock bands when I was 12, and started
playing live shows at the age of 15, touring at age 16. My first INTERNATIONAL tour was
at age 19. I've played for crowds ranging from 17 to 17,000 people. I'm featured on a 2
song EP in south america, on which one of the songs was #1 on the charts in Argentina
for 3 months in 1990. I was on a tour bus travelling the world before most of the people
in this newsletter were out of high school. I also came from a poor family and started
working for a living at age 16, so don't start handing me some bullshit about how you
think I'm some young college punk who had it easy. I left the music business in 1992,
worked my self through college, and I now work 75 hours a week in a full time consulting
career. I bought my first album (Rush 2112) at age 11. If you want to flame someone and
directly talk down to them in open forum, you've chosen the wrong fucking person.

The post I made about QR and DT was to try to end the war...the senseless talk about who
is better and who sucks compared to who. My only point (which most of the intellegent
jammers knew already) was that both bands are great, and pitting them against each other
    was pointless and confining.

Your opinion of Queensryches last album and DT is your right, but my post was my opinion
about Queensryche and DT....and because I posted my opinion about both bands, you have
deemed yourself righteous and authority enough to call me useless??? You just posted
your opinion! Does that mean I have the right to call you Mojodik instead of Mojoman???

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION If you were a true progressive fan, you WOULD see the direction
that QR was trying to take with the last album, and that the songs are about inner pain,
and the subconcious self, which is what DT's lyrics often deal with. Maybe it's possible
that YOU are like some of the sophmores in high school who don't look below the surface
when they lsiten to a band...maybe you don't even have a clue as to what the songs are
about on Promised Land, which is why you say it "blew dog". Maybe you were just hoping
for something nice and poppy that you could snap your fingers to and not have to use a
single brain cell to understand. DO I HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASSUME ALL OF THIS ABOUT YOU???
    NO I DON'T!!!

And YOU Mojo, have no fucking right whatsoever to assume you know enough about me to
post direct personal dirogetory comments about who you think I am. My original post was
NOT a personal attack on anyone. It was a genereal expression of my musical beliefs.
Your post was a direct attack on a fellow DT fan (something I'm beginning to wonder if
you really are), right down to personally insulting my user ID for NO REASON! What
reason do you have for ragging on me???? Man, you have got me fucking pissed.

buster (yeah, that useless user id)

As you may have noticed, I made some claims (reluctantly) about my
musical career ina a recent rebuttle to someone who felt the need to
personally attack me for a post I made full of "IMHO's". I even made sure
to capitalize the "IN MY HUMBLE OPINION" part for the idiots that just
scan messages looking for someone to attack, but it didn't help in this
    case.

    Anyway, my point:

I'm expecting some email from people who do not believe the claims I made
about my music career, so let me save those people some time. Email me if
you feel you need proof, and I will supply everything from magazines and
video's, to my passport and dates of the tours. (at your expense of
    course) :)

I've been seeing quite a few "I played DT for someone and they ripped it to
shreds" type of posts (and I've been tempted at times to post one of my own).
And it got me thinking.... What if the situation were reversed? What if
someone were to play a selection of music for you that you didn't like and
you responded with, what is in their opinion, a stupid comment? Just because
we're DT fans doesn't mean we're above that. I will freely admit to have
reacted with much vitriol to some music that people have played for me. I'm
sure each and every one of you have as well, at one point.

Think about how someone feels when you slam their favorite music. I'm sure
it's the same way you feel when someone slams DT. I'm not saying that you're
closed-minded if you don't like a certain type of music, but to someone who
likes a certain kind of music that you don't particularly care for, saying
that it sucks is probably going to earn you some demerits in that persons
    eyes.

So, lemme share with you a personal rule - I never say anything sucks, no
matter how much I can't stand to listen to it. Sorry if I'm getting nitpicky
about semantics here, but it's MHO. Suckage is lack of talent, merit, etc.
You are condemning something by saying it sucks. I'm sorry if it doesn't
please you, but musicians don't exist to please you specifically. If their
job is to please you, and they fail, then, yeah, they suck. But that's not
a musician's job. I'm not saying that we should never express dislike for a
certain band or genre, but rather, we should express it in a more
intelligent, more accurate way. Sure, you may not like country music, while
still respecting its existence, but you're not expressing that sentiment
properly when you say, "country sucks." Now, if you wanted to come off as a
narrow-minded idiot, yeah, go right ahead and say,
"such-and-such-a-style-of-music or such-and-such-a-band sucks." Strike that
word from your vocabulary if you're going to talk about music, or anything
that is almost purely subjective for that matter.

A musicians write music to please themselves, first and foremost. Along the
way, people who share a similar aesthetic will be pleased with what that
    musician does.

So as much as many of you might not like country, rap, alternative, techno,
etc, think before you speak. Someone who is into country music as much as
any of us are into DT is going to be severely offended by a statement like,
"country music sucks!" Just as any of us feel at least the least bit miffed
when someone says, "uh, is this, like, glam rock or something?"

BTW, give it another shot. (all I can do is suggest it.. Take it, or tell
me to shove it up my ass) Sure, there are still some whiners, but there are
plenty of country singers who *do not* whine and sing about losing their job,
their house, or their pickup truck, etc. The lyrics are far from vapid and
soulless, and their meanings are a helluva lot easier to figure out. ;)
This goes for any other type of music you may not have liked at first. Put
aside your first impressions and prejudices for a moment, and just listen.

Thanks for sticking with me this long without skipping over it.

Welcome back DreamNDay... sorry to break the news to you...
You've been kicked of the nr. 1 spot of the Most Frequent Poster top-10.
    Here's the top-3...

      | Name | MFE | Posts
--+----------------------+-----+------ (MFE = most frequent endings)
    1 | response@ibmmail.com | 1 | 230 Good thing you didn't stay in
    2 | DreamNDay | 6 | 180 France a little longer... You
    3 | Damon M. Fibraio | 4 | 156 would have dropped to nr. 3 !

Disclaimer: I'm not making fun of (or flaming) Brian... CU-on-IRC buddy!

I'll post a top ten of this months Jam's in a few days, if it's ok with
you guys (let me know if you don't want it)...

I've tried to make a "Most Frequent Flamer"-list but my pc couldn't
handle it... Yesterday, I put in another 8Mb of RAM (now it has 16Mb),
    that didn't help either...

Anyway, we've gotta get rid of that spam-thing too, otherwise I'm gonna
have to get a bigger harddisk as well... Maybe I'll have to write an
option in my program that allows post-moderation (e.g. deletes messages
I want to get rid of). I'll probably end up with just ONE digest, containing
that ONE DTC-message *I* sent, about the samples on 'The Mirror', after
deleting all the flames, spams and NDTC-posts... :(

I'm sorry to say this (never thought I *would* say this, actually)...
but I think it's about time the Jam got moderated again...
Or maybe, if someone's acting like a complete ass again, we can put it
to a vote whether or not we're gonna kick him/her of the list...

At this point I'd like to remind you guys of the note we all got after
    subscribing to The Jam:

    > AUTOMATIC UNSUBSCRIPTION
    > ------------------------
    >
    > I will unsubscribe you if one of the following happens:
    >
    > 1) I get "User Unknown" or other bounces from your site for
    > 3 consecutive days
    >
    > 2) You receive a warning and ignore it.
    >
    > You'll receive a warning if you spam the list with an unrelated
    > ad (Olga, incense sticks, etc). You'll not receive one for
    > posting ads for stuff related to the list (albums, etc).

Nr. 2 should take care of all the spam on The Jam...
I'd like to see these added to the message :

        3) If you flame someone and don't have the good sense to take it
           to private e-mail.

        4) If your .sig takes up an entire screen (or more)

        5) If you start a thread on religion, or spread a rumor of any
DT-member or other musician being gay.

        6) If you post three times (or more) in a row, quoting other
people and adding just one line of your own.

Anyone else got any ideas ?
We could turn this into the "Ten Ytse Commandments"
    (no religious stuff intended)

I can see people just writing and nominating their favourite songs.
If I were doing a tape of DT, I would put all their "extremes" on as
well. For example, "The Mirror" and "Silent Man", "PMU" and "AD", "ACoS"
and "WFS" (the longest and shortest song?). I would say that TTT would be
essential to any DT compilation tape (probably cos it's my fave).
    Possibly "Matter Of Time", "Metropolis".

    Hello all--

I want to set something straight about this 2 CD thing and DT's new
material. This all started from reports from the Akron clinic and some of
these are incorrect. Please, don't think I'm flaming anybody, because . . .
    well, I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
But seriously, John said that by the end of the writing process they
WOULD have 20 songs done. They don't have that many written yet. I'm all for
a double CD or releasing two CD's if the material is good.

    Thanks,

I think the key here...is why on earth, do people open their
    traps..?

The phrase IMHO is NOT a license for people to make
    stupid blanket statements...

If you're gonna say something stupid...don't say it...just
because you say IMHO, do you think Im gonna look at it and go..."ok, I
    its just his opinion"
Now in some situations, that would be fine....for example:

"IMHO, I think Dream Theater rules"

Now this on the other hand, is not fine, because while you're stating
an opinion, you are also stating a really pushy blanket statement:

"IMHO, You are missing the point of progressive music if you don't
listen to Dream Theater AND Queensryche!"

OK...now that the lesson is over,
If you can't take the fucking flame then get out of the
kitchen...we've all been flamed for things we've said...don't cry like a
baby, calling everyone immature just to hide your own immaturity...Not
    too smart!

    *******************

    Next topic....

I have to address this because, someone said something equally
    stupid....

           The end to all my messages reads... "M O J O M A N S P E A K S"

The reason for this is simple....

How many people have longer sig files than messages! The sig
files are getting out of hand...this is my sig file...
Only MY sig file, and it is my sig file.....

    DOES that sink in yet?!?!?!?!?!

When I end a message, I place a sig file of 13 chars...
Its my sig file....Only my sig file (but syrinx can use it too cause
    he's cool like dat)

Probably not. I haven't had any problems finding any of the other tribute
albums, they're ususally just stuck in with that particular band's stuff.
So I expect the Rush tribute to pop up in Rush bins fairly regularly.

Now, getting the CDs for Magna Carta's bands is another story!

I'm sure the _band_ would be thrilled that we show an interest in hearing
everything they deem good enough to compose, but they're not the ones we
have to convince. EastWest is. And in addition to the arguements already
presented as to why they won't do it, another one is that they put
themselves in a very bad position if they "give in" to us again. That would
be two albums in a row where they made marketing decisions simply because
the mailing list "demanded" it. If they release the double CD (or two CD's
separately), then they're saying that WE dictate what the band releases. We
could ask for an all-polka album, and the record company would have no
logical reason to turn us down. :) Listening to us once was okay, but I
highly doubt they want to make a habit of it.

    Hi Jammers,

I've been lurking for about a month now and thought it was about time I made
an entrance. A few details first: I am 31 years old, married with a son and
am, for want of a better description, a material scientist. I play guitar
and am a big fan of Rush/DT/Yes/Zep - the list goes on.

I've been a DT fan for only a couple of years now. I was (sort of)
introduced to DT by Neil Elliott (Hi Neil!), who runs the I&W UK fanzine, on
a trip to the US for the first two shows of the Rush Counterparts tour. I
then bought I&W and was blown away. Unfortunately I haven't seen the band
live yet as the prospective UK tour to support Awake was cut to one show in
London by the gutless promoters :-( .

Like the NMS, it seems the Jam has, er... shall we say, *lively* debates
from time to time! To jump in feet first; I think Mort's response to Damon's
post about the LTL intro was WAY, WAY out of order - shame on you. Equally,
Damon then went a bit OTT with his retaliation, though he was obviously
    severely provoked. Cool it guys.

As for the double CD debate, personally I don't see anything wrong in
lobbying EastWest for a double CD release of new material. The 'concept' of
the double album has sort of faded away with the longer album length of the
CD, but I don't see why DT shouldn't be allowed to release such an album.
I'm sure that the record company would argue about costs, profit margins,
etc, but it's worth a shot.

BTW, how many UK Jammers are their?

Well, I think that's enough for now.

    Later,
