Hi all! First of all, excuse the lack of DT content.. but i had to check
something. Does anyone know the band Rhythm Corps.? I recently found out that
their second album "The future's not what it used to be" is no longer in print,
and I would like to get another copy of it. So, if any of you have this cd and
could part with it please let me know!

Also, does anyone know what happened to these guys?

DTC: Does anyone know if there is a Video in the works for the AWAKE tour? (as
    in Live in Tokyo)?

    See ya!

hmmm, you know, you made me think for a while with this. well, i guess
i'd like them to go instrumental, sort of YtseJam. Cuz i doubt there is
a singer that makes so MUCH sense with DT as La'Brie does. Just an
    opinion, later!

No, this is not another newcomer aasking what prog is. Instead, I've decided to put together a web page with a bunch of different people's definitions of prog. After all, prog means different things to different people, right?

Let me know via personal mail, DO NOT post to the 'Jam.

Since King's X was mentioned so many times in the past jams, I bought "Faith, love, hope" and I don't like it that much. I just can't get into the harmonized vocals. But I want to thank the jam for recommending Savatage and Fates Warning.

I still haven't finished listening to Antiquities and Scenes because I kept skipping over the vocal auditions, they're funny, James is obviously the right choice for DT. Great job Mike! I really like the art work for Scenes.

PS: Last I checked, the DT fan network only has less than 5 females, how sad. Maybe I should check again to see if it is more now.

I say, "Go all-instrumental, baby!!!!!!" Lyrics are, of course, optional. They could still publish lyrics for each song, but every fan would have to figure out how to sing 'em...hehehehe...I like that idea:). That's just me, I guess. I just have a thing against lyrics and singing in general, and I like to cut down on that stuff in the music I buy.

I think he could handle it (I totally dig his job on "Perfect Strangers"), though I kind of dig what I have heard from "Skunkworks," so maybe staying with that project would be best for him, but since we're talking hypothetically, Bruce is probably the one. If anyone's going to be at the St. Louis KX/GC show, I'll be there. E-mail me privately if you want to hook up. Later.

I always assumed the roses on the front and back covers of ACOS represented "Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May" from Portnoy's lyrics. He is credited with the artwork concepts as well.

i like jon more than zak. no doubt about it. since jon writes everything and he knows whats going on deep inside the lyrics he really clicks into the song. the emotion when he sings is amazing... he practically cries lines at times. i dont find his voice hard to bear at all. zak has a wonderful voice, i dig his vocals on the tage albums too, but he concentrates more on making the sound perfect, it doesnt come out as much. i also gotta say i think jon still did a great job on DWD. Doesnt matter anyway is my favorite track on the cd. =)

    > I usually enjoy music for the intrumentation, but I just can't ignore > vox that bad. I'm glad he quit.

as ed said, he didnt quit. and he still writes everything. he plays a bit of guitar and does all the keyboards. and yes, he IS savatage. just because you dont like his singing dont say you want him out of the band because he's the one bringing you all the songs still. quite an amazing guy eh? :) ~Rip

    Hey, I'll keep this short:

I would be willing to make mix tapes for people for no cost outside of that of a tape. The only problem is I have limited time. If I can pull this together, I know I have stuff some of the jammers would want to hear. Tell ya what... anyone interested, write me personally.

Ray Alder would be my pick for a new singer in DT if they ever needed one. He's the closest thing to LaBrie that I've heard. Any other opinions?

Anacrusis man, listen up: (Or woman... I didn't recall the name)

E mail me personally. I know where I can get used copies of some of their stuff on CD. I'll buy it for you (if it still exists where i last saw it) if you'll agree to pay me back. Write me.

    Jammers:

I was trying to compile a definitive list of the tunes DT has covered. Below is what I have so far. Most of these are clearly from the Ronnie Scotts gig, but I'd appreciate it if you could peruse your bootleg collections (or any coherent memories you might have of DT's live shows), and send me any additions or corrections at <anthem@virginia.edu>.

For instance, a few things I need to know:

    1. I heard somewhere that DT covered Rush's "YYZ", but I don't know if they played the whole thing or just the intro or something.

    2. I heard that they played Tori Amos's "Song For Eric", but it obviously wasn't dedicated to Eric Rosse... it was to someone else, and I don't know who.

    3. Pardon my pre-"Achtung Baby" ignorance, but that U2 song that wraps up Subcon-- what the hell is the title? Is it "Bad" or "Wide Awake In America" or what? I hope Bono isn't on the Jam, otherwise I'm dogmeat...

    Thanks,

If you don't like KX hit delete! Saw the show again last night, which for me was a first. I have never seen a band on tour two shows in a row, and it was interesting to see how things can be different. For example, the show in DC was attended (in my observation) by more hard-core KX fans, and the tone set forth by both band and crowd was more serious then was the case last night in Pasadena. It seemed like many fans were at the second show because, "hey, there's a concert tonight!" The tone of this show was much more loose and the band showed it. Doug seemed to be suffering from a dry/sore throat because he was giving it a spray all the time last night, which wasn't the case the night before. Over My Head night one vs. Over My Head night two were like (pardon the pun) Night and Day. DC's version was like a spiritual revival with complete crowd interaction and some soulful improv by Doug. Pasadena's OMH lacked as much crowd interaction and was much less of a religious experience. Ty was fooling around much more night two, and even submitted to a few moron's requests by playing the opeing bars to "Breaking the Law," "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Stairway to Heaven." not to mention "Hawaii 5-0." The crowd was less knowledgeable last night, as well. Galactic Cowboys seemed more relaxed night two vs. night one, Wally especially. It seemed odd that he was the guy setting everything up while the rest of the band was backstage. If you see him, ask him about his space boots. I'm sure he will appreciate the mention. For the Cowboy's part, Alan looked unhappy with his kit night two, and kicked it over in disgust. During KX Ben and Wally were taping rude messages on the floor in front of Ty and generally messing him up, which, like I said, was a different tone compared to night one. As for King's x' encore, night two, Ben and Wally came out to sing the lines "I'm getting closer to my home" and Doug pulled a bunch of people out of the crowd to sing along. This definitely did not happen in DC. The volume was louder last night, too. It was an educational experience to see what a band goes through day in and day out. -- Kevin (kwmadden@usa.pipeline.com) GO PACKERS...GO WINGS!!!

Personally, I think the YtseJam is 100% perfect the way it is. Sure, talk about DT lately has been sparse, but that is because there is nothing to talk about. I am a member of both the YtseJam (duh) and Freaks, and I find the 'jam to be much more interesting.

Sure, Freaks has WAY more on-topic information, but it seems just like a bunch of essays put together. Our posts don't have to have a thesis statement. The YtseJam has become less of a place to talk about DT, and more of a place to talk with fellow DT fans (who are all too rare). People here talk like they do in real life, there is no acting like we are some hot-shot. (well, that might not be entirely true :) In a way, we feel at home in the YtseJam, and we let it all hang out :-)

I seemingly know almost all of the name of the people who post now, from reading and IRC. I just like seeing what people type; what they're up to, etc. There is a time to analyze music and there is a time to relax. IMO, school is the place to analyze.

The YtseJam also gives you a sense of belonging; like a special bond with others. I feel that the YtseJam is more a family, and the Freaks is more colleagues. I don't think it is that hard for everyone to put up with a few minor annoyances. Nobody is perfect.

And about the last sentence, yes, some people are too harsh, and take things personally. But, don't worry about these people because they will probably die of heart attacks sooner anyways. :)

Now I'm not saying anything negative about Freaks, because it is a fabulous mailing list. But, I find the diversity of the YtseJam far more compelling.

    Love live the YtseJam!!!

side note: Rip - I vote for Chuck Schuldiner to sing for DT!!

Hello YSTEJammers! I have been lurking around on this list for a couple of weeks & should introduce myself. My name is Tim Templeton from Seattle (orig. KC) & have been an avid DT fan for 3 yrs. now. Between my brother & I, we have all of the mass market DT works. As some of you, I am also a big RUSH fan & can't wait 'til the new CD arrives. I already have my money up for the Magna Carta release. I used to play lead GTR for Fatal Impact in the KC area, but my job took me elsewhere :(. We have a DAT demo, but just to get our originals for posterity. I really enjoyed being in a group, but you have to be very patient (or extremely good/lucky) to go anywhere big. I like to hear some of the bands mentioned that I have never heard of here. I will give them a shot; that's the way I got turned on to DT!

yes, but what we really want to know is if Dougs sound was any better the 2nd nite? i too was at the DC show (barely) and his sound was absolutely CRAP. im pretty sure it was the Bayou's sound rig; they buried him in bass so when hed slide up to play higher, the sound was almost non-existant. argh. can you tell im a bassist?
