Just a note to let everyone know that #14 of Metropolis Watch, the U.S. Dream
Theater fanzine, is officially complete. This issue has the usual DT news
(new CD info, the Rush tribute, etc.), a blurb on Kevin Moore's latest
activities, a review of a Petrucci/Portnoy clinic in Holland, a review of
Blind Guardian's new one, and an interview with Lou Falco of Maraya (formerly
    Wicked Maraya).

In the US, it's a buck and a quarter (includes postage and all that), and
anywhere that requires airmail, it's two dollars; one year subscriptions are
$5 US/$8 elsewhere. You can email me with any inquiries, or you can order
    direct from moi:

    Metropolis Watch
    c/o Jaime Kimpton
    2108 Buckboard Ct.

Again, if anyone has any contributions they'd like to submit (directing a
    look at D-Man <G>), please please please go ahead and send 'em to me;
*anything* on Dream Theater or prog/power metal bands in general is welcome.
     The more the merrier! :)

I got my Critical Mass last night so I thought I'd post a quick
    review for everyone.

This is by far the best Counterpart boot that I've heard. Although,
this isn't saying much since most of them are crap! Most of
the time, the sound quality is close to RnR 92 quality. I
haven't heard Mirrors yet so I don't know how it compares there.

The sound quality on disc one isn't quite as good but disc two is
breath taking. The packaging is the best Mike has done and actually
has Rush on it instead of some made-up cover band. The set list
is the standard CP set list which has some great old songs.
There is a special bonus track which is Neil's solo song, Pieces of
Eight. I have this on tape but it's nice to have it on cd.

My only complaint about the cd is that the bonus track has a bunch of
two second empty tracks before it which I find very annoying.

I would highly recommend this boot to anyone.

Adam doing what he fails to do best:

    1) Satriani, Vai, and Johnson would be a HELL of a show. I saw Satriani
when he was with Eric Johnson and The Riverdogs. Needless to say, there was
an impressive end-of-show jam. Actually, I'd say that Eric Johnson pretty
much blew everyone away, though. It was surprising, since I was less than
completely familiar with his material then....and Satriani had blown my mind
at the Santa Monica Civic a few months earlier. EJ is amazing, though....I
saw him at Wadsworth Hall in LA on his first pass through for "Ah Via
Musicom"...one of the best shows I've ever seen, on par with Queensryche, my
first DT show, Marillion, The Lost Souls, Primus/Fishbone and Rush.
Awesome! Haven't seen Vai, though....I'd like to.

    2) I'm hoping the King's X/Galactic Cowboys entourage makes it out west.
Had the pleasure of seeing the Cowboys a couple of times, King's X once, and
they certainly didn't disappoint. The Galactic Cowboys (Monty!) probably
belong in the above list....they're great live!

Wow, it's been so long since I've posted anything, I almost sent this to
    ytsejam@arastar.com......but anyway.....

I'm wondering if anybody can help me out with a quest.....I've been looking for anything
by Anacrusis since the tape player in my car ate _Manic Impressions_. None of the music
stores here in Evansville have any in stock, and my favorite two can't even order them,
something about the CDs not being in the inventory.....to make matters worse, two of
their CDs are listed as no longer made. I've checked CDNow's Web site, and once again no
    luck.

If anybody knows where I can get ahold of *anything* by Anacrusis (I prefer CDs, but as
the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers), PLEASE e-mail me with the info. I'd like to
get ahold of some of their material before all of it disappears, and any help anyone can
    offer will be greatly appreciated......

i taped them :) will also be at the alst two shows of the tour
(8/31 dallas and 9/1 houston) pretty cool to see the first two
and last two shows of the tour, eh? well i guess it isnt all that cool
if it really is the end of the tour and maybe the last tour too...

i have heard conflicting reports from different people close to the
band about their atitued and plans after the split with atlantic. i
didnt mention that in my last post, i didnt know if it was public yet..
i have heard that they are very hapy to be away from atlantic and
free to get on a smaller label with possibly more support. i also
heard that they were thinking of going in solo career directions...
hmmm....who knows...i wish them the best. they need to do what is
best for them creatively and financially. if it is in their best
interests to break up indefinitely then i support that. we shouldnt
put our wishes above their well being...

i dont read the ytsejams much anymore, what the hell is the mytsecon?

and that really sucks about primus, i love herb but if he was holding
ler and les back creatively then it was for the best, almost the
same situation a dt and kev....

    Folks-
As you know by now, I have become the new maintainer of the Dream Theater
FAQ List. Tonight, I did a real brief revamping of it. So far, the new
version is only at http://www.emba.uvm.edu/~cmerlo/dtfaq.html. Those of
you that have the time, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could check it
for mistakes n stuff. All suggestions are welcome.

IMPORTANT: Lots of your e-mail addresses are on the FAQ. Please check
them for accuracy. Also, if you think you maintain a page that might be
listed on the FAQ (songbook, etc...) please check those links as well.

More updating will happen this weekend. See ya!

Let's see, my average income from college work study and scholarships is

    Hi all,
I'm about 11 days (which is around 30 jams) behind in my reading, so maybe
this thread has blown over or developed further, but I'll put in my 2 cents
anyway. I like the ytsejammer tribute idea. I know I really enjoy covering
songs from my favorite bands.. and it'd be great to get it on tape. However,
I think for the sake of logistics, this idea could only happen if 1) jammers
largely from one city, and others who can afford to travel in, record in one
studio, 2) individual instrument tracks are recorded and passed on, with mixing
done in one place, or 3) each song is recorded by a group of jammers in a
different city/studio. I prefer choice 3 (because that'd probably be the best
chance for me to appear on it!), although choice 1 is probably the easiest to
    pull off.
    . I hope
    this project becomes a reality.

    Ken McWatters

P.S. Take pity on Brian Cox and let him crash at your place if he's in your town.
He goes to a buttload of concerts (DAT tape rolling) every year. :) I can also
vouch for his good trading record.. I was roommates with him for a while and he
always had a backlog of tapes to make. He always got around to em eventually. :)
