    up
    >> Subcon-- what the hell is the title? Is it "Bad" or "Wide Awake In
    >> America" or what? I hope Bono isn't on the Jam, otherwise I'm dogmeat...

    >It's called BAD

Yes it is "Bad". Originally on U2's *Unforgetable Fire*, live version is on
*Wide Awake in America*, concert appearance also on U2's "Rattle & Hum", the
    movie, not CD.

IHMO, U2's performance of *Bad *at *Live Aid* is one of the most moving live
performances of ANY band I've ever seen. Bono ,Edge, Larry & Adam really had
their heart & soul in this one!

James didn't do a bad job either; there's alot of emotion in that song

There has been (was) a lot of talk about the song lists on the new album,
    BUT.....

does anyone know what the title of the new album will be? Just a question
I've been asking for a long time.

    Also,

Instumental DT? I relly think it's just a matter of personal taste. The
general maintstream fans of radio (who tend not to appreciate a band for their
technical tallents), would not go for it.

Me? Ohhh my would I love it. InstruMENTAL I & II are great..
Maybe in years to come, the band could do an instumental album with new and
old stuff. I don't know, probably not.

    Rock On,

    Okay,

When I got my subscription switched from AOL (Yuk) to EnterAct (#1, baby) I got a letter explaining how to unsubscribe, and explaining what is a legal topic and what is not. Since all conversations, flaming or not, have been in some way related to music and most of those have been prog related, I don't see the problem. If it's that much of a hassle for you to skim the Jam, maybe you don't really belong on the mailing list. I don't mean that as in you aren't a Jammer, I mean rather that the Jam has been this way for at least a year... and most of us are fine with it. If Dream Theater isn't doing anything, why should the Jam suddenly shut down? Maybe that's more extreme than you meant. I apologize. But this list is here for discussion. Topics change. If anything really important is going on, most people put it in the title of their post... you can scan just those. I just don't see any problem with the way the jam has been going (Outside of the flames, which we are all trying to hold back on these days). Majority rules... if most of us want to just relax and talk, that's the way it will be. If the majority take issue with the way the jam has been running, why not write whoever runs the jam?

Does anyone else get amused when people post to the jam saying "Get me off this list NOW" Like we who read that are going to call up ax.com and say "Hurry! Bob is not happy! Get him off this computer run mailing list which he himself subscribed to!"

    Just a pondering...

Night one I was center stage front row, and night two I was right in front of him. I was on top of his monitor so I could hear him well. Wally's sound (Stage right, like Doug) was much better night two. As for the chick, what did she look like? There was a girl who pushed up front in DC who was drunk and rubbing on everyone. Two things, one has DTC the other....

    1) I went to Lollapalooza at the Gorge. Devo was the mystery band and they played in their yellow suits and pointy hats. They were really odd. I'd never seen them live. The first song they did was "Whip It." I thought Primus was weird in concert but these guys are FUCKED UP. Check em out if you have the chance.

I got hit in the head by Chris Cornell. Not literally, but he kicked a water bottle that had been thrown on stage and it FLEW! I was pretty far back and the fucker nailed me in the head. Metallica was amazing. Great showmen and they played a lot of their older stuff. A LOT.

    2) Now this is what shocked the shit out of me the other day. It'll take a while to relate so bear with me. I went to a bar the other night to shoot some pool and I was wearing my Dream Theater shirt. I meet my two friends and one notices the shirt and says: "Dream Theater? My roommate last year either knew those guys really well or was in the band at some point." Needless to say I freaked out. I mentioned all the band members, past and present, and everyone that I knew of who auditioned for the vocalist spot. No luck. He couldn't even remember his old roommate's name. I vaguely remembered the guy as I had met him once. But I was drunk at the time and couldn't quite put my finger on the guy's name. Then all of a sudden I remembered: Rich! His name was Rich! Then my friend says: "Oh yeah! Rich Kern! He lived in Long Island before he moved up here."

The name Rich Kern meant nothing to me. So I forgot about it. Yesterday, I was thumbing through the new FAQ (thanks D-man) when I read the question involving how the Wanted: Dead or Alive cover came to be. It says that Kevin Moore and one RICH KERN got a hold of John Petrucci's tape and fucked with it. SO, it turns out that I have this guy recorded on my Subconscious CD. I wish I was sober and wearing my DT shirt when I first met this guy. Ah...opportunity had passed me by.

The clincher of this little tale (sorry about the length) is that my current housemate runs into this guy all the time. Three times in the last month to be precise. I'm gonna take a day off and comb the city and find this guy,

    That is all.

re: Rick mentioned something about the lyrics being very important to the likability of a band...

I have to disagree, some bands strive on instrumental ability, IMO it is what makes them great. I would rather see Rush forgo Geddy's vocals on an album and rely on the killer bass/percussion drive that defines the band. I think Neil needs an album off lyrically, personally I thought that the lyrics on Counterparts were way below his work on Presto and Power Windows (two of my favorite Rush lyrical albums).

Some bands are defined in my mind by their instrumental ability:

King Crimson: The opening bars of Schizoid Man and THRAK Boud Deun: The main theme of Boud Deun (the song) which they use in improvisation Miriodor: Instrumental theme from Funambule (Tightrope Walker)-Circus sound Ozric Tentacles: Guitar riff from Kick Muck and the part where the bass groove kicks in. Eric Johnson: Cliffs of Dover - a radio hit even the non-attentive listener can hum. All instrumental.

    Later,

    Mike
