OK, OK...agreed. It never has been about the music (at least not in my
day), but it should be. It's a bunch of crap how eMpTyV and advertisements
dictate that bands like Bush and Presidents are/were the hot thing...but
then again, just my opinion...

Go to the show!!! It's great. Especially the opener band...Galactic
Cowboys!! Very energetic bunch of guys. Good 10 song set.
King's X has 6 albums out: Out of the Silent Planet, Gretchen Goes to
Nebraska, Faith Hope Love, King's X, Dogman, and their newest Ear Candy.
All are great albums, but I'd start with either OOTSP, GGTN or even EC.
Don't judge KX on only hearing "Black Flag"- there's much better KX out
there... :)

Message-ID: <199608071543.LAA07454@wicked.stigmata.org>
Hey all ....
Alot of people in the last few jams have been complaining
about the state of the jam and some even saying that we should
go moderated again, so here's what I think.
Yes, the jam has gone down somewhat in quality, I will agree with
that, but I definately feel it is better than it was a few weeks
ago. The whole Metallica debate was a show of just how bad it
can be. Unintelligible (sp?) about something which wasn't
100% DT related was completely ridiculous, but it has gotten
better since then. So, its not as bad as it could be.
The jam has no chance of getting moderated in the near
future, I will tell you that much. Ken was gonna start
voices, but as usual, he has gotten too busy and has
not been able to do it. (This is not a flame against
Ken, I FULLY understand being real busy, and I thought he
had lost his mind when he said he was gonna do it :)
There are already HUNDREDS of emails each week to go through
and figure out who lost their accts and didn't unsubscribe
before they did, who's mail server is broken, etc.
I don't have the time to go through these, much less moderate.
And I seriously don't think anyone else does. It would
probably take 3-4 hours a day to do it. Most people
can't give that kind of committment to a volunteer
job. And no, I am not asking for volunteers, because I
don't want the jam moderated right now.
As for quality, I guess I just really have one thing to say....
The jam is YOURS. YOU make the topics and the talk. Instead
of complaining about how bad the jam is, come up with
something new to talk about which would probably spark the
interest of alot of jammers and become a great discussion,
don't sit back and complain. Only YOU can change the the
content. Yes, if things get ridiculous, I will tell people
to end threads, but at this point, there is just alot of
random stuff which hasn't gotten to anything I would consider
ridiculous.
So basically what I am saying is, don't complain, work to
change.
That's all from me.

I think the jam is fine as it is.
You have to realize though that right now there is no good stuff. There is nothing new to talk about except other groups and the Rush Tribute. I dont want the jam to become a NMS. That is crazy...

Any Jammers going to the Ted Nugent/Bad Company shows this weekend in Southern Cal? They're offering two tickets for the price of one for the Universal Amphitheater show on Monday (tix sales must be hurting!). I saw this same show last year and it kicked major ass! If you dig highly theatrical/artistic progressive sort of metal with a heavy gothic flavour, CHECK THESE GUYS OUT!!! Their first album is out of print, but some places MAY be carrying the German import. Same goes for the second album (II). They also have a live album (Live in Deutschland), and an accompanying video (all imports). If anyone wants info on these guys, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. Totally cool. Well, looks like I'll be adding a bit more on my Best Buy credit card since soemone said they're carrying the Rush tribute. man, the mroe I read about this, the more I want it. Speaking of eMpTyV, does anyone live in a market large enough to get M2, MTV's second channel? It would be interesting to hear about what the programming for that channel is. Perhaps they could play music videos. That would be novel.

You ask a difficult question, but nonetheless, I could not help myself...
There is no real replacement for James LaBrie, but if I HAD to choose, I think Geoff Tate could do a good job. Another pick, this one from a totally different music genre, would be the singer from Tower of Power (don't know his name). On the other hand, I even wouldn't mind seeing Dominicci back with 'em... -- Jeff Bourdier Phi Mu Alpha Jeff or JeffB on IRC Eta Mu, 1995 http://www.pernet.net/~jeff Lamar University Beaumont, TX

Mr. Bungle does a great version of the cantina song! One of my favorite boots is a Mr. B show in Berkeley a few years back, where they also performed stirring renditions of the Super Mario Brothers theme, the Welcome Back Kotter theme, and a medley of "We Are the Champions," Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home," and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Great stuff! :) BTW, I've always wanted to hear Mike Patton sing a version of "Behind Blue Eyes." Not that anyone cares, just thought I'd throw it in there. Jeff

Hmmm...that's amusing. There was a thread like this on The National Midnight Star a couple of weeks ago. Proved to be unpopular for a lot of people... trying to figure out who'd be the best replacement for Band Member X. People saying things like "You just CAN'T replace anyone....it wouldn't be Rush anymore." Okay, they're probably right. But isn't that at least moderately entertaining conjecture? Well, I'm of that opinion, though there are admittedly subjects that interest me more. At any rate, I don't know that Dickenson, Alder, or Bach make a lot of sense to me as Dream Theater's singer, but it'd be fun. Maybe David Lee Roth....

Hmmm....that's interesting. I guess I'm just proving that I'm a little off...I actually LIKE the guy. Think he's an interesting vocalist. Not that I'd rather hear him than Geoff Tate or anything, but he's cool, in my opinion. I've GOT "Sex And Religion," though.
And one other note:
With all this talk about the Rush tribute, I've got plenty of information on that, but does anyone have the Jethro Tull tribute? If so, how is it? I'm a big Tull fan, so I'm trying to get the scoop.

Man, what's up with this? Magna Carta deserves better than this. We have to stop ordering Magna Carta discs from them or from CDNow or places like that. We have to start telling stores to order them. If you order a disc straight from them, it doesn't pass thru any new hands. But buy a MC disc at a store, and the schlep behind the counter will say, "Whoa, what's this?"
