This is SO incredibly ironic! Why? I'll tell ya why :)
I was looking for AWAKE and I&W for a graduation gift for a freind...
I called Borders Books and Music and asked them about both CD's, and this
    is the answer I got:

"Ummm...Dream Theater? Oh that's out of print..."
    "Oh, Awake? That's an import...."
    "Nope, don't stock either CD"

Since I knew that was where I bought MY copies, I knew something
wasn't right (outside of the fact that the idiot told me DT was out
of print and that Awake was an Import). So, I drove down to borders,
and they had AWAKE, ACOS, and I&W right on the shelf! I almost slapped
the guy with the damn CD's when I brought them up to the counter!

I guess some store "asscoiates" have more common sense than others :)

that (just read my name at the bottom of my posts. I don't own the

Yeah, I'll take a peanut. Honey roasted?
Kind of a cheesy flick, but not bad. It is a fantasy/fairy tale after

Never really heard that much by them (maybe I'll go check them out

Doug Pinnick (sp?) of King's X did some playing or something on their

    anyone else know about this?).

I don't know if it will do any good or not, but I just got the e-mail
address for the new MTV station M2 (you know, the one that's SUPPOSED to
play MUSIC videos, not the crap that's on MTV right now). It's
supposed to be for request and stuff like that, so maybe we can do some
good for some GOOD bands that play MUSIC. Of course, oour cable system
doesn't carry it yet, so it doesn't really affect me directly at this
point, but maybe it will sometime. It's: M2@aol.com, I believe.
    Cheers.

It's Dave Weckl. In the realm of jazz, pick up Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." Elvin Jones is just killer on this. Also try anything with Steve Gadd, like Chick Corea's "The Leprachaun." John McLaughlin's latest disc (cant remember the name) is also wonderful, it features Dennis Chambers. If you want anymore just e-mail me -- I'm kind of a jazz nut.

I have this in tape and I dug it out after reading this post. It's pretty cool -- faithful to the original and good Mr. Bach sings in the upper register for this one. The drums are much better than John "lame" Rutsey's were. Worth a few listens.

Devin Townsend now performs in his band strapping young lad... other than that he is a singer and a guitarist, he's producing alot of stuff too... He performs on the Judas Priest tribute also... I7ve heard he's a great guitar player too, in a longago interview with Steve Vai, he said he asked Devin to play for him before his tour for S&R begain <did it happen?>... and then, Devin started to shred "even faster than I could play"... Strange Steve didn't know Devin could play at all till then... <before the tour....>... It impressed Vai alot, it seems, however, no wonder they kinda well apart... Rumours are, though... <in Japanese guitar magazines...>... that Devin and Vai might get together again in the near future... Hmm..

Well I think I know why RUSH did not want this so called tribute album released. IT SUCKS!!!!!!! The only song that holds some merit is Closer to the Heart done by Fates Warning. Now I am not trying to flame any of the musicians who played on the album, but I think they all decided to jerk off while playing the songs. It would be like DT playing different solos in Metropolis, or something. I have always been a firm believer that RUSH is not a band that takes many liberties, therefore you should not have taken liberties while covering their stuff. I often go and see a RUSH tribute band called Power Windows, and they do the stuff note for note. It is the next best thing to seeing RUSH live. Since you are doing a tribute though I do agree with D-Man, you should not do it exact. My conclusion is to not have done it in the first place. Let's face it RUSH is still here, and hopefully will be for a long time to come. Let me just enjoy RUSH as it was meant to be heard. Flame away if you must, but it will not change my opinions. >Who is James Murphy? He kicks ass on every tune!

Ah.... James Murphy is the latest Testament guitarist (who, incidentally recently disbanded. He replaced Glen Alvelais, who replaced Alex Scolnick. James Murphy also used to be a member of Obituary and Death (I think those are the right bands!), and also had his own project called Disincarnate. For more cool James axe-work, check out the Testament disk "Low". To check out James copying Alex in a live situation (not necessarily recommended), check out the "Live At The Fillmore" album.

Five essential albums?? 1. Disco Volante - Mr. Bungle. 2. Angel Dust - Faith No More. 3. Images & Words - Dream Theater. 4. Stain - Living Colour. 5. Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa.

    (Most subject to change daily).

Oh, to those discussing great Mr. Bungle/Faith No More covers, check out: Mr. Bungle; Nothing Compares 2 U, The Stroke and It Came From Outer Space, and Faith No More doing Sweet Dream (the old Nestle's theme), Let's Lynch The Landlord (Dead Kennedys), Greenfields, Spanish Eyes, and I Wanna Fuck Myself (G.G. Allen). Also, Faith No More never covered The Final Countdown. A seriously fucked version of it was their intro music on the Angel Dust tour.

Wow.....Working Men...that's what they should have called it....cause 95% of the participants did their homework.

Anyway...since everyone else did a review...I'll do my part...

Working Man : Sebastian FUCKING Bach!!!! Go dude!!! This guy really knows how to use his lungs...I'm actually hoping for something from the Skid's now!

By-Tor and the Snow Dog: This is the one I never expected in a million years...especially with Labrie singing...

Analog Kid: One of my favorite Rush songs...Jack Russell really sounds different here...It's refreshing to hear him outside of the 'lets rip off Jimmy Page' blues that Mark Kendall of Great White plays.

The Trees: People have been talking about not liking this particular song...or the electric guitar in place of the classical...I like it!!! I really do....I think Baker kicks on this.....You have to remember that a tribute can be identical to the original....or it can be a new spin on in...in this case...it's the best of both worlds...

La Villa Strangiato: Best song on the record....case closed...Especially with Steve Morse playing...

Mission: Great new gen rush redone by Eric Martin!!! Anthem: Thanks for destroying a classic, George Lynch....(someones gotta cut off a few of his fingers....then he'll play a little less)

    Jacon's Ladder: <Spooge>

Closer to the heart: Excellent...I liked it..until they bastartized it with 2112....Fates Warning seems to always ruin things for me....

Natural Science: MojoMan tees up a MojoNuke and Swings one right into Devin Townsends mouth (that'll teach you to use that again!!!!) .....other than that....the song kicks!

YYZ: Great....really good....but doesnt touch La Villa....

Red Barchetta: The best of the tight nit songs on the record...Ugh...Labrie....<spooge>

    FreeWill: Umm......stay in key dude...

Now that I've had a chance to listen without prejudice....I like and dislike stuff...most importantly though I have to make note of two guys... Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy!!!

Those two are the life of this record....It almost makes me wanna fast forward through the non Sheehan stuff so I can listen to the Sheehan stuff....

I mean....GOD!!!!! ....The Sheehan stuff is more interesting that the originals!!!! (Not surprising....Billy can play circles around anyone....(including Lee, Hamm, and Myung))

Anyway.....Great CD....Get it!!! if you havent already!!!

Hi Patrick..... Well I Like Magellan a lot, I agree with you about the music, I Think they are great musicians.... BUT.....you make a big big HISTORY mistake here.....

The right title of the first song of "Impendig Ascension" is "Estadium Nacional" wich is a deformation (not a translation) of ESTADIO NACIONAL. The ESTADIO NACIONAL is a football (soccer for U.S) stadium in my city SANTIAGO the capitol of my country CHILE...... The song is about the militar intervention in 1973..... Remember......"Cover Action - Santiago" "Gossens Ministers" and "Allende supporters" refers to SALVADOR ALLENDE GOSSENS the Socialism President of the Government who suffered the militar intervention..... The EStadio Nacional was the jail for many political prisoners......... I was a little boy (3 years old) I can't remember nothing....Many people died... The lyrics from Gardner support the goverment position (I think that they have a "lefty political position" :-)

Well that's all, a correction of the History.... bye JLRC SANTIAGO - CHILE (not argentina, they suffered the same political situation but in 1976, no allende, no gossens, no Estadio Nacional)
